ATF transmission fluid. What to pour in the automatic transmission? How to check the condition of the oil in the automatic transmission video

19.11.2019

"Transmission oil in an automatic transmission is usually changed every 60,000 km." (From the "Repair and Maintenance Manual").

Technicians are serious people, like the goddess Technics, whom they worship. Technique does not tolerate inaccuracies, or, God forbid, any jokes. She is extremely accurate in everything, including the language, that is, the terminology. It is said "valve to scrape", which means it is "valve" and it is "to scrape". And if, on the contrary, it is written: "to breed a Swede", then there is nowhere to go - it is necessary to breed ...

About terminology

The conversation about her did not come by accident. From the point of view of terminology, the phrase "Guidelines" given by us does not "hold out" a little. Smells, sorry, technical "fenny".

And the point is as follows. It is not oil that is poured into automatic transmissions, but a fluid specially developed for these purposes for automatic transmissions, which is confirmed by the English abbreviation ATF (automatic transmission fluid), which is always present on the packaging of this product.

It would seem, what's the difference - oil or liquid? But no. There is a difference, and a significant one. In technology, it is customary to call oil a substance used primarily for lubricating the rubbing surfaces of parts and mechanisms. In contrast, the fluid used in the automatic transmission performs many other functions that are completely unusual for oil. And it works in conditions beyond the limits of engine and transmission oils. Let's talk about this.

The fundamental difference between automatic transmissions and mechanical transmissions is that when the vehicle is moving between the engine crankshaft and primary shaft Automatic transmission is not a rigid connection. The role of the well-known clutch is assigned to the hydrodynamic transformer (GDT). It is he who transfers torque from the engine to the box. The main character, i.e. working fluid is ATF.

In addition, ATF is used to transmit the control pressure to the clutches of the multi-plate clutches, causing the inclusion of a particular gear.

In the process of operation, the units and mechanisms of the automatic transmission experience serious thermal loads. The temperature on the surface of the clutches at the time of gear shifting reaches 300-400 o С. There is an intensive heating of the torque converter. When driving in mode full power its temperature can reach 150 o C.

Providing heat removal from the automatic transmission and dumping heat into the atmosphere also occurs with the help of transmission fluid.

Moreover, ATF must still, without oxidizing at high temperatures and without foaming, provide lubrication of gear mechanisms, bearings and other parts subject to abrasion and scuffing. For this, a whole complex of additives is added to the liquid. Moreover, it should fully manifest its properties in the entire range of permissible operating temperatures: from -40 o to +150 o C.

One cooks food, one washes, one brings up children ... It's hard!

And you say: butter ...

Why?

Chemists-technologists have tried their best to create a "tricky" fluid, but still have not been able to provide such a resource of its work, so that during the operation of the car it would be possible to forget about the very existence of ATF. There are several reasons for this.

Firstly, even if the automatic transmission is sealed and has no leaks, during operation the amount of fluid decreases due to the removal of its vapors through the automatic transmission cavity ventilation system equipped with a "breather" valve. Therefore, at maintenance it is necessary to top up the transmission fluid to the operating level

This procedure is easy to perform if the automatic transmission has a tube for monitoring the fluid level with a dipstick. Many modern boxes are not equipped with a probe. This is especially typical for European manufacturers, who are persistently trying to remove the inept car owner (and they probably have the majority) from servicing personal equipment.

Secondly, during long-term operation transmission fluid sooner or later it loses its physicochemical properties, which are so necessary for it to perform numerous useful functions. Due to the evaporation of light fractions, its viscosity increases above the permissible level. Miraculous additives develop their resource.

The transmission fluid must remain clean in a normally operating box throughout the entire period of operation. Only a slight change in its color is allowed - it darkens.

A dirty black liquid with a specific burning smell is an indicator that the box does not need a fluid replacement, but serious repairs.

Experts recommend changing the oil after a car has driven 50-70 thousand km, if the car is used normally, and after 30-40 thousand km - with very intensive ("police") driving. Note again that the indication for replacing the fluid is not its color, but only the mileage of the machine. If, of course, the automatic transmission is working properly.

