Affordable Daewoo Gentra sedan: test drive. Should you buy? Daewoo Gentra resource tests

03.07.2021

On June 21 this year, we attended multi-brand test drives of cars, which were organized by the Multi Motors Group company. Read more about the event itself. On the eve of the races, in the list of cars offered for test drive, we found an unfamiliar name - Daewoo gentra... And we decided to try this car, since there is little written about inexpensive, budget models in the press. We drove along a special road through broken asphalt in places, an uneven bumpy dirt road with puddles and rather sharp turns. Then we passed a platform with maneuvering posts.

By the way, for reference: Daewoo Gentra is nothing more than the well-known brainchild of the General Motors (GM) concern - Chevrolet Lacetti, the production of which under this brand has been discontinued. The Daewoo plant, located in Uzbekistan, has begun production of a model that has already been discontinued, but is still in demand. Efforts have been made to reduce production costs in order to offer customers a truly inexpensive and reasonably reliable vehicle. Reliability can be indicated by the fact that dealers offer an extended warranty for five years. The factory warranty is two years of operation or a mileage of 100 thousand km.

An example of the fact that the model for production in Uzbekistan has been successfully chosen is the fact that a large number of Lacetti work in taxis. This indicates the low cost of the kilometers traveled, which is so important in this business.

About the price of the car: Gentra is available from 399,000 rubles, although for this money you will not even get airbags (they will appear in the configuration for 420,000). For 500,000 there will already be airbags and air conditioning, but the gearbox is mechanical. The maximum configuration with a Korean-made automatic gearbox (by the way, the real one is a torque converter, and not just a robotic one) will cost 549,000 rubles.

A few words about the motor. Gentra does not have a variety of power units - it is possible to have one single gasoline 16-valve 1.5-liter, producing 108 hp. The engine is quite modern, meets the EURO5 standards and at the same time is understandable from the point of view of repairs. Gasoline will have to be filled in 95th. Note that the timing system uses a chain, which eliminates the need for regular and expensive timing belt replacement.

The test drive showed that the power and torque for the hardworking machine is quite enough. Anyone who wants more frisky behavior from Gentra can try to do it.

As for the dimensions of the cabin, everything is also not bad here - even for passengers in the back, and the trunk (400 liters) in fact turns out to be larger than it seems from the outside.

The torpedo and the dashboard are made in a faceless, traditional style of Japanese models of the 90s of the 20th century. The plastic used is quite decent, the accuracy of processing the interior details is also at the level.

Although a little ridiculous and cheap finish imitating a valuable species of wood attracted attention. Simple stripes of black or silver would look much more appropriate.

The audio system in its sound corresponds to the general budget level of the car.

The disadvantage, in our opinion, is that the Gentra is only available as a sedan. But the station wagon-Lacetti was simply created for trips to the country with things, a dog, building materials, etc.

Also, in the maximum configuration, I would like to see the climate control system, and not just the on / off button for the air conditioner.
Other parameters of the car - sound insulation, suspension operation, manual transmission, handling corresponded to the class of inexpensive cars, and did not cause irritation.

Summing up, we can say that given that Uzbek-made spare parts are not expensive, used cars, by analogy with Nexia, will be in stable demand (unless, of course, they suddenly start to "crumble" after a certain run). This gives a significant advantage over Chinese cars - Gentra's main competitors. The car is suitable for those who are primarily interested in the low price of the vehicle, as well as the cost of the traveled kilometer, and at the same time want to get all the advantages of a new car.

P.S. We would like to thank Multi Motors Group and Elan-Motors car dealership for the test drive.

To be honest, the test drive of Daewoo Gentra did not arouse much interest among the people. Having a good idea of all the characteristics of the Chevrolet Lacetti, a thing of the past, you do not expect anything new from its direct heir. Unless you hope that he will be no worse than his ancestor. In principle, this is how it happened.

