Skoda Fabia - owner reviews. Negative, neutral and positive feedback

19.11.2021

At the 58th Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1999, a presentation of a small class car made in the Czech Republic took place. S Koda Fabia(Mk1). New model became the heir to the popular and largely successful Skoda Felicia, and marked the beginning of a new era in the development of the Czech automobile industry. The compactness and maneuverability of the new product were appreciated by many European drivers, and thanks to its attractive appearance"Fabia" in the early 2000s became one of the most popular cars of the "B" category.

In 2007, the manufacturer presented the second generation (Mk2) of the hatchback, and seven years later the Czechs announced the release of the third generation - Mk3. The popularity of the model has reached unprecedented heights this year. Part of the Fabia's success can be attributed to the fact that its main mechanical components were developed and manufactured by Volkswagen. The components and maintenance of the car cost significantly less in comparison with other “brainchildren” of the Volkswagen Group. The reliability and quality of the German automobile industry is practically beyond doubt. But, nevertheless, it is important for the future owner to know the actual service life of the Skoda Fabia 1.2, 1.4 engine.

Motor specifications

The range of car power units is quite diverse, but engines with a displacement of 1.2 and 1.4 liters are most widely used. Many experienced Skoda Fabia owners agree that the 1.4-liter MPI OHV engine is the most successful development Volkswagen concern. The motor is characterized by high dynamics, low level fuel consumption, design simplicity and long service life. Skoda Fabia 1.4 is a real workhorse, capable of tirelessly plowing our roads for more than 300 thousand kilometers.

Engine characteristics:

  • Power – 68, 86 and 101 Horse power;
  • Number of valves – 16;
  • Torque – 132 Nm;
  • Fuel consumption in the suburban/urban cycle – 5/7.5 l.

The popularity did not escape the modification with a 1.2 liter inline three-cylinder engine. It is made of detachable cylinder blocks with cast iron sleeves. Thanks to this arrangement, it was possible to significantly reduce the weight of the car. Due to the cooling jacket channels located across the channels, long-term operation is possible power plant on high speed without overheating. Speed and reliability are what are most valued in the 1.2-liter version. We can say that these are the main advantages of a small engine compared to its analogues.

How long do Skoda Fabia engines last?

Both engines have already been tested by time, and have also been upgraded with turbocharging and direct injection. Many novice drivers often ask the question: “what is the service life of the 1.4 86 hp engine?” Skoda Fabia? Such a power unit is ideally capable of “traversing” 400 thousand kilometers before the first major overhaul. It is quite high-torque and meets Euro-5 emission standards. The timing drive is a belt, the service life of which is about 90,000 km. In some cases, premature failure of the element is possible - it all depends on driving style and operating conditions. The manufacturer recommends filling only AI-95, but using AI-92 is acceptable.

The service life of the Skoda Fabia 1.2 engine is slightly longer than the previous modification. Cars that have traveled 500 thousand km with this engine under the hood are not a rarity today, but a real example of engineering. Compared to the 1.4-liter version, a chain is installed here instead of a belt, which gives the engine endurance. The chain works flawlessly for the first 150,000 km. Due to double-row sprockets on the crankshaft and camshaft, tooth wear is noticeably reduced, which significantly extends the service life of important structural elements.

Power unit life according to owner reviews

With careful and timely maintenance of the car, breakdowns practically do not occur. The manufacturer also recommends undergoing a technical inspection every 15 thousand kilometers and changing the oil at the same time. Castrol engine oils and Shell Helix Ultra with viscosity 5W30. Another undeniable advantage of Skoda Fabia engines is the presence of hydraulic tensioners, which can be used to tension the chain if it becomes loose. As for the official resource of power units, some dealers claim 300 thousand km before the first overhaul. What is this figure actually? Owner reviews will tell you.

Motor 1.2

  1. Vadim, Kazan. I purchased this car in 2013, during all this time I have already covered 90,000 km. I’ll tell you right away what problems arose during the operation of the machine. The heater control unit burned out after 50 thousand kilometers, and after another ten thousand the exhaust valve burned out. The AI-95 Rostneft was refueled; the service station said that the breakdown may have occurred due to low-quality gasoline. The chain is still in good condition, the engine as a whole runs stably, at high speed no overheating.
  2. Sergey. Ufa. Great car, my car is still 1st generation, 2002. Suitable for both girls and guys. Today the car's mileage is 300 thousand km. The motor is excellent, no jambs were noticed. There are some problems with it, it often breaks down and starts increased consumption. And so, in general, this is a fairly economical and reliable hatchback. Many people complain that the 1.2-liter engine is too weak. I wouldn’t say so – the dynamics and speed are quite enough. Consumables are inexpensive, suitable from other VAG representatives.
  3. Maxim, Cheboksary. I've been driving a Skoda Fabia Mk2 since 2008. Lightweight, maneuverable and unpretentious car. During the entire time I owned the car, I only changed the chain, since the mileage is already more than 200 thousand kilometers, bushings and stabilizer links. These parts are very cheap, of course, it is necessary to replace them on time motor oil. Generally speaking, there are no problems with the car at all. The engine runs like a clock, the main thing is to maintain it on time and efficiently.
  4. Vladimir, Moscow. Great option for daily trips. Driving a Fabia since 2010. No problems with the chassis, electronics, or engine. Plus, a galvanized body and high-quality painting. Sound insulation can be improved, but this is all individual. Over 90 thousand km, only the ignition coil broke, and some other minor breakdowns. In our conditions, the chain lasts 100,000 km, sometimes it slips, but very rarely. Most often, it gives signals that it has exhausted its resource - characteristic sounds beating when starting the engine cold.

