Well, I did just that. The first step was the acquisition of a primitive OBD scanner that transmits data from the on-board computer to the phone via bluetooth. I really liked the idea, but the implementation - no. Firstly, to activate, you need to use TWO devices - a scanner and a phone. In addition to the fact that the phone must first be installed on a tripod, turn on the bluetooth and run the corresponding program (I had Torque lite), you also need to regularly look at the state of the battery. In the active mode of Torque lite, the battery in the phone is consumed to zero in 3 hours. From this, the conclusion is that this option does not suit me. 2. Setting up sound notification. When the car is running, it is necessary to hold the button in the extreme left position for about 3 seconds. The speaker icon appears on the display. This means that a buzzer sound is added to the notification indication. You can remove the sound notification by repeating this procedure.
3. Setting dynamic indicators (displayed when driving)... When the car is running, you must hold the button in the extreme right position for about 3 seconds.

In my case, the voltage range is from 13.2V to 14.5V, depending on the mode of operation of the car. Recently, candles were flooded and the car did not start the first time. I clearly saw how the voltage after each attempt to start fell before our eyes from 14 to 11 V.

How is the reading of the fuel consumption parameters in the car? On one reputable forum, I found an answer that satisfied me: multiply the pulse duration of the injectors by the pressure in the line and multiply by the performance of the injectors. There is, of course, in this formula weak spots, such as contamination of injectors, fuel quality, condition and size of tires ... All this is not taken into account by the on-board computer. However, for me, it is not so much the exact amount of fuel used in liters that is important, but the increase-decrease in consumption depending on the driving style. Initially, the HUD display was not designed for cars at all, but for fighter aircraft of the US Air Force. It was done with one goal - to minimize the time (and this is a fraction of a second) that the pilot takes while he looks at the instruments.

How I caught fire with the HUD display

In general, I liked the Chinese electronics product. Had is assembled very efficiently. The plastic is flush-mounted everywhere. Nothing creaks anywhere.

OBD2 cord is very high quality made. It is made of durable material and resembles wires with a good cross-section in terms of rigidity.

On Moya Lanche, OBD2 interface is supported through a special adapter. But, alas ... the HUD-display did not work. Even after a couple of hours of dancing with a tambourine around this device, they did not bring any results. It's a shame and annoying ... But I don't give up =)
The first thought was that the device itself might not work. Then I decided to try it out on my wife's car. She has a Ford Ka.
After connecting to her car, I exclaimed to myself: Eureka !!! It works !!!
The device actually turned on. Some settings have appeared. With the help of the instructions, I entered the parameters of the car and started it.
The device works, but does not show anything. After about thirty minutes of dead time, HUD began to show the voltage of the car network.

P.S. I am still dealing with this device. Tried connecting it to: Suzuki grand Vitara 2008, Buick Rendevouz 2003, Ford Ka 2007, Mazda CX-9 2007 - but the result is two and not very positive, either does not work at all, or shows the mains voltage.

Projection of gauge readings and navigation onto the windshield is not new for a long time, but this option is still only available for premium cars. For less affluent car owners, there is Alternative option- HUD applications. We decided to download and check what it is: toy programs or real helpers.

For the study, we selected free Android applications (there are analogues on iOS as well), from among the most rated and demanded on Google Play. Thus, the five most popular applications "HUD-navigation" and another top-five "HUD-speedometers" were installed. Go.


Navier HUD

The application is able to position itself with a weak signal from satellites, picking up on cell towers and A-GPS. You can start navigation, or select a speedometer. The map is not displayed on the screen - only a piece of the route line and direction indicators with text tips. Navigation and settings menu are completely Russified. It is possible to choose the color of the speedometer, compass and route indicators. There is a point for setting the screen orientation, but only horizontal works.

The address input is strangely implemented: the program in the form of "hints" takes names from the phone's phonebook and known POIs. Street names do not appear at all, the address must be entered completely manually. Voice search does not work, when you click on the "microphone" there is no reaction. However, the program defines its city (we have St. Petersburg), and you can start right from the name of the street. The fonts in the program are very small, they are hard to see even on a tablet.

Corner HUD

It positions itself very quickly, even faster than Yandex.Navigator. But when entering an address, street names are not prompted, "extra" letters are not darkened. Names from "contacts" or POIs appear. When trying to use voice search, the application crashes with an error. The fonts in the address bar are thin, but large enough and readable. The map is displayed on the screen, it is also available in the HUD mode.

The map is Russified, but the application menu is in English only. The map is schematic, only the main streets are signed (which is absolutely correct for the image that hangs in front of your eyes all the time). But the settings for choosing a color scheme are only in the paid version. The function of a step-by-step text description of the route is also available to everyone. The application can automatically change the orientation of the display, but when you rotate the device, it freezes for three seconds with a dark screen. The app has a lot of embedded ads.

HUDWAY

The closest imitation of real projectors on glass. In HUD navigation mode, an image of the bend in the road is displayed on the screen, an arrow indicates the direction and distance to the bend, and speed data is displayed next to it. Here you can adjust the screen brightness and picture advance (20 m by default). Color settings and hints - only in the paid version.

