Which is better Renault or Toyota. Toyota Corolla and Renault Fluence are kings of the class

08.07.2020

About thirty years ago, the famous American manager Lee Iacocca said that by the beginning of the 21st century only a few players will remain on the global automotive market. The ex-president of Chrysler and Ford saw through and through the trends in the further development of the auto industry, so it is not surprising that his predictions are confirmed.

The world's largest auto concerns and alliances

At first glance, it may seem that there are many independent car manufacturers in the world, but in fact, most car companies belong to various groups and alliances.

Thus, Lee Iacocca looked into the water, and today there are actually only a few automakers left in the world, having divided the entire world car market among themselves.

What brands belong to Ford

Interestingly, the companies he headed - Chrysler and Ford - the leaders of the American car industry, suffered the most serious losses during the economic crisis. And they had never been in such serious trouble before. Chrysler and General Motors went bankrupt, and only a miracle saved Ford. But for this miracle, the company had to pay too high a price, because as a result, Ford lost its premium division Premiere Automotive Group, which included Land rover, Volvo and Jaguar. Moreover, Ford lost Aston Martin, the British supercar manufacturer, a controlling stake in Mazda and liquidated the Mercury brand. And today only two brands remain from the huge empire - Lincoln and Ford itself.

What brands belong to General Motors

General Motors suffered equally serious losses. The American company lost Saturn, Hummer, SAAB, but its bankruptcy still did not prevent it from defending the Opel and Daewoo brands. Today, General Motors has brands such as Vauxhall, Holden, GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick. In addition, the Americans own the Russian joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ, which produces the Chevrolet Niva.

Carmaker Fiat and Chrysler

And the American concern Chrysler now acts as a strategic partner of Fiat, which has gathered under its wing such brands as Ram, Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo.

In Europe, things are a little different than in the United States. Here the crisis has also made its own adjustments, but the position of the monsters of the European car industry has not been shaken by this.

What brands belong to the Volkswagen Group

Volkswagen is still accumulating brands. After buying Porsche in 2009, the Volkswagen Group has nine brands - Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley, Porsche, Audi, truck manufacturer Scania and VW itself. There is information that Suzuki will soon be included in this list, 20 percent of which is already owned by the Volkswagen Group.

Brands owned by Daimler AG and BMW Group

As for the other two "Germans" - BMW and Daimler AG, they cannot boast of such an abundance of brands. Under the wing of Daimler AG there are Smart, Maybach and Mercedes brands, and BMW history includes the Mini and Rolls-Royce companies.

Renault and Nissan Automotive Alliance

Among the world's largest automakers, one cannot fail to mention the Renault-Nissan alliance, which owns brands such as Samsung, Infiniti, Nissan, Dacia and Renault. In addition, Renault owns 25 percent of AvtoVAZ shares, so Lada is also not an independent brand from the French-Japanese alliance.

Another major French carmaker, PSA, owns Peugeot and Citroen.

Japanese carmaker Toyota

And among Japanese automakers, only Toyota, which owns Subaru, Daihatsu, Scion and Lexus, can boast of a "collection" of brands. Also in the Toyota Motor is the truck manufacturer Hino.

Who Owns Honda

Honda's accomplishments are more modest. Apart from the motorcycle department and the premium Acura brand, the Japanese have nothing else.

Successful auto alliance Hyundai-Kia

In recent years, the Hyundai-Kia alliance has been successfully breaking through to the list of leaders in the global automotive industry. Today he makes cars only under by Kia brands and Hyundai, but Koreans are already getting serious about creating a premium brand that could be called Genesis.

Among the acquisitions and mergers of recent years should be mentioned the transition under the wing Chinese Geely Volvo brands and the acquisition of British premium brands Land Rover and Jaguar by the Indian company Tata. And even the most curious case is the purchase of the famous Swedish brand SAAB by the tiny Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker.

The once powerful British auto industry has made a long life. All prominent British car manufacturers have long since lost their independence. Their example was followed by small English firms, which passed to foreign owners. In particular, the legendary Lotus today belongs to the Proton company (Malaysia), and the Chinese SAIC bought MG. By the way, the same SAIC previously sold the Korean SsangYong Motor to the Indian Mahindra & Mahindra.

All these strategic partnerships, alliances, mergers and acquisitions once again proved Lee Iacocchi's right. Solitary firms in the modern world are no longer able to survive. Yes, there are exceptions, like the Japanese Mitsuoka, the English Morgan or the Malaysian Proton. But these companies are independent only in the sense that absolutely nothing depends on them.