What?

The recommended transmission fluid is usually listed in the Repair and Maintenance Manual of the vehicle. If this information is not available, it is useful to know the following. Despite the variety of brands, what you need always has the abbreviation "ATF" on the package. The most common ATF brand is Dexron (usually with Roman numerals I, II or III). The higher the number, the higher the quality of the fluid and the more modern the automatic transmission in which it is used. For Ford vehicles, it is recommended to use Dexron-Megsop fluid. These fluids, like the vast majority of those currently on the market, are mineral-based and red in color. They are all generally compatible with each other.

As usual, French manufacturers are original, developing yellow and green ATFs for some of their cars. It is strongly discouraged to mix them with liquids of our native red color, otherwise, no matter what happens ...

Synthetic ATF has recently appeared on the market. The accompanying technical documentation states that "synthetics" provides good fluidity at temperatures down to -48 o С, better stability at high temperatures and increased service life. At the same time, synthetic transmission fluid is fully compatible with mineral ATFs (again, unlike synthetic engine oil).

The cost of one liter of "synthetics" is about 10 US dollars, while a liter of mineral ATF costs 3-4 dollars.

We will not dare to recommend it for use "anywhere". This is the case, as they say, of the head and the wallet. If the use of synthetics is specifically stipulated by the "Guide ..." (for example, for an automatic transmission of the 5NRZO type, which is equipped with some brands of BMW cars), then this is a sacred thing - you will have to go at great expense.

In total, automatic transmissions of various types can be refueled from 7 to 15 liters. transmission fluid. However, this does not mean that you need to purchase such an insane amount of ATF to replace it. This is where the fundamental difference between the process of changing the fluid and changing the engine oil in the engine is manifested.

The fact is that when replacing ATF, you will be able to drain no more than 50% of the total volume. Your dexterity and skill have nothing to do with it - these are the design features of the automatic transmission. It is possible to completely change the transmission fluid only when the gearbox is completely disassembled. Before going to the store, carefully study the technical documentation. Sometimes it indicates the full volume of ATF, sometimes the volume to be replaced. Don't forget to get a new filter element as well.

How?

You need to drain the transmission fluid from a heated automatic transmission, for which, before draining, you need to drive a car for a dozen or more kilometers.

Take care of precautions: the temperature of the liquid can be very high. As a rule, a drain plug is provided for draining, but ... today, apparently, is not our day. We're out of luck. Rather, the master Mikhail Gulut-kin, who busily sat down on a chair under the car, was unlucky: an A4LD box, which the Ford Scorpio is equipped with, drain plug does not have. Have you forgotten? A reasonable assumption was made that this is not forgetfulness, but protection from the fool: if you want to drain, unscrew the pallet. Unscrew it - you will see the filter.

In some automatic transmission designs, for example, on Mercedes cars, it is possible to drain the transmission fluid not only from the sump, but also from the torque converter through a threaded plug.

After removing the pallet, do not rush to rinse it. First, look if there are any foreign deposits on its inner surface, indicating mechanical wear of the automatic transmission parts. Only a small amount of metal dust is allowed on the trap magnet located in the corner of the pallet.

When servicing certain types of automatic transmissions, opening the pallet, you will not find the filter element. Don't worry - it also happens. For example, in a box of the AW50-40 LE brand installed on an Opel Vectra, the filter is located so that it can only be replaced when overhaul boxes.

When installing a new filter element, be sure to install all the gaskets and O-rings included in the filter kit.

After filling the required amount of ATF, set the automatic transmission mode selector to the position required for checking the fluid level and check it with the engine running.

After a short trip, repeat the measurement and bring the level to normal. Inspect the pallet for leaks.

Other details of the oil change procedure can be clarified by examining the photographic materials. Just business. As one of our acquaintances says, "Drive and don't be sad!"

WhyATFoil is so important in automatic transmission

ATF - AutomaticTransmission Fluid, oil (liquid) for automatic transmissions, in an automatic transmission performs several functions at once, the main ones of which are:

  • Lubrication
  • Force transfer
  • Cooling of parts

Reduced wear

The coefficient of friction is very important, which provides the fluid in friction clutches... If the ratio is too small, then the box will slip, if too large, it will work in jerks and wear out quickly.

