Should I buy an old foreign car? Which is better: an old foreign car or a new VAZ? Should you buy an old car?

18.05.2020

And are you constantly afraid for him, even having bought a CASCO policy? A fresher car is now costing you more than your last one old car? Maybe it's time to buy again old car, which is really more profitable to own in certain cases?

We all strive to have fresher and more cool car... True, this does not always work out, since everything depends on our budget. Nevertheless, most of us, even with small incomes, try to change our own for a more recent one, if possible.

And even if new car will be much more expensive to operate. But sometimes it doesn't make sense. Especially if your old car is still in more or less normal technical condition... For example, do you know how much more profitable it is to have an old car today than a new or fresher one? You will be surprised, but it turns out there are many reasons why owning an old car is more profitable.

1) you worry less about the old car

The older the car, the less we tend to worry about it. As a result, we get more driving satisfaction because once again we are not nervous about our car, as is usually the case with a new or fresh car, for which you usually need to pay a lot of money.

Having bought a cheap car, we will most likely spend a small amount and in case of damage to an old car we will not be very upset. Accordingly, we will worry less. Believe me, having bought an old car, you will even stop worrying about curbs, posts, stones on the road, about reagents, etc. This makes the process of driving an unforgettable experience.

2) You will park your car in the parking lot where you have to

Do you like public parking near shopping centers, hypermarkets or near your home? If you are the owner of a new or old car, then the parking process is probably annoying, as you have to constantly search a good place for parking.

After all, if there are places, every owner tries not to park the car anywhere in order to avoid damage to it. That is why we try to park cars where there are fewer cars around.

With an old car, you will not have problems with parking. You can throw your car anywhere without fear of damage. For example, right at the entrance to the shopping center, where parking is usually very tight. And if someone scratches your car a little when you open the door, you are likely to be less upset than if it happened with a new expensive car.

3) Buying a cheap old car will save you money on something else

If you are limited in money and your salary is poor, of course, on credit. After all, by buying a car on credit, you are selling your future. Don't forget this.

And if you don't expect your income to increase in the near future, loan payments can hit your household budget hard. Remember that the monthly payment, as a rule, does not change for the entire term of the loan. Unfortunately, in the same period, prices in stores may change dramatically due to inflation. In this case, you may simply not have enough money for your daily needs.

Therefore, in this case, buying an old car is more rational, since then you will have extra money that you can spend on something else.

4) Old cars practically do not depreciate

We all know that a car is not an investment and that over time, all cars lose market value... That is, they are depreciated. New cars depreciate especially quickly. So buying a new car is a money pit in which you bury your hard-earned money.

Having bought an old car that has already depreciated, you are unlikely to lose money by selling it in the future. Most likely, in the future, you will sell your old car for about the same money.

5) you can practice repairing your car

Of course, an old car is a great opportunity to learn self-repair car. After all, it is the old car that is more than ever suitable for the role of a guinea pig. Moreover, due to the wear and tear of many components of an old car, you will be able to learn how to maintain and repair many important systems and components of the car that will bother you from time to time due to their natural wear and tear.

Unfortunately, newer and more recent cars have become very high tech, making the process of repairing them very difficult. As a rule, special training is required to service new cars. With an old car, you can learn a lot on your own.

And you can even learn how to fix engine problems that are very simple in old cars compared to modern ones.

6) You will save on maintenance and repairs

Having bought an old car in more or less normal condition, you can also save a lot of money by buying spare parts for analysis. Also, you can, without fear, not acquire original spare parts... On a new car, you are unlikely to want to put non-original spare parts.

You will be surprised at how cheap many old cars are, and shock at how expensive many of the components are on new cars. Including, as we have already said, most of the old cars are very simple in design and the cost of their repair in garages will be significantly less compared to new cars, which need more standard hours for repair and maintenance.

7) You will save on fuel

Yes, we know that many older cars are not as fuel efficient as their modern counterparts. Unfortunately, more modern cars tend to require refueling with expensive premium fuel.

I decided to speak out on this matter, because many of my readers and viewers ask me about it. The question is really not unambiguous and it is conceived before a person who changes a used, usually an old car (which is "ushatan" and sold) and now there is a HUGE choice - what to take a used (but a foreign car) or a new (but our domestic, as a rule) VAZ ? We need to approach from several points of view, we will all consider them today, there will be a video and a vote below, so we read and watch ...

To begin with, recently the situation with the Russian car industry is slowly but surely changing, and in my opinion, for the better. It started with BU Andersen, when he began to raise the quality of the brand. Moreover, no one even thought about abandoning the old models, I'm now talking about PRIORA, KALINA, GRANTA, LADA 4X4, they just decided to tighten them up a bit, which I think was “almost done”. But also next to these models new "VESTA", "X-RAY", "LARGUS", LADA URBAN were developed.

However, in Russian minds there is a strong stereotype that everything that VAZ produces is bad, and even in the slightest degree a foreign car will not only be better, but MUCH BETTER! BUT is it just in modern realities, after all, we will take a new LADA, but a used foreigner.

About the price bar and age

"FOREIGN GUESTS" now have a whole cart, ranging from DATSUN (as I think "doped" GRANT), ending with top-end BMW, MERCEDES, AUDI. Therefore, we will classify them into two large subspecies, these are inexpensive in maximum configurations up to 1 million rubles and expensive - over this amount (I'm talking about new cars now)

Moreover, we will choose a second-hand version, which means that it should not exceed 500,000, this is really the price of a modern, well-equipped AVTOVAZ.