And in order to have annual sales of hundreds of thousands of cars, not to mention millions, one cannot do without a strong "rear". In the Renault-Nissan alliance, partners provide support to each other, and in the Volkswagen Group, mutual support is provided by the number of brands.

As for such companies as Mitsubishi and Mazda, they will face more and more difficulties in the future. While Mitsubishi can get help from partners from PSA, Mazda will have to survive alone, which in the modern world is becoming more difficult every day ...

Nissan or Toyota? Peugeot or Renault? For the Japanese, as well as for the French, these questions are akin to the dilemma faced by the citizens of the USSR who dreamed of a car thirty or forty years ago: Moskvich or Zhiguli? And if Moskvich, then Moscow or Izhevsk?
Thank God, the choice is wider not only for the French or Japanese, but also for us; but how to get away from nostalgic associations if the newcomer, the Nissan Sentra sedan, is assembled in Izhevsk, and Renault fluence- in Moscow? And the Peugeot 408 is made in Russia, or rather, in Kaluga. Only Toyota Corolla from Turkey. But all test participants are united by the "format" of power units: 1.6 naturally aspirated gasoline engines paired with automatic transmissions (Peugeot has a four-speed "hydromechanics", and the rest have CVTs).

The Nissan Sentra is a dark horse that has just replaced the plain Tiida sedan. It is based on an elongated Nissan V platform, on which, for example, the Nissan Micra and Nissan juke... The latter also borrowed a power unit - a 117-horsepower engine paired with a variator. By the way, in other countries the car was introduced a couple of years ago - and is also sold under the names Sylphy or Pulsar.

The expressive exterior hides an equally expressive well-tuned chassis.

The Sentra is similar in style to the older model Nissan teana, and in terms of clearance (180 mm) - by crossover Nissan Qashqai

0 / 0

Externally, the Nissan Sentra claims to be the most attractive car in its segment. Wavy plastic front fenders, a radiator grille in the spirit of Infiniti, headlights "dovetail" ... There are much more "catchy" elements, details than Renault or Peugeot. A Toyota Corolla looks very brutal. In a word, if we, as in the old years, put up marks for the appearance of cars, Nissan would have received the most points.

And the salon is pleasant! Extremely intelligible instruments with white numbers, a steering wheel with music and cruise control buttons, the front panel is trimmed with soft plastic, there are embossed metal inserts. The good location of the controls and the most comfortable - with the most pronounced lateral support - the chair are also pleasing. Nissan is also distinguished by a high seating position behind the wheel: even if you lower the seat with the handle-jack to the lower position, you find yourself higher than in other cars. For active driving, maybe a minus, but in the city "commander" landing improves visibility. Add to this the largest exterior mirrors and a rear-view camera (installed starting from the Elegance Connect configuration) - and, without taking our eyes off the road, take Nissan to first place in the Visibility category. The camera, by the way, is also available upon purchase. Toyota cars Corolla and Renault Fluence. But the Peugeot 408, even in the most expensive configuration, has only parking sensors.

Of the seven package bundles, only the top-end Tekna offers leather upholstery for the seats and steering wheel, cruise control, xenon headlights and side curtains.

Of course, luxurious equipment (and go find other versions in the press parks, although the manufacturers themselves do not tire of urging us to be "closer to the people"!) Affect the perception of the car. For example, if in basic configuration Welcome (679 thousand rubles at the time of the test) The center is only equipped with audio preparation in the form of four speakers, while the top Tekna version (914 thousand) already flaunts a color touchscreen display of the Nissan Connect multimedia system with navigation on the front panel. A similar picture is with other machines.

The seat has well-defined lateral support and ample adjustment ranges

In the two initial configurations - air conditioning, in the rest - dual-zone climate control with convenient controls

0 / 0

In terms of ergonomics, Toyota and Renault are inferior to Nissan. Toyota is not so comfortable chair, blue backlight instruments and buttons on the center console are beautiful, but by no means conducive to the perception of information. In Renault, according to the French tradition, the steering wheel together with the instruments are located more gently, which makes it more difficult to find the optimal fit. It seems to have already settled down normally, but when you turn the steering wheel you have to reach for the upper part of it. - The seat is soft, amorphous - without pronounced lateral support. And in the end, after several hours of driving, the back gets more tired than in other cars - even despite the adjustment of the lumbar support, which is not in the other three cars.