With certain external innovations, the filling remained the same in the model. It is understandable - why modernize and improve what is already recognized and loved by potential buyers. Although this position of the manufacturer still causes some disappointment: a new acquaintance with the old is always not as interesting as with something still unknown.

The test drive Daewoo Gentra, however, confirmed the reputation of Lacetti that left the scene and laid the foundation for a good opinion of herself. And some qualities of the model even turned out to be a pleasant novelty. However, not a single tester was able to avoid constantly comparing the two machines.

New look: If you approach the issue with an open mind, the appearance of all modern cars is, in principle, the same. The difference is mainly in the details, due to which individual models are remembered. The Gentra did not show any particular striking features. The overall outline is average; when compared with the same Lacetti, the face is more impetuous, the headlights are more elegant, the foglights are not so rough, the radiator grille is more elegant. In general, a less clumsy and more modern appearance.

Comfort upgrade

At first, sitting in the salon, you pay attention to some nondescript, standard and old-fashioned design. However, the plastic, albeit a simple one, is quite high-quality, can be washed without difficulty, and the panels are well-fitted to each other, do not rattle or creak when moving. There is enough space for all sorts of improvised stash - there is even a pocket on the side of the passenger seat. The steering wheel adjusts not only in the standard way, but also for the departure, which is rarely found in this class of car.

The front seats are heated, and the interior is equipped with air conditioning (however, the latter is not included in the minimum salary, but only a step higher and 20,000 more expensive - please).

Even in the basic configuration, they are provided (also with seat belts) that even in a car of a higher class is often an additional option, power windows and a full stuffing of mirrors: a servo drive, heating plus electric folding.

The disadvantages of salon equipment include the following:

  • the doors close quite hard: if you don't slam, you won't obey;
  • , but you need to open it in the old fashioned way, with a key. Okay, the trunk - this is still quite common, but the doors!
  • unlike Lacetti, there is no way to adjust the instrument lighting;
  • side airbags and stabilization system are not provided - even if you are ready to pay extra;
  • there is still no inner handle on the trunk, so when you close your hands you will definitely have to get dirty;
  • air conditioner - exclusively manual, with buttons. Climate control is absent even in the top-end configuration.

As for the drive

With the engine range, the Gentra is worse than the Lacetti. If the latter was offered with engines of 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 liters, then only one and a half valve with 16 valves with a declared power of 150 horses is put on the novelty - the same one that is mounted on the Chevrolet Cobalt. On the other hand, the motor has a significantly longer and more reliable timing chain drive. This unit comes with a 6-speed gearbox instead of the morally and physically outdated 4-5 speed gearbox that was on the Lacetti.

Additionally, it is worth noting the precise operation of the machine: it shifts correctly, with a slight throttle release, so that gear changes are smooth and almost imperceptible. The accelerator is also not bad at work: it reacts instantly, does not dull, even if it does not have a sports mode.

When driving, the engine shows itself to be quite grasping. Yes, not racing (acceleration to a hundred - in 11.9 seconds), but it pulls on its class perfectly, even at maximum revs it retains a normal voice, does not squeal and does not shake the body.

What the testers didn't like was the Gentra's response to oncoming air strikes and gusty side winds. The car starts to walk, trying to get out of the direction, and you have to steer it, returning it back on track. The car is just as nervous about transverse joints and obstacles on the road and deep enough ruts. The Gentra's steering wheel is informative, however, and the brakes are grippy enough to cope with its temper.

But the car just great on bad roads, of which we have in abundance. The suspension is so bouncy - but not stiff! - that copes without problems with pits and bumps at a pretty decent speed. At the same time, those who are in the cabin do not observe a noticeable shaking, and the joints of the car do not rumble.

The Gentra's gas mileage in mixed driving mode turned out to be about 8.5 liters - quite decent, although the imagination is not striking. On the track, as the testers calculated, about 7. It is difficult to say more precisely, since the model does not have a trip computer that records the costs on board.