I also want to talk about the age limit, yet 5 years is the maximum figure, in my opinion, if younger is better, because, say, many Koreans have a 5-year warranty and 150,000 mileage

Inexpensive used foreign car

This is the most practical deal if you have 400 - 500,000 rubles, then you can take an almost new one - LOGAN, SANDERO, SOLARIS, RIO, ALMERA, POLO. Or a little older FOCUS (second generation), MAZDA3, CRUZ, ASTRU, LANSER, COROLLU, etc. (there are really a lot of them).

That is, these are non-ALPHA cars of brands (such as BMW, AUDI, MERSEDES). This is class "B-C", they will not have complicated turbines, diesel engines, robotic boxes gear and other nonsense. Usually these are ordinary "aspirated" with volumes of 1.2 - 1.6 (rarely 1.8 - 2.0),.

AS I BELIEVE - if you take a used foreign car, then it is from this group. It is here, if this is not a "dead barn" (with a range of 250,000 km), you can drive happily ever after

And such cars as, say, LOGAN, SANDERO, DASTER, of the first generations generally run some "crazy" runs, without any serious investments (only "consumables"). Koreans, such as Solaris and RIO, are also very reliable and give any kind of comfort and have the greatest guarantee of all in our country.

If you take larger cars, LANSER, COROLLA, ASTRA, KRUZ, MAZDA3 - take it first-hand, and be sure to watch it test power units, transmissions, twisted runs, "hitting", etc. If you vparyat "killed" car, then you will invest in it your hard-earned money and a lot and EXPENSIVE.

REMEMBER - repair of foreign cars, especially class "C" (and higher) costs two, and maybe three times more than our domestic cars

Of course, at a relatively low price, at 400 - 500,000 rubles, you can find a good copy, with low mileage, winter tires and so on. Moreover, the quality of the interior, design, performance of technical units will really be on top. BUT SUCH CARS ARE FEW! And when buying, you should take a knowledgeable person with you.

You also need to be mentally prepared to invest in repairs. Still, the used option is a roulette wheel.

Expensive used foreign car

My opinion here is unequivocal - TO TAKE THIS, I DO NOT ADVISE YOU. FOR 400 - 500,000 rubles, it will already be a shaggy year (about 6 - 8 years old). These are exactly those ALPHA BRANDS about which I wrote above - AUDI, MERCEDES, BMW, if you take the Japanese KAMRI, ACCORD and so on.

Of course, there is a brand, and comfort, and prestige (albeit an old car, but still). And again, this is not LADA.

However, this option is almost 100% hit on the loot (with the Japanese less often). Of course, you may be lucky and you will take some MEPC which is 8 years old with a range of 30,000 km. BUT this randomness tends to zero.

How it happens in practice. A young guy who passed his license a couple of years ago and learned to drive more or less (and they buy such cars) buys, say, MERS W203 for 400,000 rubles (say, 2006). The mileage, as he was told, is 150,000 kilometers (yeah, for 11 years that!) And he is all so smartly laughing at his neighbors who bought themselves "VESTA", "X-RAY" and other miracle of our technology.

But his joy will not be long, because this car is already 11 years old and in the forehead something will happen to it. And repairs, even not with original spare parts, often go out of hand, the turbine alone will cost from 100,000 rubles, if you take the originals. And here all the comfort and beauty + prestige will fall below the plinth, and there will be such a miracle a guy who is all cool, ride a minibus (pay a loan for this shed and save money for repairs).

And the neighbors who bought new cars, but a lower class, will drive and rejoice.

Pros of buying :

  • Kudos
  • Design
  • Quality
  • Reliability
  • Comfort
  • Equipment

Minuses :

  • Expensive renovation (especially if these are prestigious brands)
  • Turbines, robots and other delights, it is corny that there may not be specialists in your city
  • Large taxes
  • "Eats" a lot of fuel
  • Breaks often
  • Many years

In these points, I have collected both inexpensive and expensive options. Actually it is so

New, but domestic VAZ

I repeat once again - I am not protecting anyone! I myself had a lot of domestic cars of this particular brand, "I drank a lot with them" - BUT IT WAS BEFORE.

Let's think about the current situation with AVTOVAZ (I do not pretend to be a super analyst, this is just my opinion)

Now the controlling stake belongs to the corporation "RENAULT-NISSAN" the government has stopped pumping in billions (70 - 80) every year, do not understand why! Of course there is support, but it is much less.

The new administration dispersed a bunch of "bunglers" and "parasites", not all (many were still whining), but still. They made it clear - if you want to work, make high-quality "components" and we will work with you. The downside was that they began to buy a lot of spare parts abroad, but now the situation is changing in the opposite direction (since the sanctions are helping).

Prices have gone up, but cars have gotten better. Otherwise, if they are "crap-crap", simply no one will buy. We pulled up and modernly equipped the brands we know, KALINA, PRIORA, GRANTS. Now they also have air conditioners (climate controls), heating (and windshield), navigation (with large monitors), and so on. Of course, the interior trim remained from budget materials, but now they do not rattle, do not rattle.

If you take X-PARADISE, LARGUS - then these are generally really VERY reliable cars. They are based on the "B0" platform on which the same SANDERO, LOGAN, DASTER, TERRANO are built. THIS IS A VERY STRONG AND SIMPLE PLATFORM. I wanted to for a long time and without any obvious jambs.

VESTA is our development brought to mind. In reality, it can compete with such cars as SOLARIS, RIO, POLO, ALMERA, AVEO, etc. in its class it is not very bad.

Again, their own developments appear, this is a robot, a 1.8-liter engine. If there are no critical problems with the engine, then about the robot ... (there will be a separate article).

Well and again new car, no one drove it in front of you! The warranty is 3 years (or 100,000 km), now it really works. YES, and people have now become different, they know their rights more, and just go to court! In general, the "picture" is changing, take now VAZ - it is POSSIBLE! Especially if this is a new generation of cars.

