Initially, six versions of the 4-door sedan were presented with different gasoline engines: in-line four-cylinder - 1.6-liter 101-horsepower (ADP), 1.8-liter with five valves per cylinder (125 hp - ADR) and turbocharged (150 HP - AEB); six-cylinder V-shaped - 2.6-liter V6 (ABC - 174 hp) and 2.8-liter (AAH - 174 hp). All these engines, except for the "weakest" 1.6-liter, were installed on the all-wheel drive version of the Quattro, the production of which was launched without any pause in the same 1994 year. In addition to such powerful and high-spirited "Otto-motors", the A4 became famous for its no less high-spirited inline 1.9-liter turbo diesel TDI families with direct injection, first with 90-horsepower (1Z / AHU), and a year later with 110-horsepower (AFN) with variable geometry turbocharger. The latter, by the way, was the most economical in its class - fuel consumption in the urban cycle per 100 km of run is only 6.9 liters! The traction characteristics of all engines used are impressive. On petrol models, it is possible to install a Tiptronic automatic transmission, which allows you to change gears in manual mode, thus active drivers can fully realize their driving skills.

The galvanized body of the Audi A4 is not afraid of corrosion, in any case, the company gives it a ten-year warranty. In September 1995, power windows for the front doors were included as standard, but sunroofs were still only available on request. Two months later, in November, the premiere of the Avant station wagon took place with the same range of engines as the sedan, with the exception of the weakest 1.6-liter petrol one. The trunk volume of the station wagon varies from 390 to 1250 liters, which, although not much, is quite acceptable for station wagons for outdoor activities, in the market niche of which Avant is one of the most popular.

The basic configuration of the car includes: anti-lock braking system with engine traction stabilization system, two airbags, power steering, cruise control system, climate control system, central door locking, alloy wheels, radio with CD changer, power windows, external heated, electric mirrors, dust and pollen filter and other necessary equipment.

After the new 2.8-liter 30-valve V6 with 193 hp appeared in April 1996. (ACK), the base models were 37, including the Quattro all-wheel drive models, renowned for their excellent grip and stability on slippery roads, although the front-wheel drive versions are almost as good as they are, far ahead of many competing all-wheel drive models.

The S4 sports all-wheel drive model with a 2.7-liter twin-turbo engine, five valves per cylinder and four camshafts, this engine develops a maximum power of 265 hp. at 5800 rpm. The high torque of 400 Nm remains constant over a wide range of 1850 - 4600 rpm. The S4, just like the "charged" station wagon S4 Avant that appeared a year later, is equipped exclusively with all-wheel drive. The sedan accelerates to hundreds in 5.6 seconds, the Avant in 5.7 seconds. Essentially, the "S4" is a factory-tuned product. The sporty interior has a full range of equipment up to climate control.

The suspension of these cars is distinguished by a sporty setting: in front and behind there are wishbones (rear - double), as well as anti-roll bars. The Audi S4 Avant is in high demand, and there are not so many competitors.

The success of the A4 in the International Super Tour in 1996, 7 victories out of 7 possible in the European, South African and Australian championships are proof of the high quality of the car and its sporty character. In autumn 1999, the premiere of the Audi RS4 took place, which immediately won the title of the most powerful serial station wagon in the world. At the beginning of 2000, two new power units appeared: a turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp. and a 1.9-liter high-torque diesel with 115 hp. with high-pressure unit-injectors, replacing the previous 110-horsepower diesel. As a result, the total number of motors from 90 to 193 hp. reached 9, which in combination with various transmissions and chassis made it possible to obtain a very wide range of models for every taste.

In autumn 2000, the premiere of a new generation of A4 models took place. From the very first glance at the new Audi A4, a high level of comfort and quality is evident, meeting the requirements of a luxury car. This impression is confirmed by the power of the engines, the unique ride quality, the automatic air conditioning system, as well as the high level of safety and increased strength of the body. The A4 has already earned worldwide recognition: 2001 brought this car six honorable international awards, including the Goldenes Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel), and the readers of Auto Motor und Sport magazine (Germany) recognized the Audi A4 as the best mid-range car of 2002.

The appearance of the second generation Audi A4 is in many ways reminiscent of the larger A6 and even the flagship of the company's lineup - the Audi A8. Unlike the first generation model, the new car is 69 mm longer, 33 mm wider and 13 mm taller. The first to appear were cars with a sedan body, which has a fairly low coefficient of aerodynamic drag Cx, in the new model it is only 0.28.

If you look at the A4 sedan from the outside, you can assume that its trunk is quite small. In fact, this is a "visual trick" of the designers trying to make the car lean. In reality, the size of the trunk corresponds to the class of the car. The car body is very durable - this is one of the "Audi" skates. Thanks to galvanizing, it resists salty winters.

