Rates under the tree Mitsubishi Galant 9. Review of the ninth generation Mitsubishi Galant

24.11.2021

In 1970, a station wagon and a two-door modification with a hardtop body without a B-pillar appeared. A little later, they released the Colt Galant GTO - a dynamic coupe with a sloping rear end and a limited-slip differential (those cars were rear-wheel drive). The most powerful version of the MR was equipped with a very high-tech at that time 4G32 twin-shaft engine with a working volume of 1.6 liters, which developed 125 hp. with.

2nd generation (A112, A114, A115), 1973-1977

In June 1973, the second generation Galant debuted as a standalone model. Two body options were offered - a four-door sedan and a two-door hardtop. In some countries, the car was sold under the Mitsubishi Sapporo name, in Europe as the Colt Galant, and in the USA as the Dodge Colt. The most powerful modification was equipped with a two-liter 125-horsepower Astron engine. And in 1975, a new version of the GTO appeared, the main feature of which was the engine with two balance shafts.

3rd generation (A120 / A130), 1976-1980

In 1976, the third generation Galant was released with a chopped American design and a spring rear suspension instead of a leaf spring. The sedan and station wagon in some markets was called the Galant Sigma and the coupe the Galant Lambda or Sapporo. In Australia, the Galant began production at the Chrysler plant - like the Chrysler Sigma. In the United States, the coupe variant was sold under the name.

4th generation, 1980-1987

In 1980, as a result of a deep restyling, the fourth generation appeared - Galant grew a little and acquired a rear independent suspension. The standard engine was the 4G63 engine of the Sirius family - a two-liter unit with a capacity of 110 liters. with. with electronic fuel injection. Two years later, a turbocharged version appeared. Another novelty was the first in Japan "light" turbodiesel with a volume of 2.3 liters.

5th generation, 1983-1989

In September 1983, a completely new fifth generation Galant was introduced in Japan. It was a front-wheel-drive mid-range sedan equipped with Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Automatic Body Control (ECS) suspension. From this generation, the division into "American" and "European" Galante began: in Europe they sold cars with in-line "fours" with a volume of 2.0 and 2.4 liters, and in the States - with a V-shaped three-liter "six". In addition to the sedan, a hardtop version was produced without a B-pillar. There was also a modification with a 2.0 turbo engine with a capacity of 150 liters. with.

6th generation, 1987-1993

The sixth generation Galant was introduced in October 1987. It was based on a platform from the previous Galant, but it was a technically more complex and sophisticated car. Smaller engines were equipped with multi-valve heads, and ABS was installed in the brake drive. There was an all-wheel drive version of the VR4 with an interaxle limited slip differential and a two-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 240 hp. with. On request, it was possible to install a rear cross-axle differential lock. In addition, the "four" was fully steered - the rear wheels were turned at a small angle by a hydraulic actuator.

7th generation, 1992-1998

In May 1992, the seventh generation Galant appeared. The car was slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, distinguished by a "rounded" design and a wide range of engines. The design of the chassis has become even more complex - in the suspensions, levers and hinges have been added, all-wheel drive and steering on all four wheels have also been revised. The VR4 version received a two-liter V6 engine with two turbines with a capacity of 240 hp. with. As before, Mitsubishi Galant was produced with sedan and hatchback bodies, and the hardtop was offered only in the Japanese market under the name

In 2003, Mitsubishi stopped selling the "eighth" Galant everywhere except Japan: for the local market, until 2006, a sedan with a two-liter "direct" engine with a capacity of 145 liters was produced. with.

It's about Mitsubishi Galant (9th generation). I don’t post photos - everyone knows the car, in principle, although it is not the most "promoted" of cars of this class.

