2018 Audi Q3 - video

The Audi Q3 is a front- or four-wheel drive premium SUV in the compact category that combines (according to the German machine builder himself) all positive traits meeting the requirements of a modern metropolis, and strengths inherent in crossovers ... Its target audience is not limited by any strict framework - it is addressed to successful young people (regardless of gender), and family people with one or more children, and even retirees ...

The second generation SUV made its official debut on July 25, 2018 - as part of a special event held in Germany. After another "change of generations" the car put on a new corporate identity of the brand (the first carrier of which at one time was the flagship Q8), received several options for external styling, moved from the ancient PQ35 platform to the modular "cart" MQB, simultaneously enlarging in size, acquired a new modern equipment and "armed" with efficient and economical motors.

From the outside, the “second” Audi Q3 looks attractive, aggressive and harmonious, but at the same time restrained, expensive and noble (even despite its small dimensions).

The assertive "facade" of the SUV is adorned with the predatory squint of LED headlights with "sagging" corners, the monumental "octagon" of the radiator grill and the sculpted bumper, and its tightly knit rear flaunts sophisticated lights and a "blown" bumper.

On the side, the five-door boasts a balanced and energetic silhouette, showing short overhangs, a sloping roofline, a powerful shoulder area, expressive sidewalls and impressive flourishes of wheel arches, enclosing "rollers" measuring from 17 to 20 inches.

The overall length of the second generation Audi Q3 is 4485 mm, its width is 1856 mm and its height is 1585 mm. Between wheelsets the SUV has a 2680 mm base, and under the bottom - 170 mm ground clearance.

In the "stowed" state, the car weighs at least 1615 kg (but much depends on the version).

The interior of the crossover meets its inhabitants with a beautiful and modern, but at the same time "mature" and laconic design, emphasized by a high-quality level of assembly and exclusively premium finishing materials (pliable plastics, genuine leather, aluminum, etc.).

Inside the five-door there are no dial gauges at all: in the "base" behind the embossed three-spoke steering wheel, there is a 10.25-inch display with drawn scales, and in the "top" versions - a full-fledged virtual cockpit with the ability to change the image and a diagonal of up to 12.3 inches. The minimalistic center console, turned ten degrees towards the driver, carries a media center screen measuring 8.8 or 10.1 inches and a classic "microclimate" unit with an individual "window".

Formally, the second-generation Audi Q3 has five seats, but in fact, only two adults can sit in the second row of seats with maximum comfort (the shortened sofa cushion in the central part and a high floor tunnel "declare" that the third is superfluous). But the "gallery" can move back and forth in the range of 150 mm and has a backrest adjustable in tilt angle with seven fixed positions. The front riders fall into the tenacious embrace of ergonomic seats with embossed sidewalls, moderately rigid padding and wide intervals of electrical settings.

The crossover's asset is a trunk of the correct shape, which in a normal state is capable of "absorbing" 530 liters of luggage (with the rear sofa shifted all the way forward - 675 liters). The second row is "cut" into three sections in a ratio of "40:20:40", and when folded, it forms a completely flat floor and brings the usable volume up to 1525 liters. In the underground niche there is a small spare wheel and tools.

For the Audi Q3 of the second generation, a wide range of modifications is offered, each of which is equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics" or 7-band "robot" S tronic and driven front wheels or an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch, supplying, if necessary, up to half of the power reserve to the rear wheels :

  • Under the hood of the base 35 TFSI petrol version, there is an inline 1.5-liter "four" with a turbocharging, the system direct injection, 16-valve timing and variable valve timing, developing 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.
  • More efficient gasoline versions are driven by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with a turbocharger, direct "power supply", phase shifters at the inlet and outlet and a 16-valve timing structure:
    • on the 40 TFSI version, it generates 190 hp. and 320 Nm of peak potential;
    • and on the 45 TFSI - 230 hp. and 350 Nm of torque.
  • The "heart" of diesel crossovers is a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with common rail fuel supply and 16 valves, available in two levels of "pumping":
    • on the 35 TDI modification, its output is 150 hp. and 340 Nm of torque;
    • and for 40 TDI - 190 hp. and 400 Nm of available thrust.

The second generation Audi Q3 is based on the MQB model architecture with a longitudinally oriented power plant and a monocoque body in the construction of which high-strength grades of steel and aluminum are combined. On both axles of the off-road vehicle used independent suspensions with stabilizers lateral stability: front - MacPherson type, rear - four-link system. As an option, the car can be equipped with a "clamped" sports or adaptive (with electronically controlled shock absorbers) chassis.

The five-door has a rack and pinion steering gear with electric amplifier management, which for some money is complemented by a progressive gear ratio. On all wheels of the crossover ventilated disc brakes, aggregated with ABS, EBD and a bunch of other modern "gadgets".