In general, the test drive of Daewoo Gentra did not reveal any obvious flaws, blunders and negligence in the assembly. The pickers in Uzbekistan tried, of course, worse than the Japanese, but definitely better than the Chinese.

Overall impression: no worse than Lacetti. And if you add the price and the nuances of the package to the list, it’s even better. With the declared value, only the Chinese can compete with Gentra, and with a proposal for a more expanded minced meat. However, with the worst engine, quickly rusting body and unreliable suspension.

Recently, an open presentation was held in Moscow, at which Uz-Daewoo presented its creation - Daewoo Gentra 2019 (recently, the model is not sold under the brand name Daewoo and under Ravon). I managed to attend this event and learn a lot of interesting things about the new product. Most of the changes in appearance occurred at the front of the car. The 2019 Ravon / Daewoo Gentra gets an all-new bonnet with subtle embossings, large teardrop headlights and a neat chrome-trimmed grille.

Fog lights received a new rectangular shape with beveled corners. The front bumper protrudes slightly to give the vehicle a solid, presentable appearance. Personally, I would not give the sedan a solid "five" for the exterior. It turned out to be very simple and even dull. Although, as for a budget car, such a design is fine.

Also updated and.

The ground clearance was only 160 mm. It is quite obvious that you have to be careful when driving with such a ground clearance. In the photo of the 2019 Ravon / Daewoo Gentra, you can see the new side mirrors, painted in body color and equipped with turn signals.

From the side you can see the sloping domed roof, the high line of the window sill extending upwards and the not very massive wheel arches. The rear view of the car looks more solid. I liked the large glass area, the massive trunk lid, the neat bumper protruding and the large vertical lights.

Slightly updated interior

Before looking into the cabin, I carefully examined the luggage compartment. Its new volume is 405 liters. The 2019 Daewoo Gentra video shows well how it can be easily increased to 1225 liters by folding the second-row seats. The interior of the new model is simple and rather modest. I did not see any frills, interesting elements. The most common dashboard, which has clean, clean lines, has been slightly redesigned. The center console has decreased in size. The steering wheel is very ordinary.

But here's what I really did not expect that with such modesty, the quality of finishing materials would be at their best. When inspecting the interior, I did not notice any visible imperfections, gaps, cracks and problems with fasteners. Everything is done conscientiously. I am glad that the "oak" plastic was replaced with a higher quality one. I also liked the decorative elements for wood, which are located on the dashboard and on the doors. I was impressed by the basic equipment of the car. It included:

  • ABS system;
  • air conditioning;
  • immobilizer;
  • power windows;
  • fog lights.

Specifications are modest

At the presentation, the manufacturer said that the car will be delivered to Russia with only one engine option. It will be a petrol 1.5-liter engine with 107 hp. It will work in conjunction with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Despite the fact that the motor is the latest development of the company, I can in no way call it economical. Specifications Daewoo Gentra 2019 2020 could be an order of magnitude higher. But, while the car is capable of accelerating to hundreds of km / h in 12.0 seconds. Fuel consumption will average between 6.52 and 9.46 liters. The maximum speed of Gentra is 165 km / h. As you can see, the indicators are far from ideal for such a motor.

At the presentation, I learned that five Ravon Daewoo Gentra 2019 trim levels will be on sale in Russia. You can choose from the following versions: Comfort, Comfort Plus, Optimum, Optimum Plus and Elegant. Basic equipment includes:

  • fog lights;
  • frontal airbags;
  • immobilizer;
  • full power accessories;
  • electrically adjustable side mirrors;
  • heated front seats, mirrors.

The price in Moscow for Daewoo Gentra 2019 in this configuration will be 420,000 rubles. The cost of intermediate configurations will be in the range of 450 to 550,000 rubles. The price of the maximum configuration of the Ravon Gentra in 2019 starts from 600,000 rubles.