Life timeATFoil in an automatic transmission

Oil in automatic transmission - ATF (Automatik Transmission Fluid) has its own service life, after its expiration, the properties of the fluid change and the entire automatic transmission stops working as expected. During its service life, contamination accumulates in the box, which are products of wear of gears and clutches, and products of oxidation of the fluid itself.

In most automatic transmissions, the oil filter in the pan serves only as a counter-emergency part and is so coarse that it will only trap the shavings formed during emergency operation of the box. Therefore, contaminants can both circulate with the fluid and form sediments and sludge in the torque converter, in the sump, as well as contaminants get into the channels and solenoids, which leads to their clogging and box failure. Therefore, the fluid in the automatic transmission must be changed periodically.

Some manufacturers, for example, Mercedes benz, tried to produce automatic transmissions with a "lifetime" filling, but after the accumulated negative experience, this practice had to be abandoned.

Now, almost all manufacturers recommend changing the fluid at regular intervals, which is influenced by the operating conditions of the car. If we summarize the recommendations for the timing, then on average it will turn out that ATF must be replaced at least once every 60 thousand kilometers, but this period may differ for each automaker.

If you operate the car in city mode, it is recommended to change the ATF oil in the automatic transmission every 40 thousand kilometers.

Full or partial replacementATF oils (liquids) in automatic transmission

In general, the replacement procedure looks like draining part of the liquid through the plug in the sump and replenishing it with fresh through the hole in the oil dipstick. Now, with the complication of box designs and the release of units without a probe, the procedure for such a replacement has become somewhat more complicated, but has not fundamentally changed.

There are two types of oil change in automatic transmission:

  • Complete replacement of ATF oil in automatic transmission
  • Partial oil change in automatic transmission

Let's assume that the middle box contains 10 liters of ATF. With the standard replacement procedure, a maximum of half of the capacity - five liters - will be drained from the box, the rest will still splash in the channels and in the "donut" of the torque converter. When draining, the oil, of course, will take with it some of the wear products, but most of the contamination will remain inside the automatic transmission. Such a replacement is called partial and is practiced everywhere.

Unfortunately, motorists usually produce partial replacement fluid in the automatic transmission.

Reasons for the popularity of partial replacementATF fluid in automatic transmission:

  • Saving money... And, first of all, this does not refer to the cost of the procedure, which is cheaper than a complete oil change in an automatic transmission, but additional expenses for ATF oil, which is necessary to completely flush the waste from the gearbox system.
  • Physical accessibility... A partial oil change in an automatic transmission is carried out in almost any service. For a complete oil change, special equipment is required.

Disadvantages of a partial oil change in an automatic transmission:

  • About half of the dirt in the automatic transmission remains inside.

About half of the oil remains in the system, which has partially lost its properties.

Complete replacement of ATF oil in automatic transmission

Complete replacement is much more rare, but its effectiveness is not comparable to partial replacement. A complete replacement is carried out using special equipment, which allows the use of special compositions for flushing automatic transmissions.

Full replacement benefitsATF oil in automatic transmission:

  • Complete oil renewal in automatic transmission
  • Washing out all contaminants and processed products from the automatic transmission
  • Extending the service life of the automatic transmission

As statistics show, additional costs for full replacement ATF oils in automatic transmissions pay off many times by extending the service life of the automatic transmission.

The procedure for a complete replacement of automatic transmission fluid is very popular in Russia, the Far East and Siberia, where operating conditions are difficult. light transport justify the additional costs. In the central regions of Russia, car owners know little about this technology yet.

The importance of choosing an oil for replacement in an automatic transmission

When changing the oil in an automatic transmission, we recommend that you take the choice of ATF fluid with full responsibility. For example, LIQUI MOLY produces oils that are not only fully compliant with the requirements automatic transmission manufacturers, but also lays down an additional resource of work in all basic parameters.