About the engine- 1, 2 is very little! The car accelerates very poorly and does not go uphill at all. My pedal is always on the floor!!! (This has never happened on any of my cars). And if you also take passengers with you... Eh... It took a long time to get used to the fact that the speed on the tachometer is 2.5-3 is the norm. Comfortable speed on the highway is 80-90 km/h. Accelerating to 120-130 km/h, you will feel that the engine is about to jump out of the car.

About the ride- The first 10,000 km. and the impression of a new chassis disappeared like smoke...

About the salon- Asceticism, wretchedness and dullness, cheap plastic. The interior is reminiscent of Japanese cars from the 80s and 90s. Consider the strange and inconvenient “bumps” for adjusting the side mirrors. They are awkward to adjust and easy to disturb in the cabin. There is a rather large steering wheel, but the gear shift lever is short, apparently for long-armed people... The only thing that makes me happy is the height adjustment of the seats, a good seating position. Separately, I would like to note the inconvenient location of the pedal, they are right side and you have to sit diagonally, and it’s not far from the curvature of the spine.

About appearance - The car looks quite big, but the interior is very cramped. The white body color is also poor (at least they could add some shine). Small wheels. The ground clearance is good and it is convenient to avoid potholes on the roads. On the very first day of use, the glass came out of its groove, but nothing was put back in and it works.

About consumption - I can’t say anything here, since I’m not particularly worried about this topic, but I think the consumption is 8-9 liters. And in general it depends on the driving style. Oh, and there’s a lock on the gas tank cap, which is very inconvenient when you have to additionally lock and open it with the keys at the gas station.

Think, decide, but in my opinion, the Skoda Fabia with engine 1, 2 is not the best option...

Bought in 2013 and clocked 1084 km. You say you’ve driven so little and leave a review! But there are problems and people should know when buying this car.. Everything is good, the ride is pleasant, the power is in city and country mode, the tracks and the car is good, but the whole picture is spoiled by the assembly Kaluga plant or maybe depending on your luck. In general, when purchasing, you need to check everything carefully. In order for everything to work and spin and turn, in my case the rear wiper did not work right away. The wait for spare parts is several weeks, and then you need to constantly call and remind yourself, or the officials will kill you.

And so what are the problems with this run:

  • rear door wiper not working
  • Driver's seat is not tightened
  • There was a knock in the front suspension on the right. And I'm not a racer, the car is good, but the Russian assembly is crap!!! All that remains of German quality is the name Volkswagen Group, shame.

I will not make any more mistakes in the form of purchases from this concern and I do not advise anyone to take a closer look at the Koreans and French. One fat plus consumption can be refueled through a beer cap, everything that will happen next is scary.... Kaluga, don’t spoil the cars and the Germans, watch out for the build quality or disappointment is coming.... Answer from hotline Skoda can’t help... Plant in Kaluga Volkswagen Group your problems... In general, after the purchase these are your problems, it’s very sad what is the attitude towards customers in a family called Skoda.... What’s most offensive is that even the subframe of the car was not tightened and the suspension in general is also all one huge risk... After purchasing this product, people need to be very careful and go to the service center to get advice from the owner.... mileage is 7500 km.

Positive reviews

It looks small, but is actually quite spacious car. I bought my girl new, it has been in use for two years. Czech car with galvanized body. Very economical fuel consumption from 5.5 to 6 liters per 100 km. Very nimble, comfortable and convenient. It seems low-passenger, but in fact it’s just right for our roads! Comfortable seats and improved climate control, reasonable price, inexpensive to maintain, trunk not large enough, but basically enough. Looks most advantageous in this color. Very pleased with my choice. I think that the Skoda Fabia is a car for the city; I haven’t driven it far yet, but I can allow myself 140 km on the highway.

This former car my uncle’s wife, which they gave her for her 50th birthday in the fall of 2012, having bought it on a contract for 200 thousand. R. The set is the simplest. I remember there weren’t even electric windows on the mirrors. Engine 1. 2 3-cylinder. Its power is only about 60-64 hp. with paired with 5 manual transmission. Precisely because manual box it was sold in the spring of 2013, because my uncle’s wife could not get used to it after the accident, especially when parking in a limited space. You can see the mileage in the photo. Attention moderators: do not delete the photo, as this photo is real of this car. I downloaded them from the car, since it was put up for sale there and only photos of this car were preserved in the archive. They don’t have a single photo left, and especially not me.

Well, now about the car itself through the eyes of the passenger, that is, me. I've ridden it more than once, so believe me, it won't work out, so the first impression is deceiving. Because during the first test drive I draw approximate conclusions, and then later agree with them during several further trips.

When you just start driving off in this car, you immediately feel good acceleration without any dullness or turbo lag. Therefore, acceleration is always smooth up to maximum speed and lightning fast. In my presence, it was accelerated to 140 km/h without straining, but it feels like the agility is rushing right over the edge and can put it at 180. With this active driving mode, consumption outside the city does not approximately exceed 5-6 liters. If you drive approximately 110-120 in 5th gear, the consumption is less than 5 liters.