Competitors in the market are strong

As the main competitors of Daewoo Gentra 2019, I identified Renault Logan and Lada Prioru... I would like to say about the first rival that it is equipped with excellent optics, a comfortable steering wheel, and a reliable braking system. In addition, the car is distinguished by excellent handling, high reliability, and corrosion resistance.

Note that the 2019 Ravon Gentra and Renault interior is spacious and comfortable. Ravona has plenty of room for both front and rear passengers. Many drivers note the easy handling as well as the low fuel consumption. I will add on my own what exactly Renault Logan is a car that rarely needs repair.

Of the shortcomings, I singled out a not very modern and beautiful appearance, rather an amateur, average sound insulation, as well as a medium-level paintwork. I am pleased with the quality of finishing materials in the cabin.

It seems to me, Lada Priora has a more attractive appearance than Renault, however, it is still inferior to Daewoo Gentre. The popularity of the car is due to its low fuel consumption, decent dynamics, as well as solid equipment.

The owners of Lada confirm that the car is easy to drive, clearly maintains a given trajectory and perfectly manifests itself in our difficult climatic conditions. It will not be difficult to start the Priora the first time in severe frost.

Among the disadvantages of Lada, one can note the same soundproofing, a small interior in which it is practically impossible to turn around, a weak paintwork, which quickly leads to body corrosion.

Main pros and cons

As the reviews of the 2019 Daewoo Gentra owners show, the car still has more advantages than disadvantages. I fully confirm this. My opinion was influenced by the new video about Ravon / Daewoo Gentra 2020, which I watched at the presentation. I think the main advantages of the car are:

  1. Affordable, attractive price for most buyers.
  2. Good basic equipment.
  3. Convenient dashboard.
  4. The presence of adjustments in the driver's seat.
  5. Folding side mirrors.
  6. Good handling.

And from the shortcomings I can single out:

  1. Cramped interior.
  2. Small ground clearance.
  3. Average insulation (like everyone else in this price class).
  4. Inconvenient heated seats.
  5. Lack of brightness control of the instrument panel illumination.
  6. Not very economical fuel consumption.

Despite such a decent list of Ravon Gentra's cons, the car is still in demand. It is especially used in the commercial sector.

Now take a look at and.

Having held out on the assembly line for 9 years, the American-Korean sedan Chevrolet Lacetti did not retire, but found a second youth and with the new name Daewoo Gentra again entered the assembly line!

The Daewoo Gentra model is completely built on the latest generation Lacetti units and assemblies. But there are still some curious differences between cars - and this is where you need to start. First of all, "Gentra" has a more modern and interesting appearance, and the main changes affected the front end: the optics became narrower and took a teardrop shape, the bumpers received a new sculpture, the relief of the hood and the contours of the fog lights got a different design. The profile and feed of the Gentra and Lacetti are almost identical.

The interior of the Daewoo Gentra almost entirely repeats what could be seen in the Chevrolet Lacetti. The five-seater salon is quite spacious, however, when opening the car doors for the first time, the eye is somehow not happy. For example, the seat upholstery is reminiscent of velor. Perhaps someone will like this fabric, but I think this is not the most practical material for such a practical budget car. But not every classmate of Gentra can boast of such elements of driving comfort as headrests, armrests and other little things.

Of course, the Uzbek assembly cannot be called ideal, but it is quite worthy: there are no visible problems with fasteners, as well as obvious gaps between the parts.
At the same time, there are some questions about the quality of materials, as well as about certain overly budgetary designs. If the plastic looks even more or less acceptable, then it is harsh and cheap to the touch. For example, the lever for controlling the rear-view mirrors is flimsy, the steering wheel is not at all pleasant to the touch, and the gearshift lever is made in the old-fashioned way - to engage reverse gear, you need to pull up the ring. You will have to get used to this, although such a solution has a big plus - you definitely won't miss the "back".

The ergonomics are normal here, everything is at hand and in sight. In numerous pockets and drawers you can shove a bunch of small things, the steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach. And some of the ergonomic solutions of Daewoo Gentra made me happy: for example, the trunk lid can be opened by pressing a large button located on the driver's door above the speaker.

