The car received me hospitably, a large (thanks to the high roof) doorway and a comfortable five-way electric chair with lumbar support helped me quickly get into the optimal position, which I immediately remembered.

Inside, this is a typical Volkswagen - everything is located logically, strictly in its place, the interior is well assembled, the materials, both by eye and by touch, leave no doubt about their quality. Decorative inserts under wood and sun blinds on the windows added solidity to the car, and I had the feeling that I had turned into a driver of a VIP-person. Well, let's try ourselves in a new capacity. I adjust the mirrors, which, by the way, also have a memory, and the steering wheel is all familiar. I turn on my favorite radio station and go.

And immediately, from the first literal meters, I understand that this modest-looking Skoda has ambitions that are far from being modest. The engine in conjunction with a smart "robot" DSG with two clutches smoothly and rapidly accelerates an almost two-ton colossus. A moment - and we fly faster than the flow, although I only slightly pressed the accelerator pedal. Another moment, and I completely forgot about the role of a personal driver and turned into a racer, with whom the "Legacy" and "Insignia" flying alongside immediately decided to compete. Poor fellows, they don't even know that under the hood of the Skoda a herd of 260 horses, which accelerate the car to a hundred in 6 and a half seconds, is 1.3 seconds faster than the 2-liter Superba and as much as three - the base , too, I must say, is by no means a slug. The speed in this car is absolutely not felt, therefore, in order not to become a malicious violator of the rules, you need not be lazy and find in the depths on-board computer sound alarm setting. A very useful function - the car itself gives a signal when the speed limit is exceeded.

There is a lot of legroom for passengers of any "Superba"

The Superba suspension deserves special praise. Frankly, at first I specially drove the car to the most uneven sections of the Yegoryevskoye highway, in order to once again make sure of its perfection. However, buyers of any of the five variants of the Superba will be able to enjoy the smoothness of the ride, but only the fastest should have four-wheel drive. Continuing to mock the big Skoda, I turned off the asphalt onto a muddy lane, trodden by dump trucks from the nearest quarry. Goes! And how! True, in the end, the pits won the fight with low-profile tires, and before reaching Moscow some 20 km, I punched two wheels one after the other.

I will not tell you about all my adventures - the “Buy a car” format, alas, does not allow. But thanks to them, I made an important conclusion that the low profile is not for our roads, and I fully felt all the advantages of the "Superba" trunk. You can open it in two different ways: you press one button - only the lid rises, like in a classic sedan, you press two, the tailgate soars up along with the rear window - a typical hatchback. Putting the 17th wheels in such a hold is much more convenient.

The original "sesame", by the way, is also required for any "Superboy", so if you just want a big, roomy, comfortable and solid car, the basic car is enough for you. If you need an option that is faster and more economical at the same time, we pay extra 280,000 for a 2-liter "Superb". And add 440,000 more to that, you get a gorgeous naturally aspirated V6 and four-wheel drive. For those who know how to count money and do not want to overpay half a million for prestigious German sedans with four-wheel drive, - this is the best variant.

The 3rd generation Skoda Superb liftback, built on the new modular MQB platform, has appeared on Russian market in September 2015. The third generation Superb is built on the MQB platform (developed by Volkswagen) and inherited the design of the infamous VisionC green concept car, which Skoda demonstrated at the Geneva and Moscow motor shows in 2014. On the other side, new hatchback Superb has become more functional and roomy: the stock has increased interior space for all indicators. The equipment has also improved significantly. Among the innovations of the new Superb are a three-zone air conditioning system in the cabin, wireless heated windshield, Park Assist, as well as four fundamentally new infotainment systems to choose from, which enable high-speed Internet connection using the LTE standard (for the first time in a car of the brand Škoda), connect to your smartphone and operate some applications directly from the infotainment screen.


In the Russian market, sales of the Skoda Superb hatchback began in February 2015. The equipment of the basic version of Active includes: front fog lights, daytime running lights, LED rear lights, thermal insulation glass, heated washer jets windshield, external electric heated mirrors. The power plants for the Skoda Superb hatchback are Volkswagen engines with direct injection and turbocharging: five petrol TSIs from 1.4 to 2.0 liters with an output of 125 to 280 hp and three TDI diesels from 1.6 to 2.0 liters with indicators from 120 to 190 hp. Despite the fact that the Superb formally belongs to the business class, in terms of the volume of interior space, it is larger than many executive cars.

Superb Combi with a 3.6-liter engine is not an ordinary car - it is a sports equipment disguised as a large family station wagon and in no way giving out his sports habits.


In our country, there is still a very ambiguous attitude towards Skoda cars. The stereotype of the brand's unreliability is still hovering in the minds of skeptical buyers. At the same time, Skoda cars are almost entirely composed of parts developed by the VAG concern. And the only thing that can be blamed on the manufacturer is that Skoda is not supposed to be in terms of status, even as an optional one, optional equipment premium segment installed on the corresponding Audi models and VW (we'll come back to this a little later). Otherwise, Skoda cars are a classic design without frills and, most importantly, maximum functionality and convenience. That is why it is impossible to judge Skoda cars with a superficial glance, because their whole essence appears in the details.

Skoda cars have never shone with expressive and emotional design, but we must admit that the Superb station wagon looks very stylish in comparison with competitors in its class. At the same time, the car looks much more impressive from the back and in profile than from the front. Generally speaking, at the front, the Superb spoils a sad and sad look with a heavy eyebrow line hanging over the headlights and folds under the eyes, the role of which is played by the chrome lining of the headlight washers.

