Partial oil change in the Qashqai variator. CVT service on a Nissan Qashqai crossover

1. What the manufacturer says - the manufacturer does not say anything about changing the oil. There is a procedure in the manual, but in the regulations Maintenance she is excluded. More and more, engineers are retreating to please marketers and salespeople. Alas.
But if someone believes that the variator is charged “for its entire service life” - then you don’t have to read further......

2. When to change the oil - everyone chooses for themselves, and whether to change it or not. Because there is no procedure in the regulations. Previous recommendations - partial replacement once every 30,000km and full - every 60,000km
I would recommend changing based on condition, which can be monitored using the aging meter. But no later than once every 60,000 years

This counter counts at the following speeds:
1 unit/min - 90...99 degrees,
2 units/min - 100...109 degrees,
4 units/min - 110...119 degrees,
6 units/min - 120...129 degrees,
8 units/min - 130...139 degrees.

Doesn't count below 90 at all. So if you count 3-4 thousand, or even less, you definitely need to change it. And urgently.
In the manual the old value is 210000, but it is for the old algorithm, when the counter counted below 90 degrees
The counter will not reach this value NEVER. The variator will soon crumble into dust from old age.

So, what do you need to replace it? Clearly, some spare parts

1. Washer - 11026-01M02 - as on all drain plugs - 25 rub.
2. Gasket - 31397-1XF0D - you can use the old one, but seal it with sealant. Price about 1t.r. I still recommend changing it.
3. Mud trap - coarse filter - NOT NEEDED. Washed out. Unless, of course, everything is sad in the variator. Then 2500r
4. Oil litruha 999MPNS300P and 4 liters KLE5300004 or 5 l KE90999943. Or Ravenol NS3. I used 1 (0.964l) and 4 liters - the same thing, Japan. The price is somewhere around 5-6t for 4 liters. I just didn't check the rest. For complete replacement without removing the pan you will need 11 liters. For partial, about 5. With the removal of the pan, another half liter will be added. Therefore, take 12 liters in the first case, 6 in the second, if you plan to remove the pan.
5. Ring for fine filter - 315263VX0A - 100 RUR
6. The fine filter itself is 31726-28X0A 400 rubles or less. Filter size: length 63 mm, diameter 37 mm. 31726-3JX0A will also work ( previous version), which has exactly the same size and shape.
7. O-ring for the mud pan 315261XG0A (old code, therefore more affordable) or 31526-1XZ0C - 100-200 rubles. According to the procedure, it is supposed to be replaced, but you can also install the old one. But when replacing it, we dropped it in the oil and didn’t bother looking for it.
8. Ring for the level control plug - overflow plug 315263VX0B - for aesthetes - 100 rub. Nothing will be done to him if the old one is installed. Regular rubber band.

You also need a lift, 2 people (preferably 3) and very preferably a diagnostic scanner that can show the temperature in the box
If there is no scanner, then the temperature can be measured with a thermometer on the pallet. Precise, digital. Place the sensor on thermal paste or put it in oil through an overflow plug.
After 20-30 minutes of parking - and the car will cool down longer, it will show quite accurately.

The car is raised onto a lift, the bottom plug is unscrewed, and about 3.5 liters of oil are drained.

After this, there are two options - stop the procedure and set the oil level. Since partial replacement has already been made at this point. Or make a complete replacement.

If we do a complete replacement, then we install a new ring under the plug only after 2 oil runs.
Complete replacement - fill in 3 liters of oil (considering that we removed the pan and mud pan - 3.5, and the procedure is designed for a simple drain), run the box by starting the engine and moving the selector through all positions for 5 seconds, turn off, drain, fill in another 3 liters oils, repeat the procedure
It is most convenient to fill oil through the top hole former probe, you will need a small funnel and remove the plug.....

Now we need to set the level..... the procedure is a little bit dreary.
First of all, you need to prepare everything and wait for the temperature in the box to reach 35 degrees. It is important!
It may take a long time to wait. To speed it up, you can blow on the car with a fan.
You may have to wait an hour or an hour and a half if we did not do a complete oil change - then the oil is already more or less cold.