In general, in this car, if you remember and understand its "class affiliation", there is little to find fault with. The dashboard is simple, straightforward and quite informative, and the greenish backlight does not hurt the eyes. The standard audio system includes a radio receiver and a CD / MP3 player with an AUX connector and six speakers, which provide a fairly high-quality and pleasant sound.

The driver's seat is mechanically adjustable, there is a lumbar support adjustment. But the profile of the front seats is literally absent, so it is not very comfortable to sit. The back sofa is designed for three, but it is better to sit there together.

The trunk is too small - only 405 liters, but under its floor there is a full-size spare wheel, and the lid is endowed with felt upholstery and the groove itself is processed (and on many state employees there is just bare metal).

But the most interesting is the next question - what is the Daewoo Gentra on the go? The engine on the car is a 1.5-liter, delivering 107 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque.

It is combined with a "mechanic" for five gears or a modern 6-band "automatic". First, about the version with the MCP. The grip of such a "Gentra" is friendly, so even a beginner can get under way the first time. When spinning up, the motor is noticeably bass. The clarity of gear shifting is not perfect, but at the same time it is better than, for example, in Lada Granta. Even under load, the engine in tandem with the "mechanics" confidently accelerates the car, briskly and without effort. The dynamics are quite enough to feel confident in city traffic and on the highway, with reasonable overtaking.
One of the advantages of the engine is that with a 16-valve configuration, it pulls confidently from the very bottom, like an 8-valve. Therefore, high gears can be turned on early, and downshifted less often. The first gear is short, so when you start, you can turn on the second one almost immediately. However, it is worth noting that the gear ratios are selected so that at a speed of 120 km / h the arrow on the tachometer reaches almost 4000 rpm, and there is a strong hum of the engine in the cabin. It is also joined by road noise, and all due to the unsatisfactory sound insulation of the wheel arches.

The Daewoo Gentra also rides well with an automatic transmission. Moreover, the dynamics of overclocking is practically no different. The gearbox clearly clicks off the steps, slightly dumping the gas, so gear changes are almost imperceptible. There is no "blunting", the reactions to pressing the accelerator are fast. Plus there is an honest manual mode that works great. Well, the sixth gear allows you to save fuel. In the city, "automatic" is much more convenient than "mechanics", especially with its good work. And on the track, no uncertainty arises, so overtaking can not be neglected.

The Uzbek sedan has a simple suspension design: McPherson struts in front, multi-link rear. Therefore, there will be no problems with its maintenance. The chassis of the Daewoo Gentra is forgiving. On rather large holes and irregularities, the speed can not be slowed down, thanks to the excellent energy intensity of the suspension. But the sedan does not completely hide small and medium irregularities, which may make it seem a little harsh. At the same time, the chassis is dealing with them resiliently and quietly. Undoubtedly, the ability of "Gentra" to drive on bad roads will be to the taste of its owners, and only Renault Logan can compare with it in this indicator among budget foreign cars.
On the track, the sedan behaves as expected docile and stably, the rolls are, of course, present, but they are not very pronounced, and on the arc the car is quite tenacious. However, this continues as long as there is even asphalt under the wheels, and calm outside the window. It turned out that the "Gentra" reacts a little nervously to air "shock waves" from trucks and a side wind - perceptibly wagging and thus requiring adjustments by the steering wheel. Therefore, when driving to an open area, for example, from a forest, you need to be on the lookout. He does not like Gentra and asphalt tracks, especially if you get into them during a lane change: the sedan starts to "walk" along the lane.
The steering wheel of the Daewoo Gentra with a hydraulic booster, which is perceived a little tight against the background of electric analogs, although it does not disappoint with "emptiness". However, "Gentra" does not claim the laurels of the driver's car, this is not its purpose.
The car's brakes are excellent and grippy, both front and rear, they are discs. The sedan slows down confidently.