Inside, at first glance, the picture is no better, the German pedantry for which Volkswagen models are famous is clearly traced - boring, very boring. But it is simply impossible not to notice the amount of free space. And this while we sat down only in the driver's seat. And those who decide to go to the second row are in for a real shock - no, without exaggeration, such a volume of legroom for rear passengers can be expected only in executive cars and most likely in the version with an extended base, but not in the D class station wagon. I, with a height of 182 centimeters, sitting on the second row, I can simply throw one leg over the other without touching the back of the driver's seat. And it is worth noting that the space for the rear passengers was carved out not to the detriment of the trunk, which, with the backs of the rear seats folded, has a length of 2 meters.

But on the road, Superb is able to reveal his emotionality much better than in a parking lot. And despite the rather solid mass (1800 kg), the six-cylinder engine is paired with robotic box DSG transmission provides very solid driving dynamics on the highway. No joke, the claimed acceleration to 100 km / h is 6.6 seconds, and this is already the level of real sports cars. Here it is worth noting immediately the exact steering which undoubtedly spoils the long steering rack(3 turns from lock to lock, identical to Octavia RS), but this is not so critical as to count the number of turns of the steering wheel at all. A stiff suspension eliminates roll, but delivers very serious discomfort on bumpy roads. Yes, and most importantly, the brakes are two-piston calipers with 345 mm brake discs (exactly the same brakes are on the Audi S3). Their power is sufficient with a solid margin, despite the large mass of the car.

6. Salon in light beige looks great, but extremely impractical. Look for dark spots left by dirty boots on light-colored rugs.

Superb Combi is a very modest and not emotional car, it is intended for self-confident people who do not need to prove their "coolness" to others. The all-wheel drive version with a 3.6-liter engine is a car exclusively for a fan of the brand - this is a real sports station wagon, in the spirit of the Audi A6 Avant, but for much less money. For those who need a large family wagon, you need to take a front-wheel drive Superb Combi with a two-liter gasoline or diesel engine, which also costs one and a half times cheaper.

Yes, the most important thing is that the price of the most expensive Skoda is frightening at first glance. It's still almost 2 million rubles. That is why I have never seen a Superb Combi with a 3.6 engine on the roads of Moscow. But on the other hand, quite often you can find a front-wheel drive version with a 2-liter engine and a capacity of 200 horsepower, which costs just over 1.3 million rubles.

In any case, the Superba Combi for this money does not have a single competitor with comparable internal volume, equipment and dynamic characteristics... Another thing is that in Russia, the country of crossovers and SUVs, station wagons are not popular.

Therefore, it is better to forget about trips to the Ryazan region, otherwise you will have to drive at a speed of 30 km / h gritting your teeth and praying that the next blow will not be fatal for the tires. A significant contribution to the discomfort is made by the too large mass of the car - after all, take, for example, even the Octavia RS with tires of the same size (which is 300 kg lighter), and the same road on it will not seem as stressful as on the Superb with a 3.6 engine.

18. Brake discs 345 mm and twin-piston calipers like the Audi S3 are simply excellent. But the "small" low-profile wheels 225 / 45R17 for such a heavy car are categorically not suitable.

Four-wheel drive transmission with a Haldex clutch of the 4th generation has proven itself well both on paved roads (removing the understeer, which is traditional for a front-wheel drive car), and on slippery roads. Technically, the clutch works great off-road, but the Superbu lacks ground clearance.

20. Ground clearance 15 centimeters is enough for driving on paved roads, but you should not move onto unpaved roads after rain.

21. The trunk is the pride of all Octavia and Superb owners. And on the forum of the owners of the latter, an unspoken competition is taking place - who will be able to transport the largest sofa and two chairs in addition in the trunk.

Of the useful equipment, the autonomous heater should be noted, the use of which is difficult to underestimate in the parking lot while waiting for someone (especially since the engine consumes 1.5 liters per hour at idle). For rear passengers, there is not only heated seats, but also such a trifle as an electronic clock and an overboard temperature indicator (there is no separate climate control). Well, the contactless access and engine start system is quite traditional for D-class cars. It is only worth noting that external sensors are installed only on the front handles and the tailgate (the rear doors are devoid of sensors).

25. But there is no rear-view camera even as an optional equipment, only front and rear parking sensors. But there is an automatic parallel parking system (a very useless thing). The glove compartment is lined with velvet from the inside - a hint of the high status of the car. It is also worth noting the excellent sounding of the Sound System (this is again the case when Skoda simply "is not supposed" to install a premium branded speaker system), which consists of only 10 speakers (3x2 in the front doors and 2x2 in the rear) and a separate amplifier - without exaggeration, the sound is very powerful and clear.

26. The front seats, in addition to heating, are equipped with ventilation, only the button for its inclusion looks completely frivolous. Hmm, somewhere I've already seen it ... The undoubted advantages of the Superba Combi are a spacious interior with rich equipment (although there is no limit to perfection), a huge headroom for rear passengers, a large trunk, a powerful engine with an appropriate sports suspension and brakes, and an all-wheel drive transmission.

There are also disadvantages. First of all, this is the lack of emotional design, both outside and inside, and the cheap decoration of some salon elements... Secondly, the lack of high-tech optional equipment (rear view camera, adaptive cruise control), which is quite an important argument in this class of cars.

Thirdly, the most significant in my opinion is that the car feels like it is built to the limit of the chassis capabilities and its large mass, due to a heavy engine with an all-wheel drive transmission and a station wagon (plus powerful brakes that increase unsprung masses) result in very serious discomfort on bumpy roads. And with regular use in such conditions, it can become a reason for frequent suspension repairs.

Therefore, for Superba Combi 3.6, broken roads are categorically contraindicated. For the rest, Superb, like all Skoda cars, is worth its money to the last penny.