I would also like to note the fact that the car itself moves willingly and quickly overtakes other cars. I remember, even in my presence, they somehow overtook a Civic Ferio without any tension, when they overtook they saw the driver and there was surprise on his face that he had been overtaken so easily. I was also impressed by the very smooth ride and stability, which is phenomenal for this class of car at high speeds.

But what struck me even more was how well it holds the road on a bad road at a speed of 110 km/h or even higher, without having to steer the car often. They had a 2003 Honda Fit. c, so it was not so stable compared to this car. Well, the engine itself is quite smart and spins up quickly. By the way, the engine should go even faster if they changed fuel filter, but they never did. As a result, we can say from the engine that this car has an ideal balance between gearbox and engine!

This car also has a fairly large trunk for its class and excellent build quality. The fact that the interior was very simple did not bother them at all.

There are essentially no shortcomings. But they say this motor is very capricious and requires timely maintenance. Well, it’s expensive. In the video below you will understand why it is so unreliable. So you better look at 1.4mt, or at. Well, or look at this engine more closely when buying? Then they replaced this car with a Kia Rio 2002. at 1.5 as they say, compared to this one, the Kia doesn’t go.

I spent a long time choosing a car: there were a lot of requirements, and the price of many companies left me sighing heavily in the corner. And then I accidentally came across HER - “Skoda Fabia”. I looked at the salon, sat inside and immediately fell in love. The only thing is that we had to wait a long time for it to arrive - 8 months. But after this period, when I finally received it and drove the first kilometers, I thought that it was not in vain that I waited.

Indeed, this small machine has a number of advantages:

  • First, safety - well, where would we be without it! Two airbags, ABS - this is always and everywhere.
  • Secondly, convenience - well, you don’t know what to write here - for a minimal package of additional options, the car has turned into candy, where you sit as if on a throne.
  • Third - efficiency - well, I don’t know about others, but with my manual I spend about 6.5-8 l/100 km in the city, and on the highway this figure drops to 4.5 - 5l! Well, isn't it a miracle?
  • Next, I’ll immediately move on to the controls - there are a lot of advantages, starting from the notorious electric power steering (I tried for a long time to figure out how to do it, but no one really explained it, but so far I’m not complaining), and ending with maneuverability. Now parking has become a pleasant little thing for me (and before that, like many women driving, I had to taxi 5 times), the car turns almost on the spot, the speed holds well - 140 km/h goes smoothly, steadily, softly and is ready to accelerate even more (I haven’t tried it again yet, I’m afraid of cameras).
  • The gearbox (I have a manual) shifts very easily, softly and comfortably, and the panel with on-board computer will show all the necessary data.
  • The seat, which adjusts precisely to the driver, is another very pleasant and comfortable detail.

Of course, it’s difficult to tell about everything, you just have to sit down and try.

The agony of choice among potential candidates was the 2010-2011 Hyundai Accent, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Getz. Goetz didn’t like the poor interior, sluggish acceleration, and controversial appearance, although many people like it. The Accent pleased me with its accelerating dynamics and the opportunity to get an automatic for little money, the archaic plastic interior is much less annoying than the Goetze, but I was put off by the car’s low seating position (when fully loaded it practically rests on the belly), the build quality, and the C-grade appearance.

Yaris is a completely modern city car, pleasant (for everyone) appearance, spacious interior by class standards, wonderful digital panel devices, but the price is 50-80 thousand rubles higher than classmates, negating all the advantages of this car. Later it turned out that it is almost impossible to find a car in good condition from 2005-2008, there are many major damage or problems with the robot (automatic transmission), and if everything is in order, then the price is very close to the king of the same years.

Skoda pleased us with its German-style comfortable interior, discreet but somehow pleasant appearance, elastic suspension, and unexpectedly energetic acceleration for the 1.4 engine. Actually, that’s why the decision was made: Let’s take it!!!

Salon - A typically German salon in the good sense of the word. After all, the Fabia is practically a restyled Volkswagen Polo with a Skoda nameplate. All knobs, knobs and buttons are in their places. There is no feeling that they saved money on you like the Koreans. The interior space is laid out so competently that this car can even serve as a small family car. Comfortable seats, a small but sufficient trunk, in general, you can’t shake the feeling that the car was made by people for people.

Motor - 1, 4 is quite enough for the city to stay faster than the flow; you won’t be a Schumacher on the highway, but you can maintain a comfortable speed of 110-120 km/h for a long time.

Chassis - elastic, energy-intensive suspension, practically does not break through and is quite durable on our roads.

Breakdowns and consumption - I never would have thought about it, but it’s a fact that at 46,000 km the rear drum brake pads were stuck. 51,000 km the wipers stopped turning on, thought it was a fuse, by the way, a visit to the officials first sentenced the motor assembly with the trapezoid, after the fault repeated after 1,500 km, the steering column switch was replaced. Just in case, the fireman decided to replace the timing belt at 60,000 km and was horrified: it looked like an old doormat, the wear was simply catastrophic, although according to the timing regulations, the timing belt was changed later (I don’t remember at 75,000 or 90,000 km) and the funny thing is, from 60,000 to 93,000 km there was not a single breakdown brake pads, oil, filter do not count.

Consumption city 8-10 in the “take off at every traffic light” mode up to 11, highway 5-7, 8 with constant overtaking.

In conclusion, an honest car that was slightly damaged Russian assembly, roads, gasoline. Ideal car for Europe.