The basic configuration, as such, did not exist. In Europe, when a person ordered a new "A4", after choosing an engine and body type, at his own discretion, he filled the car with a variety of equipment. It was not for nothing that dealers called these cars "a constructor for the buyer."

Salon "A4" can be decorated in one of three corporate styles. Execution "Advance" implies finishing with materials and leather "natural" colors, as well as walnut inserts. Ambition infuses the interior with a sporty spirit - the upholstery patterns are more energetic, and the leather used in the trim is characterized by light artificial tones that match well with the aluminum inserts. The modified vehicle will be powered by a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, including 1.8-liter turbocharged engines; 2.0 and 3.0 liters with a capacity of 150, 130 and 220 hp. respectively, and 1.9 TDI turbodiesels with a capacity of 131 hp. and 2.5 TDI with 180 hp.

Modifications with engines of 1.8; In addition to the usual front-wheel drive, 2.5 and 3.0 liters will be equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission, and a Multitronic gearbox is installed on 2.0 and 3.0 liter models.

The temperament and unique qualities of this car are evident at first glance. Its dynamic, flat bonnet, sophisticated wedge shape and powerful rear end with prominent tailpipes clearly express its sporty character.

These are all hallmarks of Audi design. These, combined with the power of the engines delivering up to 220 hp, define the A4 Cabriolet's character, taking driving pleasure to a whole new level.

In addition, the Audi A4 Cabriolet engine is mated to a multitronic gearbox. It combines the excellent dynamic performance of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic.

The range of engines is quite extensive. Everyone can find a motor to their liking. The most economical 1.6-liter engine is suitable for phlegmatic drivers. This is followed by a 1.8-liter engine with 125 hp. It has a central injection and quite easily accelerates a weighty car. The engine is the same size, but with a turbocharger, it has a solid power reserve of 150 hp. Thanks to the low-pressure turbine, it pulls powerfully at low speeds. The 2.8-liter V6 engine with 193 hp gives the car a truly sporty temperament. The 2.6 l / 150 hp petrol engines complete the picture. and 2.4 l / 165 hp.

The turbodiesel range consists of two engines. Both feature direct fuel injection, air-to-air intercooler and variable turbine geometries for greater low-end performance. Such an advanced design ensures quietness and temperament at the level of a gasoline engine. The four-cylinder 1.9-liter TDI engine with 110 hp. It has a very moderate fuel consumption - its average value is 5.6 l / 100 km. A more powerful version of the V6 2.5-liter with 150 hp. This motor is very harmonious with the station wagon body, since it is absolutely insensitive to the maximum load of the car.

In 2004, at the Paris Auto Show, Audi presented the updated A4 generation. It features a redesigned body, upgraded suspension and four new engines. As before, buyers are offered the A4 sedan and A4 Avant station wagon. The body design is made in the new corporate style of the brand. The completely redesigned front end is complemented by the Audi-specific single trapezoidal radiator grille. The headlamps have a slight bend in the bottom line. A new bumper, a slightly different tailgate solution and new original two-piece lights have appeared at the rear. The sporty yet comfortable dynamic suspension makes driving the Audi A4 a real pleasure.

State-of-the-art technical solutions, impressive styling and the highest quality of interior trim, traditional for Audi, will satisfy even the most discerning customer. Plus two new petrol engines: a 3.2-liter V6 FSI with direct fuel injection, which produces 255 horsepower, as well as a two-liter turbo engine with direct fuel injection, already known from the Audi A3 and VW Golf V models, with a capacity of 200 horsepower. From zero to one hundred kilometers per hour, both modifications accelerate in 7.3 seconds, and their maximum speed is 250 and 241 kilometers per hour, respectively.

For the Russian market, instead of engines with FSI, a powerful 3.0 liter "six" is offered, developing 218 hp. In addition, there are three TDI R4 turbo diesel engines of 2.0 liters (140 hp) and two V6s of 2.5 liters (163 hp) and 3.0 liters (204 hp quattro). In Europe, the base is the 1.9-liter TDI (116 hp). Audi A4 with a two-liter turbodiesel will be able to accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 9.7 seconds, and with a three-liter in 7.2 seconds.

The gearboxes are 5 or 6-speed manual gearboxes or a multitronic variator (front-wheel drive), and the quattro has a 6-speed tiptronic automatic. The legendary quattro permanent all-wheel drive ensures maximum traction, and the ESP II generation stability control system even in difficult road conditions, it guarantees a unique level of safety. The premiere of the next generation Audi A4 Cabriolet 2006 model year took place in Frankfurt. The main design change compared to the previous version is immediately apparent: this is a monolithic trapezoidal radiator grille, which first appeared on the Nuvolari concept. Dimensions: length - 4,573 mm, height - 1,391 mm, wheelbase - 2,650 mm.

