Mondeo 3 generations. What do I know about the Ford Mondeo III

05.03.2020

general information about the car

Ford Mondeo 3 - front wheel drive car"D" -class, produced by the European division of Ford in three body styles - hatchback, station wagon, sedan. Third generation Ford Mondeo produced from 2001 to 2007. Produced in Belgium, China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

In early 2000, Ford unveiled the Ford Mondeo 3 at the Paris Motor Show. Production began in 2001 at the company's Belgian plant.

The car has become larger than its predecessor. The designer of the European branch of Ford - Chris Byrd, has developed a body project in accordance with the concept of Ford "new edge" - "new face", which means mixing in the design of sharp corners and smooth lines, oval and triangular shapes.

The body was significantly strengthened: in terms of resistance to deformations, it became 60% stronger than its predecessor, the guarantee against perforating corrosion increased to 12 years, thanks to 24-stage metal processing during body assembly. The wheelbase has been increased by 150 mm, the track has been increased by 19 mm at the front and by 50 mm at the rear, and the interior has become more spacious.

Having abandoned Zetec engines, a new family of Duratec engines began to be installed on the Ford Mondeo 3: gasoline with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters (from 110 to 145 hp), a turbodiesel volume of 2.0 liters (from 90 to 130 hp), as well as 2.5 and 3 liter V6 engines.

The security system was supplemented with new electronic systems: in addition to ABS with electronic system distribution of braking force, an emergency braking assistance system (EBA) was installed on the car, and.

The car was restyled in 2003 and 2005. Basically, the design and interior changed slightly: new grille radiator, headlights and taillights, fog lights... There are Titanium and Titanium X trim levels with chrome inserts and titanium-colored door trims.

The model was discontinued in 2007, following the launch of the fourth generation Ford Mondeo, designed according to a new concept of kinetic design.

Technological features and characteristics

New options of the third generation Mondeo are a powerful audio system, the ability to install satellite navigation systems, a multimedia system with a touch-screen screen for the driver and two independent screens for the rear passengers.

The "charged" version of Mondeo - ST220, was more powerful than its predecessor by 20 hp. It was equipped with a 6-cylinder 24-valve engine with a volume of 3.0 liters (223 hp). With it, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds, maximum speed was 243 km / h.

Safety elements in the cabin were supplemented by side airbags on the front and rear seats, side airbags for the driver and front passenger.

Interesting Facts

The car was developed by the company's specialists in a fairly short time - in 24 months.

Before the first presentation at the motor show, the model existed only in a computer version. This approach was rare for that time, although the company had already used to develop the Ford Mondeo 2 station wagon. The innovation was criticized more than once, but the result proved the progressiveness of the new Ford technology.

Famed automotive journalist Jeremy Clarkson used a Ford Mondeo 3 as his personal car and test drive Ford versions Mondeo ST 220 has included in the series of its automotive transmissions.

Pros and cons versus classmates

The spacious interior of the model is one of the most advanced in the class. The body has also become larger - Ford Mondeo 3 has surpassed its classmates in size - Citroёn C5 (11 cm), Volkswagen passat(2 cm), Renault Laguna II (15 cm), Peugeot 406 (17 cm).

Ford wins in carrying capacity - it is 50 kg more than the Mazda 6. The 510-liter trunk is larger than that of the Volkswagen Passat and Renault Laguna II.

For the first time in its class, Ford Mondeo 3 began to be installed in 16-inch tires in standard configuration... On request, 17- and even 18-inch wheels were installed. Peugeot 406 and Volkswagen Passat were initially equipped with only 15-inch models.

But the main advantage of the model is its excellent handling, which has become a benchmark in the class.

The Ford Mondeo 3's visibility is not very good - it is limited by the high stern and small exterior mirrors.

Figures and awards

The model was named "Car of the Year" in 2001 and "Best Family Car" in 2006 according to the British publication "What Car?" In 2001 " The best car"He was also named by the magazine" Top Gear ". In 2005, EuroNCAP awarded the Ford Mondeo 5 stars in crash tests.

During the release of the third generation Ford Mondeo, more than 60 thousand cars were sold in Russia.

Sales market: Europe.

At the 2000 Paris Motor Show, Ford unveiled the next generation Mondeo. It is still based on the Ford CDW27 platform developed for the 1993 model. However, the new Mondeo was the first Ford model, which was created using computer modeling. The most modern design and engineering programs made it possible to make a complete modernization of the car, to extend the body (the wheelbase is increased by 50 mm) and even to take into account all kinds of anthropometric data when developing the interior, making the entry into the car and the design of the seats as comfortable as possible. A feature of the exterior of the sedan has become a new corporate style, which has incorporated the most interesting findings in the design of the latest "Ford" models, including the new "Focus" and "Fiesta". The line has been updated power units... The model has said goodbye to the 1.6-liter engine, the basis of the series is now made up of new 1.8-liter (gasoline) and 2.0-liter (gasoline, diesel) engines with a capacity of 90-145 hp, and a 24-valve 170-hp 2 The 5-liter V6 remained from its predecessor, but has been upgraded to Euro 4 requirements.