The second generation Audi Q3 will reach European dealers in November 2018 (the trim levels and prices will become known closer to that moment), but Russian market it will appear only in the first half of 2019 (and it will definitely turn out to be more expensive than its predecessor, for which they ask for at least two million rubles).

Nominally, the car boasts: front and side airbags, full LED optics, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone "climate", heated and electric front seats, virtual instrument cluster, media center with an 8.8-inch screen, premium audio system, "cruise", power windows for all doors, ABS, ESP and other "chips".

In the list of options: all-round cameras, a roof with a panoramic view, car park, adaptive cruise control, fifth door servo, steering wheel heating and windshield, "Music" Bang & Olufsen Premium with 15 speakers, matrix headlights and the darkness of other "goodies".

After the release of the next Q5 model, Audi began to think about expanding the Q series line by another model, such a novelty was the compact crossover Audi Q3. The car debuted in mid-2011. For the concern, this is a strategically important step towards conquering the market. The model will be a direct competitor to BMW's X1. Interestingly, the cars are assembled not in Germany, but in the Catalan town of Martorell at the factory, everyone is fine famous brand Seat.

Externally new car reminds us well of the previous models Q7 and Q5. The main difference from them is the size of all three models. Audi Q3 is built on the basis of Volkswagen Tiguan, the recognized leader of all compact crossovers... However, even in spite of the increased wheelbase, contrary to the trend, it is smaller than the soplatform one. The Audi Q3 is 4.39 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 1.60 meters high (including roof rails). However, there is plenty of room inside. The only thing, the engineers had to abandon the longitudinal adjustment of the rear sofa.

The Audi Q3 has the sportiest design in its segment. The dominant element at the front is the large singleframe grille with beveled top corners. Its contours find their way into the dynamic contours of the bonnet. Xenon bifunctional headlights with LED daytime running lights can be ordered on request. They come with LED strips in the taillights. Two tailpipes are spaced apart on the sides of the rear. The wide tailgate overlooking the sidewalls of the body resembles the older models - Audi Q5 and Q7. It greatly facilitates loading and visually emphasizes the width of the vehicle. The drag coefficient (0.32) is unique for this segment; the underbody trim ensures optimal airflow distribution under the vehicle.

The manufacturer offers twelve body colors and five exterior trim packages. Parts for the underbody panels and wheel arch liners are available in black or painted in body color or contrasting anthracite gray. The Audi exclusive Offroad exterior package enhances the exterior and enhances the powerful lines of the Audi Q3. The classic S line exterior package is designed for sports fans.

The Q3 saloon has five seats with the typical high-quality finish that is common to all Audi cars... Of course, it is not as spacious as, for example, in the Q7, but it does not lose in comfort either. High-quality plastics, pleasant to the touch, and expensive soft leather are used in the decoration. Hard front seats are comfortable, ergonomics at a height. The luggage compartment is 460 liters (100 liters less than the Q5). With the rear seats folded down, the luggage space can be increased to 1,365 liters.

Optional standard equipment can be complemented with a variety of luxury options. Among them is the system adaptive lighting(adaptive light) (to be ordered in conjunction with xenon bifunctional headlights), which guarantees excellent illumination both when driving in a straight line and when cornering. The advanced parking aid warns of obstacles, even if they are to the side of the car. Panoramic roof offered, diode backlight salon, sports seats and an aggressive body kit. A wide range of different information and communication systems are available for installation on the Audi Q3. The list of equipment includes navigation system MMI Navigation plus with large-capacity hard drive and premium Bose Surround Sound system with dramatic illumination of the front woofers. The car has received a new multimedia system with a built-in Bluetooth headset, which will allow the driver to talk without any problems while driving. The main feature of such a system is the ability to distribute a Wi-fi network and the ability to work in a new generation 3G network.

Under the hood of the novelty, you can find one of two two-liter diesel engines with a capacity of 140 and 177 horsepower, or one of two gasoline units, with a volume of the same two liters, developing power of 170 and 211 hp. For a driver who perceives cars only with an obstinate character, a crossover with an "S" nameplate will be available. Five-cylinder 2.5-liter 300 hp engine Transmission to choose from - either 6-speed "mechanics" or robotic 7-speed S-tronic automatic transmission with two clutches.

The body of the Audi Q3 is characterized by its high rigidity, crash safety and acoustic comfort. The body structure is made of variable thickness sheet metal and ultra-high strength hot-formed steel parts. The thinner parts significantly reduce the overall weight. The bonnet and tailgate of the Audi Q3 are made of aluminum. The Audi Q3 has more than five parking assistance systems. The car is equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors along the entire perimeter. In addition, Audi is equipped with a lane-keeping system while driving, with active lane change assist. V emergency situations the car will help to deflect a collision by smoothly moving the steering wheel in the desired direction.