The rear lights and bumper are also redesigned, which houses the diffuser, adding a touch of sportiness. The modern interior is quite consistent with the progressive style of the car's exterior. In 2007, a new generation of the A4 sedan enters the market. The continuity of generations, fully inherent in all models from Audi, is evident. The car has retained all the recognizable features of its predecessor, but at the same time has improved in all respects. The salon has become more spacious, the appearance is more expressive, and the equipment is richer. In a word, the car has become more solid and luxurious. It is noteworthy that it is the A4 family sedan that has been the best-selling Audi model for many years.

There are many changes in the car. The look has become much faster. The car received headlights in the style of a coupe A5, a bumper with aggressive air intakes, stamping, cutting through the sidewalls of the body. The Audi A4 sedan is 11 cm longer and 6 cm wider. The wheelbase has increased by 158, which has a beneficial effect on interior space and trunk volume. The sedan has 480 liters of useful space in the luggage compartment, the station wagon has 490 liters when the seats are in normal condition and 1430 liters if the rear seats are folded. In addition to its huge dimensions, the A4 Avant trunk has a fixing net, a 12-volt outlet and a double-sided lid, which is covered with soft nap on one side and plastic on the other. Audi A4 2007 model year received five types of engines. Two of them are gasoline: one with a turbocharger, a volume of 1.8 liters and a capacity of 160 liters. sec., the second - a 3.2-liter V6, developing 265 hp. Thanks to cutting-edge engine technology, Audi vehicles are powerful and efficient. All types of gasoline engines are equipped with FSI technology, which allows to increase the torque and power of gasoline engines, as well as reduce fuel consumption (up to 15%) and reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases. Unlike intake manifold injection technology, FSI engines inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber. This reduces internal heat loss as well as increases power and fuel consumption.

The most modest diesel version offers a 2.0 TDI engine with 143 hp. Also, the car can be equipped with 2.7 TDI turbodiesels with a capacity of 190 hp. and 3.0 TDI with 240 hp. TDI engines use modern common rain technology. The latest generation Common Rail system has a high-pressure fuel pump and one rail per cylinder bank. It has a maximum injection pressure of 1600 bar, which is 250 bar more than the previous generation Common Rail system. During injection, an electrical voltage is applied to the ceramic element of the piezo injector, which changes its crystal structure.

The Audi A4 is available with both front-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive. The range of transmissions consists of a six-speed manual gearbox, a continuously variable variator Multitronic, and a six-speed automatic transmission. The quattro A4 all-wheel drive transmission can be equipped independently of the engine. The all-wheel drive design has not fundamentally changed, but has undergone reconfiguration: it has become "a little" rear-wheel drive. When driving on a straight dry road, 60% of the torque is transferred to the rear axle.

Thanks to the use of modern grades of steel, the car body has become 10% lighter, while, according to the creators, the body has become more durable, the body must withstand collisions with an obstacle at speeds up to 15 km / h without any consequences at all.

The developers also took care of the safety of passengers and the driver. For these purposes, there are six airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, standard parking sensors, ABS and ESP electronic stabilization system. In 2007, the Audi A4 received the highest Euro NCAP 5-star rating as one of the safest vehicles in its class.

The basic configuration of the car includes an on-board computer, central locking, electrically adjustable mirrors, electric window lifters, heated seats, and a rain sensor. Optionally, the A4 Avant is available with a blind spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, a sunroof, a panoramic roof, an uphill assist system, a Bang & Olufsen audio system with a 500-watt amplifier, 10 active channels and 14 speakers, and much more.

In March 2011, the 5 millionth Audi A4, the Avant 3.0 TDI quattro in Misano Red, rolled off the assembly line at the Audi Ingolstadt plant.

After four years of production, the third generation has been restyled. The car received upgraded engines and chassis, as well as a slightly modified exterior. The car has grown by several millimeters in length and height. The hood has become more curved. The designers changed the shape of the radiator grill, slightly "cutting" its upper corners. The cross ribs and rings of the Audi emblem are now more prominent. The grille can be painted gray or high-gloss black (on 6-cylinder models and models with the S line package). The headlights have been redesigned with a slightly undulating curve at the lower edges; changes also affected the internal structure of the optics. Xenon plus headlights are available as an option. The LED daytime running lights are designed in a single narrow strip located next to the lenses of the xenon headlights. Adaptive headlights as well as dynamic and static cornering lights are available on request. The shape of the rear lights echoes the shape of the front optics. The interior was refreshed with additional chrome inserts that appeared on the buttons and the steering wheel. The steering wheel itself has become sportier due to the cut-off lower segment, and the navigation system is now controlled by four buttons instead of eight. The interior of the vehicles with the S line sports package is finished in black with updated materials. The package also includes 18 "or optional 19" alloy wheels. Otherwise, everything is the same: easy-to-read devices, a Russified on-board computer and a convenient joystick of the MMI system remained in their place. The trunk retained the same volume - 480 liters (962 liters with the rear seats folded) for the sedan and 490 for the Avant station wagon.