Again, 80% of all our "people's tuners" tune our cars, from "classics" to PRIORA. It seems to me that only our cars can be pumped so expensively.

Well and spare parts, they are everywhere and everywhere. You can find anything, and the prices are affordable. I remember seeing the guy's face when he found out how much it costs DSG repair, Said that for this money you can buy PRIORA and not steamed!

Positive aspects of the new AVTOVAZ :

  • Cheap renovation
  • They are becoming more reliable now
  • Nobody drove before you, didn't kill
  • GUARANTEE
  • Acceptable price
  • PACKAGING, there is everything in modern cars
  • State support, soft loans and programs
  • Easy repair
  • Just for inexpensive tuning

Negative points :

  • it budget cars(not even class "C")
  • The quality of the interior trim and plastic (although in X-RAY and VESTA it is already more or less)
  • Not prestigious (this stereotype still lives in us)
  • Break down. It also happens (especially cars of the first generations)
  • Stand at the level of foreign cars. YES now the price tag is growing

All in all, this is a very practical purchase. If you need a car to travel (for work, in a taxi, to summer cottages, with children - there is a seven-seater LARGUS) then this is your choice. These cars are not for show-off, they are "hard workers".

An old foreign car or a relatively “fresh” domestic car? This already "hackneyed" question is constantly "raised" on countless automotive forums and other resources of the worldwide network, it is a popular topic of conversation among ordinary car enthusiasts and especially worries people who have relatively little money to buy a car. As a rule, the average person who asks himself such a question has no more than two hundred thousand rubles at his disposal. And such, in our country, unfortunately, is an order of magnitude more than those who choose new cars in car dealerships.

Often, a person who has limited number funds to buy a car and asking advice if he should buy an old foreign car is faced with complete misunderstanding, and “advisers” who recommend buying a domestic car, arguing this with “astronomical prices” for spare parts and their inaccessibility for old foreign cars, the age of the car, difficulties with repair as well as the numerous stories of their friends / relatives / acquaintances who have suffered with the old car, and vice versa, the cheapness of spare parts, the simplicity of the design and the highest maintainability of domestic cars. Let's try to figure out what kind of car you can buy when there are no more than 200 thousand rubles in your pocket, and also consider the main “myths” regarding old foreign cars. And let us consider this on the example of the legendary German cars of the early 90s - Volkswagen Passat B3 \ B4 and Audi-80 (or as it is also called in the “people” - Audi “Bochka”), which still roam in huge quantities Russian roads in the western part of the country, and the prices of which for automotive market now start at only 60-70 thousand rubles. It is worth noting that for residents of the Eastern part of Russia, such a question is not even raised - the market for cheap cars for little money there is completely "monopolized" by old Japanese cars.

Let's compare the above-mentioned old "Germans" and any of the domestic cars aged 5-10 years. First of all, it is worth noting that any modern domestic cars (except, perhaps, the new Lada Vesta) are positioned as the cheapest means of transportation, frankly not “shining” with any comfort, and the build quality of which has become, as they say, a parable in all languages, but the prices for which assume the absence of any "claims" to the quality of the car. The owners of domestic cars themselves often call them the contemptuous nickname "TAZ", and the main reason for their use is only the low cost of purchase and operation.

The old "Germans" became at one time one of those cars that brought a special semantic meaning to the word "foreign car" for the Russian people, meaning not only a foreign-made car, but also the highest comfort, reliability, level and quality. These cars are very comfortable - the interior, although quite austere by modern standards, has a huge amount of space and many “options” that will be the envy of many modern middle class cars. So, for the Passat B3 and “Audi-Barrels” there is practically a “standard package” - a power steering, electrically adjustable mirrors, window lifters “in a circle” and an electric sunroof with two positions. The suspension, in spite of its maximum simplicity (MacPherson strut in front, beam at the rear), is incredibly powerful and energy-intensive, making it easy to absorb irregularities even on the most "killed" Russian roads and in this regard, they can even give odds to many foreign cars of the middle class. The engines are very high-torque, have good torque and provide these cars with very good dynamics in terms of their volumes and power. Although the design does not have any frills and is completely "utilitarian", it looks quite good, even at the present time. But how do these cars “feel” when their average age has already exceeded 25 (!) Years. Consider the various aspects of the operation of these machines in comparison with much "younger" VAZs.

Reliability. This indicator is of interest to almost every person who buys a used car. Surely, every motorist at least once heard from someone a story about a person who bought an old foreign car, which constantly broke down and “sucked” a huge amount of money out of it. However, if you carefully examine and analyze such stories, it turns out that we are talking about an old premium foreign car, usually BMW or Mercedes, frank “exotic auto” or just about a car bought for a very low cost. In addition, such stories are often retold using the “broken phone” method. Most of the "ordinary" foreign cars of the 80s and 90s, like Volkswagens, Audi or Japanese Toyota, have absolutely nothing to do with premium foreign cars, which, despite all their reliability, were usually used completely mercilessly. , and their "youth" in Russia fell on the "dashing 90s" and people who did not have the means for their proper maintenance, and who have a very large number of physical parts and a rather complex design and a priori require a large amount of funds for maintenance. But old "premium" cars are a topic for another article.

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at old foreign cars is the state of the body. In most cases, if the car has not been in serious accidents, it will last very well. Foreign cars of the 90s are distinguished by thick, high-quality metal, the highest quality of painting, and “Audi” is completely galvanized. “Volkswagens”, contrary to the opinion widespread among their owners, were not galvanized (only some body parts were galvanized), but were covered with high-quality primers in several layers and painted with extremely high quality. An average VAZ over 5 years old is difficult to find without even small traces of rust on various body elements, and the shortcomings in the body of an average domestic car cannot be compared with old foreign cars, if any, despite the gigantic age difference.