How to choose the optimal and the best oil for your gearbox.

The oil should be selected in accordance with the tolerances specified in the technical documentation for the car. If you do not have the opportunity to use the manual for any reason, then you can easily select the necessary ATF fluid in the selection catalog

AND . These are the most popular fluids that have the basic approvals and specifications of car manufacturers and automatic transmission units.

- suitable for almost all CVT variators.

Until recently, it was believed that the resource of an automatic transmission rarely exceeds 200 thousand kilometers, but regular, once every 60 thousand kilometers, changing the ATF oil with flushing can at least double it.

The car will answer for the correct and timely maintenance by increasing its service life.

What is ATF SP3? Today, only a beginner does not know that a suitable car is needed for a car engine. transmission oil... In this case, the engine of the car will not deteriorate ahead of time. So, Mitsubishi owners, Hyundai and Kia will need the proper lubricant. A good option considered ATF SP3. This lubricant will ensure that the automatic transmission runs smoothly. The automaker recommends that car owners use SP3. There are controversial points, but the manufacturer Vehicle knows better which oil is preferable for his product.

For Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Kia is better use ATF SP3 transmission oil in total.

Description of transmission oil ATF SP3

ATF oil does not look like similar products even at first glance. The grease is colored red. The product is based on high quality components. It is made in the USA. Oil production is carried out in accordance with the current international quality standards. The grease can be used in any weather, as it is all-season.

ATF works great in hot and cold weather. It is convenient to use such a lubricant: there is no need to change the oil when winter comes or, conversely, summer.

Metal parts in assemblies and assemblies function well. The car runs smoothly and quietly. This lubricant is not recommended for use in manual transmissions.

Gear oil has many benefits:

  • excellent frost resistance: the liquid begins to freeze only at a temperature of -40 ° C;
  • high fluidity;
  • good pumpability;
  • corrosion protection;
  • oxidation stability;
  • no foaming.

Other products of a similar purpose will not be able to ensure the achievement of such high values of the operational properties of automatic transmissions. Only with these oils can your machine operate at maximum efficiency.

In addition, automatic transmission parts will not break, and the formulas used by the manufacturer help to save oil. The product is sold in packages of 0.95 liters. Buy lubricants in trusted places so as not to purchase a cheap fake. Store the liquid canister in a dark place out of the sun. The label of the original product has the appropriate inscriptions. When choosing this product, the consumer takes care of his "iron horse" and saves to a large extent his money. Now there is no need for overhaul of the transmission, and there is no need to frequently change the oil for the gearbox of the vehicle.

Lubricating fluid indicators

An automatic transmission works great if only the oil recommended by the manufacturer is used. The driver should familiarize himself with all the requirements that are contained in the car's manual.

Fully synthetic ATF SP III performance is as follows:

  • stability - corrosive, thermal, oxidative;
  • excellent extreme pressure properties;
  • good viscosity-temperature characteristics;
  • excellent shear stability;
  • ensuring smooth gear shifting of a car;
  • good compatibility with all types of seals or elastomers;
  • excellent antifriction performance;
  • excellent thermal conductivity.

After the creation of the original oils, the finished products are subjected to rigorous tests in order to find out how the products meet the declared characteristics. The liquid that goes on sale and is sold on the market must necessarily comply with international quality standards and the requirements of Mitsubishi itself.

Rulers engine oils are recognized as complying with the following quality classes:

  • API SM;
  • ILSAC GF-4.

The manufacturer creates additive packages for modern oils. They allow to provide high performance during the operation of the motor and increase the engine's working life.

Motor oils produced for Mitsubishi cars have a distinctive characteristic. The lubricant is energy-saving, low-viscosity. The manufacturer has made it his first task to reduce fuel consumption. However, at the same time, high performance properties are maintained at operating temperatures.

This quality of oils is acquired due to the use of modern high-quality components in their composition. They have a high viscosity index. During the entire period of operation, the viscosity of the lubricant practically does not change, regardless of the value working temperature with low viscosity of products. Buy original lubricants if you wish to protect " iron horse»From wear and tear. If you want to change the oil, the car owner must drain the fluid he is using and fill in a new one. When there is no experience, it is better to contact a car service. If the owner of the car has been driving for more than a year, he can independently replace the transmission fluid.