I’ll say right away that it’s probably possible to carry out the procedure for setting the level, as in the service manual, but it’s extremely difficult. The manual says that you need to pour half a liter of oil through the level control plug (overflow plug), then wait until the excess drains out. With the engine running.
At a temperature of 40 degrees.
And the oil heats up rapidly when the engine coolant is above 70 degrees - it goes through the heater.
And such a procedure will take about 5 hours, no less, since after one iteration everything will cool down for another hour and a half.

So we slightly modify the procedure taking into account the presence of a hole for the former dipstick.....

So. We lift the car onto a lift - one in the cabin (will start), one below - unscrew the plug, one on a stepladder near the hood - filler.
Unscrew the level control plug - overflow plug (top left on the valve, you can see it). Slowly add oil until it flows out.
Now the oil has partially filled the GT and when starting it will take another 600-700 ml. We immediately prepare the required quantity.

We start and run the selector through all positions for 5 seconds and set it to P. From this moment on, we need to do everything quickly.
If you have time, check the temperature. If not, she didn’t run away much by this time.
Slowly add oil until it flows out of the plug. Tighten the overlow plug.
All. The procedure is completed. You can travel further without any problems.

In case of a complete replacement, the manufacturer recommends resetting the counter value. In the case of partial - no.
You can reset it by consulting with the officials or its equivalent. Since it’s just a counter, it doesn’t affect anything (the manual says this, by the way, although sometimes even officials pull “tales from the crypt” that if you don’t reset it, there will be problems. Yes, there will be.... it will be difficult to determine the level of oil degradation and the next change), then whether to reset it or not is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Crossovers are a popular class of cars in Russia. This is explained by their improved maneuverability. Considering the quality of Russian roads, this is a weighty argument. Among this group of machines, what stands out is Nissan Qashqai latest generation, released in 2014. The relatively inexpensive cost and availability of this car is explained by the fact that it is assembled in Russian factories.

Brief autobiography of Qashqai

Basic faults

The manufacturer's warranty, unfortunately, does not protect the 2013 Nissan Qashqai transmission from breakdowns. He has his own weak sides, which appear after a significant mileage. How to change transmission lube

During the operation of the Nissan Qashqai, periodic oil changes are required in the variator of the 2013 model. Replacement, according to the regulations, should be made every 60 thousand km. But for Russian conditions It is better to do this after 30-40 thousand km - then the Qashqai CVT will last a long time.

For this purpose, you need to purchase a transmission Nissan oil CVT Fluid NS-2. Its original code is KLE52-00004. To completely replace it in the box, you will need 2 canisters with a capacity of 4 liters each. In addition, you will need to purchase:

  • oil filter, which will need to be changed in the heat exchanger;
  • new CVT crankcase gasket;
  • O-ring for drain plug;
  • coarse mesh filter (in case you can’t wash the old one).

From the tools and available materials you will need:

  • socket wrench 10;
  • funnel for draining oil;
  • a container for old lubricant with a volume of at least 8 liters;
  • liquids for washing the pan and filter (carburetor cleaner and diesel fuel);
  • rags.


Replacement transmission oil in a 2014 Nissan Qashqai, it must be performed in a certain sequence.

  1. It is necessary to warm up the transmission, and then drive inspection hole or on an overpass. A lift can be used for replacement. If there is engine protection, you will have to remove it.
  2. You need to find the variator oil dipstick and check the oil level to know what level you need to fill to. It should be near the “HOT” mark.
  3. Using a 10 mm wrench, carefully unscrew the drain plug from the CVT pan. You first need to prepare a container for draining the waste. Be careful not to burn your fingers - the lubricant is hot. It is important not to confuse the variator pan with the engine crankcase pan.
  4. The oil is drained until it stops flowing completely. We'll have to wait a while.
  5. The CVT pan is dismantled, and after it the coarse filter. To do this, use a 10 key. You need to keep a container nearby - a little more grease will drain out.
  6. The box housing and the magnets on it, as well as the filter, are cleaned of dirt and metal particles with diesel fuel and carburetor cleaner. If the filter does not wash off, you will have to replace it with a new one.
  7. The filter is installed in its place. The pan with a new gasket also needs to be reinstalled. The drain plug with a new copper gasket is screwed in.