The interior of the third generation Ford Mondeo sedan is distinguished by high-quality finishing materials, good ergonomics, it has become even more convenient to get behind the wheel - with the help of a sufficient range of adjustments for the driver's seat and steering column with adjustment in two planes. Not only did the increase in wheelbase allow the rear passengers to feel freer - this is also facilitated by the deep recesses in the backrests of the front seats and the slightly increased width of the cabin. The signature oval quartz clock on the center console adds its charm to the interior. In the most luxurious versions of Ghia, the dark top of the interior panels is adjacent to the light bottom, as well as metal inserts on the steering wheel spokes, the rim of the watch, the dials of the instrument cluster and other details. IN top-end configuration heated front seats are also available and windshield, climate control, multifunction, premium audio system and more.

The line of petrol Mondeo 2000-2003 in the sedan body is now opened by a modification with a 1.8-liter engine working with a 5-speed "mechanics" - its capacity is 125 hp. The more efficient 2.0 unit has a reserve of 145 hp, and there are two transmission options for it - “mechanics” or 4-band “automatic”. The rest of the engines are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission - these are two diesel units 2.0 TDdi (90 hp) and 2.0 TDCi (115 hp) and a 2.5-liter Duratec 24v V6 (170 hp). The most powerful petrol version of the sedan is capable of reaching a top speed of 225 km / h, and it takes 8.3 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h. Combined fuel consumption is 9.9 l / 100 km. The younger ones gasoline engines it will be 7.7-9.4 l / 100 km. Diesel engines are noticeably more modest - 5.9 l / 100 km. Volume fuel tank- 58 p.

The sedan Ford Mondeo 2000-2003 has independent suspension all wheels, while in comparison with its predecessor, the suspension travels have increased. In all modifications, the car received a power steering and disc brakes(ventilated at the front). The dimensions of the body of the Mondeo 2000-2003 sedan are: length - 4731 mm, width - 1812 mm, height - 1429 mm. The wheelbase of 2754 mm provides a good headroom for rear passengers. The ground clearance is small - 120 mm. The trunk volume of the sedan has increased by 30 liters compared to the previous Mondeo and is now 500 liters. Its length has increased from 960 to 1000 mm, with the rear seats folded down, it can accommodate cargo up to 1740 mm long, and the total volume reaches 1370 liters. Threshold height - 720 mm.

With the change of generations sedan Ford Mondeo 2000-2003 just got safer. Computer simulations have made it possible to optimize the body structure to better absorb impact energy in a collision. Front airbags - with two-stage deployment, depending on the force of the impact and the position of the driver and passenger. In addition, the car received side airbags and inflatable curtains over the doorways. A safe pedal assembly, active head restraints, standard child seat mountings are all standard along with anti-lock brakes (with electronic brake force regulator and auxiliary braking system) plus an optional stabilization system.

Despite the increased wheelbase, the Mondeo is far from the best in its class in terms of rear room. The chassis requires increased attention, in addition, the car has a low ground clearance (after hitting a curb, the lower skirt of the bumper may come off). Of the annoying "little things" are often called a breaking driver's seat height adjuster, an inconvenient opening of the hood. The body needs to be checked for corrosion. In 2003, a small update of the model took place.

IN lineup European companies, D-class sedans traditionally serve as a visiting card for budget manufacturers. Indeed, until recently, it was with him, with the family class, that the "real premium" of the big German three began, which means that the competition between well-equipped top-end cars of cheaper brands and premium ones was desperate - it was impossible to fall face down in the mud.

Until the third generations of Ford Mondeo in this battle did not win at all - rather, on the contrary, tried to catch up with competitors. German Opel, the French and Japanese were clearly superior to Ford in the fight for the consumer. However, Mondeo took the price, and in stock there was a trump card in the form of the title "Car of the Year". The size of the cabin turned out to be the main disadvantages of the model - it was unsuitable for this class, and the set of engines turned out to be not the most successful.

Older cars. Consumers did not care that the body was designed to install motors both longitudinally and transversely, to use all-wheel drive and several wheelbase options. And the emphasis on passive safety, which was made by the advertising of the model, in the blink of an eye became irrelevant after - the car in them showed a very mediocre result.