This is our first car, I want to say, a very successful purchase!

Super-economical, which is very important, especially for a young family: pour a glass of gasoline and then drive for a week =))))))

Compact, but roomy (enough space for passengers, and you can put an elephant in the trunk). Parking is not a problem with such a car, and it is very convenient to maneuver on the road. With a small engine capacity (accordingly, we pay scanty taxes) 1.4 liters. , the car is surprisingly fast =)))

As for maintenance, this is also inexpensive. It breaks down very rarely (pah-pah-pah!), in 1.5 years they only changed the light bulb in the headlight, the fuse, silent blocks and some other small things. Naturally, this cannot but rejoice! =)))

At the moment I am completely satisfied with this car, in the future we will most likely exchange it for a Fabia, only a newer one. So I RECOMMEND it to those who need an economical and practical car! =)))

Yes, many are right, the car is excellent and does not cause any trouble. I bought mine in 2008 at Atlant M (now I go there for service while it’s under warranty). In general, Fabia is a beauty and a hard worker. The interior is good, it is comfortable for both the driver and passengers, I compared it with similar Koreans and French - you know, you get into a seemingly budget Fabia and everything suits you, the interior looks without frills but is strictly, elegant, like in more expensive cars, the plastic is also up to par. But in other cars of the same class, even at a higher price, this is not the case. There are no complaints about the box or mirrors, but the sound insulation is not up to par and the suspension is a bit harsh. But for such a cost, I consider it just little things.

The confrontation between European and Asian cars is more relevant than ever. So today, we will compare the Skoda Fabia and the Hyundai Getz. Both models have proven themselves well on the world market, but the question remains: which is better - Fabia or Goetz?

Fabia is a popular small car, the name of which comes from the English word “fabulous”, which literally means “amazing, amazing”. The model was first presented to the public in 1999, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In the spring of 2007, at an event in Geneva, the Fabia 2 debuted, which retained the same modular platform, but was noticeably larger.

In the fall of 2014, the third generation Fabia was presented in Paris. It’s interesting that the new product was recognized the best car, from point of view passive safety, in the segment. Also, in 2007, the model was recognized as the best compact car on the world market.

Another subcompact Hyundai Getz first appeared on the market in 2002. Interestingly, depending on the country in which the model is implemented, it is called differently. For example, Hyundai Click - in Korea, Hyundai TB - in Japan and Dodge Breeze - in Venezuela. In 2005, the car underwent restyling, as a result of which its name also changed, now sounding - Goetz 2.

In 2011, production of the model was stopped, and its direct replacement was domestic market became Solaris. Interestingly, in 2005 the car was recognized as the best in Russia.

Since Goetz is no longer produced, and Fabia continues to remain on Olympus automotive world, at this point we will give preference to a Czech car.

Appearance

Externally, both cars are united by the fact that they have an unusual exterior. For example, in the appearance of the Skoda Fabia one can see cuteness and neatness. Experts have repeatedly noted that this is the only Skoda car whose appearance cannot be called respectable and representative.

Hyundai Getz does not look very convincing in appearance, and it certainly cannot be called the most stylish model Korean company. In the appearance of the car there is compactness and practicality, under which are hidden small notes of progressiveness.

Taking into account all of the above, we will award this local confrontation a draw.

Salon

Honestly, from the point of view of manufacturability, comparing car interiors is pointless, since the Czech model in this regard is two heads taller than its opponent. If in the interior of the Goetz you can observe the rigor and laconism inherent in most Asian cars, then in the interior of the Fabia you can notice European sophistication, with a thoughtful arrangement of each element and optimal ergonomics.

It is worth noting that on dashboard Fabia has a huge color screen, while Korean developers decided to make do with a small display. This, of course, does not show the overall picture, but gives an approximate idea of how the Fabia salon more technologically advanced than the interior Goetz.

Plus, there is much more space inside a Czech car. This can be understood even by the trunk capacity – 300 liters versus 254, in favor of the Fabius. The situation is the same with the quality of finishing work - the clear favorite here is the Skoda Fabia.

Since the Fabia's interior is better than its counterpart in almost all aspects of the interior, it is the Czech car that wins on this point.

Specifications

For the most objective comparison, we chose two versions of cars, the role of engines in which is performed by 1.4-liter gasoline units. It is worth immediately noting that both Goetz and Fabia are built on a front-wheel drive car.

As for the engines themselves, Goetz’s engine produces 97 horsepower, while Fabius’s produces only 86 horsepower. Considering this, it is surprising that the acceleration time from zero to hundreds is better for Fabius - 12.3 s, versus 13.9 s for the opponent. This is most likely due to the fact that the Czech car has a higher maximum rpm. – 3300, against 3200 for his today’s counterpart. However, in the combined cycle, both cars have the same - 6.5 liters per hundred.

Interestingly, the Fabia is superior to Goetz in all dimensions. The body of the Czech car is 175 mm longer and 8 mm higher. The Fabius also has a longer wheelbase - 2465 mm versus 2455 mm, and a ground clearance that is 14 mm higher than that of the Goetz. However, korean car 20 kg lighter than its current competitor.

Price

In those years when Goetz was still being produced, it could be purchased for an average of 465,000 rubles. In turn, it will cost about 80,000 rubles more. It's interesting that on secondary market the cost of the cars is almost the same.

