This device controls the amount of air entering the engine.   5. Dry the device.

Unstable operation of the carburetor engine

The nature of unstable revolutions of a VAZ2107 / 2105 engine with carburetors is the same as that of an injection engine, in an uncontrolled supply of air or fuel to the combustion chamber.

But in this case, the carburetor is responsible for preparing the combustible mixture. This is a completely mechanical device that is responsible for the optimal ratio of fuel to oxygen for different operating modes. power unit.


Despite the fact that there are filters at the fuel and air inlets, they can work ineffectively, as a rule, due to a long service life exceeding that specified in the maintenance standards. As a result, small particles clog the carburetor jets.

Drivers with great experience do not stand on ceremony much, they throw the VAZ2107 / 2105 carburetor into a bucket of gasoline for a day, then blow it from all sides with compressed air and the carburetor seems to be working normally. To determine the malfunction of the VAZ2107 / 2105 carburetor, and it is likely to be complex, start by checking the float for leaks. To do this, remove it from the carburetor top cover (it must be dismantled). If there is gasoline in the float - discard the float, if there is air - check in a basin of water for bubbles. Suppose he passed the exam, then it is necessary to check the gap.

Lift the carburetor cover upright. The gap between the float chamber and the carburetor wall should be 6.5 mm.

Install the carburetor cover and run the engine for 30 seconds. Remove the cover. The gasoline level should be exactly in the middle of the tapered surface of the carburetor body. If this does not work out, you should slightly bend the angle of the float rod.

Over time, air and fuel jets will either clog or wear out. In the first case, they must be cleaned and blown out. In the second case, you should check the throughput of the nozzles using a water tank installed above the measured nozzle by 1 meter. They are connected by a tube. A volumetric flask is installed at the bottom. Measurements are carried out in units of cm3 / min. Depending on the marking of the nozzle, the volume of liquid collected per minute in a volumetric flask must correspond.

It is much easier to buy a set of jets and replace them after 7-10 years of carburetor operation.

Those who use gas installations should be aware that the carburetor is not used when driving on gas. Over time, oxide forms inside the dry jets, which clogs the fuel supply holes. A petrol car may not start. It is recommended to periodically use gasoline.

Carburetor adjustment

Carburetor adjustment consists of several steps:

  1. Adjust the float position as described above.
  2. Check and refit the "quality" and "quantity" screws. Screw them all the way in and unscrew 2-3 turns for the “quality” screw and 3-4 for the “quantity” screw.
  3. Connect a tachometer or auto-tester to the "K" terminal of the ignition coil, and the second probe to the body.
  4. Start and warm up the engine to a temperature of 90 ° C

  1. Use the "quality" screw to set the maximum idle speed. Gasoline flow is increased by turning the screw counterclockwise.
  2. Use the “quantity” screw to increase the speed, approximately 80-90 rpm.
  3. Using the quality screw, we determine whether these revolutions are maximum, if not, then we repeat the procedure.
  4. If the position of the quantity screw does not affect the engine speed, tighten the quality screw so that the speed drops to 800-900 rpm.

This carburetor adjustment may not be entirely accurate, but does not require special equipment.

If the car stalled

An engine that suddenly stalls not only creates an inconvenience while driving, but also poses a safety hazard to the driver and passengers. There are several reasons.

Stalls idling:

  • failure of the idle sensor;
  • failure of the throttle sensor;
  • failure of the throttle position sensor.

Stalls on the move:

  • interruption of fuel or air supply due to a dirty filter;
  • fuel pump malfunction;
  • clogging of the carburetor jets;
  • overheating of the engine.

It is better to start diagnostics of a car whose engine stalls in the most unexpected places by checking the idle speed sensor.

It is easy to check its performance. Dismantle the device without removing the contacts, or connect them after dismantling. Hold the device in your hands, put your finger on the cone needle and ask your friend to turn on the ignition. If you feel jolts, then put the device back. The idle sensor is OK.

If the throttle sensor is out of order, then the car will not only stall, but also will not start, because the ECU will give the command for maximum fuel emission, the candles will fill up and the engine stalled.

If you are on the road in a VAZ car and there is a problem with the throttle sensor, then it is easier not to bother and contact the nearest service, but if you reached the garage, you can use the following instruction:

  1. Remove the sensor.
  2. Using a 2 mm drill, drill out the plastic cover in a circle.
  3. Take out the plastic pad of the upper contact block.
  4. At the bottom deck, clean the tracks with WD-40 or rubbing alcohol.
  5. Same with contact group top cover, but do not bend them, they will then prematurely eat the tracks.
  6. Reassemble in reverse order.
  7. Coat the contour with any glue for plastic.