Ford Mondeo I and II

But you understand that such a large corporation as Ford Motor Company has the strength and will to do something sensible. It's just that "first pancake" (and the Mondeo was the first car on a new front-wheel drive platform in Europe) turned out to be lumpy. The second generation was essentially a deep facelift of the first, but the development of the third was treated with all the attention and, perhaps, it finally turned out to be very successful. About him, in fact, and speech - the older "losers" are almost irrelevant for a number of parameters, and Mondeo III and now looks like a good fellow.

What is it good for?

The body design in the style of New Edge sets the car apart from the crowd of classmates - the good work of the designers is not outdated, it looks great against the background of the later Focus II and many other cars. But the machine, on the other hand, is very conservative in design. Front-wheel drive, MacPherson strut at the front and a simple multi-link at the rear, in-line fours and a V6 transversely under the hood, three body options - sedan, station wagon and liftback.

However, this is rather a merit Mazda, whose AJ-series motors turned out to be "consumer goods" versions of the Jaguar, and from there they came to all Ford models. Diesel engines developed jointly with PSA by the Puma family here, several power grades, two displacement options and ... the glory of not the most successful engines. Although diesels with a volume of 2.2 liters were installed on the legendary Defender, and on Mazda BT-50 pickups and Ford ranger- they showed themselves excellently there. But for some reason, it was on the Mondeo and Transit that they had a bad reputation. A relatively early facelift in 2003 is associated with changes in ecological class and some overestimation of complete sets for the sake of obtaining a higher score for passive safety - structurally, the car has changed little.

Breakdowns and problems in operation

Body and interior

As I already wrote, the body has become much stronger and more resistant to rust in comparison with its predecessor. Serious corrosion manifests itself only after 10-15 years of operation, and often in places hidden from the eyes. The exterior panels on most cars hold up perfectly well into old age, even if no special care has been taken. There are also specimens with surface corrosion and numerous paintwork problems, but most often these are the consequences of minor injuries that were not healed in time. And also - work in a very bad climate, parking in wet garages, etc. Such machines are rare, and you can usually find a "flaw" in their biographies.

For most other instances weak points there remain the front suspension struts, side skirts, door bottoms, rear arches, subframe attachment points and the subframes themselves. Yes, these massive parts are at risk here. The first traces are usually worth looking for in the depths of the seams of the engine compartment, but the exterior of the car can be flawless for a long time. The door design is prone to sagging, and the liftback also has weak points in the rear of the body. It is worth checking the condition of the body elements under the upholstery - they can crack corny, you will need welding. Small cracks most often manifest themselves in metal creaking on irregularities not related to the operation of the suspensions, and it is difficult to detect them. Of regularly breaking components - all the outer plastic, especially the wheel arch liners. But the bumpers are too fragile here, mainly in a light frost. If in the summer a blow can pass without consequences, then a blow to the same place in winter will definitely cause numerous "fractures" - the foam bumpers in the bumpers are often jammed, and the plastic cannot withstand deformation. The salon is very nice and better body endures age. The seats are the hardest, the lumbar support often breaks, and in general the frame is rather weak. the cloth driver's seat prone to gaps. But the claddings begin to wear out only after more than 200 thousand kilometers of runs, and the pads of the handles, which are easy to replace, will be the first to give up. Dying climate displays are characteristic of almost all aged cars, Mondeo is no exception.

2 / 2

Poor operation of the central locking is also not a great surprise and is treated by replacing the microswitches. It is much worse that the interior fan is frankly unreliable - its extremely unsuccessful design has lived its own life literally from the age of three. He may suddenly stop working, then turn on, work for a year and then get up again. The windows are rather weak, but the price of the issue is also low. In general, this means that there are no serious complaints about the car, it's just that the quality is not premium, but the prices for spare parts do not bite, the repair is simple. But there is a wide choice of equipment, among the options there is a heated rear sofa and front seats with ventilation, and even several types of "sports" salons. The traditional trouble of all Ford cars of that period was the hood lock. The larva is located under the emblem on the radiator grill and breaks down very quickly and at the most inopportune moment. There are several solution options, from a plug-in rubber cover to installing a lock kit from Mondeo IV instead of the native one, where it simply opens from the passenger compartment, like all "normal" cars.

Electrician

Electrical problems did not pass the car - the quality of the wiring suffers here, you need to check the condition of the connectors regularly. The wiring of the cabin suffers from the accumulation of moisture in the carpets, the engine compartment wiring crumbles due to the heat. Fail ABS sensors and wiring under the bottom of the car. Not too often, but the problems are varied. On cars with ESP, the steering wheel position sensor can be thrown up. On almost all cars, after five to seven years, the outside air temperature sensor fails, the climate control after that begins to go crazy. The generator is not a model of reliability, it almost always requires replacement after six to seven years of operation, its bearings and rectifier are rather weak. The gasoline engine control system has a conventional ignition module and there are spark plug wires - you should not forget about them, they can easily fail. It is recommended to change the candles at least once every 40 thousand kilometers. Radiator fans and their wiring should also be revised at the same frequency.