The engine range includes six diesel (TDI) and four petrol (TFSI) engines in 23. All engines are supercharged with direct fuel injection; a start-stop system and a recuperation system are standard on all variants. As a result, the average fuel consumption has been reduced by 11%. The engines can be aggregated with a manual transmission, a S-tronic "robot" with a double clutch and a multitronic continuously variable variator, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In total, 23 combinations of engines and transmissions are available for the Audi A4, 16 variants are available in Russia.

A new 1.8-liter turbocharged petrol engine is available for the Audi A4, which can be ordered in two versions - 120 and 170 hp. The top-end 3.0-liter TFSI petrol engine, which produces 272 hp, stands apart from the others. in the version for Audi A4 and 333 hp in the version for the sporty S4. As for the diesels, the following options are available: a 2.0-liter TDI with 136, 163 and 177 hp, as well as a 3.0-liter engine that produces 204 or 245 hp. depending on the version.

For the Audi A4 family, quattro® all-wheel drive uses a self-locking center differential. In normal driving mode, it distributes the torque mainly to the rear wheels in a ratio of 40% to 60%. If necessary, redistribution occurs in the shortest possible time. Torque Redistribution helps the center differential work by using the brakes and giving the vehicle better handling.

Following the "older" A4 models, they were equipped with modern security systems: now the electronics follow the markings, road signs, the car automatically brakes in front of an obstacle at speeds up to 30 km / h, monitors the driver's reactions and condition depending on driving style. In addition, a blind spot tracking system has appeared.

The presentation of the Audi A4 in the new B9 body took place on June 29, 2015. The world premiere will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. This is the fifth generation of this model.

The appearance of the Audi A4 2016 has noticeably changed, it has become more aggressive. The author of the updated look is the same designer Walter De Silva. The changes affected several elements at once. Already in the base, the car is equipped with xenon headlights, which have LED daytime running lights built into them. The rear lights have received new geometry and a larger surface area. Dimensions and turn signals are clearly visible from the side view and from behind at a great distance. Fog lights, although they remained at the same level, have made room for the placement of sensors for monitoring road markings and thermal imaging equipment.

The car also features a wider Singleframe grille, redesigned bumpers (reminiscent of the sporty R model), re-shaped rearview mirrors and increased use of chrome trim.

The sloping roof, the sharp corner of the windshield in combination with the embossings located on the side parts of the body provide an excellent passage of the incoming air flow. The drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.23 for the sedan and 0.26 for the station wagon, which in turn will reduce fuel consumption.

In terms of its dimensions, the 2016 Audi A4 turned out to be slightly larger than the car of the previous generation. The length of the sedan is 4726 mm (+ 25), the wheelbase is 2820 (+ 12), the width is 1842 (+ 16), and the height remains unchanged (1427). The Audi A4 B9 (2015-2016) is based on the second generation MLB platform, due to which it was possible to reduce the weight (depending on the modification) by 120 kg compared to its predecessor.

The interior has become an order of magnitude more spacious, mainly due to the increase in the size of the wheelbase. There was an additional 23 mm for the legs behind the seats. The driver and passengers can enjoy completely redesigned anatomically shaped seats. Inside the Audi A4 2016, there is a completely different front panel with a free-standing multimedia system screen, a different climate unit, an even row of air ducts like on the Q7 II and a similar compact gearshift lever that swapped places with the MMI control washer. There are a minimum of buttons on the steering wheel. Minimalism, however, is not at the expense of information content. But at the same time, everything is at hand. Any switch can be reached.

The top-end multimedia system is equipped with an 8.3-inch tablet with voice control, Wi-Fi hotspot, LTE, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Rear seat passengers can also order two 10.1-inch tablets and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The trunk of the A4 Avant now holds up to 505 liters of luggage with the rear seats, providing an increase of 15 liters over the old model. When the rear seat is folded down (40:20:40), the volume increases to 1510 liters.

Front and rear, the car received new five-link suspension. For a surcharge, adjustable shock absorbers are offered with two modes of operation: standard and sport. In the first version, the ground clearance is 10 mm lower than on the car in the version with conventional shock absorbers, and in the sports car - by 23 mm.

At the time the model entered the European market, seven power units are available for cars - three gasoline and four diesel ones, as well as the g-tron modification, which runs on synthetic methane.