Nice and perfectly readable instruments

The menu of the Nissan Connect multimedia system has everything you need, but the 14 cm screen is too small - the navigation maps are poorly read on it

The wide-angle rear-view camera distorts the image too much - and the static lines are almost of no help

The variator pleases with responsive operation in normal mode, but there is also an "active" Sport - it is turned on with a button on the side of the selector

In the "base" - mirrors with electric drive and heating, but the button for folding the mirrors is only in expensive versions

The communication with the R-Link multi-media system did not cause delight either. At first glance, it is better than that of Nissan: the screen is larger, nice graphics, there is voice control. But using a Bluetooth-connected phone in Renault is troublesome: for example, searching for contacts in the address book takes too much time, as well as entering an address in the navigation system. The process can be accelerated by pressing with your fingers on the touch screen, but reaching so far that it is not safe to move.

0 / 0

Compared to competitors, the interior of the Peugeot 408 seems old-fashioned: monochrome screens with primitive graphics, faded instruments, poorly readable numbers. The steering wheel is too big in diameter, and besides, as in Renault, it is a little littered with the windshield. Even with adjustments in two directions, not everyone managed to find a comfortable fit. And in motion it was not easy to aim and hit the tiny buttons on the center console. The audio display is like an old tube TV. However, a modern "TV" or, more precisely, an optional Phantom audio system with a 7-inch touchscreen display and navigation can be ordered for Peugeot, paying an additional 37 thousand rubles.

Peugeot's visibility was not impressed either. The rearward-facing exterior mirrors force the driver to twist his head, and the smaller his height, the more acutely this disadvantage is felt.

In the dark, the numbers with blue backlighting tend to hurt your eyes rather than convey information.

Toyota's multimedia system - no navigation, but the graphics and menu logic are flawless

S-class sedans have long been chosen by taxi drivers: spacious rear seats, large trunks… Imagining ourselves in the role of taxi passengers, my colleagues and I took a ride in each car. We liked the Nissan Sentra more than others: the rear doors open very wide, and the reserve of legroom is the greatest; so much space that with my height of 190 cm I sit "by myself" - and between my knees and back front seat there are still three to four centimeters left. And finally, there are air vents for the rear passengers (the same can boast of Peugeot and Renault).

Passengers in Corolla and Fluence will feel a little less comfortable: less legroom, especially in Renault. But only Renault showed sun blinds on the side windows, which is a rarity for cars of this class.

The layout of the front panel visually expands the vehicle interior

Unlike colleagues who in the past comparative test considered that the rear passengers in Peugeot are more comfortable than in Renault (AP # 18, 2013), I would prefer Renault. I agree, with plenty of room for rear seats Peugeot is fine, but it seems to have escaped the attention of colleagues that the Peugeot 408 is more difficult to sit down due to the high threshold and difficult molded floor. There is a lot of knee room, but there is nowhere to put your feet. And not only because the size of my shoes is 45. Yuri Kuznetsov is 40, but he is also uncomfortable. So we will lower the estimate this time.

The seats are soft, the range of longitudinal adjustment is limited - drivers taller than 190 cm are already uncomfortable

The buttons on the console are large - you won't miss!

0 / 0

And the trunks? We filled them with our "measuring" balls and found out that the owner of the most voluminous - Nissan Sentra: 674 liters! However, this is not a reason to reproach other cars with a weak "cargo" potential: from 573 to 609 liters. And in every underground - full-size spare wheels!

The sockets and buttons for the seat heating are hidden under a cover in the base of the center console

The armrest box consists of two compartments: the main one and a small additional one in the lid

Toyota's CVT tries to mimic gear changes, but throttle responses are still too sluggish. Sport mode only partially corrects the situation, raising the engine speed by 800-1000 rpm (versus 2000 rpm for Nissan)

0 / 0

Fortunately, the snow at the end of November has not yet fallen, and this allowed us to work closely on the dynamometric road - however, excluding measurements from the program braking distance: Three out of four cars were on studded tires. For the same reason, we abandoned our "counter-emergency maneuvers".

Toyota scored a hundred faster than others, but Nissan received a higher score for accelerating dynamics. Yes, he is almost half a second behind Toyo-you, but how great are the responses to the accelerator! And you switch to Sport mode - and the responses become even more active. However, all this activity is like dust in the eyes: the power is not high! And the presence of the L mode, when, when driving at low speed, the engine runs at increased revs, neither to the village nor to the city - why is this to an ordinary sedan? For off-road driving?

Nissan Sentra. The most spacious glove compartments are offered by Nissan and Peugeot, and Peugeot also has an organizer in the lid.

Toyota Corolla. The most spacious glove compartments are offered by Nissan and Peugeot, and Peugeot also has an organizer in the lid.