Next, the fine filter is replaced. To replace it, you will have to remove the air duct and battery under the hood, unscrew the bolts securing the platform under the air duct. Before doing this, remove the left wheel and partially unscrew the fender liner.

It will be quite difficult to get to the heat exchanger. It should be remembered that oil flows through the thin pipes of the oil cooler, and antifreeze flows through the thick pipes. The oil cooler is unscrewed and the filter located inside is changed.

Finally, all parts and pipes are installed in place. New oil is poured into the dipstick hole through a funnel. This usually takes from 7 to 7.5 liters of lubricant. Periodically you need to check the level with a dipstick oily liquid. Then you need to warm up the engine and transmission well and add lubricant if necessary. If you refer to the maintenance regulations, changing the oil in the Qashqai J10 2.0 variator must be carried out through every 60 thousand km, and given the state of domestic roads - better every 30. Perhaps someone will start a discussion about this, however, whether to change or not is everyone’s business. The oil change procedure is not complicated, and as you can see on the slides, you can do it yourself, but it is unlikely that you will be able to follow all the recommendations. Ideally, at a service, the Nissan Qashqai variator fluid is replaced by removing the oil pan and radiator, cleaning the magnets, washing the iron filter, and at every third replacement it is also worth changing the paper (fine filter is in the heat exchanger) and iron filter (coarse mesh filter cleaning) and resetting the reduction level performance characteristics fluid registered in the ECU of the variator (oil pressure depends on this).

Changing the oil in the variator must be done when the engine and gearbox are warm. And also don’t forget to change the bolt sealing washer drain hole and change the oil filter.

The procedure for replacing Nissan Qashqai CVT fluid requires the following tools and materials:

  • socket wrench “10” (or head) and “19” (unscrew the drain plug);
  • flat screwdriver;
  • container for draining oil;
  • cleaner;
  • clean rags.

It is natural to have:

  • fresh liquid (original code KLE5200004);
  • sealing gasket orig. nom. 31397-1XF0C aka MITSUBISHI 2705A015;
  • sealing washer (no. NISSAN 11026-01M02);
  • a new paper filter cassette for the heat exchanger (original NISSAN 317261XF00 or MITSUBISHI 2824A006), and if the variator filter (coarse cleaning) is very clogged, then you will need it, its original. number NISSAN 317281XZ0D or MITSUBISHI 2824A007;
  • oil cooler housing gasket (no. MITUBISHI 2920A096)
  • funnel.

Once the procedure for changing the oil in the Qashqai variator is completed, it is recommended to use a scanner to reset the oil aging counter.

At self-replacement no matter how much oil is inside 8-9 liters ( front-wheel drive) only 2/3 is drained, so that a third of the old oil is mixed with the new one, which naturally shortens its further service life. That is why it is recommended to change the oil in the variator on a Nissan Qashqai more often than once.

To change the CVT oil, you will need NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2 variator oil, original code KLE52-00004. You will need to purchase 2 canisters of 4 liters each.


Since changing the variator oil is recommended not only by removing the pan and cleaning the magnets, but also by changing the filter, it is recommended to purchase a new pan gasket NISSAN CVT GASKET OIL-PAN with the original number 31397-1XF0C and another brand of small things...

Before changing the oil in the variator, it is necessary to remove the crankcase/gearbox protection according to the manufacturer's instructions or remove back factory shield. Dismantling should be done in a pit, overpass or lift.


To do this, unscrew the 2 10mm bolts on the sides of the fastening to the front of the subframe and remove 4 pistons from the side parts and 1 piston from the front of the subframe.

To remove the pistons, you need to pick up the central part of the piston and pull it down about 8 mm. After this, the piston is easily removed from the hole.


It is convenient to unscrew the bolts with a head, because they are recessed inside the shield. But you can get by with a regular open-end wrench.


When to access engine compartment open, you can begin the actual oil change procedure.


Changing the oil in the variator must be done with the engine and gearbox warm. Before you start draining the oil, you need to remove the CVT dipstick and check the level.


To remove the dipstick from seat on the tube, use a slotted screwdriver to press the locking tab and pull the dipstick up.