How does Mitsubishi change lubricants?

To change the oil, the vehicle must be parked on a level surface.

  1. Park your car on a level area. It is advisable to choose a hard coating for this purpose. Put the car on parking brake... To access the vehicle, use a jack or park the vehicle on inspection pit or overpass.
  2. Wipe the top of the crankcase thoroughly.
  3. Remove the bolt to remove the retaining plate and remove the drive assembly for the speedometer. Check the condition of the assembly o-ring. If there is damage, it will need to be replaced.
  4. Wipe the surface of the base of the crankcase near the drain plug. Place a container under the drain hole that will serve as a receiving container. Then carefully pull out the plug.
  5. Wait for the oil to drain into the drain container. If the engine is hot, then take all precautions so as not to burn your hands. Wipe off the drain plug. It is necessary to remove small metal filings from the magnetic insert. Prepare a new washer.
  6. When the oil stops flowing into drain tank, clean the threads at the drain plug and crankcase holes. Install a new sealing washer. Tighten the plug well by tightening it at the end.
  7. Pour gear oil into the crankcase bore. Control the amount of liquid to be poured. It should not exceed the amount indicated by the manufacturer. Check the oil level in the car. Correct if necessary. Add fluid or pump out excess fluid. Install back the speedometer drive assembly. Drive the machine for a short drive during which the fresh oil is distributed to the transmission components. Check the oil level again.

Happen on the road Unexpected situations... If you are on the road, and the oil level has dropped to a critical one, then you need to top up lubricant.

An experienced driver always carries a can of oil with him.

But what to do when there is no additional lubricant in the car? You can stop at a car dealership and buy the lubricant you want. When ATF SP3 is not available, take ATF 3309.

This high performance fluid is used for automatic transmissions. It is recommended for use in Mitsubishi. The lubricant will provide excellent lubricity, quiet operation, reduced vibration, excellent vehicle handling and smooth gear shifting.

Part wear is reduced and transmission life is increased.

With the advent of modern automatic transmissions, the question of the protection of mechanisms and unit assemblies has become acute. Oils for manual transmissions were unsuitable because their characteristics did not meet the necessary requirements. An automatic transmission, like a mechanic, changes gears, but the automatic acts independently, and this greatly complicates its design. In addition, the operating conditions of the mechanisms and units of the machine do not correspond to the operating conditions of the mechanics, therefore a new ATF type of lubricant was developed for it.

ATF lubricant

ATF fluids are special oils, used to work in automatic transmissions with a hydraulic transformer, as well as in some models of variators. The abbreviation for lubricants stands for ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). The purpose of the lubricant is to protect the internal parts of the box from corrosion, overheating and wear, in addition, with the help of a liquid, an impulse is transmitted from power plant transmissions. Liquid lubricants with increased fluidity, mineral or synthetic base.

Transmission fluids perform the following functions:

  1. Control and management of an automatic transmission;
  2. Cooling of parts and mechanisms;
  3. Formation of a protective film on the surface of parts;
  4. Corrosion protection;
  5. Prevention of early wear of mechanisms from friction forces;
  6. Transfer of impulse from the power plant to the transmission;
  7. Help the friction discs work.

Working fluid in mechanical boxes and ATF oil for automatic transmission, lubricants that are not similar to each other. ATF values differ from regular oil in many ways. To create the desired consistency, use mineral oils by adding special additives to them. Each automatic transmission is suitable for a certain type of oil, with its inherent set of characteristics. The use of an inappropriate liquid will inevitably lead to breakdown of the mechanism, which is why it is so difficult to find a product similar to the original.

For the first time, a transmission lubricant specification was introduced in 1949. The concern that proposed to do this, General Motors, had no competitors and analogues at that time, and ATF fluid was specially developed for an automatic transmission designed by the company. Currently, the development and standardization of transmission fluids are engaged in: Hyundai, Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, GM.