Suspension, brakes and steering

Not the most reliable steering rack and the power steering pump pleases with the low replacement price. Yes, knocking will usually lead to a progressive leak in a short time. Yes, you need to be very careful to violate the "grandfather's ban" - not to turn the wheels on the spot, otherwise both the pump and the rack will suffer. And even more so, do not hold the rail on the limiter for an extra second. But the price of an item in the region of 10 thousand rubles is quite elevated even for a poor owner, and even for good roads it can travel more than a hundred thousand kilometers. Of course, the result is not outstanding, but quite acceptable. The pendants are also quite reliable. The springs and strut supports are in the front at risk. Rear silent block front arm it is relatively inexpensive to change, and the ball joint is reliable. But in any case, the node resource under normal operating conditions is not less than 60-100 thousand km before the first bulkhead. If the repair is done in a complex, then it will not bother.

The springs are also weak at the back, they often break off the extreme turns. And the mnogorchazhka also has not very strong levers, and only for the longitudinal one there are "native" repair kits. The rest are also being repaired, but the rod metal itself is too thin for reliable repair. The station wagons, by the way, have a completely different suspension, stronger, with a completely different set of components. Those who like to load the car "to the full" rear suspension often it takes only 50 thousand km to overhaul with the replacement of one or two levers, but most owners, fortunately, drive empty, and the resource is quite acceptable, comparable to the resource of the front suspension.

The braking system is characterized by weak calipers, especially at the rear, not very reliable line pipes and frequent electrical problems with the sensors and the control unit. Calipers corny sour due to not very successful anthers and thick brake pads- the consequences of an attempt to reduce the cost of operation are noticeable here. Brake lines are not well protected and corrode at around 10 years of age. It is dangerous, but not too expensive if replaced in a timely manner. Simple repair - flexible copper tube fits perfectly in place of the old steel. Also, brake discs are prone to wobbling and uneven wear, but again, a lot of inexpensive non-original makes this not too important.

Transmission

Absolutely familiar Ford mechanical boxes of the MTX75 and MMT6 series do not have any special problems and are extremely reliable. Even on the "charged" version of ST22, the box works perfectly. The situation is different with machine guns. The old four-speed automatic Ford CD4E, which is found mainly on pre-styling cars, is not at all a stronghold of reliability. Of course, the box has been produced since 1994, but it has a lot of weak points. First of all, it is not the most successful oil pump, which can easily fail with understandable consequences. Weak solenoids in the valve body, not the most successful chain in the drive, and the constructive is not like Aisin and Jatco. The double drum also breaks regularly. Spare parts are inexpensive, and the box is well known for repair, they do it easily. But this does not mean that the repair will be inexpensive - the "standard" price of any problem with the automatic transmission applies here too: for 70,000 rubles you will be promised "everything is zero." It will break down again rather soon, on average, the resource after a good bulkhead does not exceed 150 thousand km, but often it turns out to be three times less.

Most of the restyled cars have a much more interesting automatic transmission under the hood, the Jatco 5F31J, aka JF506E. This box was installed on both Nissan and Mitsubishi Japanese and American assembly, as well as some Volkswagens, where it bears the name 09A. This five-speed gearbox is one of the most budget-friendly designs, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The main problems are early wear of rubber piston seals and clogging of the pressure control solenoid with dirt. With runs "over 200", the entire set of solenoids and the valve body plate are often changed. Many problems are caused by overheating due to a weak heat exchanger. There are enough other weak points in both mechanics and control hydraulics, but overall the design is quite successful. With careful operation, it will almost always pass 150, or even 200 thousand km, even without modifications. And it is convenient to repair. For fans of traffic light races, a differential is also at risk, and its breakdown usually leads to a complete failure of the automatic transmission due to the destruction of the case. Like many five-steps, it is strongly recommended to install an external enlarged automatic transmission radiator (from a four-step, for example) and an external filter with a magnetic trap. Fans of contract parts will also be interested in other information: on Mazda, the box was called JA5A-EL and was installed on Mazda 5, 6, MPV and Atenza. Apart from the name, the differences are minimal.