In general, we can say that the Daewoo Gentra sedan is a decent car at a low cost. In many qualities, it bypasses both the Chevrolet Lacetti and the budget models of more famous companies than UZ-Daewoo. Of course, the car has disadvantages, but they are not so significant, and even more significant advantages make them almost invisible. We can say that Gentra is a proven "Lacetti" with a slightly different appearance, new equipment and lower cost.

From Uzbekistan to Mineralnye Vody, one of the most inexpensive and, as it follows, expected C-class sedans, Daewoo Gentra, finally arrived. In Russia, he is called Deo Gentra, but more often Gentra, as evidenced by an elementary query in Yandex. We will not give statistics of such queries, but we can say that now, as soon as you type in the word "Daewoo", the search engine suggests that you are looking for "Gentru". That is why the expansion of the model range of Uz-Daewoo could not go unnoticed and on a rainy Sunday afternoon, representatives of the site's editorial board went to test the new product so that readers could appreciate all the advantages and disadvantages of cheapness.

Once in Uzbekistan, they preferred to base their "new" models on the Opel lineup. As an example, we can cite the long-forgotten Royale XQ and Royale Prince, as well as the well-known in Russia Nexia, which is associated with Kadett E. In the case of Daewoo Gentra, the manufacturer took a different path, although also associated with the General Motors corporation.

Opinion

The quality of Gentra must be at a high level, because it is assembled at the GM Powertrain Uzbekistan plant, the same where the Chevrolet Cobalt is produced, which replaced Lacetti.

The prototype of the novelty was the Chevrolet Lacetti sedan. This is easily explained by the popularity of the car not only in Russia, but also in other countries. Apparently, GM realized that it was impossible to lose customers, constantly increasing demand for this model. In addition, such a move, most likely, will greatly popularize the UZ-Daewoo brand and will continue the successful expansion of the Russian automotive market.

Appearance

In fact, the Gentra is not at all an absolute Lacetti clone - rather, it is a facelift version of an existing car, produced under a different brand. The transformations touched the front end of the body - the morally outdated appearance of Lacetti was modernized: the headlights were narrowed and given a teardrop shape, the bumper architecture was changed by adding a sports center cutout along the lower part, which affected the foglights. The hood and radiator grill are also new.

But in profile and behind the cars (Gentra and Lacetti) are practically indistinguishable. The silhouette is one-to-one with the prototype. There is still a low slope of the A-pillars and C-pillars, as well as a sloping glazing line along the side. And the stern has only slightly changed due to almost imperceptible small touches: the newly becoming fashionable vertical headlights, an enlarged bumper and a trunk lid. This loyalty to tradition is explained by the fact that from these sides (side and rear) the body initially looked good, was recognizable and, along with the price tag, added to the popularity of the model. And yet, these contours are largely outdated. So we cannot highly appreciate the design of Daewoo Gentra.

In addition, the car was very upset by the lack of even the slightest photogenicity. The body design is somehow very ordinary, if not even “gray”. During the test drive of the Daewoo Gentra, we drove around Mineralnye Vody for about an hour and a half just to find a background against which this model would not merge so much with the outside world.

Opinion

This design is more neutral and versatile, and fancy elements could hinder sales.

The photo is in front of you and judge for yourself, but according to the personal opinion of the author, we did not succeed. On the one hand, such a characteristic of a car is a big "plus", since this car, in all its marketing philosophy, clearly marks those potential buyers who do not really want to stand out from the stream, preferring to systematically achieve certain goals.

Salon

The interior of the Daewoo Gentra almost completely repeats what we saw in the Chevrolet Lacetti. The salon is five-seater and very spacious, but their eyes were not at all happy when the door of this car first opened in front of them. Not really sure what it is, but the material of this gray seat upholstery was very similar to velor. Many, perhaps, like this fabric, but the author could not help but wonder why in such a practical machine such impractical materials. Here, unlike most competitors, there are all the elements of driving comfort: headrests, armrests, and other little things. And the build quality of the cabin is excellent: no visible problems with fasteners and no obvious gaps between parts. And yet, this soft fabric is present in everything: even the door linings are soft (this is a reference to the beginning of the 2000s, since when Lacetti was designed, this was still practiced with might and main).