Gasoline engines for the new Audi A4 are represented by a 1.4-liter "turbo four" with a capacity of 150 hp, as well as two two-liter engines with a recoil of 190 and 252 hp. The latter has a Quattro all-wheel drive and accelerates to a hundred in 5.8 seconds. Among the diesels there are two two-liter four-cylinder TDIs with a capacity of 150 (320 Nm) and 190 (400 Nm) hp, as well as two three-liter "sixes" developing 218 (400 Nm) and 272 (600 Nm) "horses". With the top-end sedan gaining a hundred in 5.3 seconds.

The TFSI and 4-cylinder TDI engines work as standard with a newly developed 6-speed manual transmission, which is 16 kg lighter than the previous one. All engines (except the 3.0 TDI 272 hp) are optionally available with the new 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch, as a replacement for the old CVT Multitronic. In turn, the 3.0 TDI (272 hp) is offered with an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, which also went through a number of changes.

The muzzle has changed quite a lot, it got an even longer hood, on which there are embossed lines that look stylish. Narrow headlights with LED filling and a lens are used, the headlights look aggressive, which pleases. Between the optics is an 8-angle grille with a thin chrome trim. The bumper has embossed lines to emphasize the headlights, and there is also a lip, small fog lights and air intakes.

The profile features slightly flared wheel arches to maintain muscular styling. The arches are connected using a stamping line at the bottom, going from bottom to top. The upper features a straight stamping line designed to maintain premium styling as well.


The rear optics are also LED, they also have an aggressive appearance. The shape of the trunk lid forms a rather big spoiler, which is definitely a plus for aerodynamics. The rear bumper has a groove that looks good and also has a plastic insert on it.

The dimensions of the body of the Audi A4 B8, of course, have changed compared to the previous version:

The interior of the car has been completely redesigned, now it looks much more chic and modern. The driver will get a 3-spoke steering wheel with multimedia controls, upholstered in leather. The seating is good, in front there are excellent leather seats with a little lateral support, heating and electric adjustment, but as an option. The back row sports a sofa for three passengers who can comfortably sit there and enjoy the ride, and there is also an armrest. There is ample space in both the front and back.

The trunk of this model is not bad, its volume is 480 liters, and if you want something more, then you can fold the seats and get already 962 liters.

  1. The base engine is a 4-cylinder TFSI turbo petrol engine with a volume of 1.8 liters. This motor produces 120 horsepower and 230 H * m of torque. It accelerates the sedan to a hundred in 10.5 seconds, and the maximum speed is 208 km / h. At the same time, the consumption is 8 and a half liters in city mode and 6 liters on the highway.
  2. The second engine is distinguished by an increased turbine pressure, which, as a result, made it possible to increase the power to 170 horsepower and to 320 H * m of torque. Acceleration was reduced to 8 seconds, and the maximum speed increased to 230 km / h. Consumption decreased by 1 liter in city mode, and on the highway fell by almost one and a half liters.
  3. The diesel engine Audi A4 B8 TDI is a 2-liter turbo engine that produces 150 horses and 320 units of torque. The dynamics here is, in principle, not bad, 9 seconds to hundreds and 210 km / h maximum speed. This engine pleases with fuel consumption, because you will have less than 6 liters in the city and almost 4 liters on the highway, and diesel fuel itself is cheaper.
  4. There is also the same engine, but with an increased power up to 177 horses and a torque of up to 380 H * m. He will already accelerate the sedan to one hundred kilometers per hour in 8 seconds, and the maximum will allow him to go 222 km / h. His consumption is about the same.
  5. Also in the lineup there is a 2-liter gasoline turbo internal combustion engine, which in its stock has 225 horses and 350 torque. There are good dynamics here, it is 7 seconds to hundreds and 250 km / h of maximum speed. At the same time, the consumption is about the same as that of the first engine, even less along the highway.
  6. Finally, the last and most powerful engine in the lineup is the V6 gasoline turbo. This engine with a volume of 3 liters produces 272 horses and 400 H * m of torque. It accelerates in 5.4 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. Its consumption is, of course, the highest, 11 liters in the city and 6 on the highway.

The gearboxes are offered completely different, there are 6-speed mechanics, variators, as well as a 7-speed S-Tronic robot. The drive of a car can also be different, there are front-wheel drive versions, and there are versions with the quattro all-wheel drive system.

In terms of reliability, all motors have it, and in particular, previous versions have it, so if you want to buy a used old version, you can safely take a car with a mileage of 200,000 kilometers. In terms of speed, even the first generation engines have the characteristics that budget class cars now have, while the first generation used is cheaper than a new budget class car.

The Audi A4 is a line of compact executive cars produced since the end of 1994 by the German automaker Audi, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. This car is the successor, production of which ended in 1996.