Motors

Most of the engines on the Mondeo are in-line fours with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters from the well-deserved Mazda L series family. Chain motors with a good design, good forcing capabilities and at the same time extremely inexpensive. Yes, the seals are weak here, the crankcase ventilation system, the throttle is not very reliable, it is prone to leaks, the ignition system is old-fashioned, and the intake is often leaky due to a bunch of weak connections - from injector rings to inconvenient clamps. The intake manifold has one very unpleasant feature - the length shift flaps when high mileage can fall into the cylinder, causing either valve damage, or even cylinder seizure and piston damage. In practice, the motor successfully passes its two hundred kilometers in any mode, and if the owner wishes, it can swing 350 - 500 km. The timing chain will require replacement at about 200 thousand km, which is almost a record for the latest generation chain motors. Of the far-fetched troubles, one can also recall the keyless landing of the timing stars, which slightly increases the requirements for the qualifications of the repairmen - tightening the fastening bolts or an incorrect tightening torque will lead to "Stalingrad" after a phase violation. In practice, this is rare, but for many it will be an unpleasant surprise for the lack of repair dimensions of the pistons. If a major overhaul is necessary, it is recommended to simply replace the shot block, since it is inexpensive. The engine compartment wiring is also not very reliable, but it will almost certainly last ten years, and with light repairs, it will all 15. Complete replacement it rarely requires, and fires in engine compartment Mondeos are rare. Overheating due to the unsuccessful design of the pipes of the cooling system, pumps (however, this is more for 2.5 and 3.0 liter engines) occur regularly. They also often criticize not the most successful firmware for 1.8 motors, because of which they are prone to "swimming" revolutions, and the motor can even suddenly stall if throttle slightly dirty.

Back in 2000, Ford officially presented its new product - the third generation Ford Mondeo (Mk III). This model lasted on the conveyor right up to 2007, until it was replaced by Mondeo fourth generation... Ford Mondeo 3 in production in three different bodies- sedan, liftback and station wagon. For seven years of its release, the model has gone through 2 restyling in 2003 and 2005. To a greater extent, the restyling process affected body parts such as bumpers, fog lights, taillights. Small changes have also been made to the interior details.

    Petrol engines Ford Mondeo III:

In the third generation of the Mondeo model, it was decided to abandon low-thrust 1.6 engines, so the minimum possible engine volume on this model starts from 1.8 liters. The four-cylinder 1.8 Duratec HE engines (models CGBA; CGBB; CHBA; CHBB) were installed from 2000 to 2007 and, depending on the modification, had either 110 or 125 hp. under the hood. This engine development Japanese Mazda, in which he had the designation MZR L8 (L813; L823; L828) with 115-120-125 hp. at 5300-5500-6500 rpm. and was installed on cars such as Mazda 5, 6 and MX5, respectively. During its life the motor "1.8 Duratec HE" was modernized by the appearance of such systems as: channel control intake manifold with swirler, throttle valve with electronic control and direct ignition from ignition coils. In a modernized form, this engine was installed on such Ford models as the C-Max I and Focus II. In 2003, Ford presented a new 1.8 (CFBA) engine with the SCi (Smart Charge Injection) index, which already had direct fuel injection and produced 130 hp. at 6000 rpm.

    Ford Mondeo III 2000-2003

Motor Ford Mondeo 2.0 Duratec HE (CJBA; CJBB) 145 hp at 6000 rpm. are also identical to the Mazda MZR LF (LF17; LF18; LFF7). In fact, engines with volumes 1.8 and 2.0 are identical in design, their main difference is only in the cylinder diameter of 83.0 mm. and 87.5 mm. respectively. If you choose from these two engines, then, of course, the unit with two liters of volume looks preferable - it is more traction, elastic, quieter and at the same time has exactly the same fuel consumption as the version with a volume of 1.8 liters. Both of these engines have a timing chain drive, a chain resource of 250-300 thousand km. Hydraulic lifters on these motors are not provided, therefore, every 150 thousand km, please, to replace the pushers.

Special attention in these motors requires such attachments as a generator, a thermostat, fuel pump and EGR valve. Do not save on good fuel and oil - the service life of well-maintained Duratec HE engines with volumes of 1.8 and 2.0 liters is about 450-550 thousand km. Owners of a 1.8-liter engine often complain about floating rpm when the engine is running, often this was due to either an unsuccessful engine firmware or a dirty throttle valve.

    Ford Mondeo III 2003-2007

The 1.8 SCi engine is a rarity in the CIS, but it is safe to say that sooner or later the injection pump and fuel injectors will become its weak points - replacing the first with a new one will require $ 2500, replacing the second - $ 200 apiece. You can also mention the problems of the availability of the necessary spare parts due to the great rarity of this power plant.

    Ford Mondeo III Liftback 2003-2007

FROM positive side The six-cylinder V6 engines with volumes of 2.5 and 3.0 liters have proven themselves. These engines are cousins of the Jaguar AJ-V6 series engines, namely the AJ25 and AJ30, which were installed on the Jaguar X-Type and S-Type. For Ford Mondeo there was one version of the 2.5L engine. is an LCBD model that produced 170 hp. at 6000 rpm. The three-liter power plant had two versions - this is the REBA model with a capacity of 204 hp. at 6000 rpm for normal civil version Mondeo and MEBA with 226 hp. at 6250 rpm for the sports version ST220. Just like inline fours, V6 engines have a timing chain drive, the resource of which is approximately the same 250-300 thousand km. The sores are about the same as on the younger brothers, but as an addition, we can say that because of the not entirely successful cooling system, six-pot motors are prone to overheating. The resource of V6 engines reaches 500-600 thousand km. without major repairs.