Curiously, the Corolla, despite the results of measurements, is perceived as a less frisky car. The throttle response is much calmer, and even the Sport mode can be safely renamed Comfort. And yet we did not immediately "decipher" the stepwise variator algorithm. If you push the gas to the floor (kick-down), then the Corolla will accelerate "on one note", that is, the engine will keep about 6000 rpm all the time. But if you release the pedal a little, then you can notice that the variator now simulates gear changes. But he does it very unobtrusively - in normal modes it is perceived rather as a usual smooth change in the gear ratio of the variator depending on the load. For a quiet ride - quite, but if you want something more - and Toyota will not support.

Peugeot 408 is one of the few cars of the brand, in the refinement of which priority was given not to handling, but to smoothness.

Behind the fast-paced appearance, ordinary dynamics and controllability are hidden

0 / 0

As well as Renault Fluence: here the limit possibilities are even more modest. In moderate modes, everything is expected to be smooth, but you step more sharply - and at first the cabin will be filled with the roar of the engine, and only after a second or two the speed will start to grow smoothly. The same annoying hitch - and when trying to accelerate after braking. For example, in front of a speed bump you have already besieged, passed him, add gas, but Fluence still "slows down".

Peugeot's interior looks outdated compared to competitors

"Odd" digitization of the speedometer and thin print complicate the perception of information

Average gas mileage for Peugeot with automatic transmission is 9.6 l / 100 km. The rest of the cars are with CVTs and, on average, are more economical per liter: both according to the passport and according to our observations

0 / 0

Peugeot with its old four-speed "automatic" reacts to gas with less delays, but the acceleration itself is very sluggish: a set of "hundreds" lasts longer than 13 seconds!

The seat is not the best shape, but the adjustment ranges are sufficient

Such small buttons on the center console are an anachronism. It's good that the main functions of "music" can be controlled from the steering wheel control.

0 / 0

We had no serious complaints about the brakes of all cars. But in extreme modes, when the ABS is already crackling, Peugeot, on its soft suspension, falls harder than others on the front wheels and prowls a little. And Nissan, due to the high sensitivity of the drive, will require getting used to during regular braking: at first, too often it was necessary to nod off - not so much the car (according to our observations, the tendency to roll longitudinally in Nissan is minimal), but rather us. On the other hand, in a critical situation, this setting allows you to quickly reach the maximum deceleration.

The box in the armrest is small, there is a USB port inside

Due to the fault of the ancient four-speed "automatic" Peugeot 408 loses almost three seconds in acceleration to hundreds of the same car with "mechanics"

0 / 0

Nissan was also pleased with its handling: from our quartet only he caused the desire to go through the corner at the limit. In addition, it made it possible to completely turn off the stabilization system, which with such a chassis setting is quite justified: the car is perfectly controlled in sliding. True, we were puzzled by the flashing control light. Something is wrong? Everything is so - and even better! We read in the instructions: “When the VDC is turned off, the system continues to function in order to prevent slipping of one wheel by transferring torque to the non-slipping drive wheel. All other VDC functions are disabled. " That is, the electronics take on the role of a differential lock, helping to pull the car out of the skid with a thrust and pick up speed faster. Respect!

Nissan Sentra. The most spacious rear seats are in Nissan. In Peugeot 408, the situation is spoiled by the backrests piled back and the shape of the floor "pressing" the feet. Renault doesn't have much knee room, but the windows have sun blinds

On Toyota, the stabilization system is also turned off completely, but that excitement is gone. There is reliability, high stability when driving in a straight line, expected steering response. But the steering wheel itself is not so "clean" in terms of effort, there are more rolls in corners. The handling of Peugeot and Renault is even less emotional: the impression of Renault is spoiled by the “empty”, but at the same time very “sharp” steering wheel. We did not have any complaints about the Peugeot steering itself, but it makes itself felt in the corners soft suspension- with active driving, confidence drops.

But how comfortable Peugeot is in all other modes: the car does not drive - it floats!

Fluence in translation from English is a stream. But with this power unit it is not easy to stay in heavy traffic

0 / 0

Toyota's suspension is a little denser, it already shakes on small irregularities, but in general the Corolla leaves the impression of more assembled car than the Peugeot 408.

The Fluence, if on base 15-inch tires, would have been on par with Toyota, but the 17-inch wheels tarnished its reputation as a "smooth" car. Although on the waves of asphalt, Renault demonstrates the same level of comfort as Toyota. What can not be said about Nissan - this one finds short waves and shakes finely on a seemingly absolutely smooth roads... And reacts to small joints no better than Renault. Well, for gambling handling, as usual, you have to pay off with a smooth ride.