There are other questions about the quality of materials and too obviously budget designs: the control lever for the exterior mirrors is flimsy, the gear lever is made in the old fashioned way - with a ring that needs to be pulled to insert the "rear" one (such a safety net to which you will have to get used to it again) , and the steering wheel is unpleasant to the touch and, too, in conditions of tough operation, it seems, may not last long. Although, in general, the plastic used here can claim to be "soft", and all of the above is not critical.

Otherwise, there was nothing to complain about in the car. The dashboard is simple and straightforward, with a greenish backlight. On the center console there is an audio system for CD / Mp3, with an AUX connector, but without a screen. Below is an air conditioner and a stove, which are controlled by standard twists. Even lower, already on the central tunnel, there are cup holders, a niche for storing all sorts of small things, seat heating buttons. And on the left, right under the headlight range control, is an opening drawer for knobs and bolts and the rest of the rubbish.

The driver's seat is equipped with mechanical height adjustments and lumbar support adjustment, however, it is practically flat - without side rests, and it is also very soft, but not so that it was completely uncomfortable. By adjusting the steering wheel, everyone will be able to find a completely acceptable position for themselves and, probably, will still be satisfied with how they fit into the chair.

Opinion

The personal feelings of the author may not coincide with the opinion of the majority, but the overall impression of the interior of the Daewoo Gentra is simply terrible.

On the second row, according to the passport, three people will fit at once. Although by sight - they will not be so comfortable there. There is plenty of space for two, especially since the armrest with cup holders extending from the back is a convenience. The backrest itself folds down to access the relatively small trunk, the volume of which is 405 liters. At the same time, you can get into the cargo compartment in a more traditional way by opening the trunk lid. But the button for this is in an interesting place - it was located on the upholstery of the driver's door, right above the music column.

Undercarriage

What needs to be said, first of all, about the technical features of the Daewoo Gentra, is that this car is very soft, easily copes with both small potholes and large pits, while holding the road at a fairly high level. The chassis here is exactly the same as that of the Lacetti: an independent MacPherson strut suspension with a stabilizer is placed in front, and a multi-link at the rear, which provides a decent shock absorber capacity and excellent handling even when cornering at high speed.

A large share of merit in this and the power steering, which has a completely sane feedback, with high accuracy. Although a hint of some unnaturalness is still present - this is expressed in lightness, which, however, likely Daewoo Gentra buyers will like it. You will also definitely like the brakes - on both axles and in front, and at the rear, they are disc, and the tuned is simply gorgeous.

Engine and transmission

The most interesting thing that the Uzbek designers present and what is called the "highlight" of this car is a new chain motor. The Lacetti was equipped with old 1.4 and 1.6 liter units. Daewoo Gentra has one engine, it is outrageously simple: cast iron, two camshafts, DOHC timing, 16-valve, volume 1.5 liters, power - 107 hp. at 5800 rpm, torque - 141 Nm at 3800 rpm. Quite good performance, given its atmospheric nature. At the same time, it fully complies with the Euro-5 environmental standard. In fact, it is a close relative of the Chevrolet Cobalt engine, they are even produced at the same plant. However, you cannot call it a copy, since they have different grip and many other components. At the same time, Daewoo Gentra is slightly more interesting in terms of performance, but the presence of the chain speaks for itself that the motor will not cause any particular difficulties during operation.

As you already understood, we got the Daewoo Gentra for a test drive with a manual 5-speed gearbox, although there is a second, no less interesting option in the arsenal - an automatic 6-speed transmission (from the Chevrolet Cobalt). The aforementioned "ring" of turning on the reverse during skiing on Mineralnye Vody, implying U-turns in parking lots, more than once led the author into a stupor. Still, it is not a very convenient device, despite the fact that the transmission is switched on with it completely safely.