Skoda Fabia 2) is one of the most successful models of the Czech brand. This is small, economical and comfortable car recognized as one of best options for everyday movement around the city. There is an opinion that a small car is only suitable for women, but in big cities, where there are more and more cars every year, compact and nimble cars are gaining more and more popularity among men, and the Skoda Fabia 2 is one of them. Therefore, today we decided to check how things are going with the reliability of this car, and what to look for Special attention buying this car in used condition.

A little history:

The debut of the Skoda Fabia took place at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in 1999. This model replaced the previously produced Skoda Felicia model on the market. The car was produced in three modifications - hatchback, sedan and combi. The Skoda Fabia 2 debuted at the Geneva auto show, and serial assembly began in the same year. The car was assembled at factories in the Czech Republic, India, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, as well as in Ukraine and Russia. The second generation of the car was available only in two body types - hatchback and combi and it was made in the same style as.

Compared to the previous generation, the Skoda Fabia 2 has significantly increased in size, despite the fact that they are built on the same platform. In 2010, a restyled version of the car appeared on the market, the main differences of which, from the pre-restyling version, were: a modified radiator grille, front bumper and front optics; also, engines of the TSI family appeared in the line of power units. In the second generation of the model, adaptive headlights are installed, and the internal reflective surface has been replaced with a diffuser lens. At the end of 2014, the third generation of the car premiered at the Paris Motor Show.

Problem areas of Skoda Fabia 2 with mileage

The body of the Skoda Fabia 2 resists the onslaught of the red disease well. But there are complaints about the quality of the paintwork. For example, in places where there are chips (especially on the sills and front arches), over time, the paint swells and falls off in pieces. Also, there are complaints about the reliability of external electrical equipment. Most often, owners have trouble with the electric wiper drive, and if it fails, they will have to change the trapezoid. Often, the washer malfunctions. rear window, often this problem the owners decide on their own - by correcting a rotated injector or a shifted drive. If water appears in the trunk, all ventilation openings and openings for lights must be sealed.

Engines

Skoda Fabia 2 was equipped with the following power units: petrol 1.2 (60, 70 hp), 1.4 (86, 180 hp), 1.6 (105 hp); TSI 1.2 (88, 105 hp), 1.6 (90, 105 hp); diesel 1.2 (75 hp) 1.4 (69, 80 hp), 1.9 (105 hp). When choosing a car of this model, you need to know that the larger the engine size you choose, the fewer problems there will be with it in the future. The most the best option, in terms of dynamics and reliability, the 1.6-liter power unit is considered, but it also has minor drawbacks. One of the most common problems with this motor is the failure of the position sensor. throttle valve. The pump is not famous for its long service life; in order not to end up in an unpleasant situation, it should be changed at the same time as the timing belt and rollers.

The 1.2 engine is equipped with a timing chain drive, the life of the chain is quite small, about 100,000 km, and replacing it will cost a pretty penny. It should be noted that if the chain slips and bends the valves, you will have to change the engine, since it is not repairable. Also, to the disadvantages of this engine This can be attributed to low power, leaking cylinder head gaskets and oil seals. For 1.2 and 1.6 TSI engines, oil consumption increases after 100,000 km.

Owners of Skoda Fabia 2 s naturally aspirated engine 1.4 noted problems with cold starts and prolonged warm-up power unit. Ignition coils are not famous for their reliability either. It is worth noting that everything gasoline engines demanding on fuel quality. Diesel engines- a great rarity for our market, but from the examples that we use, we can say that they are reliable, but only on the condition that the car is fueled with high-quality diesel fuel (if low-quality fuel is used, the fuel injectors are the first to suffer).

Transmission

This model was equipped with manual and automatic transmissions, as well as a seven-speed DSG robot. The mechanics have proven to be the most trouble-free. But it also has its drawback - a short bearing life input shaft(130-150 thousand km). A signal about the need for replacement will be a kind of rumble in the area of the box. The clutch kit will last approximately the same amount of time. Has proven itself quite well and automatic transmission, at proper maintenance(oil change every 60,000 km) and careful operation will last 150-200 thousand km without repair (after that the valve body needs to be replaced). About reliability robotic box DSG has already been said quite a lot, and, unfortunately, the reviews are only negative, therefore, it is better to refuse to buy a used car with such a transmission.

Weaknesses of the Skoda Fabia 2 chassis

The Skoda Fabia 2 is equipped with a semi-independent suspension: MacPherson strut at the front, semi-independent beam at the rear. Such an alliance does not provide enviable controllability and comfort, at the same time, maintenance costs cannot but rejoice. If we talk about the life of the suspension, then it is difficult to call it “unkillable”. Stabilizer struts and bushings are considered consumables, their resource with careful operation does not exceed 30-40 thousand km. silent block service lines, wheel bearings(changed together with the hub), ball joints and tie rod ends rarely exceeds 80 thousand km. Approximately once every 100,000 km, you will have to change shock absorbers, support bearings (on pre-restyling versions they last 40-70 thousand km, but they can creak even after 10,000 km) and steering rods. Despite the light weight of the car, the brake pads last quite a short time - 30-40 thousand km, the discs - twice as long.

Salon

Regardless of low cost Skoda Fabia 2, it is worth noting the good quality of interior finishing materials and sound insulation. If we talk about the electrical equipment of the cabin, then, despite the fact that the car does not have a large amount of electronics, it presents surprises quite often. Most often, malfunctions occur with the seat heating system, the central locking system (stops responding to the key fob), and the hood and trunk switches, window regulators and heater fan may also malfunction (after turning off the ignition, the heater continues to work).