The A4 has gone through five generations of modifications and is based on the Volkswagen Group B platform. The automaker's internal numbering views the A4 as a continuation of the Audi 80 line - the initial A4 is designated the B5 series, followed by the B6, B7, B8 and B9. The B8 and B9 series are built on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform shared by many other Audi models.

The A4 body is available as a sedan and station wagon. The second (B6) and third (B7) generation A4 had a convertible body, but then from the fourth generation (B8) it became a separate model called the Audi A5. There is a sports version of the A4 called the Audi S4.

Audi B5 (1994-2001)

First generation Audi A4 ( Typ 8D) debuted in October 1994, production began in November 1994, and European sales began in January 1995. Sales in North America began later in September 1995. The car is built on the Volkswagen Group B5 (PL45) platform, on which the fifth generation Volkswagen Passat is based. Two types of bodies were produced - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon (Avant).

Throughout the seven-year production, minor changes were constantly made to the car. Significant reconstruction was carried out in 1997. Some engines were updated and a 6-speed manual transmission was added. Another facelift was performed in 1999. The changes were mostly cosmetic, but almost all external elements were affected.

The choice of engines is very large. Petrol 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.6 to 1.8 liters with a capacity of 101 to 180 hp, 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 2.4 to 2.8 liters with a capacity of 150 to 381 hp. Diesel 4-cylinder 1.9-liter capacity from 75 to 115 hp, 6-cylinder V-shaped 2.5-liter engine with 150 hp.

There is also a large selection of transmissions - 5 or 6-speed mechanics, 4 or 5-speed automatic. Audi has also announced a new "Tiptronic" automatic transmission. The transmission is a conventional torque converter automatic transmission that offers fully automatic or manual gear selection.

Audi B6 (2000-2006)

Next Audi A4 ( Typ 8E) debuted on October 10, 2000, the basis was now the Volkswagen Group B6 platform (PL46). The new car styling was developed under the direction of German automotive designer Peter Schreier between 1996 and 1998, inspired by the design for the second generation (C5), presented in 1997.

The body was in three versions - a 4-door sedan, a 5-door station wagon and a 2-door convertible. The Avant (station wagon) was introduced in June 2001 and entered European showrooms in September 2001.

The choice of engines for the most fastidious tastes. Gasoline - 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.6 to 2.0 liters with a capacity of 101 to 187 HP, 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 2.4 liters (168 HP) and 3.0 liters (217 HP). Diesel - 1.9 liters (l4, 99-128 hp) and 2.5 liters (V6, 153-178).


There are four transmission options - 5 or 6-speed manual transmission or 5 or 6-speed automatic transmission. Audi introduced a continuously variable transmission developed by LuK called "Multitronic", which replaced the outdated traditional automatic transmission on front-wheel drive models. Audi B7 (2004-2008)

Audi introduced the new generation A4 at the end of 2004 with the internal designation B7 (Typ 8E / 8H). The car is built on the Volkswagen Group B7 (PL46) platform. Despite the new designation, the B7 is a heavily redesigned and updated version of the B6 with revised steering settings, suspension geometry, updated combustion engines, and improved Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The front grille assembly has changed to a high trapezoidal shape in the same way as on the third generation Audi A6 (C6), however the dashboard and interior have remained practically unchanged.

The body was also in three versions - a 4-door sedan, a 5-door station wagon and a 2-door convertible.

A number of engines have received many additions. In 2005, the direct fuel injection (FSI) system was introduced for the 2.0 TFSI and 3.2 V6 FSI petrol engines, along with other improvements, which increased the power to 197 hp. and 252 hp. respectively. These engines use a four valves per cylinder configuration.


The choice of engines is still large. Petrol - 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.6 to 2.0 liters with a capacity of 102 to 220 hp, 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 3.2 liters with a capacity of 252 hp. Diesel - 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.9 to 2.0 liters with a capacity of 115 to 170 hp, 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 2.5 to 3.0 liters with a capacity of 163 to 233 hp.

There are four transmissions to choose from - 5 or 6-speed mechanics, a 6-speed automatic "Tiptronic", as well as a continuously variable transmission "Multitronic" (CVT) with a choice of seven speeds.

Audi B8 (2009-2015)

Audi unveiled the first official photos of the A4 B8 series in August 2007 and the car itself was shown to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007. The car is built on the Volkswagen Group B8 modular longitudinal platform (MLB / MLP), a platform that is also used for the Audi A5 coupe. Cars with a cabriolet-type body began to be called the Audi A5, only two bodies remained to choose from - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon.

The MLP allows for a reduction in front overhang, resulting in a longer wheelbase without increasing overall length. This effectively redistributes the center of gravity slightly to the rear, improving steering and balancing the vehicle's mass between the front and rear axles. Also, the new platform made it possible to increase the space in the passenger compartment and luggage compartment, and the curb weight of the car decreased by 10%.