1. Choosing a car.
I chose the car for a long time. I was only interested in the second-hand market, class D and E. Naturally, the choice in this class is not the largest, but still there is. The main priorities: large, moderately powerful, automatic ("old", reliable), comfortable soft suspension, reliable engine and generally the reliability and prostate of the main components ... Well, in general, nothing new, what more could you want from a car)))) Outwardly, I liked the Camry in the 40th body, Mitsubishi Galant, Hengday Grander, Nissan Tiana, and perhaps that's all (right-hand drive: Mark and others did not consider, although Mark is certainly good). Skoda Superb, Chevrolet Epica, etc. did not like externally, so the technical part did not interest me so much.

2. Analysis of "practice".
I studied these cars for a long time in personal communication with the owners, read forums and reviews, etc. I will not write for a long time what I have figured out for myself, but one applicant dropped out (this is Nissan Tiana), there remained Camry, Hyundai Grander and Galant. Here the choice was more difficult, but still the Galant won in the price-quality ratio, he surpassed the Camry and Grander quite easily. I will not describe the agony of choosing between them.

3. External and internal appearance of the 9th generation Galant and the main characteristics.
There is a lot that has been said, written, not everyone will like the car outwardly. But if you look closely, there is nothing ugly about it, graceful smooth muscular forms, a "peasant" car in the full sense of the word. The ground clearance is 165 cm high, the length and the internally usable space are huge, the trunk is large and comfortable. Engine 2.4, reliable to be put on Mitsubishi for a long time, there are no complaints about it, pulls very cheerfully. The weight of the car is very impressive 1650 kg. I am a supporter of "heavy" cars - safety is above all. Despite the fact that the Camry is lighter, and there are a little more horses, but the galant is still faster (the owners of the Camry themselves admitted this), apparently this is the merit of not only the engine but also the machine gun, but more about it later. Inside, everything is very laconic, but at the same time materials of excellent quality are "rich", I don’t know how in the basic configuration, but in the "maximum speed" (leather, sunroof, Rockford audio system) everything is very pleasant, the "plastic" is worn out (in fact, not plastic) perforated rubberized moderately soft material, I have not seen anything like this anywhere. No creaks, no gaps at all. The assembled car is simply amazing. Even many premium classes of the present time (mainly assembled in our country) and even this build quality is not The seats are very comfortable, the driver is electrically regulated in all planes. The quality of the leather is very good. The music "rockfrod" is on top (relatively of course))) ).

4. Cars in motion.
It's just a fairy tale. Smooth running, Shumka and overall comfort are just super for a car in this price range. Yes, the CAMRIVODs will forgive me, but in the smoothness and overall comfort, the Galant wins, that's why I chose him and not the Camry. The car just floats, the road, or rather its absence, is not felt, the suspension simply does not break through everything, I have not seen such a suspension in cars of this class, it is better only for 120 pradics, but this is a different car and a lot has already been said about it. An automatic transmission is something with something, it switches smoothly at all, it is not noticeable, although it is 4 degrees, but very cool in everything, it and the engine understand others from a half-word, the relationship is excellent. The speed is felt only after 140-150 km / h, the power reserve is large. I'm not a racer, but the car, if necessary, picks up speed very quickly when overtaking and other extreme conditions, there is also a manual gear shift mode. There was a case changed with a friend for a while: he Camry I told him a galant. He turned out to be an honest man, admitted that he liked everything on the Galante more, especially in the suspension, and so I ask: "what else", he says: "Well, you know, you can't explain it like that ... -like in everything in general. .. "I got it. Well, you know how in love you can't explain what you love for, or like in an old lobrom movie: "Well, unless you tell a song ..." .))) The engine and gearbox are Japanese and so on ... The car was completely assembled in the USA, and even though we don't like America there, the cars, especially at that time, were assembled very efficiently.