Not enough air

Often the car starts up well, it rides on suction, but as soon as the suction is turned off, the engine stalls. This says only one thing - lack of air. The air jets are most likely clogged. They must be unscrewed and cleaned. Then check that the car should not stall without suction.

There are an incredible number of reasons for the poor-quality operation of car units with similar symptoms, but only a specialist with a set of professional diagnostic tools can figure them out. Situations when the VAZ injector starts up immediately, after which it immediately stalls, arise quite often. And all because of the fuel injection system (forced type). So, what should you do if the engine starts easily, but after that it immediately slows down and stalls? The first step is to check for carbon deposits on the candles. So what is the cause of the engine malfunction? If the car starts, then at least everything is fine with the spark. That is, the electrician works as expected. It will not be superfluous to unwind the heads and try to find those candles that are covered with a layer of carbon. You can clean them by burning them over a gas burner and cleaning alcohol (this can be done only when the contacts are cold).

The injector itself can also become clogged. In this case, the fuel supply to the combustion chamber simply does not work. The following actions should be performed:

  • remove the blocks and check the dampers;
  • check the operation of the sensors;
  • check if the engine runs normally at temperatures over 80 ° C.

Naturally, the fuel pump itself can malfunction. At the time of starting the engine, it turns into the injector automatically due to the starter, and then there is traction from the generator. If one of these components does not work properly, the car will simply stall. Here again we are talking about the residual fuel quantity in the cylinders. If the engine immediately stalls, and with it the starter also works unevenly, then, most likely, the problem is either in it or in the ignition lock.



You should try to replace it with a known good one and retest the engine operation. In extreme cases, the contacts are simply clamped.

What if the problem is in the ECU?

The engine may malfunction if the on-board computer malfunctions. In VAZ, it is he who is responsible for the timely supply of fuel, synchronization of the operation of the injector injector and spark plugs. When the engine immediately stalls, this indicates a mismatch between the timing of fuel supply and ignition. fuel mixture.

As a rule, changing the firmware or restoring it to the factory state helps. Although sometimes it may simply be necessary to adjust the fuel supply cycle, as well as the saturation of the mixture. In extreme cases, on a VAZ 2110 (or a later model), you will have to replace the entire ECU unit or turn it off, putting the engine into operation only from mechanics.

It should be noted that not only the ECU itself is responsible for the operation of the engine, but also a bunch of sensors that regulate the pressure in the nozzle, the saturation of the mixture, and the ignition moment.


That is, you need to check their work. Although, when a malfunction of one of them is detected, a signal should be given Check Engine on dashboard... This, for example, happens when the VAZ 2110 starts up. This does not happen only if the ECU simply does not receive signals from the sensors. Similar problems arise when the carburetor is synthetically altered for an injector, but the same on-board computer remains. They just change the firmware, connect new modules, but you need to understand that it was not originally designed for such work. So, if the injector starts and immediately stalls, then the main reasons for such a malfunction are malfunctions in the electronics (including the computer), improper operation of the fuel system, or problems with filtering gasoline. It is not a problem to identify the root cause. In extreme cases, you can always contact the service station center. But it is worth remembering that any adjustments to work on-board computer can only be inserted with a fully functional engine.

The injector starts and stalls

Injection vehicles can behave this way due to a malfunctioning fuel pump. It is in the tank. It is very simple to check its performance. If you turn the ignition key to the first position and listen, you will hear how the pump works, pumping gasoline into the system.

Severe contamination of the fine fuel filter can also lead to the car stalling after starting. The filter simply does not have time to pass the required amount of gasoline.

ECU errors often lead to problems with starting the engine, not receiving signals from certain sensors, or receiving them in a distorted form. Diagnostics of such breakdowns is best done in specialized services.

Why carburetor cars start and stall

If the car starts up and immediately stalls, then the problem may be due to lack of fuel in float chamber... You can try to manually pump up the fuel pump. It must be checked for operability, and, if necessary, replaced.

Before you engage in self-cleaning of the power system in general and the carburetor in particular, you should remember that any unconscious manipulations can lead to great increase fuel consumption.

Another reason why the engine stalls is that the mesh filter in the carburetor in front of it is clogged. If the car starts up and stalls after a few seconds because of this filter, then it must be cleaned and rinsed. To do this, use a toothbrush and thinner (gasoline or acetone). After that, immediately, together with the filter, clean the slot into which it is inserted.

It happens that in VAZ cars, a few seconds after starting, the speed drops due to a malfunction solenoid valve... The check is carried out as follows: the valve is unscrewed, by positive contact power is applied and the housing is shorted to motor ground. If the valve is working properly, a distinct sound will be heard, and the needle will enter the body.