    Diesel engines Ford Mondeo III:

There were four variants of diesel engines in total - these are 2.0 Duratorg TDDi (D5BA; SDBA) with a power of 90 hp. at 4000 rpm, 2.0 Duratorg TDDi and TDCi (D6BA; HJBA; HJBB; HJBC) with 115 hp. at 4000 rpm, 2.0 Duratorg TDCi (FMBA; N7BA) with 130 hp at 3800 rpm. and a turbo diesel with a volume of 2.2 liters. Duratorg TDCi (QJBA; QJBB) 155 hp at 3500 rpm. On engines with the TDDi index, which were produced before 2003, for direct injection The fuel was supplied by a Bosch rotary vane pump VP30 or VP44. Since 2003, the Common Rail system has been installed on engines with the TDCi index. The TDDi engine is structurally simpler and the TDCi engine more efficient. With regard to diesels, everything is quite simple on the one hand ... but difficult on the other. Today is 2017 in the yard and the probability of finding a good option with diesel engine Hardly ever. A good option- this is when you do not need to invest in the repair of the fuel system of the diesel Mondeo, because this will lead to significant financial losses. The stories of magazine specialists about burnouts of pistons, valves and rotated liners are nothing more than horror stories and isolated cases of completely neglected specimens. When refueling with a good solarium, regular maintenance Ford Mondeo Mk3 with a diesel engine its 200-250 thousand km. takes care of it in one breath, but then, as a rule, a headache begins with fuel system, particulate filter and EGR valve.

    Transmission Ford Mondeo III:

On the third generation Mondeo, two types were installed mechanical boxes gearshifts are MTX75 with five gears and MMT6 with six. Both options are extremely reliable and without opening they take care of more than 150-200 thousand km. It is very important to change the flywheel in one go when changing the clutch!

And here automatic boxes transmissions cannot boast of special reliability. Until 2003, as a four-speed automatic transmission on the Mondeo 3, a model was installed, which began its production history as early as 1994, the Ford CD4E. The box "brake", the box has a number of design problems, first of all, it is a bad oil pump, weak solenoids in the valve body, an unsuccessful chain in the drive and a double drum. The only plus of this automatic transmission is cheap spare parts and relatively low price the repair itself. The average resource of this automatic transmission model is 100 thousand km, after the bulkhead, a lottery begins - the resource jumps from 50 to 100 thousand km.

    Ford Mondeo III 2001-2003

    Ford Mondeo III 2003-2007

With restyling, a new automatic transmission with five steps came - this is the Jatco 5F31J model (aka JF506E, JA5A-EL, 09A). This box was also installed on some models of Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volkswagen cars. The resource of this automatic transmission with careful operation is about 150-200 thousand km. Of the sores of this automatic transmission, we can note the wear of the rubber seals of the pistons and clogging of the pressure control solenoid with dirt.

Steering and suspension Ford Mondeo III:

The steering rack is able to hold out about 200-250 thousand km until it is replaced. The suspension is also very reliable, the first problems with silent blocks, strut supports, springs will occur no earlier than 100-150 thousand km. It should be mentioned that the rear suspension of the station wagon is structurally different from the suspensions of the liftback and sedan - it is stronger and more reliable.

Ford Mondeo III Owner Reviews

Ford Mondeo III, 2002

I can confidently call the Ford Mondeo III my old and good friend, who has never let you down! I have been driving a car for four years and the mileage here is not "childish", but it seems that you just drove a car from a car dealership! In terms of design appearance, and the way the salon is made - everything is perfect, I really like it! The biggest plus is that my "Ford" did not even think to spoil my mood. You just ride it and enjoy life, but just do not forget that he is your friend, which means that you treat him as with a friend and do not forget that you need to go through all the planned maintenance, do not skimp on "consumables". In terms of driving performance, controllability - this has already been said and retold so much that I will not repeat myself, what can I say about something that everyone already knows.

The only drawback of the Mondeo III is that it always needs only high quality gasoline, at least so that the gas station you call in is more or less famous brand... Once, when I just started driving, I drove in to refuel at our "local", I call them oil traders, so then after their fuel there were a lot of problems. "Ford" refuses to "digest" such gasoline, so they had to remove the tank, clean everything there, replace filters, and the fuel pump. Now I have already learned from bitter experience, so I only go to proven gas stations and everything is super with my car - it drives me like a breeze.

Dignity : interior and exterior design, driving performance, handling.

disadvantages : only high quality gasoline is needed.