Gasoline engines have all become with a direct fuel injection system (FSI) - 4-cylinder 1.8 and 2.0 liters with a capacity of 118 to 222 HP, 6-cylinder V-shaped with a volume of 3.0 liters (268 HP) and 3.2 liters (261 hp). Diesel engines are all turbocharged with direct injection - 4-cylinder 2.0-liter capacity from 116 to 168 hp, 6-cylinder V-shaped 2.7 and 3.0 liter capacity 187 and 237 hp.

Audi B9 (2015 - present)

In June 2015, the next generation version of the Audi A4 B9 (Typ 8W) was released - the fifth model for the A4 name and the ninth generation of the Audi 80 / A4 series in general. The official launch took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The car is built on the Volkswagen Group B9 platform (MLB / MLP). The B9 is slightly larger than the previous generation, but weighs 120 kilograms less. There are also two bodies to choose from - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon.

The mid-size premium sedan Audi A4 of the fifth generation (with the internal designation "B9") debuted at the end of June 2015 - on the Internet ... for several months), it went on sale in the main markets (including in Russia).

As a result of "reincarnation" - the Ingolstadt "a-four" remained faithful to the corporate style, but completely renewed its equipment (while adding in size, but throwing off "extra pounds").

The appearance of the "fifth" Audi A4 did not come as a big surprise - the three-volume box retained its recognizable shape, although it was transformed in accordance with the latest trends in the corporate style of the brand from Ingolstadt.

The car looks beautiful and presentable, and considerable credit for this belongs to the front end: a trapezoidal radiator grill, an aggressive bumper and stylish lighting equipment with L-shaped running lights, reminiscent of a lightning bolt (bi-xenon by default, optionally LED or matrix).

Austere, but not devoid of dynamism, the silhouette of the German "four" demonstrates correct and harmonious proportions, the solidity of which is added by the embossed wheel arches that can accommodate disks ranging from 16 to 19 inches.

The rear of the sedan is made in a calm and laconic style, but it is not deprived of modern attributes: LED lights of the original shape and a raised bumper with a pseudo-diffuser.

Depending on the engine, the machine has a single or twin tailpipe at one end, or a pair of pipes spaced apart at the ends.

As a result of the generation change, the dimensions of the Audi A4 have not changed much: 4726 mm in length, 1842 mm in width and 1427 mm in height (the first two indicators, respectively, added 25 mm and 16 mm). The wheelbase of the "German" is 2820 mm, and the amount of ground clearance depends on the suspension: 135 mm in the basic version, with an emphasis on comfort - 10 mm lower, and for sports - 23 mm lower.

The interior of "A4 of the fifth generation" is a combination of avant-garde and classics, and most obviously it concerns sedans with a "virtual cockpit", which is a digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch screen under the usual visor. In simpler versions, it is replaced by a simple panel with analog dials and a small "scoreboard" in the middle. Directly in front of the driver, there is a multifunction steering wheel, the design of which is directly influenced by the level of equipment.

In the very center of the presentable front panel there is a “tablet” of the multimedia complex with a diagonal of 8.3 inches, below which a wide air conditioning control unit with an individual display, a pair of “washers” and several buttons “took up defense”. Modern design is echoed by high-quality finishing materials (expensive leather, real wood and aluminum) and a premium level of workmanship.

For the "fifth A4" there are anatomical chairs with a well-thought-out profile, pronounced support on the sides, a wide range of settings and heating (optionally also with ventilation, and even with electrical adjustment of the lumbar support). The increased dimensions of the body also affected the organization of the rear passenger seats - there was more space on all fronts.

Amenities for a fee include a 10.1-inch multimedia center screen and individual climate settings.

The trunk of the sedan does not shine with capacity, but 480 liters should accommodate without problems.

Specifications. On the Russian market, the 5th generation Audi A4 is offered with a wide range of four-cylinder turbo engines, in tandem to each of which a 7-band S tronic "robot" is allocated.

It allows the German D-sedan to “shoot” from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds and gain 210 km / h “top speed”, consuming an average of 4.9 liters of fuel in combined mode.
  • it is followed in the hierarchy by the 2.0 TFSI ultra engine, equipped with direct fuel injection, a turbocharger and electronic coolant level control technology, which is available in two boost levels. Its returns include:
    • 190 "horses" and 320 Nm of thrust at 1450-4200 rpm,
    • or 249 forces 370 Nm of limiting torque at 1600-4500 rpm.

    In the first case, the fifth Audi A4 spends 7.3 seconds to accelerate to the first hundred, the second, 1.5 seconds less, the maximum speed reaches 240 and 250 km / h, respectively. In the combined driving cycle, the three-volume box consumes an average of 4.8-5.7 liters of fuel per 100 km of run.