Engines of Volkswagen and Audi are true masterpieces of engine building. As a rule, the vast majority of "Volkswagens" and "Audi-Bochek" currently on the market have 90-horsepower power units with a volume of 1.8 liters, and equipped with a single injection - a central electronic fuel injection system. These engines have a very simple design and a huge resource - with adequate operation and timely maintenance, these engines are quite capable of changing the line of 500 thousand kilometers without major repairs! Therefore, having bought a “German” with an average mileage of 300-400 thousand kilometers for them, you can absolutely not worry about the engine. The suspension on these cars is also "indestructible". Very massive levers and shock absorbers, as well as the highest quality of parts, provide the suspensions of these cars with the ability to retreat before repairs, which are absolutely astronomical by modern standards. So, for example, "Passat" or "Audi-80" with a range of over 300, thousand kilometers, which also has a "native" suspension, is not at all uncommon. And with a fairly high probability, having bought such a car, you will be the first to change shock absorbers or any other suspension elements. And not only the suspension. Note that the suspension of VAZs usually requires repair at the turn of 70-80 thousand kilometers, and replacing shock absorbers 2 times at a 100-thousandth mileage is by no means uncommon.

The greatest "headache" can be delivered by a single injection. In the event of a problem with it, it is quite difficult to find a specialist who will properly repair and adjust it. However, in terms of spare parts, there are no difficulties with it - now you can buy all its elements for reasonable money. For example, a mono spray nozzle will cost about 6 thousand rubles. In addition, it is not difficult to find a well-working single-injection injection on the “disassembly” for an average of 5 thousand rubles and forget about this problem more, or adjust it, albeit not ideal, yourself, since it is not at all difficult to understand its device. For comparison - for any domestic car a set of nozzles will cost a comparable amount - one nozzle costs about 1.5 thousand rubles, but for a “classic” injector you need, as you know, 4 pieces. It is also worth noting that mono injection is not whimsical at all in terms of fuel quality, and because its nozzle has a very large diameter, it is almost impossible to “pollute” it. If the old german car has an engine with a K \ KE-Jetronik fuel injection system, then if possible, you should refrain from buying it if you are not sure about good condition car. Otherwise, there is a risk of facing extremely serious problems and a waste of very significant funds, for which the owner of a car of the maximum budget category is often completely unprepared. K \ KE-Ketronic is a very complex mechanical (!) Fuel injection system and its main enemy is time, which leads to natural wear mechanical parts... In case of serious problems, most likely you will have to figure it out yourself, tk. it is almost impossible to find a specialist who understands at least minimally in such injection systems, especially in small cities, not to mention rural areas. This, perhaps, is the end of the most serious problems that owners of old foreign cars may face. To eliminate the risk of such problems, you should prefer a car with an engine with injection system nutrition. For example, the most the best option old "Passat" - with a 2-liter 8-valve engine 2E, developing 115 Horse power... Such an engine has an extremely reliable injector, which problems (if any) can be eliminated in any garage with the inscription “Auto electrician. Chip tuning. Flushing the nozzles ”, and in addition, this engine optimal in terms of reliability, resource and acceleration dynamics provided, and even has a lower fuel consumption compared to 90-horsepower power units.

In general, it is worth noting that foreign cars of the 1980s - 90s are, without exaggeration, representatives of the "golden age" of the automotive industry. They possess highest reliability, simplicity and thoughtfulness of design and excellent build quality. And it was they who made the reputation of the world's leading carmakers, which they still enjoy. And the "ideology" by which such machines were created was radically different from the modern one. Then in Europe it was not the norm to have an average of 2-3 cars per family and change them every 3 years. On the contrary, buying a car was quite an expensive pleasure, and it was bought, if not for “a lifetime,” then at least for a very long period. Of course, these cars will require repair, but the owner of a 25-year old foreign car will face the same problems as the owner of 5-10 VAZ. Therefore, we will consider one of the most important parameters for the owner of used cars - maintainability and cost of spare parts.

Perhaps the main argument of the owners of domestic cars is their incredible simplicity, maintainability, as well as the availability of spare parts and their extremely low price... However, the simplicity of domestic cars (if you do not take into account the "classics"), in comparison with old foreign cars, is perhaps the most widespread misconception. To begin with, it is worth recalling that the famous Lada-Samaras are constructively a car of the mid-80s, and at the time of their appearance, they could only compete with their foreign peers, for example, the Passat and Audi-80 of the second generation , and even then, to put it mildly, not very successfully (note that these cars are still found on Russian roads, imagine a domestic car of those times, with the exception of a very rare cases, who has survived to this day, is simply impossible). All the other "modern" VAZs are essentially just variations of these cars, differing in bodywork and interior trim. Most of the components and assemblies, as well as their location, on modern VAZs is not much different from the "nine". And most importantly, they are by no means the simplest constructively. So, in order to just normally see many units, it is necessary at least to dismantle the case air filter, and the units themselves are often inconveniently located. For example, it is best to get to a starter or a generator on domestic cars only from below, and to get to them “from above”, you need to bend into “three deaths” and twist the bolts almost “by touch” (at the same time, to unscrew the last bolt of the generator often have to resort to various tricks). In the foreign cars under consideration, the location of all units is thought out to the smallest detail, everything is in sight and the device of the car is intuitively understandable even for a “beginner”, and access to most of the components and assemblies is extremely simple and convenient. It may seem strange, but constructively old, not “premium” foreign cars are much simpler than VAZs. And the notorious "Uncle Vasya" in the garage, who can "sort out the" Nine "with his eyes closed", just as easily and at the same time quickly "cope" with the "Passat" or "Audi-Bochka". And just like the VAZs, these cars can be easily repaired in the "field" conditions, even better. All legends about “on the knee” repair are more true in relation to old foreign cars. In auto services, the prices for the repair of old foreign cars practically do not differ from the "VAZ" ones.