Ford Mondeo III, 2003

During Ford operation Mondeo III has never failed, if we judge adequately. Comfortable rear compartment, front row seats do not cause much inconvenience to passengers in the back. Roomy trunk. Full spare wheel- important distinctive feature from modern cars... The downside of this car, like some other Fords, is the way the hood is opened. Just pointless, never understood Henry. The air from the stove blows very well, the interior quickly warms up in winter. But it is difficult to start in the cold. With a new battery in Finland this year at -35C refused to start. I had to use a tractor from a local owner. Thank God that the manual transmission! They brought it in, everything is fine. I sin on our gasoline.

The speed indicators are good, I didn't squeeze everything out - it's noisy. But 180 km / h - "flies" easily and confidently. You can talk without raising your voice. Oil with a run of 90,000 km ate 300 grams (from "MAX" to the middle of the level). Once I filled it in, I ride. Servicemen say that there is no need to top up. Natural "waste" of oil from replacement to replacement, i.e. at 120,000 km - the norm. The spare parts have their own nuances, you can't predict everything, there is a lot of European "non-original" of decent quality, at an affordable price.

Dignity : I like the rear suspension, the child went back to sleep constantly. I consider the 2-liter engine to be the “golden mean”. The dynamics of the car is amazing.

disadvantages : expensive original parts.

Ford Mondeo III, 2005

At first, the feelings were exclusively "euphoric" - this is the first new car in the family. Everything is clean, it smells nice. Over time, the former gloss disappeared, but the positive feelings remained. The car is very comfortable for its class and the price of that time. The seats of the Ford Mondeo III are covered with high-quality and pleasant to the touch fabric, they do not heat up much in summer, in winter you can get into an unheated car without discomfort, but in extreme cases there is a multi-stage heated front seats. Soft plastic on the doors and torpedo leather steering wheel, in the middle of the "beard" is a representative Sony radio tape recorder. In general, the interior is quite classic. Handling - here I did not notice any special flaws, well, I would not note any outstanding abilities of the car either. Yes, it confidently enters the turn, but you should not forget about the speed. Ford Mondeo III brakes are very grippy, never let down. Comfort in the cabin when driving at the level. Noise isolation is a "head" higher than most "Japanese", the plastic is soft and therefore there are no extraneous sounds, well, sitting - steering is comfortable, the review is again good.

Dynamics: This is where the car loses. And, as it seems to me, it's all about the automatic, yes, yes, the "ancient" 4-speed automatic. You drive 100 km / h, press the "sneaker" on the floor, the car with the sound of a trolleybus picking up speed is quietly driving forward, especially when fully loaded. And what I also disliked was the vague gas pedal. And the most important thing is safety. I checked it myself. The car worked 100 percent and if it didn’t save a life, then it definitely saved it from serious injuries. I was driving around the new Riga about 180 km / h, in front of me in a technological turn the "Nine" unfolded. I slowed down twenty meters, tried to get away, but failed. "Nine" turned over, I turned around. Was strapped on, felt nothing, not a single scratch. Passengers with rear seat nines with severe injuries have been treated for over a year. Everyone is healthy now.

Dignity : comfort. Finishing. Safety.

disadvantages : automatic

Ford Mondeo III, 2004

At first impressions, Ford Mondeo III seemed to be very playful and dynamic, spacious, comfortable and soft. Liked the large (for a sedan) trunk. Mondeo has a very good acceleration, it's nice to keep it at a speed of up to (120), it is not comfortable and expensive. I clocked up to 180 km / h as much as possible once as an experiment. Feels like he can easily do more, but I did not find a suitable path for such a feat, and there was no desire. It keeps the road well: on long bends at a speed of about 100 km / h, even being thrown on a bump, it did not have to be caught. When changing lanes across the track in winter, you don't need to catch it either, it holds the road perfectly. The brakes are a separate issue. Compared to many conventional cars, the Ford Mondeo III is rooted to the spot when braking hard. But this is in the summer. In winter, due to the heavy weight of the car and the ABS, the braking is quite long. There is a lot of space ahead for both the driver and the passenger. There is also a lot of space behind. The knees do not rest. Can comfortably fit 3 medium men (70-100 kg). Also in the background, 2 children in car seats and a wife in the middle of them feel good. Consumes about 12 liters per 100 km. Doesn't eat oil at all. The pads last for a long time. The car is reliable in handling. I never let you down. It rarely breaks, spare parts are inexpensive, there is everything for disassembly. Much interchangeable from other Fords. It is being repaired at home in the garage with my own hands, but I have 2 of my excellent craftsmen.

Dignity : smart. Maneuverable. Good brakes. Excellent road holding. Reliable. Inexpensive and easy to maintain. Heating in the front and rear window... Spacious interior and trunk.

disadvantages : low. It clings to curbs, cannot drive into a "winter" parking space. Strange hood lock. Front wheel bearings serve 20 thousand km.