  • Available for the "four" in the back of the B9 and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel, which, depending on the modification, generates:
    • 150 "mares" of power and 320 Nm of maximum thrust at 1500-3250 rpm
    • or 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque ranging from 1750 to 3000 rpm.

    With the "junior" unit, the car exchanges 100 km / h after 8.7 seconds and maximum "storms" 219 km / h, with the "senior" these figures are 7.7 seconds and 237 km / h, respectively. The "appetite" of such a sedan varies from 3.7 to 4.1 liters in the combined cycle.

It is not excluded that in the future more efficient diesel engines will be brought to our country - V-shaped "six" with a volume of 3.0 liters, producing from 218 to 272 "horses" of power and from 400 to 600 Nm of potential.

The fifth generation of the Audi A4 is built on a modernized MLB "bogie", which is created on the basis of high-strength steel, "winged" metal and composite materials, which allowed, depending on the installed engine, to save up to 120 kilograms of weight. A five-link suspension is mounted at both the front and rear, in which the upper arms are connected to the bodywork for optimal rigidity.

Optionally, the "German" is equipped with adaptive shock absorbers with two settings - comfortable and sporty.

The steering of the car "flaunts" an electromechanical amplifier (for a surcharge - with a variable gear ratio), and the braking system - with disc mechanisms on all wheels (in front - with ventilation).

Options and prices. In the Russian market, the fifth generation Audi A4 in 2018 is offered in three equipment options - "Base", "Design" and "Sport".

  • For a base car equipped with a 150-horsepower engine and a front-wheel drive transmission, dealers ask a minimum of 1,970,000 rubles. In fact, we can assume that the Audi A4 B5 is 80 due to the fact that in 1994 the Audi company decided to make a deep restyling of the 80th and give it the name A4. It was produced in the sedan body, but later there was a station wagon body. In all its dimensions, the model was almost the same as the Audi 80, so in the cabin, there are also things reminiscent of the 80th.

The first body was considered an experiment and was built on the same platform as. From the predecessor, as already mentioned, only the size remained, but they also took a 2.6-liter engine, it was slightly modified and began to be used in the new model, but still after that it also disappeared from the car.

A lot of different technologies were used, but the company did not begin to include all these technologies in mass production, they had to give up a lot, for unknown reasons. The Audi A4 is very similar to the Passat of those years, they differed only in the shapes of the bodies and the interior, everything else was almost the same. As a result, this model received a status from buyers not as an ordinary car, but as a more solid car, and because of this, it began to compete well with cars in the D-class.

Exterior

The exterior is of course outdated by modern standards, the smooth embossed hood, narrow halogen headlights and a small chrome grille, all this looks far from modern. The massive front bumper has plastic protection and air intakes, but still this model does not justify.

The profile is as simple as possible, slightly inflated wheel arches, plastic protection at the bottom and in fact there is nothing more interesting here. At the rear, small halogen headlights are used, an embossed trunk lid of the Audi A4 B5, which visually forms a spoiler with its shape, but in fact it is not. The massive rear bumper is equipped with a plastic insert and there is nothing else on it.

The interior, of course, will not surprise with anything either. There are good leather chairs, but the truth is in expensive versions, which are quite rare. The seats are really comfortable, a person of almost any build will feel comfortable on them. There is plenty of room for both the legs and the head. The back row has a sofa for three passengers with an armrest, there is also enough space, but unfortunately there is not much of it.


The steering wheel of a car can be both 3-spoke and 4-spoke, it is sheathed with leather and is adjustable in height and reach. The instrument panel is a set of light bulbs in the event of a malfunction, as well as analog gauges for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel level and oil temperature.

The center console received oval air deflectors, below we can see the light control buttons, and already under all this we are greeted by the head unit, which is no longer found. Below is the control unit for separate climate control, but it was in 1994. These are a couple of monitors and a number of buttons to control all this.

The tunnel has a small ashtray, a cigarette lighter, a rather large gear selector, a parking brake knob and a huge armrest. The luggage compartment is very important in such cars, there is a fairly spacious luggage compartment with a volume of 440 liters, which can be increased to 720 liters by folding the seat building.

The model had in its lineup just a huge number of power units, which are very reliable, since they still drive. These units are not economical by modern standards, since the base unit already uses 11 liters. The cost varies from 150,000 rubles to 400,000 rubles, which is quite a serious variation for the secondary housing.

This is a good car as a budget purchase, it is comfortable and in principle it can be called legendary. If you still decide to take the Audi A4 B5 (1994-2001), then be prepared to repair it, although it is reliable, but not eternal, the years take their toll.