5. The ending.
you can write a lot more. For me, there is only one conclusion. There are no competitors for a car in this price category in this class (at least for me). In 2007-2008, the Camry at maximum speed cost about 850 thousand rubles, a galant at maximum speed about 820 thousand rubles. That is, the new cars are close in price. Now the average price of a solid 07-08 Camry is 600 tr, a solid galant 450 tr. Everything suggests that the Toyota brand is more popular and loses less in price. But this does not mean the "true" price of the car.

pros

➕ Reliability
➕ Suspension
➕ Spacious interior

The advantages and disadvantages of the Mitsubishi Galant 9 are revealed based on feedback from real owners. More detailed pros and cons of the Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 with a gun can be found in the stories below:

Owner reviews

Video review

So I decided to write a review after 2 years of owning this miracle. General emotions from the car are good. I call it a "ship" - large (huge interior), heavy (on the highway like a tank), and, of course, clumsy (large turning radius - you have to get used to the dimensions).

The engine and the gearbox are an excellent combination, those who write about poor dynamics are disingenuous, since the gearbox (an ancient proven 4-speed automatic) is adaptive (if you constantly press, it tears, if it is constantly quiet, then it adapts and starts to hesitate, save fuel).

In general, the engine, gearbox and suspension are very reliable and proven. The salon is large and comfortable. The suspension is soft and comfortable. There are enough dynamics (acceleration is from 60 to 100 km / h, which is from 100 to 140 km / h - smooth). Great music (Roquefort) but no USB. Great family car!

Disadvantages, but what about without them:
1. Fuel consumption: city 15 liters, highway 10-11, blessing that eats 92nd.
2. Dimensions (well, what do you want with a length of under 5 meters).
3. The trunk is average, although the stroller fits, and there is still enough space.
4. After 3.5 thousand. Engine is audible (made Shumkov hood and engine).
5. According to the timing, minor breakdowns begin to creep out.

Sergey, review of Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 automatic transmission 2007 onwards

A new one was taken from the salon, like a workhorse, for everyday driving, in any weather. I would like to note the reliability of this machine. In three years, she covered 127 thousand km of different roads in the impassable expanses of Ukraine. Only consumables were changed, the replacement of which was required by the warranty. I left the guarantee for 80 thousand km.

Hardy, moderately soft and moderately stiff suspension. The comrade compared with his Mercedes E-class for 90 thousand cu. e. He noted the good energy content of the suspension. Stable and maneuverable on steep turns, descents and ascents at a speed of 150-160 km / h. Holds well at 180-190 km / h in a straight line.

Spacious salon, children literally walk around it. There is enough trunk. I would like a little more horses, but there is enough motor on the tracks. In the city, I would like more lightness and agility in the steering wheel, but it is made for the track.

Consumption is acceptable, it all depends on how to press the pedal. The main thing is that it consumes what is declared. Lil mainly 95th gasoline. Sometimes the second was flooded, but immediately felt a difference in the engine's operation. With our quality of gasoline on the highways, it is better to pour a good 95th, less consumption and the machine runs faster, and most importantly smoothly. The brakes are completely satisfactory.

Cons:

- "Bugs" in the cabin, even in a new car;
- The lack of an on-board computer, however, you get used to it, the main thing is not to forget to fill up the fuel when the sensor lights up;
- Large triangular dead zones in the area of mirrors, a couple of times I lost sight of other road users in them;
- Large turning radius in the city, when driving on paving stones, there is a slight rattling in the steering wheel, a little unpleasant.
- In the front passenger seat, the torpedo drops down at an angle and for a tall person the shoes rest against it.
- In winter, a lot of sand flies from under the front wheels on the sprinkled roads and sweeps strongly the bends in the lower part of the rear doors and arches, the noise from this is strong.
- Appearance - the front end is in doubt, but otherwise I even like it.

The owner drives a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant 9 automatic 2.4

- the 2.4 engine is rather weak with a (empty) machine weight of 2 tons.
- The box is high-spirited, but the 5th gear suggests itself.
- the leather in the interior of the late 90s, not soft, no perforation.
- low ceiling (complete with a hatch) with my height of 172 cm !!!
- steering wheel adjustment only up and down, inconvenient.
- the screen of the radio is difficult to read in bright light.
- dynamics by 3, handling at sharp turns by 4.
- the ventilation system is not well thought out. Whatever one may say, it blows in the face.
- poor insulation.
- no parking sensors.