You can simply wire connected to the valve and put it in place. If you do not hear a click, the valve is faulty. We unscrew the valve and take out the jet from it. If it is bent, it needs to be replaced. Make sure the valve stop needle moves freely and that the valve gasket is not torn and that it fits snugly against the body.

If there is a click of the valve, then it is necessary to diagnose the EPHC system. The idle fuel jet may need to be cleaned. If a car's engine speed drops, clogging can affect stability. To clean the jet, it is necessary to create an increased vacuum in the channels of the system.

To do this, start the car and raise the rpm to 3000. Turn out the jet holder (solenoid valve) for a few turns. This allows you to create the required vacuum in the channels. We repeat the procedure several times.

Other reasons for the incorrect start of the VAZ 2107 engine

Another common problem, due to which the engine of VAZ 2107 cars starts and stalls, is excess air entering the carburetor. In this case, the fuel mixture cannot keep the engine running for a long time, and although the car starts up, it stalls after a few seconds. It is necessary to determine the place of air leakage and eliminate the gap.

It happens that the nozzles and nozzles of the dosing system are clogged. This also affects the drop in engine speed, so that the VAZ 2107 stalls after a few seconds. What to do in this case? It is necessary to unscrew the jets and pipes under the carburetor cover and clean them. After that, blow out the wells and jets with compressed air. If you have a Solex carburetor, then you also need to clean and blow the fuel jets located at the bottom of the wells.

Adjusting the fuel level in the float chamber (Solex carburetors)

In addition to all of the above, engine speed drops if the fuel level in the carburetor is incorrectly adjusted (float chamber). As a result, there is either insufficient or too much gasoline in the fuel mixture.

When adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor, it does not need to be disconnected from the engine. Follow these steps:

  1. remove the air filter housing by unscrewing all fasteners;
  2. remove the carburetor cover;
  3. check the position of the floats. To do this, breed and bring them together to achieve the correct location.

It is necessary to achieve such a position of the floats so that they move freely without clinging to the walls of the chamber in which they are located. It will not be superfluous to measure the distance from the protrusions on the floats to the paper pad. The distance should be within 0.75–1.25 mm. Use a dipstick to measure.

What if it is far from the norm? In this case, you need to adjust the height of each of the floats.
As we have seen, there are not so few reasons why the engine stalls. To start the engine correctly, you need to check and eliminate all of the above malfunctions. After that, if the problem has not been resolved, you will have to contact the specialists.

How to solve this problem? Get started cleaning the throttle valve, especially since you can do it yourself. The only caveat is that for high-quality cleaning, you must purchase in advance special composition that allows you to efficiently blow through the injector and other components of the iron structure

Also inspect the oil trap, if it is clogged, it is time to clean it as well. Otherwise, very soon the crankcase ventilation system will clog up, and the engine will literally suffocate from excess gases, which means it will not be able to cope with idling.

If the engine stalls and then starts

Incorrect operation of the car at idle is also possible if the firmware of the electronic control unit designed for the engine is incorrectly installed. This happens if the car enthusiast overdoes it with tuning the VAZ-2107. How to repair the idle speed controller


The injector, in fact, does not need to be regulated, because the intelligent on-board control system is responsible for the operation of the machine. The idle speed regulator built into the injector is a mechanism that opens and then closes the air flow, and the air itself passes through a channel specially equipped for this.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to establish the exact breakdown of the idle speed controller (IAC), based on the readings on the side panel - the malfunction signal will not light up. But what will immediately become obvious is the instability of the rotations or their complete disappearance. If there is a "Check" signal on the VAZ-2107 instrument panel, it is quite possible that the IAC is to blame. This means that the engine detonates, and this signal is transmitted to the control unit, powered by the electronics.

How to diagnose the VAZ-2107 injector

Practice shows that if the injector stalls at idle, in 70% of cases it is the IAC that is to blame, so we suggest learning how to diagnose:

  1. Measure the voltage at the block where the regulator works. Normal voltage is 12 V. If the voltage is less, examine the battery wear and charge.
  2. If the voltage is completely absent, you should check the entire power supply circuit of the mechanism and then take up the diagnostics of the computer.
  3. When the multimeter, put into resistance mode, shows a value other than 53 ohms between the pairs of terminals, disconnect the IAC and turn the ignition. If the needle is immobilized, then it is the idle speed sensor that has broken.

How to repair an injector in a VAZ-2107

Foreshadowing the adjustment

Configuring with additional devices

Having procured a multimeter and a gas analyzer, the adjustment results will be similar to those sought by car service specialists.