And the most main myth relatively old foreign cars, this is a "huge" cost of spare parts (especially in comparison with domestic cars) and their unavailability. This statement was relevant only for the 90s and the beginning of the “noughties”, when in an average city there were only a few shops with spare parts for domestic cars, and to order spare parts for foreign cars, one had to make incredible efforts and really pay a huge amount of money. But more than 15 years have passed since those times and now a store with the inscription "Spare parts for foreign cars" can be found almost on every corner. Moreover, the modern market of spare parts for foreign cars is oversaturated. Yes, you usually have to order and wait for spare parts, and the average delivery time is 2-3 days. The only problems can be spare parts for frankly "exotic" cars, say some "AlfaRomeo-164". However, as a rule, old foreign cars are prone to sudden breakdowns by an order of magnitude less than domestic cars, and such a period in most cases is not something critical, especially considering that in most cases repairs are planned in advance. There is simply a huge amount of spare parts for old foreign cars, from dozens of different manufacturers, for every taste and wallet. At the same time, the prices for spare parts are more than cheap. Some prices for spare parts can really "bite", especially different "little things" (for example, hood and trunk locks). However, for such a case, there are a lot of auto-dismantling, including the "euro", where cars from Europe are dismantled, which for natural reasons have a much lower degree of wear (in many European countries, old cars can no longer be driven because of the harsh environmental standards, it is also impossible to bring them to Russia, because customs clearance costs colossal money, many times higher than the cost of a car, but they can be delivered and disassembled for parts). If you repair a car only with “originals” and the highest quality analogues, then the cost of spare parts will occupy an “intermediate” position between VAZ spare parts and spare parts for frankly budget modern foreign cars, like Logan or Accent. If you repair a car with Chinese and simply the cheapest spare parts, then the cost will be even less than for many VAZ spare parts. By the way, about spare parts for VAZs. The opinion that they are quite “penny” is not entirely true. "Copecks" are only spare parts for VAZ "Classic" or if we are talking about frankly counterfeit spare parts (which in the stores "Spare parts for VAZ" are called an interesting word "cooperative"). Good original spare parts cost not a penny at all, and it is on them that prices rise in the first place during the economic crisis. In addition, often many owners of domestic cars prefer to pay more in the event of repair and buy high-quality foreign spare parts, so that they no longer remember the problems that have arisen. And there are just a lot of imported spare parts installed on the conveyor on domestic cars. For example, on all domestic cars, starting with the "Eight", injectors and lambda probes produced by the concerns "Bocsh" and "Siemens", and on modern "Kalinas" and "Grants" and almost half of the spare parts of foreign production. Even the timing belts and those of "Gates"!

The main advantage of domestic cars is not even cheapness, but the availability of spare parts. Often to go to the store "Spare parts for VAZ" is closer than to the school or clinic. However, it is worth choosing spare parts especially carefully and preferably only in trusted stores, because the number of counterfeit spare parts on the shelves reaches frightening levels. And the stories about how they managed to buy a genuine spare part only the third time, or a completely redesigned suspension had to be changed six months later, unfortunately, you can hear too often. If you put a high-quality spare part on an old foreign car, then next time it will not be you who will change it.

Consider the average prices for some spare parts for Volkswagen Passat B3 \ B4 and Audi-80 cars, and only for original spare parts and high-quality analogues. Timing belt - 300-500 rubles, power steering and generator belts - 200-250 rubles, temperature sensor - 700-1700 rubles (original), thermostat - 600-1000 rubles, front suspension arm (Lemferder) - 2.5 thousand rubles, ball joint - 400-500 rubles, wheel bearing- 1000 rubles, shock absorbers - 2.5-4 thousand rubles, steering rod (Lemferder \ TRW) - 2-2.5 thousand rubles, external CV joints - 1300-2000 rubles, clutch assembly - 5-6 thousand rubles. If you "get" on overhaul engine, then this procedure, together with the work and the purchase of the highest quality spare parts (for example, original pistons from the Kolbencshmidt company) will cost about 40 thousand rubles. As you can see, the prices are by no means "astronomical" and truly "penny" in comparison with modern cars middle class.

What are the disadvantages of old foreign cars? Their main enemy is time. Regardless of the mileage, many parts are already subject to natural wear and tear (for example, various electrical contacts are often overwritten). However, if such a car managed to survive to ours in good condition, most of the components and assemblies, as a rule, still have a solid "margin of safety", or they have already been replaced. And, of course, a car a quarter century old cannot be completely in perfect condition.

And if among the owners of domestic cars there are legends about the "penny" cost of maintenance and the incredible ease of repair, then old foreign cars are also subject to numerous myths, the main of which is their total "indestructibility" and super-reliability, which allows them to be operated practically without investment. Yes, even 5-10 years ago it was quite real, but now, when most of the "auto legends" of the 90s celebrated their 25th "anniversary" is far from the truth. All cars tend to break down sooner or later, and their parts wear out, and the old "Germans" and "Japanese women" are no exception. But if the majority of modern cars and almost all domestically produced cars begin to require various investments after 5 years of operation, then the old "auto-legends" - at the turn of 20 years. And, perhaps, this is precisely what the legendary reliability consists in. It's hard to imagine anyone modern car, which will also cut the streets 20 years after it left the assembly line.

But one must be aware that any car bought in the lower price segment will one way or another require investments, and finding a car for a low price that would not cause trouble is, to put it mildly, not a trivial task. Replacing some suspension parts, fixing minor faults in the electrical or cooling system - all these problems are quite typical even for "not very used" cars. In order not to face such problems and not know anything in the car, except for the location of the gas tank flap and the washer fluid reservoir and open the hood only to fill it, you need to buy a new car from the salon. But alas, such a desire does not always coincide with financial capabilities.