The program is completely Russified, you can choose maps for work - Google, OpenStreetMap or Yandex. When creating a route, maps are available in their usual form, and in travel mode, the program automatically switches to display for projection on glass. In navigation, horizontal and vertical orientation of the screen is possible (switched manually), when working with the menu and entering an address - only vertically. There is no voice search. The fonts are very small everywhere, there are a lot of ads in the application. In the menu, the program sometimes slows down, but not critical, without long freezes.

Z-NAV and Head-Up Navi

Applications, it is not clear how they got into the thematic section of the most popular and free HUD-navigators. Z-NAV turned out to be a very crooked and braking non-Russified program. But most importantly, it was unable to work in HUD mode - for this, the application required a Bluetooth connection to an additional projector device.

Head-Up Navi can go into mirror mode, but the developers here are very hungry for money. In the free version, only the simplest speedometer is available, everything else (besides, it is not known what) is offered to be bought.

HUD Speed

Attractive speedometer with statistics and large numbers, color settings. But the application sees satellites very badly - it was able to find it in more than 10 minutes! It is very easy to lose touch with them, again looking for a long time. In a stationary position, the speed figure runs all the time within the range of 0 to 10 km h, jumps while driving. The orientation is only horizontal. A lot of advertising.

Speedometer

A simple speedometer, there are color settings, units of measurement. You can see the statistics of the maximum speed and distance of the trip. Display orientation is horizontal only. The app contains ads.

AASpeedometer

Several speed scale options to choose from - digital and analog. It is possible to customize the color, sound warnings about exceeding the set speed. The map is loaded in the application, it is very slow. You cannot build a route here, only view the location. The application has no Russification. There are a lot of advertisements. Some functions (for example, dynamic speed graph) are only in the paid version.

DigiHUD

Digital speedometer without ads. Can be customized maximum speed, enable sound warnings when it is exceeded, set the display color, view statistics. The application menu is Russified, but abbreviations on the display are displayed in Latin.

MyHUD

Aesthetic and beautifully designed application. Large digital scale, many settings. You can set the maximum speed, color change alert, color of individual elements. You can see the weather forecast. No ads. It catches satellites very badly, constantly loses the signal.

What's the bottom line?


It is impossible to deceive the laws of physics: ordinary glasses are unsuitable for projection and during the day nothing is reflected in them, even at maximum screen brightness. In dense twilight and at night, the picture appears, but even here it was still not possible to download premium options for free. Some applications work at the very least, others do very poorly, but all of them are no more than a toy for a couple of days: downloaded, tinkered and deleted.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Preparatory work
1. Find out your type and brand of vehicle. When choosing a vehicle type that must comply with the OBD2 standard, you need to open the hood and find a sticker under it. If the sticker bears the words OBD2 Certified Tool, it means you can install the HUD (Fig. 1).
2. Connect the HUD to the vehicle. The 16-channel diagnostic socket can be found under the steering wheel of the car, above the accelerator pedal. Then connect it to the OBD2 connector (Fig. 2).
3. Lay the non-slip mat in a horizontal position at the front of the vehicle and adjust the angle of the HUD on it.
4. Stick the reflective tape on the windshield of the car above the HUD in order to obtain a high-quality image of the data. You can ask the authorized dealer to stick the reflective tape.
Some tips for sticking film:
A. You can spray water evenly on the windshield with a spray.
B. Please tear off the protective layer of the film and spray some water on both sides of the film. Then install it wherever you want.
C. Squeeze water from under the film on the smooth surface of the object until it is completely removed and the bubbles inside disappear.
E. When the water is squeezed out, you can wipe off the water and dust around the screen.
5. To check the power supply, you need to plug the HUD into the connector and you will see the previous voltage reading. Then enter the state of research of the computer version of the vehicle. After that, we can say that the HUD has been installed successfully.


HUD settings
The HUD display values ​​are the same as those of the vehicle's on-board computer. However, they may differ from the trip computer. You need to put the HUD into customization mode and make some minor adjustments. As a result, mapping to HUD display will match the data of the vehicle indicators. The specific steps are as follows.
Connect HUD to vehicle and start engine. To enter the correction mode, press the control wheel vertically and hold it for 5 seconds. Subsequent pressing of the wheel once adds one. You can set the plus or minus of these parameters by turning the wheel to the left or right. In this case, you should pay attention to how the device is located in relation to you and where at the moment is "left" and where is "right". Without taking this into account, mistakes can be made. Also, be aware that in setup mode, the HUD display does not show the numbers in a mirror image, but in a direct one. This makes working with him in this mode much more convenient.
You can return the display screen to Run mode by pressing the wheel vertically and holding it for 5 seconds, or restarting the HUD. (Fig. 3).