Ford Mondeo III, 2006

The overall impression of the Ford Mondeo III is excellent. Ford was operated from the moment of purchase until April 2013, walked 101,500 km, visited and felt for himself, and more than once, almost any conditions, ranging from frost under -30 and ending with heat for +40, in snowfalls and showers with hail in extremely low visibility. Both are rather long (Moscow, Ukraine, Astrakhan region, Crimea). For all this time, nothing has caused serious complaints. At the same time, he flew once on a road near Kursk at night on and so almost a "front road" into a hole, breaking both right wheels and killing one disc, but even the suspension, as it turned out after checking, did not warp in any way. Convergence-collapse, however, still set up once during the operation - but this is already supposed to be done periodically. I have never failed even in cold weather with the launch. True, it was operated almost daily, starting in 2009 (the battery is constantly being charged). Driving performance... I think it's great. Even in extreme braking, even in a sharp turn with such, he always clearly goes behind the wheel and obeys him. I love to drive, with a passport of 9.8 to a hundred, it was quite possible, the dimensions were very well felt. Every sandpiper, of course, praises his swamp, but every day, driving 20 km around the city and 20 along the highway to work, even in the worst snowy or wet weather I stuck out in the high-speed left lane and rarely interfered with the cars going behind. In bad weather, perhaps, this is even a one-time situation at all - at the same time, the car instilled only a sense of confidence. Consumption of 7.8-8.2 l / 100 km on the highway and somewhere around 10.5-11.5 in the city, given the Moscow traffic jams, is quite the norm. Comfortableness. Excellent. Now moved to new mercedes"E-shku" - more comfortable, of course, but not radically. Plus, Ford has a higher ceiling (my height is 181 cm, I like sitting position). The salon is very spacious, the seats are comfortable. A family of 4 adults traveled 1200 km - no problem.

Dignity : design. Ergonomics. Comfortableness. Finishing. Service availability. Adaptation to Russian conditions.

disadvantages : small.

Ford Mondeo III, 2003

"Mondeo 3" 2003 1.8 MT, at that time I was the 4th owner with a range of 153 thousand (rewound by itself, but that's not the point). The engine, in principle, suited me (125 hp), I'm not a racer, I drove 80-110, accelerated a couple of times for the sake of interest, how long it will go, maximum speed 205, no longer drives. Moreover, it accelerates slowly due to its weight. For normal driving on the highway and in the city, it is enough, Gasoline eats average (well, for its class, of course) - a mixed consumption of 8 liters, a highway of 6 liters at 80-90 km, a city up to 12 liters with a climate. I ate up the oil at a brisk and high speed, filled the floor with synthetics, changed every 8 thousand, 5 liters all went away. In principle, the fact that it ate a little was not particularly annoying, the car is not new. There were no problems with the engine at all, but the equipment, the generator (light flashed), the fan, the pump were replaced. The handbrake did it myself (the handbrake wedges and does not let go) eliminated with the usual reinforced spring. On the way - sound insulation is rather weak, but the suspension and weight of the Ford Mondeo III do their job. The car holds the road very well, and there is no difference between 80 km / h and 180 km / h, everything is clear, the side wind does not blow away. Beautiful appearance and interior at a height, I really liked the soft interior upholstery (torpedo and door panels) which for 12 years has neither rubbed nor scratched. The seats are not to say that they are excellent, the front is comfortable, the back never got tired, and at the back there is a jamb with latches for seat belts, I immediately unscrewed them, of course, there is a lot of space, but if you turn when driving, then it is not comfortable to sit in the back, people will feel like firewood , which will be thrown, then to the left, then to the right. Now for the service. Expensive, but I didn't buy the original and didn't really feel the pressure of finance.

Dignity : torquey engine. Comfortable salon. Reliable if you follow.

disadvantages : insulation is rather weak.

Ford Mondeo III, 2005

I own a Ford Mondeo III for over 10 years. Investments - several times bearings (hubs), springs in a circle, rear struts. A couple of years ago I changed the thermostat, the other day (finally) the generator flew. I changed the battery a month ago, it started up perfectly, but - 10 years and winter is ahead. Otherwise, no problem. Of course, consumables changed (pads, once the disks were changed), I try to change the oil every 10-12 thousand (pour my native "Ford"). Several times with a full load we rode south, to Sevastopol, we regularly go to Finland - all without the slightest hint of problems, the consumption on the highway, even after 170 thousand, is about 7 liters per hundred. I'm happy with the car.

Dignity : the budgetary cost of spare parts. Maintainability. Ease of driving. Comfort (especially in winter conditions). Reliability.

disadvantages : Hood lock. Small volume of the washer reservoir.