Result:

– a high-quality European car that captivates with its reputation as a reliable and inexpensive car to maintain. This model has many advantages, but it is not without significant drawbacks, despite this, we can confidently say that it is one of the most successful cars in the “B-class”.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you encountered while using the car. Perhaps your review will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Best regards, editor AutoAvenue

  • Depends on the condition, you can tell from the photograph that it is good, but you need to do a full diagnosis of the paintwork, internal combustion engine, and chassis of the car and check for legal purity.

I myself owned such a car, so I can say that the engine in it is a BXW, CGGB 1.4 l 86 hp. 132 Newton meters of torque at 3800 rpm. The timing drive is a belt drive and is changed at 90,000 km, in some cases earlier, depending on how you drive. The internal combustion engine is quite high-torque for such a light car. Fuel consumption in the city is 6.9 liters.

Spark plugs are changed every 30,000 km. By the way, spark plugs quickly fail if you fill with low-quality fuel, so pour only 95-grade gasoline and at proven gas stations. Fabia also drives at 92, but at 95 it is more economical and faster.

At first, if you turn on the air conditioning or climate control, the engine seems to start vibrating, then it stops. This is due to the fact that the motor is simply heavy, so there is nothing wrong with it.

It is necessary to change the oil every 10-15 thousand kilometers or once a year, as it loses its properties and turns black. The original fluid is Castrol Edge Professional 5w-30, or Shell Helix Ultra 5W30.

On the plus side, it can be noted that the car is very nimble, it’s easy to park, the engine is enough for overtaking on the highway and in the city. Low consumption fuel.

In terms of spare parts and consumables, if you buy from official dealer, then the prices will be sky-high. Fortunately, there are many consumables that you can buy, for example, on autodoc or exist - the prices there are very affordable, and you can change all this not from an official, but from a regular service center or yourself. Over 40,000 km, nothing broke, I only changed oils, filters and spark plugs.

Of the minuses, I will say that in a strong wind, if you drive along the highway, it blows away, apparently due to its low weight. Also the trunk is not that big, but rear seats They fold up, so you can fit a lot of things. There is enough space in the cabin for people of average build; if you seat large obese people in front, then there will not be enough space for them. Still, B-class cars, even slightly smaller than Solaris, Kia Rio.

The Kaluga assembly has no jambs, at least I didn’t notice. But I think the Czech one is even better.

The car is ideal for girls, but it is also suitable for guys who are not shy about small cars.

By the way, a Fabia on R15 wheels looks simply cool and more representative than on 14-inch ones.

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you to decide. And here is my review of it

  • Full of advantages - inexpensive service, many parts, parts suitable from other VAG brands.

Of the minuses, specifically for 1.4, I would note relatively high consumption fuel (in the city, due to traffic jams, about 8 liters, sometimes it reaches 10) and this engine is a little “dull” at the bottom, when compared with the 1.2
If the car is for the city, I would recommend taking a ride in a Fabia with 1.2 69 hp for comparison; for me, it’s even a little faster, inferior only on the highway at speeds of more than 120 km/h. And it has a little more advantages: 1) less tax; 2) cheaper than OSAGO (power less than 70 hp); 3) less consumption. The only thing is 1.2 chain and the chain lasts about 100 thousand km, replacement costs about 15-25 thousand rubles with spare parts. On 1.4 the belt, while driving, for some it broke off at 80t.km, some drove more than 100t.km with their original belt.

I had both Fabias, the one from 2009 had only 1 serious problem - the coil broke at 90k km, the rest was minor stuff.

    What to pay attention to:
    1) trapezoid of wipers - serves 50-60t.km, then the driver’s wiper rod falls off. Repairing without replacing the trapezoid is almost free, there is a lot of information on the forums

    2) Wiring in the driver's door - almost everyone has it. Symptoms - one of the power windows, the speaker, and sometimes the door lock does not work. You can also fix it yourself. My 2009 Fabia was fine, my 2010 Fabia had this problem.

    3) Rear drums - rear cylinders often leak. It needs to be cleaned every year, I usually do this with replacing the tires. If you don't pay attention, you end up with pads, cylinders and springs. I have all this on both of my Fabias, spare parts cost 2000-3000 rubles.

    4) Heater motor - this was before 2010 common problem, then the manufacturer changed, it seems like this problem occurs, but after 2010 it is very rare

    5) Timing belt, if for a 1.2 engine the chain is 100t.km, then replace it when it starts cold engine and if the chain is already stretched, there will be characteristic sounds of the chain beating, they cannot be confused with anything. Sometimes there were cases of slippage, but very rarely. For a 1.4 belt, it’s better not to pull it, up to a maximum of 80t.km, I think

    6) Front suspension - bushings and stabilizer struts, the parts are cheap (bushes 100-150 rubles * 2 pieces, struts 400-900 rubles * 2 pieces), but for many they live differently, on my Fabia since 2009 I have done nothing at all I didn’t change the suspension, I only changed the bushings for one thing when I changed them on the second Fabia, but they didn’t require it. Some people change it every 30,000 km. Some people don’t even ride 10,000 km. Symptoms - clanking, squeaking (especially in autumn and winter) on speed bumps. The replacement is simple, you can do it yourself.

Well, something like that, that’s all. If the car was looked after and there was no delay in servicing, then it is a very good car.