High ground clearance.
+ excellent suspension.
+ dynamic acceleration.
+ spacious interior, especially in the back (due to the modest trunk).
+ low fuel consumption, given the weight of the car + omnivorous.
+ inexpensive service.
+ audacious appearance, although the front view is controversial, it is worth looking at it from an angle.

Review of Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 automatic 2009

Once upon a time, in the late 1980s, the Mitsubishi Galant was one of the sportiest sedans in its class. It offered steerable rear wheels and a powerful turbocharged version, the VR4. Subsequent generations became more comfort-oriented, and interest in the model dropped noticeably. A brief revival took place in 1997 when the eighth Galante debuted with an attractive dynamic look. True, the car itself was not so interesting.

The last Galante does not look as daring as before. It is built on the Mitsubishi PS platform - common with the Mitsubishi Endeavor and Eclipse.

Another Japanese sedan has noticeably increased in size, which has a positive effect on the internal dimensions. The width of the cabin has increased to 145 cm, and the space between the backs of the first and second rows - up to 94 cm. Nevertheless, the back sofa is not so spacious, but the three of us are cramped. There is a lack of higher quality materials inside. The plastic looks cheap, and it starts to creak over time.

The American versions, in addition to the base DE, received three more trim levels: ES, LS and the sporty GTS. The SE (Sport Edition) trim replaced the GTS after restyling in 2008. At the same time, the shape of the rear lights also changed.

Six airbags and full power accessories are included in the DE standard equipment list. The ES version features body-colored moldings, exterior mirrors and door handles. The LS modification acquired an electric driver's seat. Automatic climate control was installed only in the GTS, all others were equipped with conventional air conditioning. Of the assistance systems, only ABS with electronic brake force distribution is provided (except for DE). The stabilization system was not installed.

In terms of safety, the ninth Galant earned four stars according to the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The sedan received similar marks from the IIHS Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Engines

The DE and ES versions were equipped with a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter naturally aspirated (4G69) with 160 hp, while the LS and GTS were equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 (6G75) / 230 hp. (since 2008 258 hp). The Russian Mitsubishi Galant 9 was equipped exclusively with a petrol four with a capacity of 158 hp. Both engines have a belt-type timing drive with a change interval of 60,000 km.

The 4G69 is an extremely reliable unit. Problems with it arise solely through the fault of the owner, in particular due to untimely service. Unlike its predecessor - 4G64, hydraulic lifters are not provided here. Therefore, after every 100,000 km, it is necessary to adjust the valve clearance. It is carried out using adjusting screws.

After 150-200 thousand km, oil may appear in the candle wells. It is easy to eliminate the leak, and you will need about 500 rubles for a set of new gaskets. After a while, the valve stem seals may "harden", which contributes to an increase in oil consumption. For replacement, it is better to use the help of a car service.

Over time, many owners begin to notice the low oil pressure warning lamp burning in full heat. It's all about the sensor itself or its contacts. In the latter case, the disease manifests itself in damp weather or during rain. Moisture gets on the connector pins. It is better to replace the sensor - from 300 rubles.

After 150-200 thousand km, attention will be required for a starter, a generator, oxygen sensors and a clogged catalyst. Most likely, due to the vibrations that have appeared, the rear engine support will also have to be replaced - from 3,000 rubles.

Top-end versions with a 3.8-liter V6 are extremely rare in Russia and there is little information on them. The V6 is the same used in the Mitsubishi Pajero IV and Endeavor. There, the engine has proven itself on the positive side. True, there are isolated cases of loosening of the fastening screws of the flaps in the intake manifold and subsequent ingress into the cylinders. And after 150-200 thousand km, due to the natural aging process, attachments begin to fail gradually.

Transmission

The Mitsubishi Galant 9 engines were aggregated only with a 4-speed automatic (F4A4B), which, in combination with the V6, provided the possibility of manual gear selection. In 2008, the V6 was equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The machine is very reliable. The main thing is not to forget to renew the oil in the box every 60,000 km.