You quickly get used to the Renault digital speedometer: the symbols are large and do not flicker

R-Link multimedia system allows you to view photo and video files

A reversing camera is an option even for top-end configuration Expression. But the graphic parking sensors are included in the "average" Limited Edition package.

0 / 0

In terms of acoustic comfort, Nissan and Renault lose to their competitors: in the Center, the overall noise level in the cabin is slightly higher, and when driving on a muddy road, the drum roll of pebbles is heard more than in other cars. And in Renault the engine howls.

Yes, Nissan's comfort is not all right. But why then did both Divakov and Tsyplenkov leave the driver's seat with a smile? So Podorozhansky, having taken a ride on the Center, first of all asked: "It seemed to me, or is the chassis really set up cool?" Didn't seem! If you choose a car from our competitors with an eye to the pleasure of active driving, then this is the Nissan Sentra. Yes, even with a 1.6 engine! Fortunately, the advantages of Sentra are by no means limited to this, and therefore - a well-deserved victory in the test!

A fair tilt of the steering wheel to the instruments makes it difficult to find the optimal fit

You also enjoy driving a Toyota, but of a different kind - from a comfortable, measured movement. Second place.

L-shaped head restraints obsessively rest against the back of the head even when folded - and if you "open" them, you will have to sit with your head bent

The screen is so far away that neither the driver nor the front passenger can use its touch controls normally

0 / 0

The impression from Peugeot was spoiled most of all by the acceleration dynamics, and Renault was not brought by the best steering settings and flaws in ergonomics.

P.S. In addition to the Nissan Sentra sedan, a soplatform hatchback, which is already sold in Europe under the name Nissan Pulsar, will soon appear in Russia - camouflaged cars roam along our roads. We will tell you about it shortly.

Fluence is more saturated with electronics than others: only it has an electromechanical parking brake, and only Renault, with a hands-free chip card, automatically locks the locks if the driver with this chip card moves away a couple of meters from the car

Fluence responds with delays to the accelerator - especially after braking. You can get rid of this only by switching to the manual mode of switching pseudo-gears

Nissan Sentra. In terms of area, the mirrors do not differ much, but still they are larger for Nissan. In Renault, a large distorting section interferes with the view, and in Peugeot - the very arrangement of the mirrors: they are shifted back, and, using them, you have to turn your head more

Heating salons

All cars have dual-zone climate controls. We carried out test warming up of the salons and found out that the "warmest" cars are Toyota and Peugeot - at the end of the measurements they have a higher average temperature in the cabin. This is confirmed by subjective impressions during driving - especially in Renault, in which the temperature set on the display must be kept a couple of degrees higher than in other cars.

Safety

Peugeot 408, Renault Fluence and Toyota Corolla in the "base" have only two airbags, ABS, Isofix mountings, pretensioners and front seat belt force limiters. Nissan Sentra is devoid of force limiters, but already in the "base" it has a stabilization system, which for the rest of the trinity is offered for an extra charge. On the list of options, all sedans have side airbags for the front riders, and curtains are offered only for Renault, Nissan and Toyota.

Nissan Sentra and Toyota Corolla have passed crash tests in the USA according to the method of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Both sedans earned the highest green marks in all disciplines, except for the frontal impact on the low overlap indestructible barrier (25%). In this type of tests, the picture turned out to be similar: violation of the body structure, significant (by 320-340 mm) reduction in the width of the doorway, displacement of the front panel into the cabin by 200-220 mm, and the floor - by 170 mm. The steering wheel in both sedans moved into the passenger compartment and tilted to the right, causing the heads of the dummies to slide off the airbag. But if in Corolla the safety curtain successfully "accepted" the head, then in the Center it did not help either: the criterion of head injury in the "driver" of Nissan is more than twice as high (344 versus 154). But for less tough Euro method NCAP Toyota Corolla has become a round excellent student: five stars.

The Peugeot 408 was tested in China using the 2009 edition of the C-NCAP method: a frontal impact on a concrete wall at 50 km / h, a frontal impact on a collapsible barrier with 40% overlap at 56 km / h and a side impact. The four-door has earned five stars, adequately protecting the front "riders", although there were increased loads on the chest in all types of tests.

Renault Fluence in the basic version with two airbags underwent a Latin NCAP crash test, which involves only one impact at a speed of 64 km / h from the driver's side of the front end into a deformable barrier with 40 percent overlap. Despite the absence of pretensioners, Fluence performed even slightly better than the electric-powered Euro analog Fluence ZE: 11.97 against 9.8 points and four stars out of five. Only the overly hard center console, which can injure the knees of the driver and front passenger, on impact, caused complaints from the Latin Americans. And for the safety of child passengers, the South American Fluence earned two stars out of five, and the sedan received the main fine due to the lack of warning signs in the cabin.