  • Of course there are many advantages, but there are also disadvantages. The motor is good and has no problems. There are problems with the lambda probes, they constantly break down and the car starts to build and consume fuel. But it can be treated by cutting out the catalysts and flashing Euro 2 firmware. The car is fast, my average consumption is 9-10, but I fly. The suspension is soft. There is a lot of space in the cabin. There are no electrical problems at all. Engine and gearbox mounts weakness, because of them the engine begins to shake. The body is galvanized, the paint is strong, my car is 7 years old and there are almost no chips, and the arches are generally perfect. I did the Shumka, the Shumka is weak, the ground clearance is good. The heater motor is a problem, it always howls and whistles, it can be cured by replacing it. The suspension is durable, my mileage is over a hundred, and I just replaced the front hub, everything else is original. Something like that.

  • The car is SUPER! I didn't even expect it. When I purchased it from the first owner and drove it from Kyiv, I thought Czech Tavria - but no! The car is very comfortable and moderately soft. When they lifted it to the service station on a lift and there was a POLO hatch hanging next to it - EPTA, it was the same carriage, only with a different body and for less money! And I personally respect Foltz!
After the Outlander XL, Maybach in general is quiet in the cabin.

1.2 is not worth taking - it is weak, you need to constantly spin it up, and it is a “disposable motor”
1.4 is just right! And due to the fact that regular MPI and not TSI - i.e. an ordinary “aspirated” engine with injectors on a rail and not directly in the cylinders, the LPG is molded with a bang! Consumption 5.8-7.0 Benz, 7.5-9.0 Gas.
1.6 "for the eyes" for this baby! The engine is old, reliable, time-tested, they are usually found on automatic machines, the consumption is correspondingly higher, the increase in dynamics is not significant because It's not TSI though...

    From "+":
    - consumption
    - comfort
    - gorgeous rulizzo
    - unpretentious service
    - German quality and thoughtfulness in everything

    From "-":
    - appearance - the car is still “womanish” a priori
    - they don’t respect you “a little” on the road, either by driving you from the left lane or by educating you
    - the kents are also “stimulating”, they say Romchik, how much can you catazza on Fabos?
    - I found practically no cons about the car except for one thing - a “rattle” in the stove body! I still can’t figure out what else could be rattling there!

  • Hello. The car is great. Pros: excellent handling, landing, good dynamics (1.4l engine), low tax, high-quality assembly, compact, normal convenient trunk, everything folds up.

Of the minuses: expensive spare parts (relative to VAZ), weak Shumka but much better than VAZ of course).

    Overall I'm very pleased.
If you buy, choose the 1.4 engine.
1.2 is also not bad, but it seems to me too weak for the highway.

I bought it because of the good price. In fact, the cost of a used one is quite expensive. If you can find a choir. don't think about the price. Well, the mileage is preferably up to 100 thousand km.

And preferably a mechanic, with DSG problems there are.
Reliability is high. The engine runs 500 t.km. without repair.
The suspension in our region is 60-70 thousand km.
You change the belt at 80 thousand km.
And so is the oil and filter.

  • Hello. Fabka 2010, mileage 90,000 km.
    Problems:
    1. 40,000 Interior heater control unit burned out cost 5.5 thousand original + 5 thousand repair panel and steering wheel removed
    2. 55,000 Burnout of the exhaust valve of cylinder 3, I ran on 95 gasoline at a proven Rostneft gas station. The repairman said because of the gasoline, the hydraulic compensators are fine, the clearance is normal, it looks like one of the 8 factory defects in general, the rest are normal. The valve was cracked in three places. I switched to Lukoil 92 gasoline. Cost 3 thousand non-original spare parts urgently needed original car expensive only to order + 8 thousand repairs not from the officials.
    3. 60,000 Water in luggage compartment The back seats are all wet. If it hadn't been screwed on, the spare tire would have floated. The illness of all Fabius depends on the time. It is easy to treat, it is not clear why such a problem has existed until now, a big minus for Skoda. It can be treated on its own, but you will have to remove the rear bumper trim, rear wheels, and rear fender liners, place a plastic ventilation grill on the sealant, to be sure between rear lights and sealed the car body with window insulation so that when water drains, it does not fall on the ventilation grille. Self-repair half a day.
    4. 70,000 replacement of timing belts, rollers, tensioners, pumps, and alternator belts. The normal thing was the pump and belts, there was play on the rollers. The cost is 10 thousand for non-original spare parts + 4 thousand for non-official repairs.
    5. 77,000 Freon leak from the air conditioning system. The officials filled it with freon and there are no leaks in 5 years, which is normal for a Fabia. Cost 2 thousand and 2 hours in the office, checking for leaks for more than an hour.
    6. 80,000 Replacement of front brake pads and discs. We could finish it up to 100 thousand, my wife mostly drives it, I don’t wait until it reaches the limit of wear and tear. Price 6.8 thousand wheels, original pads, no. Replacement is self-guided.
    7. 90,000 Replacement of rear pads and drums. The price is around 4.5 thousand, the spare parts are not original. Replacement is self-guided.
    8. 90,000 A knock appeared in the suspension when hitting speed bumps. Inspection in summer.
    9. Eternal jambs with wiring. Moreover, a friend imported a Volkswagen from Germany, the same thing. One problem in the concern.
    10. The battery does not last more than 3-4 years. Moreover, the native Bosch from Germany is 45 A, Russian 60 A, there is no difference. The car is crammed with electronics; the on-board voltage is not enough to charge the battery for trips of less than 15 km. When traveling 5 km to school, kindergarten, or store, the battery is discharged when the engine is started. Even autumn and spring recharging of the battery after 3 years does not save the situation. You risk not starting in winter at -25 degrees. Replacing the battery will save you.
    Pros:
Any machine has disadvantages, there is no perfection, so that having achieved one, a person wants more.
There are also advantages, of course the price is a little expensive for such a baby, but after the Lada, which my wife didn’t want to drive with Fabia, she even refuses to part with it. Equipment: sport, sport + up to equipped. Leather steering wheel three-spoke, front seat side supports, short passes speeds at 5 from 47 km and beyond that on highways it’s like an automatic machine (in the city you’ll have to switch more often), stiff suspension, whatever I like to drive. It would take a long time to list one thing that speaks for itself: the drive was 970 km, we drove in a convoy of several cars, 16 hours behind the wheel, stops to go to the toilet and have a snack, no more than 20 minutes, not often. We drove at night + light, headlights with an adjustable lens are good and fog lights, low gasoline consumption achieved 5.2 liters per 100 km. comfortable ride even for 6 hours without a smoke break. The ability to install a two-din radio with a video function is a good distraction for children. Upon arrival after 16 hours of travel, for the first time I did not want to get out of the car.