After 100,000 km, owners often notice the appearance of small aftershocks. The disease does not progress, so there is no need to worry. Many machines passed 250-300 thousand km without problems and repairs. By this time, the drive oil seals may have to be replaced.

It is worth noting that the automatic transmission, like many machines, does not like long-term slippage. After such "exercises" Galant often goes to the service due to problems with the box.

Undercarriage

The soft suspension absorbs most road bumps. MacPherson struts work on the front axle, and a multi-link design on the rear. Fortunately, the suspension elements are pretty tough. Replacing silent blocks or levers may be needed only after 150-200 thousand km. But shock absorbers can leak after 100,000 km. After 100-150 thousand km, replacement of wheel bearings is often required (from 3,000 rubles for an analogue or 12,000 rubles - for an original assembled with a hub)

After 150-200 thousand km, the power steering pump may buzz. Repair is usually not advisable. The replacement option is much more reliable. The cost of a new pump is from 13,000 rubles.

The steering rack, as an example of many modern automakers, is durable. Knocks may appear only after 200-250 thousand km, and even then, only on individual copies.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The body is not prone to corrosion. However, when examining the Galant, special attention should be paid to the inside of the doors, hood and sills. Sometimes red spots are found there.

Sometimes after 100-150 thousand km there are problems with the air conditioning compressor - it starts to make noise or howl. The reason may be both in the connection sleeve (from 10,000 rubles), and in the compressor itself (from 65,000 rubles). Often, a problematic unit can be repaired, which is much cheaper.

Conclusion

Mitsubishi Galant does not suffer from any serious illnesses. Malfunctions are usually age-related. True, in the event of repairs, you will have to fork out pretty much - new original parts are often unjustifiably expensive. Fortunately, there are plenty of substitutes on the market.

    The ninth generation of the Mitsubishi Galant car began its history in the distant fall of 2003, when the mass production of the car began. The car was built on the PS platform, which was developed by Mitsubishi North America and was intended for mid-size and front-wheel drive vehicles. In addition to the Galant, models such as the Endeavor crossover and the Eclipse sports compact were produced on the same platform. All three models were part of the so-called "Project America", the goal of which was the mass production of Mitsubishi vehicles for the United States market. It was the latter fact that became the key in the issue of a sharp change in the design of the Galant in comparison with the previous generation of the car, which many people fell in love with with sports forms. In Russia, the beginning of sales of the ninth generation Galant began in 2006 and ended in 2010.The model finally left the world market in 2012.

    In 2008, Galant IX began to be produced in a restyled version, which received updates in appearance, such as: front bumper, fog lights, radiator grille, headlights, taillights. In addition, the interior of the updated model now had a silver interior trim, rather than "wood" and the dashboard redesigned. On the technical side, the changes were minimal - these are the front brakes, the exhaust system began to have strictly 2 lambdas, and there were two cooling fans. All of the above changes refer primarily to cars that were officially sold in the CIS countries. North American cars are slightly different from ours, for example in the size of the side mirrors, the shape of the front fenders, the ground clearance, etc.

    Overall dimensions of Mitsubishi Galant IX for the Russian market.

    Length 4865mm;

    Width 1840mm;

    Height 1485mm;

    Wheelbase 2750mm;

    Ground clearance 165mm;

    Front track width 1570mm;

    Rear track width 1570mm;

    Trunk volume 435 l.

    Mitsubishi Galant IX engines.