Even taking into account the rather modern ideas used in the development of the engine, you cannot call it economical: with manual transmission, the average "appetite" is about 8, 46 l / 100 km; The automatic transmission in the combined cycle consumes 9.46 liters. The volume of the gas tank is 60 liters, which means that Daewoo Gentra can drive up to 1000 km on the highway without refueling.

Opinion

Without the "automatic" on this car, it is quite possible to enjoy driving, although its presence is likely to give the dynamics of the car a completely different characteristic.

The car accelerates quite briskly, but noticeable acceleration starts at only 2000 rpm. According to the passport, it takes 11.9 seconds to start from 0 to 100 Gentra. This is not a very good indicator, but there is enough traction, both in the city and on the highway. Given the presence of a chain in the motor, you can expect it to make a lot of noise. But mostly in the cabin one could hear the hissing and grinding on the asphalt of the wheels on which winter studded tires were “shod” in the car dealership. This speaks of low noise insulation, and, to be precise, specifically the rear arches.

Prices and configuration

The new sedan is now offered in Mineralnye Vody in four trim levels and, accordingly, in eight variants (with each set of filling, you can choose between "mechanics" and "automatic"). The cheapest basic version will cost 399,000 rubles. There are fog lights, which are now combined with daytime running lights, air conditioning, front airbags, an immobilizer, power windows for all four doors, all elements in body color, and soft plastic on the dashboard and doors. That is, Daewoo Gentra immediately has everything you need and is a full-fledged car.

We got the car in the third configuration - Optimum Pius, which, of course, is richer. There is an ABS system, a radio tape recorder and heated seats. And this kit is estimated at 423,000 rubles. The most expensive equipment costs 542,000 rubles. For more information, see the tables below:

Competitors

If we are an absolute pragmatist and carefully calculate everything, then buying a Daewoo Gentra for less money, we get more than buying a Chevrolet Lacetti, but with an equal level of reliability and service support.

This model has gone beyond the ultra-budget zone and the success of the Uzbek sedan on the market will be based on this, since cars with the same price tag often simply do not fall into the C-class in size. Of those who are closest - Chevrolet Cobalt, Hyundai Solaris, KIA Rio, Volkswagen Polo sedan, and even more expensive Chinese Chery M11 and.

Accordingly, this model is the most direct competitor to the Russian product - and. Yes, and with, although they belong to a different segment, they can easily lose customers who, before going to the AvtoVAZ dealer, will go to the UZ-Daewoo car dealership. Moreover, the Uzbek manufacturer offers a frankly higher quality.

Outcome

Daewoo Gentra is, perhaps, the very car that has all the trump cards to conquer the Russian market and become one of the most common cars on domestic roads. But here it is worth opening your eyes - the main buyer of this model will be taxi drivers and those other pragmatists who will still exploit it in commercial industries. This car cannot fall in love with itself, like the same Hyundai Solaris. But people will choose Gentra not for the beautiful "eyelashes" of the running lights or for their generally impudent, aggressive appearance. This requires a cold calculation of the price / quality ratio, taking into account the tasks that the future owner of this car sets before the purchased vehicle.

And yet, Daewoo Gentra may well become a family car, since this high title is won only by those cars that serve faithfully for many years, without forcing them to constantly add oil. The loan will be paid back faster than the first light bulb in the headlight burns out. Thus, the Gentra is designed for people who need a car for driving, not for fun. If your author was a complete pragmatist, I would definitely buy myself such a car. But the soul of a journalist demands something more unusual.

the site would like to thank the employees of the AutoDom auto complex in Mineralnye Vody for the car provided for the test drive and the help in writing this article.

If you do not agree with the opinion of our experts, you can independently take a test drive of the Gentra in one of the sites and express your opinion in the comments.