In general, the options for cars that can be purchased on the secondary market, in a budget of up to 200 thousand rubles, can be conditionally divided into 3 large groups - domestic cars, 5-10 year old budget foreign cars, and foreign cars of the 90s. Finding a “fresh” budget foreign car, like Renault Logan, Nissan Almera or Hyundai Accent in good condition for up to 200 thousand rubles is problematic, and in a budget of less than 150 thousand rubles they are hardly worth considering - you will get the majority There is a huge number of problems, and it will be necessary to repair "all at once".

The prices for domestic cars in the secondary market depend on the model. So, a “nine” in a really good condition can be bought for 70-80 thousand, but for a “Kalina” in a similar condition, you will need to pay at least 150 thousand. In this case, one way or another, they will require certain investments and no one will give a guarantee that having bought, say, “Kalina” in good condition, you will not “come” to repair the suspension in a few months. Yes, the choice of domestic cars in the secondary market is simply gigantic and in a short time you can view many options, finding for the available amount suitable car in good or at least acceptable condition. This car is perfect for a beginner too.

Foreign cars of the 90s, despite their venerable age and the fact that they can often turn out to be older than the owner himself for little money, are a very worthy option, but their choice must be approached more carefully. On the one hand, a huge number of such machines are largely "killed", their age and often incredibly rich "biography" have an effect, on the other hand, a truly astronomical number of such machines was produced, and it is not just a "live" copy to be found that is in excellent condition. by no means a difficult task. Prices for old "Germans" start from 60-80 thousand, but for this money in an acceptable condition, you can find a copy in an acceptable condition. For 120-150 thousand, you can easily find an old German in a truly excellent condition, which is either well preserved, or, more likely, to whom the previous owner gave a “second life”, where all the parts that could break down have already been replaced. For an amount close to 200 thousand rubles, you can buy an old foreign car or more high class in excellent condition, for example Audi-100S4. “Volkswagens” or Audi “Barrels” of those years for such a sum can be bought in almost perfect condition, as close as possible to the original. And an old foreign car, bought for an amount of 120-150 thousand rubles, will make it possible to maximize the dream of most motorists - to get a reliable one that requires only planned Maintenance car for little money. If we ignore the fears that the car is more than 20 years old (it is worth noting that the average car owner often “projects” the breakdowns of a 5-year-old VAZ or a modern budget foreign car into a 20-year-old car, which is fundamentally not true in this case), and thoroughly approach the choice of such a car, then it will not leave anything in your life except pleasant emotions.

Of course, this is a personal matter for everyone, which car to buy, especially if the amount of money available is small enough, and everyone has their own selection criteria. But if you have a desire to buy an old foreign car, then cast aside all doubts, thoroughly approach the choice of a car and you will not regret it. For the price of a "killed" "Kalina" or "Priora" you can get very nice car that will not let you down on the way, will not bother you with minor problems. A car in which you will not just drive, but drive comfortably, in a cozy cabin, with a large number of "options" (which many new middle-class cars often cannot boast of), which is easy to maintain, and prices for spare parts and repairs, if the need arises, it will cost in most cases cheaper than repairing a “budget foreign car”. And someday, after many years, you will talk with nostalgia about what kind of old car you had, despite its age, which served you faithfully.

Pavel Rumyantsev

Buying a used car is a big event for many Russian citizens and families. Not everyone can afford a new car, many do not think about buying at all vehicle due to the lack of extra money in the family budget. Therefore, if you need to get a vehicle, many go to secondary market and try to find more or less normal sentences on it. Cars with a great age always cause controversy - is it worth buying them at all? Or is it better to buy less interesting car with fewer years of operation? Today we will talk about which cars from 15 years old can still be bought on the automotive market. We immediately warn you that any, even the most reliable car, for 15 years of travel on the road can become junk without a remaining resource. But there is another side of the issue - you can buy a car with a good level of comfort and excellent equipment for little money.

If the owner took care of the car, kept it in a properly built garage, then the car will be in more or less normal condition in 15 years. Of course, ideal cars of this age simply do not exist, but there are cars with a good remaining resource. It is these cars that are worth looking for on the market when choosing a fairly age-old option. If you think that it is better to buy a 10-year-old VAZ for 3-4 thousand dollars, we hasten to upset you. Statistics show that 20-22% of the total operating time of such a car will be spent on minor and medium repairs. And spare parts for Lada today are not cheaper than for an average hand of foreign cars. So such a purchase is not a smart decision, in whatever condition you find domestic car... It is worth looking out for a better car at this age, a class higher and in an elite configuration.

Volkswagen Passat B5 Plus 2002 - a great choice

Pleasant appearance, excellent bodywork, surprisingly wearable interior, a large line of indestructible engines - this is the set of advantages the Passat will give you, even if it is aged. The average price of the 2002 version will be 250,000 rubles. Special version with four-wheel drive, automatic and 2.8 engine will cost about 300,000 rubles.

When buying such a car, consider the following factors:

  • mileage should not be higher than 250,000 km, otherwise the main units and components of the car will already be worn out, you need to check the mileage at the service for secondary factors and computer diagnostics;
  • the complete set should be chosen the richest, since the price does not depend on the content, and rich cars most often received good service and were not operated as a taxi, for example;
  • it is important to inspect the body for rust, since the presence of rusty elements indicates an accident and artisanal painting in the garage, otherwise rust does not appear even at this age;
  • if the interior is worn out, refuse to buy, the car resists wear very well, therefore, in cars with traces of use, the mileage counter was guaranteed to be twisted.