    On the territory of the Russian Federation, the Galant model of the ninth generation was sold only with an atmospheric four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine. (model 4G69), which had a maximum power of 158 (160) hp. at 5500 rpm and max. torque 213Nm at 4000 rpm. The 4G69 motor is nothing more than an updated old 4G64, which has been produced since 1983. The 4G69 is the latest member of the large Sirius family of motors. Compared to the 4G64, the new engine has reduced the height of the cylinder block by 6mm. up to 284mm., put lighter pistons, connecting rods and a crankshaft - 278g, 530g. and 14.9kg. respectively., made a larger cylinder diameter - 87mm., and also increased the diameters of the intake and exhaust valves to 34.0 and 30.5mm. respectively. A completely new cylinder head was introduced, which had a system for changing the valve timing and valve lift MIVEC. As a timing belt, a toothed belt is used, the recommended replacement interval of which is 90 thousand km., Or 5 years of operation. There are no hydraulic lifters on the 4G69 engine, which is why every 45 thousand km. it is necessary to adjust the valve clearances.

    For almost 15 years of operation of cars with this engine, and it was installed not only on Mitsubishi car models, but also on large-circulation Chinese cars, such as BYD S6, JMC Vigor Pickup 4x4 and Great Wall Haval H5, we can safely say that the engine is mega -reliable and not whimsical, if you meet the deadlines and regularly perform routine maintenance work on the power plant. The resource of the 4G69 engine is 400-500 thousand km. Only after runs of 200-250 thousand km. ask for the replacement or repair of some attachments - a generator, a starter, as well as lambdas and a catalyst. There are problems with the oil pressure sensor, sometimes you have to change the set of gaskets at the candle wells due to the appearance of oil there. There are also rare cases of an increase in the oil appetite of the motor, as a rule, the reason for this is the stiffened valve stem seals, which ask for replacement.

    Outside of the Russian Federation, Galant was also produced with a naturally aspirated V6 engine with a volume of 3.8 liters. ( 6G75) with a maximum power of 233 (since 2008 261) hp. at 5250 (6000) rpm and max. cool. torque 250 (329) Nm at 4000 (2700) rpm. This power plant is part of the Cyclone V6 engine family. This engine is a descendant of the 6G74 model with a volume of 3.5 liters. - the cylinder block is cast iron, the piston stroke is 90mm., the cylinder diameter is 95mm, the compression ratio is 9.8. Forged connecting rods. The cylinder head has a single-shaft design with 24 valves. In addition, a system for changing the valve timing and valve lift MIVEC is installed. As a drive, the same as on a 2.4l motor. a belt is used, the replacement interval of which is the same - 90 thousand km. The 6G75 engine has shown itself to be a fairly reliable unit, its resource is from 400 thousand km. mileage. Of the rare but well-aimed problems, the following can be voiced: There were cases when the screws for fastening the valves of the variable geometry of the intake manifold were unauthorizedly unscrewed and, as a result, all these screws, getting into the cylinders, led the owners to the capital ... Similar cases were also on engines 6G74 (DOHC ) and apparently inherited.

    Mitsubishi Galant IX transmission.

    Before restyling, a 4-speed automatic transmission model F4A4B in the 4L1Z modification was installed in a pair for both engines. Moreover, with the 6G75 engine, the driver had the ability to manually shift the gearbox. Starting with the restyling, the V6 version of the car began to be produced with an automatic transmission in 5 steps. The procedure for a partial oil change in automatic transmissions recommended by the owners is a mileage of 50-60 thousand km. The resource of both automatic transmissions, with proper maintenance, is 250-350 thousand km.

    Suspension and steering Mitsubishi Galant IX.

    Suspension - MacPherson strut front, multi-link rear. Very soft and durable. Apart from the shock absorbers, which hold up to 120 thousand km, the rest of the parts begin to ask for repairs on runs for 150-200 thousand km. The owners of the ninth generation Mitsubishi Galant do not remember about the rail until the runs of 250-300 thousand km. But the power steering pump can hum a little earlier - on a run of 200-250 thousand km.

    Output.

    Mitsubishi Galant of the ninth and so far the last generation is certainly an interesting car - with a rather controversial appearance, the sedan boasts a large enough interior space in its class, a very comfortable suspension and resource engines with good characteristics. Of course, there are also ailments typical for older cars, but all of them can be solved on a fairly budgetary basis.