Explanation of the 14th point - fuel consumption.
Setting the data of the conditional (reference) average fuel consumption is determined by the manufacturer for a new car. So, if the factory fuel consumption is 8.7 l / 100 km, then 87 should be set on the HUD.
Clarification of the 15th point. ECU is a protocol of the vehicle's on-board computer. This function is to match (compatibility) the vehicle protocol with the HUD software to prevent errors or deviations. As a rule, the value of this item is set by the computer itself.
Setting the settings:
1.Fast refueling: start the car and set the amount of fuel for refueling by turning the dial of numbers; unit of measure in liters.
2. Explanations of the 11th point. Generally speaking, a car built after 2010 comes with an air flow meter. User can select = 0 to see if fuel consumption is displayed. If no fuel consumption is detected, then set the factory emission parameter.
After setting, press the tuning wheel vertically for 5 seconds to return the display from setting mode to operating mode, or restart the HUD.
Restore factory default settings.
When the HUD is connected to the vehicle, do not start the engine, wait until the HUD turns off. With the engine off and HUD off, turn the wheel to the right and hold it out for 5 seconds. Then you will hear a "tick" sound from the HUD, which means that the factory settings have been restored.
Clearing flaw codes.
When the HUD is connected to the car, do not start the car, insert the key to the "ON" position, and wait for the HUD to go out, turn the wheel to the left and hold it for 5 seconds. You will hear a beep from the HUD, which means that the erasing of fault codes is complete.


General operating settings.
1.Switching the functional zones of the display.
When the car is started and the display interface is working, you can turn the wheel to the left for 5 seconds and you will see the "function zone 1" blinking. Then you can turn the wheel left or right to choose what you want to display. By pressing the wheel vertically, you can enter the section "functional zone 2". By repeating the same steps in the same way, you can enter the 3 "function area. Finally, you can exit these settings by pressing the wheel vertically for 5 seconds.



2. Horn switch
When the car is started and the interface is displayed normally, you can turn the wheel to the left (with the mirror HUD installed - to the right) for 5 seconds, and you will see that the voice signal icon is off. Repeat these steps until the icon is highlighted. Continue these steps until you get the desired state.
3. Setting the value of the signal for the early refueling.
When the car is started and the display interface is working, you can turn the wheel left or right to decrease or increase the number that appears in the speed window. Instead of the speed readings for this time, this window will display the figure for the amount of fuel in liters. For example, turn the wheel until 20 is set. This increases the fuel supply to 20 liters for triggering the alarm. (Note: this function is only valid when the fuel switch in step 13 is set to 0.)
Functional meanings of the instruction

11.Fuel volume value: shows the fuel consumption for the last trip.
12. Numeric dial: multi-function switch. It can be rotated left or right, pressed vertically. With it, you can enter the setting mode by long pressing it vertically.
13. Fuel consumption per hour: shows the instant fuel consumption liters per hour while stationary.
14. Light sensor: senses the intensity of an external light source and adjusts the brightness of the HUD. Automatically adapts to the environment.
15. Fuel consumption per 100 km: shows the instant fuel consumption of liters per 100 km while driving.
16. Throttle position, temperature, UOZ and acceleration to 100 km: voltage - shows the voltage value of the car; throttle valve - shows its position; temperature - shows the temperature of the coolant; UOZ - shows the ignition timing, which is an indicator of the efficiency of the engine; car acceleration up to 100 km / h - shows the car acceleration time up to 100 km / h.
17. Seconds: Displays the unit of acceleration up to 100 km / h.
18. Parameter value: shows the values ​​of voltage, throttle position, water temperature, UOZ and acceleration to 100 km / h.
19. Mileage: the icon is on when there is only 100km of fuel left.
20. RPM: Displays the number of engine revolutions if the parameter is multiplied by 10.

Common problems
Problems; possible reasons; solutions
Overspeed alarm does not work... the setpoint for the speed limit is too high (see points 4 and 5 of the corrections) or the alarm function is closed (see page 4, point 2).
Engine overspeed alarm does not work... setpoint too high or alarm function disabled. Reset the limit value (see point 3 of the adjustments) or turn on the alarm switch (page 4, point 2).
No image on HUD display after engine start... ignition key did not open switch open or poor connection of HUD connectors.
Inaccurate display of fuel consumption... there is no air flow sensor in the car (they have been mainly installed since 2010). Instead of the indicator = 0, set the emission indicators (see paragraph 11 of the adjustments) in accordance with technical characteristics Your car. If they are not there, then you can set the indicator recommended by this instruction = 16.
Engine speed and RPM are not displayed on the display... car's on-board computer or EU port is not OBD2 compliant. Contact the car manufacturer.
Does not show mileage on display. incorrect settings fuel level and fuel consumption is not calibrated. Set the fuel level data source (see paragraph 9 of adjustments) to the position of manual input = 0 and adjust the fuel consumption idle move(see paragraph 2 of the adjustments).
The speed is displayed inaccurately... select the correct speed units - miles / hour or km / hour, they have different numerical values ​​(see page 4, point 1). Calibrate the speed data (see point 0 adjustments).
Only speed and fuel consumption are shown on the display... the speed indicator exceeds the set limit (see point 5 adjustments) or switch the display settings included in the set (see point 6 adjustments) to mode = 1.