The diagram shows the ratio of the most important, but sometimes conflicting qualities of cars - dynamics and comfort. For clarity, we have highlighted three zones: red (the car does not meet the consumer's requirements), yellow (mostly satisfies) and green (fully satisfies). Axis Dynamics is graduated as a percentage of the maximum possible peer review, which consists of three components: acceleration, deceleration and handling. The same situation with the Comfort axle (estimates for ride comfort, vibration protection and acoustic comfort are taken into account)

How much? *

Nissan Sentra (1.6 l, 117 hp) with a CVT costs at least 734 thousand rubles, and in the initial Comfort version there are two airbags, a stabilization system, air conditioning, heated front seats and a CD player. The top version of Tekna for 914 thousand rubles has been in our hands - with six airbags, leather interior, climate control, xenon headlights, navigator, rear view camera, engine start button, alloy wheels and light and rain sensors. The simplest Sentra with "mechanics" is offered for 679 thousand rubles, and more powerful versions should appear only by the end of the year.

Peugeot 408 with an aspirated 1.6 (120 hp) and "automatic" can be bought for 744 thousand rubles - it will be a sedan in a "profitable" configuration Style, which includes two airbags, ESP, climate control, power accessories, heated front seats and lower part windshield... But the test was attended by a Peugeot 408 of 2013 in a simpler version of Active, which is estimated at at least 749 thousand rubles, and taking into account the installed options (climate control, heating the bottom of the windshield, headlight washer and metallic paint) it costs 781 thousand. Base sedan with a 1.6 engine (115 hp) and "mechanics" is offered for 584 thousand rubles, a version with a 1.6 turbo engine (150 hp) and a six-speed "automatic" is estimated at 808 thousand, and there is also a modification with a 1.6 HDi turbodiesel ( 112 hp) for 704 thousand rubles.

Toyota Corolla 1.6 (122 hp) with a CVT costs at least 766 thousand rubles. The basic version of the Classic has four airbags, ABS, air conditioning and heated front seats, but you will have to pay extra for the audio system and rear power windows. A sedan with this gentleman's set and alloy wheels will cost 800 thousand, and our Corolla in the Style Plus configuration with six airbags, ESP, climate control, heated lower windshield and a rear-view camera costs 870 thousand rubles. The simplest Corolla 1.3 (99 hp) is offered for 680 thousand rubles, a sedan with a 1.6 engine (122 hp) and "mechanics" can be bought for 729 thousand, and the top version with a 1.8 engine (140 hp) .) and a variator will cost at least 830 thousand rubles.

For Renault Fluence 1.6 (114 hp) with a variator they ask for at least 770 thousand rubles, but in the initial version of the Confort there are four airbags, ABS, air conditioning, heated front seats, full power accessories and an audio system. A sedan in the maximum configuration Expression for 926 thousand rubles has been in our hands - with curtains of safety, ESP, climate control, xenon headlights, a "Free hands" chip card, light and rain sensors, a rear view camera, a navigator, alloy wheels and a rear parking sensors. The base Fluence 1.6 (106 hp) with "mechanics" costs 685 thousand, and the version with the 2.0 engine (137 hp) - at least 812 thousand rubles.

The warranty for all cars is three years or 100,000 km.

Ownership cost during the year *

In terms of ownership costs in the first year of operation, our cars were divided into groups based on ethnicity: Japanese cars require a third more for their maintenance than French ones. And this applies to both the costs of Maintenance(the most expensive - for Toyota, on which, like the Peugeot 408, you need to visit a service station every 10 thousand kilometers versus 15 thousand kilometers for others), and the cost of insurance - CASCO. Prices are likely to rise this year, but the proportions are likely to remain the same.

Markdown

How much will our machines lose in value after the end of the three-year warranty period, when the markdown is most intense?

Most coveted in the aftermarket, the Toyota Corolla has long earned a reputation as one of the most reliable vehicles in its class. Therefore, the Corolla is getting cheaper than the others: three-year-old cars lose up to 30% of their retail price, or an average of 7-10% per year.

Nissan Sentra is a newcomer to our market. But judging by the Tiida model that passed the baton, it will feel good in the secondary market: the annual reduction in price can be 9-11%, that is, no more than 27-33% in three years.

Peugeot 408 and Renault Fluenсe cannot boast of outstanding resale popularity, therefore, the dynamics of the markdown is higher than that of both "Japanese", and Peugeot and Renault lose about the same in price - at least 12% annually, or from 36% in three years.