Types of ATF fluids

First ATF type the automatic transmission was produced by GM, it was called ATF-A. In 1957, a modernization was made and a new fluid appeared called Type A Suffix A.

Types of ATF fluids on the market today:

  • The Mercon type, developed in 1980, was carried out by the auto manufacturer Ford. Compatible with other types of greases as their characteristics are identical. The difference from competitors is the calculation for the use of fluids in mechanisms where speed is required when changing gears.
  • Beginning in 1968, GM began producing a grease called Dexron. The liquid did not tolerate high temperatures, in addition, it was based on whale fat, so production soon ceased. Since 1972, the type has been replaced by a new fluid called Dexron IIC, however, the product was prone to corrosion in some parts of the boxes, so it was also replaced by Dexron IID, which used anti-corrosion additives. Until 1993, GM produced oil with an IIE prefix, which was famous for its ability to minimize the amount of moisture in the box. GM gained fame with the release of Dexron III fluid in 1993. The product had increased fluidity and performance at low temperatures, as well as improved properties in relation to rubbing surfaces. It is used for hydraulic boosters and hydraulic systems... In 2005, a new liquid with an IV index was released. The product was developed for a six-speed gearbox, has improved performance, increased service life, increased fuel efficiency.
  • Alison C-4 grease, used on trucks and construction machines.

Especially for automatic boxes Toyota cars and Lexus, Toyota developed ATF WS. Successfully applied in automatic transmissions and automatic machines with the possibility of manual switching. Toyota's ATF WS lubricant is a priority when it comes to its use on cars manufactured by the company.

Replacing ATF fluid

Transmission fluid refers to consumables that change periodically. Timely replacement of ATF in automatic transmissions increases the service life of transmission parts and mechanisms, because during operation they are subject to increased wear, the products of which settle in the oil.

Conditions affecting the oil change period:

  • Intermediate vehicle mileage between fluid changes;
  • Environment and conditions in which the vehicle was operated;
  • The nature of operation and driving style of the vehicle.

The design of automatic boxes requires the mandatory removal of the pallet and cleaning the magnets from metal shavings and accumulated debris. Changing the oil, in mandatory the filter element is also changing, to remove impurities and ensure the purification of the liquid in the future.

It is advisable to carry out the procedure at branded service stations equipped with special devices for pumping out liquid residues from the system. An independent operation will allow only a partial fluid change to be made, which can adversely affect the operation of the unit in the future.

Checking the ATF level in the box

The quality of the functions and the durability of the box directly depend on the level of the lubricating fluid in the product. The procedure for checking the oil level is carried out regularly, since the deviation of the established standards entails unpleasant consequences:

  • Lack of oil leads to air bubbles entrained in the pump and rapid wear clutches in the future. They also burn, which disables the system.
  • An excess of lubricant leads to its leakage through the ventilation valve, which is fraught with the loss of a significant amount of fluid and also failure of the clutches.

Liquid level control on each box model is carried out in accordance with the requirements. Before performing work, you must familiarize yourself with the documentation for the product and follow the procedure clearly following the established regulations.

Selection of fluid according to ATF specification

  • Dexron B: the first ATF specification, developed in 1967;
  • Dexron II: start of development 1973, the standard has received worldwide recognition;
  • Dexron IID: the beginning of implementation in 1981, designed for automatic transmissions operating at temperatures not lower than -15 ° С;
  • Dexron IIE: the beginning of implementation in 1991, designed for automatic transmissions operating at temperatures down to -30 ° C. Synthetic base, improved viscosity characteristics;
  • Dexron III: introduced in 1993, designed for use in modern boxes, increased requirements for viscosity and friction;
  • Dexron IV: Synthetic product, packed in modern boxes.

Ford also has a specification, its name is "Mercon", however, the labeling has not received widespread use, it is unified with the GM specification. For example: DesxronIII / MerconV.

Crysler also specifies its products, the specification is called "Mopar". In our region, it is not widespread, and if it does occur, it is also unified with Dexron.