It is better to choose mechanics from boxes, here they are hardy and durable, they last longer than engines. The power units themselves are quite reliable, there are practically no serious problems with them. Best of all, the 2.0 engine without a turbine with 150 power forces (FSI) shows itself. It is not as powerful, but does not exhibit any operational or maintenance problems.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class 2000 - a legend from the past

C-Class cars are still considered one of the best in the passenger car segment from Germany. They are well cut, well thought out in size and usable volume of space, have good engines... There are no serious problems with a car if you buy a decent vehicle after a good selection. Despite the year of manufacture, these machines are quite adequate, and there are several important reasons for this:

  • the body almost never suffers from rust, except that the machine has been in an accident and has been poorly restored, in which case corrosion cannot be avoided, and it is not worth buying such a car;
  • comfort of movement is simply excellent, this is the best european sedan its time, which demonstrates the colossal resource of all equipment and the huge potential in operation;
  • rear-wheel drive makes the trip somewhat unusual, but technically everything in the car is so well thought out that there are no doubts and inaccuracies in transport management;
  • visually, the car is not inferior to any of its rivals for similar money on the market, the car looks decent and continues to delight with its high segment of the elite class.

On average, you can buy a 2001 C-Class for 300,000 rubles, but there are more expensive versions. Given the lack of a large number of customers for these machines due to the relatively expensive service, it is easy to bargain. Better to buy a typewriter that doesn't have many owners, otherwise it is almost guaranteed to be problematic. It is worth giving preference to a 2-liter unit with 163 horsepower, it is quite hardy.

Toyota RAV4 2001 - a car for life

The Japanese crossover RAV-4 turns out to be an excellent purchase both in the salon and in the automotive market. The 2001 generation does not differ in universal comfort, the car is quite tough and often it is difficult to pass irregularities. But you get real crossover with a good package, in which everything works to this day. This is rare, so you can close your eyes to small nuances.

Advantages Toyota selection The RAV4 are as follows:

  • the body is beautiful, there are practically no problems in operation, rust occurs only on the tailgate and in the area of the wheel arches, and even then closer to the mileage of 250,000 km, there are no problems before that;
  • simple engines, led by a 2-liter unit for 152 horses, do not require significant attention, it is enough to change the oil on time, the gearbox is also unpretentious and simple;
  • endurance even with not the most better conditions operation, the machine easily gets out of difficult off-road situations, does not break down under serious loads on important units;
  • the car is distinguished by reliable peripheral technology, this is the golden age of Toyota, when cars of this brand began to be associated with incredible reliability, comfort and quality in details.

Many representatives of that generation have reached this day. Some of them still look pretty decent, have factory paint on most parts, and require little or no investment. When buying, choose simple technique, it is better to buy a car on the mechanics. The four-wheel drive works without problems, but you must remember to service it. The rest of the problems in operation will not arise up to 300,000 km of run.

Nissan Primera 2002 - comfort and reliability

In the early 2000s, Nissan cars were considered the technological and innovative choice in the transportation market. These cars to this day offer excellent comfort of movement and simply incredible design. The example looks pretty good today, even if there are some oddities in it. If you manage to find a car without huge mileage, you will get the following benefits when buying:

  • very interesting design interior, the instrument panel is located in the center, and after a while it starts to like it, nothing distracts you from the trip and enjoying the car;
  • the materials are very high quality, the transport is just great, you will enjoy the ride in the car, despite its rather advanced age and high mileage;
  • according to the sensations of operation, the car has a huge margin of comfort, the car has everything you need for comfortable movement, as well as climate settings, the suspension is soft and reliable;
  • even after so many years of operation, Primera has retained its premium quality, many owners rate it positively, despite various minor nuances that appear in use.

Do not think that after purchasing the Example, you will not need to travel to the station. The car is reliable, but in detail there are many moments that will have to be closed with the help of a professional master. But these small costs are fully paid off by a comfortable and carefree car ride. One has only to try Primera on the go to understand its benefits. You can find a car for 250-300 thousand rubles.

Honda CR-V 2002 is a great SUV for any conditions

The very popular Honda CR-V model was updated in 2002 and came out in the second generation. The generation turned out to be very successful, and from the very first year there were no childhood illnesses in it. The car is excellent both for the comfort of movement and for the feeling of operation. You don't have to repair and worry about various properties. The Honda benefits are clear to the buyer:

  • this is a real crossover with four-wheel drive and other advantages of off-road technology, the car has a simple design, albeit not the most modern components;
  • the 2.4 engine with 160 horsepower is simply wonderful, until now there are no problems with it, the resource exceeds 300,000 km, but it is better not to buy machines of this age;
  • the interior design is simple, but it has a big plus, you get practical car built from quality materials, the interior may still look new;
  • best-in-class performance, it was Honda that held the lead in global sales at that time and became a bestseller from generation to generation, it was well deserved.

Today, the machine is already of age, so you should be very careful when choosing it. Pay attention to the bodywork as this is the most expensive part of the vehicle. The engine should be given for diagnostics at a service station to find out the real mileage, the main nuances. Without proper verification, you are unlikely to be able to buy good car without technical problems and disadvantages. The price of such a car is from 440,000 rubles.

We offer you to watch a video about the Honda CR-V in this generation:

Summing up

Quality cars can be found even for ages 15 and up. The main aspect is the refusal to purchase domestic vehicles, as well as cars with a mileage of over 250,000 km. Make sure that the vehicle you choose still has sufficient resource and may pleasantly surprise you technical characteristics... Please note that the transport must have a completely adequate body, otherwise, after a few years, you will have to engage in welding work. Check the absence of corrosion on the bottom, sills, arches, make sure the quality of the paintwork.