    1. Anti-corrosion treatment (protection of the bottom with plastic) 7 years on the street there are no signs of even bugs. I haven’t touched the car myself with Movil or any other crap.
    2. Stainless steel silencers after Lada cars you will understand.
    3. The 1.4 engine is good and fast enough for up to 140 km on the highway. And most importantly, it is repairable.
    4. Not bad sound insulation. You can’t hear the engine, summer wheels depend on the tires, you can’t hear my summer Bridgestones, but you can hear winter studs, but in winter it’s not good.
    5. Not a bad assembly, although Kaluzhskaya, no creaks of bugs were found in the cabin unless something was loose in the trunk.
    6. Pretty reliable car For all the time I let you down once; we go almost every day. — 28 degrees outside, the battery couldn’t handle it. Even with a burnt out valve it started and drove.
In general, I could go on for a long time about ground clearance and other design advantages, I’m tired, I don’t regret purchasing this car. After the VAZ cars, the super valve failed. My friend Kalin is much worse.

  • Good afternoon. I decided to write about my Skoda Fabia. I own this car 1.4 16kL, sport comfort equipment, 2011, manual transmission, currently the mileage is 64,000 km. and so about the advantages - driver's seat and the front seats are a good plus, the seating position is excellent, comfortable, every year my wife and I drive south, 1500 km one way with normal, my back doesn’t die. It steers with a bang, the headlight optics are good, the lenses are good. even surprisingly fast, overtaking on the highway is quite possible. One time I accelerated to 190 km on a toll road, followed by a friend driving a Volvo, the speedometer readings were the same. The air conditioner handles the heat, it was a great help in Crimea, it doesn’t rust at all. good parking. There are no problems with the suspension. The consumption is acceptable. these are all advantages. There are enough minuses. and so let's start - DRL bulbs are replaced very regularly, a month and a half is enough, of course the bulbs may be bullshit. ABS in winter is something, it doesn’t slow down at all, although it’s good in summer. glitches in the driver's window lifter periodically, water in the spare tire in the trunk from time to time, low overhang of the front bumper, when replacing the factory engine protection with a normal metal one, a hum from the power steering appeared in the cabin, and the Skoda has an electro-hydraulic power steering, periodically lights up on the panel in winter ABS icon, then the truth disappears, once at minus 30 the steering wheel icon on the panel lit up, the amplifier turned off, although after 20 minutes of warming up everything started working again. the other day there was a total disaster, when starting off at a traffic light, 1st gear disappeared, then it’s gone, all the others turn on, so I started in second, went to the service center, they stupidly pulled the cable and sprayed it with water, magic and that’s all, everything works again . Now about breakdowns and replacements - approximately 45,000 km, replacement of the air conditioner radiator, it was stupidly eaten away by reagents from our roads, anyone interested even has a photo, before that, at 30,000 km, the coolant pressure sensor was replaced, it started leaking. 60,000 km, replacing the timing belt together with the pump, a whistle appeared, so I decided not to risk it, by the way, the pump was like new when replaced, I even regret that I changed it. the hum of the stove motor, not much. Now there are problems with the air conditioner again, it gives an error - increased level signal from the refrigerant pressure sensor, this sensor was replaced again, the air conditioner temperature sensor was also replaced, the same one in the panel in the cabin. There is zero effect, the air conditioner lives its own life. I'll try to relieve the pressure a little. Spare parts if the original is very expensive, but there are plenty of analogues, in particular, many are suitable from the Seat Ibiza. I'll drive it for another year and the car will need to be replaced. for the very smart, this is not the first car, almost 10 years of experience. My literacy is bad, I apologize. By the way, I feel like I'm about to replace the trapezoid... the windshield wiper blade is hanging loose, I'm not the only one who looked on the forums. Would you buy it a second time? NO. and also, gasoline 95, at 92 it is dull. according to oil Pans 0w30 or 0w40, does not waste, from replacement to replacement it takes about 150g per topping up, I change it every 8-10k. good luck to all.