Mitsubishi (MMC) -Hyundai classification:

  • Type T (TT): used in boxes with four-wheel driveА241Н and А540Н, produced in the 80s;
  • Type T-II: designed for automatic transmissions with electronic control released in the early 1990s;
  • Type TT-II: electronically controlled automatic transmissions of 95-98 years of production;
  • Type TT-III: electronically controlled automatic transmissions 98-2000 years of release;
  • Type TT-VI: electronically controlled automatic transmissions after 2000;
  • ATF WS: A generation of synthetic lubricants used in modern Toyota transmissions.

Incorrect selection of the mixture entails a large number of breakdowns, therefore it is necessary to refer to the product documentation and follow the recommendations that are prescribed there.

Interchangeability of ATF fluids

Important! Transmission fluid Toyota ATF WS is not interchangeable with Toyota and Dexron fluids. WS grease has the ability to absorb moisture, so the storage container is opened once.

If necessary gear lubricant ATF WS is replaced with oils of similar characteristics from third-party manufacturers: Idemitsu, Aisin, Zic.

When changing the lubricant in an automatic transmission, it must be remembered that modern transmission fluids are a mixture of components in a certain proportion, each of which individually represents the final product. The settings of modern automatic transmissions after 2003 release are sensitive to the change of components and take into account their specifics in the process of work. Thus, if there is any doubt about the type of old oil, it must be completely replaced.

All power steering fluids differ from each other, not only in color, but also in their characteristics: oil composition, density, viscosity, mechanical properties and other hydraulic parameters.

Therefore, if you are worried about a long and stable work hydraulic power steering of a car, you need to follow the rules of operation, change the slurry in the power steering on time and fill it with the best quality liquid. For the operation of the power steering pump two types of fluids are used- mineral or synthetic, in conjunction with additives that play a major role in the operation of the hydraulic booster.

It is quite difficult to determine the best fluid for power steering, because, according to the manufacturer's recommendation, it is better to pour the prescribed brand into a particular car. And since not all drivers comply with this requirement, we will try to make a list of 15 best liquids for the power steering, which caused the most confidence and received many positive reviews.

Note that such liquids are poured into the power steering:

  • regular ATF, as in automatic transmission gear;
  • Dexron (II - VI), the same as ATP fluid, only a different set of additives;
  • PSF (I-IV);
  • Multi HF.

Therefore, the TOP of the best hydraulic booster fluids will consist, respectively, of similar categories.

So, what is the best power steering fluid to choose from all on the market?

Reviews
  • - Not a bad liquid, chips are not formed, but very aggressive to aluminum, plastic and oil seals.
  • - After replacing my VOLVO S60 on my VOLVO S60, I immediately noticed a smoother steering wheel and quiet work Power steering. The howling sounds disappeared when the power steering was working in extreme positions.
  • - I decided to choose Pentosin, although our price is 900 rubles. per liter, but confidence in the car is more important ... On the street again -38, normal flight.
  • - I live in Novosibirsk, in severe winters the steering wheel spins like a KRAZ, I had to try many different liquids, arranged a frost test, took 8 popular brands with ATF, Dexron, PSF and CHF fluids. So mineral Dextron became like plasticine, PSF was better, but Pentosin turned out to be the most liquid.

  • - I live in the north, I drive a Cadillac SRX when there were problems with hydraulics after -40, I tried to fill in Zentralhydraulik-Oil, although there is no admission, but only Ford took a chance, I drive everything OK for the fourth winter.

  • - In my Opel I drove 27 thousand km in a year in a temperature range from -43 to + 42 ° C. The power steering does not buzz at startup, but in the summer it seemed that the liquid was liquid, since when the steering wheel was rotated in place, there was a feeling of the shaft rubbing against the rubber.

  • - On my Aveo they write that Dextron 6 needs to be poured into the power steering, I took it from the Castrol Transmax DEX-VI store, it seems as if it was only for automatic transmission, they said it was good for the gidrach, as it was regulated by the price policy, so that it was not the cheapest, but also expensive it's a pity. There is very little information and reviews on this fluid, but I have no complaints, the steering wheel spins without sounds and difficulties.