It is quite natural that at this age the car will not have all the factory paint. Tint on bumpers, fenders, doors is quite normal. But if the car is completely painted, it is better to abandon the idea of buying such a car. You will never know in what alterations the car has been. Also, refusal to purchase can be caused by a huge number of previous owners. Usually such machines spend a lot of time in the hands of one owner. If this is not the case, it is likely that there are problems with the car. What do you think, is it worth buying a car over 15 years old?

”, Let's talk about another dilemma of motorists, which, as a rule, are faced by newcomers who are just planning to buy their first car. An article about which is better: an old foreign car or new vaz?

It would seem that everything is simple - take whatever you like best and be done with it ... But this is only at first glance. In fact, both the one and the other option have their "pros" and "cons", which I will now tell you about. But first, about where the dilemma actually came from and why many cannot decide.

  1. New - there is new, whatever one may say! Even G. Ford once said that a good car is a new car. Therefore, even if it is unsympathetic, the new VAZ will break less than a 15-year-old foreign car.
  2. Guarantee. Buying a domestic car, you get an office. a warranty from the manufacturer, who will eliminate the damage if it occurs during the warranty period. It's nice, after all!
  3. Design. Here, as they say, everyone has their own. Some consider the design of new VAZ models to be flawed and beggarly, others believe that AvtoVAZ has made a serious step forward in this matter when comparing the new VAZs with the old "Classic". In any case, some of the more modern VAZs (Granta, Kalina, Priora) have a completely "European" appearance, which can sometimes be confused with budget Koreans or Chinese. That is, when buying a new VAZ, you are not always the loser in terms of appearance, I think this question is just a matter of time ...
  4. Availability of required options. With each new generation, VAZ cars are more and more modern, they have air conditioning, sometimes even, the interior is made in an acceptable ergonomic style, even if it is made of cheap materials, but still. The most modern domestic specimens can boast of a large number of airbags.
  5. Repair and spare parts price. From my own experience I was convinced that repairing a VAZ is cheaper than repairing a foreign car.

Case of life. Unfortunately, I had a chance to participate in an accident in my foreign car, which I considered inexpensive to repair, in general, drove into my ass VAZ 2115. A nuisance, of course, but as they say, the most important thing is that no one was hurt, except for cars, of course ... As a result, I have: the bumper is slightly cracked, the trunk lid is bent and the feet are scratched. At the VAZ: the front bumper is "in the trash", the front bumper is under replacement, the headlight is broken, the hood lid is bent, the body moves (the driver's doors do not open well) and much more ... After several months I decided to call and ask how the culprit of the accident is doing. how much the repair cost. What I heard amazed me: to restore his VAZ, he paid only $ 350. That is, despite the fact that it cost me $ 200 to repair my minor damage. That is, with such a serious difference in damage, the difference in repair costs for my foreign car and its VAZ is only 150 USD. e. Incredible, I thought, and somewhere in my heart I regretted that I did not have a VAZ. Although, on the other hand, it may be for the best, since no one knows how it would have ended for me and my car if it were not a foreign car, but a VAZ ...

  1. Due to the popularity of "our" cars, there are no problems with the sale of practically new VAZs. There are always more than enough people who want to buy a two-year-old Kalina or Granta, and if the machine is also well-groomed or has even not significant tuning, then there will be more than enough offers to buy your machine.

Disadvantages of new VAZs

  1. Build quality and materials. We all know that if the design of "our" cars can still be somehow put up with, then it is almost impossible to build quality and cheap materials. Many people buy budget Kalina or Grants, after which they invest hundreds of thousands in them in order to "bring to mind" the creation of the domestic auto industry. And you can modify all the nodes, by the way, fans of "Tuning" will appreciate it; starting with the chassis, where you can change everything, ending with the soundproofing of the body, and the finalization of the motor.
  2. Security. Despite progress in design and safety, VAZs still cannot compete with foreign cars, even in years. Numerous crash tests with the participation of VAZs either failed or barely reach the "3 stars".
  3. Weak bodies. Moreover, they are weak both in terms of the effect of physical force (for example, upon impact in an accident), and in terms of resistance to corrosion. The owners of "AUDI" and "Volkswagen" know firsthand what a strong galvanized body is that is not afraid of corrosion. Even 20-year-old foreign cars with a galvanized body can boast of a complete absence of any damage and rust, while the basins can begin to rot after 5 years of operation.
  4. Comfort. As I already said, comfort and VAZ are still incompatible concepts, the manufacturer pursues more "budget", which runs counter to the concept of "comfort". For comparison, you can take two cars for a test - any of lineup VAZ and, for example, the old "German". Drive each of the cars for a day or two, after which you will evaluate in which of them you were more comfortable, and from the ride in which you were more tired. I think the answer will be obvious ...

Let's summarize

Unambiguously answer the question: "Which is better: an old foreign car or a new VAZ?" it is impossible, for each product - its own buyer. There are those for whom the brand or model plays a big role, even despite the age of the car and its condition. People are ready to pay a lot of money just for the fact that it is "HONDA" or "Mercedes", they have their own arguments for this and, as you already know, are quite weighty. Of course, old foreign cars also have advantages, but when buying such cars, you should also take into account the disadvantages. Buying a car with high mileage, it should be borne in mind that after the purchase you will have to constantly spend money on the repair of certain malfunctions due to high mileage.

If you prefer domestic, you can also be understood, since such an investment has its own positive sides... However, when buying a VAZ, do not expect the impossible from it, be prepared for average quality, average comfort and some safety. However, at the same time, you get a new car that will not break down, well, at least 3-5 years, and if it does, the repair will be much cheaper than a similar repair of a foreign car.

Didn't seem to have missed anything !? I believe that the above will be enough to understand which is better - a VAZ or an old foreign car. I have everything, thank you for your attention and see you soon. If you have anything to add to the above - do not hesitate, add and comment, I will be glad to hear your opinion on this matter. Bye.