Alternative

The choice of two-pedal golf-class sedans with a price of up to a million rubles is great - more than twenty models.

These delays are even greater in Renault, and Peugeot with its “automatic” accelerates sluggishly in all modes. Only Peugeot has a claim to the brakes: with active deceleration while changing lanes, the car rolls noticeably, the braking efficiency drops. On the eve of this test, we asked the visitors of the website www.site to answer the question: "Which of the cars participating in the next Autoreview test would you prefer?"

Sergei:
Corolla is scary and expensive. Sentra looks the best, but the stunted engine spoils everything and the price is high.
Fluence with a normal two-liter engine is also expensive, and from the outside it looks like a dull seal. Peugeot outwardly "will endure - fall in love", but you can buy it with a decent 1.6 THP engine (150 hp) and a six-speed "automatic", and for the same money as the weak Corolla and Sentra.
My vote is for Peugeot 408, although if I were faced with a choice similar car would take Octavia.

Alexei:
He voted for Nissan - the most modern car and, most importantly, with a CVT instead of an automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the test is an old Peugeot 408, although a new model is already on sale in China. The biggest disadvantage of Renault is the acceleration dynamics with the base engine. Toyota will be bought by those who want legendary reliability and who don't care about design. And for myself, I would take Octavia - the most the best option in the golf class, although the price tag for good equipment is obscenely high.

Kirill:
Renault Fluence - good car for a reasonable price. Although I have a wary attitude to the brands Nissan and Renault. Peugeot is moderately pleasant, but loses in price almost like a Chinese car. Therefore, the choice with a calculator in hand is Toyota Corolla. Yes, it is more expensive, yes, frequent TO. But, on the other hand, it is the predicted resource of components and assemblies and minimal losses during the sale.

Denis:
I drive a Corolla and I don’t know any problems: after running 73 thousand km, I changed the front brake pads- that's all! My car has a 1.8 engine, gas mileage, depending on driving style and temperature overboard, from 7 to 12 l / 100 km. For some, this is a "horse" expense, but for me it is normal: I live in Surgut, yesterday we had minus 38, and Toyota, as always, did not disappoint! I vote for Toyota - a reliable and comfortable car!
But the Peugeot showroom in Surgut was recently closed as unnecessary ...

Ilya:
The new Sentra "statically" is not bad, but why does it have a puny aspirated even in the top version? And this abundance of cheap silver plastic in front of the driver? Fluence is subjectively more interesting (with the exception of the front panel design) and objectively more dynamic, but only if with a two-liter engine. The old Peugeot 408 did not seem handsome before, but now he is like a dinosaur in the stream. But practical, spacious, not too expensive, even with a 150-horsepower turbo engine and automatic transmission. It is a pity, it will not work out: no xenon, no leather. Therefore, I voted for Corolla, but rather out of despair. The prices are "Japanese" - in contrast to the build quality, the choice of options is meager, not a single bright competitive advantage. Balanced mediocrity. But perhaps this is the optimum?

Dmitriy:
In short, Toyota is Toyota.
And if you think about it ... the French (Renault, Peugeot), and Nissan who joined them, for last years convinced me that more or less adequate machines in terms of price / quality ratio are capable of producing only in the lowest price segment. This is not degradation, this is a branch of evolution. Trust the engineer: doing well and cheaply is much more difficult than doing well and expensive. That is why Logan has been tearing everyone up for years for operational trouble-free operation in our conditions.
As for the current applicants, in the conditions of our economic catastrophe, if we take an expensive item, then you need to be 146% confident in its stable quality and resale liquidity. And if so, then look, as they say, point one.

Anton:
For almost two years and 60 thousand km I have been using a Peugeot 408 with a diesel engine. I will vote for it now: high-torque, economical and reliable motor, good handling, suspension, Shumka. But for a city in congestion, this is not the best option... If there is a need for automatic transmission, then I'll take a closer look at the two-liter Fluence with a variator. Why not a turbo Peugeot 408 with a "automatic"? According to mechanics with a branded service station, this motor is still unreliable, it is not uncommon - repairs to 70 thousand km. I love the Toyota design, but the 1.8 CVT costs almost as much as the Camry. But Nissan with a 1.6 engine and a CVT, I'm afraid, will go very sadly.