  1. Adjust the correct ignition angle with a multimeter (connected to the distributor coil) and fix the trampler.
  2. Insert the gas analyzer into exhaust pipe and start the car.
  3. The screw for the amount of the mixture (indicated in the figure with the number 1), set in such a position that the rotation of the crankshaft is within the range of 840-960 rpm.
  4. We look at the gas analyzer, if the CO value is exceeded, we adjust the quality of the mixture (number 2 in the figure).
  5. After that, the rotation of the crankshaft will decrease slightly, repeat step 3.
    The last points are repeated until the values ​​are at least a little like the factory values. To check, it is necessary to sharply press the gas pedal several times and release it. At correct setting revs are gained smoothly and quickly, and are reset automatically and without breaks.

Adjustment without additional devices


If it was not possible to find special devices, the adjustment can be made without a gas analyzer, but only with a tachometer. The procedure is basically the same, only the screws need to be turned a little differently.

  1. We set the screw for the amount of the mixture in the position of the nominal crankshaft speed (820/900 rpm).
  2. We use the quality screw to catch the maximum speed.
  3. We increase the speed of the crankshaft to 950-1035 rpm (15%), by means of the number screw.
  4. We check the quality screw, it should be in the position of the maximum possible revolutions for the current location of the quantity screw.
  5. We repeat points 3 and 4 until after completing the third point, adjusting the quality screw will only lead to a decrease in speed.
  6. We tighten the quality screw to the rated speed.

The correctness of the procedure performed can be checked by removing the terminal from the solenoid valve, the engine should stall. If this did not happen, then most likely the throttle valve is slightly open, which is regulated by the controversial screws. Please note that in cold weather it is recommended to set idle speed in the range of 900-1000 rpm, and in warm season - 800-900 rpm.

Output

As you yourself saw, the carburetor is a complicated thing, but you don't need to adjust the idle speed. Do not try to repeat the procedure if your "seven" is on gas, the process will be meaningless because the carburetor does not work with this type of fuel. For convenience, the air filter housing is removed from the carburetor and all air pipes are inspected. There should be no cracks on them, and the material should remain elastic. If necessary, the carburetor is dismantled and its complete disassembly is carried out with defect detection and replacement of faulty parts.


At the next stage, diagnostics, elimination of identified malfunctions and adjustment of the ignition system are performed. It is recommended to clean the contacts in the distributor with fine sandpaper, replace the candles and set the lead angle correctly. This can be done using a tester or a primitive test lamp. As you can see, the screws are deep in the case. throttle valves carburetor, so the screw under the number "1" is not visible in the photo. On some cars, bushings are pressed onto both of these screws, thanks to which the screws can only be turned half a turn. If, due to these bushings, it is not possible to turn the idle adjustment screw properly, then remove the screws and, as a result, break the heads of the bushings. When the screws are unscrewed, wipe off the remnants of the broken bushings from them and then tighten the screws in their place!

Idle speed adjustment using the Gas analyzer device:

1) First start the car and let it warm up to the operating temperature of "90-95 ° C". After the car warms up, using a screwdriver, start turning the screw which is indicated in the photo under the number "2", turn this screw until the crankshaft speed reaches "750-800 min."

So that you understand in more detail, when the screw is tightened, the crankshaft speed will gradually decrease, and with the opposite effect, that is, when it is unscrewed, the speed will gradually increase!

2) Now smoothly go to adjusting the "CO" content in the exhaust gases, for this, turn the screw that is indicated under the number "1" in the photo above. When screwing in the screw under the number "1", the content of "CO" in the exhaust gases will gradually decrease, and when unscrewed, it will increase accordingly.

It is necessary to regulate the content of "CO" in the exhaust gases in accordance with the "GOST" at the present time. It is not necessary to lower the content of "CO" below the norm, because in this regard, the content of unburned hydrocarbons "CH" may sharply increase. By the way, when adjusting the screw "1", it can change the crankshaft speed!

3) And finally, turn the screw under the number "2", thereby bringing the crankshaft speed back to normal. After that, it is also recommended to check the "CO" content in the exhaust gases using a device. If it is necessary to re-adjust both screws, adjust them until the engine operation and the emission of "CO" into the atmosphere will not reach the norm.

After all adjustments, sit in the car and sharply press and then release the gas pedal. Make sure that when you press the pedal, the engine works without interruption, and when you release it, the engine of the car should not stall. If the engine stalls after releasing the gas pedal, then increase the crankshaft rotation speed to "800 rpm". The crankshaft speed is regulated by the screw under the number "2"!

Idle speed adjustment without gas analyzer:

1) To begin with, slowly begin to rotate the screw of the mixture composition, which is indicated under the number "1". Rotate it until the crankshaft speed is maximum. (The frequency of rotation of the crankshaft can be very easily recognized by the readings of the tachometer)