Michael:
I wanted to put a tick in front of Sentra, but changed my mind and voted for Renault Fluence - a proven car in which I like the interior, with the exception of the digital speedometer. Sentra, probably, will be more impressive - a kind of reduced Teana, but ... This is a new model, these are expensive Nissan service and spare parts (and therefore CASCO), a weak paintwork and low corrosion resistance (I met rust on X-Trails and Nout, do not forget and about your resource Almera). And a 117 hp engine. rather weak for such a machine.
Toyota has expensive insurance and maintenance. Interior and exterior - not for everybody. And the price is high. Among the advantages is high liquidity.
Peugeot, apparently, will lose, especially with the notorious "automatic" AL4. And the accelerated life test in Auto Review showed that this car is not the top of reliability, there are also design mistakes.

Compact sedans are not the most popular cars in civilized Europe, where car enthusiasts prefer hatchbacks and station wagons. In Russia and a number of other countries with a developing car market, the public has not yet tasted the beauty of station wagons, considering sedans to be more prestigious. Manufacturers have adapted to preferences and offer modern compact sedans that are not much inferior in size to the middle class. A typical example of Renault Fluence: having a length of 4.62 meters, it is actually 7 centimeters longer than the compact Megane Break station wagon, on the platform of which it is built.

The French model is now under serious pressure from a serious competitor that has sold 40 million copies over its 47-year career - the Toyota Corolla. IN Western Europe The Corolla is less popular, however, worldwide it is not only the best-selling compact sedan, but also one of the best-selling cars. Both rivals are equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a stepless variator.

Compared sedans have the same length, but different interior dimensions: manufacturers used the space differently. The French paid more attention to the trunk: its 530 liters are optimal even for middle-class models.

In contrast, the Japanese decided to do away with the "legend of cars for small people" and provided generous space for rear passengers. The trunk of the Corolla is only 452 liters, but there is much more space in the knees than in Fluence. The headroom in both models is about the same: it is quite enough for tall people.

The 40:60 folding Fluence rear seat is annoying with unnecessary maneuvers during transformation: to get a flat floor, you need to remove the head restraints and raise the sofa cushion. In addition, the body structure does not allow a normal through span to be obtained when the back of the rear sofa is folded down - the opening is too narrow.

In Corolla, folding the sofa is much easier, and the organization of the cargo area is more practical, even despite the large volume occupied by the wheel arches.

After the restyling, Fluence received the best quality interior materials, which contributed to the creation of a pleasant atmosphere. Ergonomics is not strong point French, especially when it comes to managing your audio system. The R-Link has a touchscreen, but it is far away from the hands and requires certain gymnastic skills to take your mind off the road. Even the buttons on the center console are slightly further away than necessary.

In the Japanese, the opposite is true: ergonomics are exemplary, but appearance and the quality of some of the materials isn't inspiring, especially when you consider the price range the Corolla is in.

Modern variators (CVTs) are relatively expensive and uncomfortable to use, thanks in large part to over-revving the engine to produce noticeable acceleration. Anyone who has ever driven a Renault Fluence or any other vehicle with a similar powertrain will immediately understand what this is about. Toyota Corolla proves that such actions are not dogma. The Japanese CVT at partial loads behaves very much like an automatic transmission, and at full load it has much lower inertia than other manufacturers' CVTs. In addition, the control program simulates the steps of an automatic transmission, and the gear ratios are selected regardless of the position throttle... Thus, it is possible to accelerate without significantly increasing the engine speed. With the Fluence variator, the gear ratio remains unchanged, which is why the speed increases unreasonably during acceleration, and there is a delay in the transmission of torque to the wheels. This is a concern, exacerbated by not very effective soundproofing, intense engine noise and vibration under load. The Corolla, on the other hand, is quiet, and the engine remains quiet even at 4,000 rpm.

The chassis settings of both cars are very similar and more comfort oriented. However, Corolla has more elastic suspension, which is felt in corners, but comfort is not affected. Steering Fluence is more artificial - the effort on the steering wheel, compared to the Corolla, is less on the spot and more at speed. However, both models are fairly accurate and do not cause problems with cornering stability. Feedback from the road is felt better in Toyota.

Fluence and Corolla in size and dimensions interior space strive for the middle class. In the basic configuration, the Classic, slightly more easily equipped Corolla, is offered for 743,000 rubles, while the base version of the Confort Fluence costs less - 716,000 rubles. The top Corolla will cost 938,000 rubles, and Fluence is much cheaper - 749,000 rubles.

First place - Toyota Corolla 1.6 CVT

The Corolla impresses with very good CVT performance, excellent road handling, and decent results in all areas of the test. With such results, success cannot be avoided. Corolla was everywhere one step ahead, but the big difference in price is hardly justified.

Second place - Renault Fluence 1.6 CVT

The Fluence variator is less successful, but the Frenchman suggests good quality and a gigantic trunk for a reasonable price. Already in the base, the car is richly equipped.