On a warm box, the oil level will be above the dipstick marks and tend to the inscription >HOT<.



The drain plug of the Qashqai variator pan is unscrewed with a key set to “19”. By the way, when tightening it back, it is recommended to tighten it with a torque wrench with a force of 35 Nm. Since there is a copper sealing washer under it, and the delicate thread there can be torn off, then you will have to run for a new bolt (no. 3137731X06)

You need to remember that it is better to know how much oil has drained from the box, so that it is easier to navigate when filling. It can take up to 20-25 minutes for the oil to drain from the box.


Once the drainage hole has stopped dripping, you can unscrew the pan itself. We unscrew the fastening bolts, all 18 of them, with a head set to “10”. When removing, be careful, because there will still be oil there (due to the design), so it’s better to unscrew it and leave a few bolts on one side so that all that liquid doesn’t pour out.

There are 2 magnets on the tray. All deposits must be removed from them and the tray wiped clean with a lint-free rag so that no debris gets into the variator. It is important!

When reinstalling an old or new coarse filter, do not lose this sealing ring, many people forget about it and then the filter does not sit tightly, allowing dirt to pass through. Next, after screwing the pan, you will have to get to the fine filter....


To remove the filter from the heat exchanger, it is not an easy job; you will need to dismantle the air duct, the battery, unscrew and put the “brains” aside.


The area that will get in the way is unlikely to be dismantled, but in principle you can do it this way, you can easily reach it by hand, if you can, you can remove the wheel and bend the fender liner and turn it from underneath, but I don’t think it will come to that.


By the way, make sure you don’t mix up the hoses in case you start removing them... otherwise, instead of the varnish fluid, you’ll also start draining the antifreeze.


Unscrew the oil cooler to remove the fine filter. There are 4 10" bolts.

  • oil cooler housing O-ring, original number 2920A096;
  • gearbox oil cooler oil filter, number 317261XF00;
  • variator coarse filter, with original number 317281XZ0D (replaced if necessary and when it is very clogged).
For the original numbers presented, there are similar replacements from various manufacturers, but it is still better to give preference to original parts and fluids; the CVT is no joke.

What oil is required and in what quantity

  • Key for 10;
  • Open-end wrench or socket;
  • Slotted screwdriver;
  • Drain container;
  • Clean rag;
  • Funnel;
  • New lubricant.

Replacement instructions

  1. As we wrote earlier, you will need 2 4-liter cans of lubricant, which you need to acquire in advance. Also decide in advance whether you will change the pallet. So what we do:
  2. Place the Nissan Qashqai over a hole or on a lift.
  3. Before replacement is carried out, remove the crankcase protection. (to do this, you will have to refer to the manufacturer's instructions) Or you can try to remove the factory shield from the back.
  4. Next, unscrew the 2 bolts that are located on the sides and are attached to the front of the subframe. Unscrew the bolts with an open-end wrench or socket.
  5. Now you need to pull out 4 pistons (on the sides) and 1 (in front). How it's done? You need to pry off the part of the piston that is located in the center and pull it down 8 mm, so they will be easier to remove.
  6. When the entrance to the engine compartment has opened, you can proceed directly to this procedure. Check the level before starting. You can check the level by pulling out the dipstick.
  7. Then, after making sure that replacement is necessary, warm up your engine by shifting gears 1-2. You can fill the variator with lubricant and generally begin this procedure only if the engine is warm. Warm up for 5 minutes, and then remove from all gears.
  8. To remove the dipstick from the pipe, you need to press the locking tab with a slotted screwdriver and then pull it up. By the way, in a warm engine the lubricant level is always higher.
  9. After checking and warming up, you can install a drain container under the variator and actually drain the old mixture. It’s better to know the volume that will spill out, because then it will be easier to navigate when filling. Draining will take you 20-25 minutes.
  10. If you still decide to change the pan, then you will need to unscrew it after draining; it is held on by 18 bolts. Remember that grease most likely has leaked into the pan, so be careful when removing it, it will immediately flow out.
  11. There are 2 magnets on the tray, so they need to be wiped with a clean cloth to remove all deposits. This is done to prevent debris from getting inside.
  12. Well, the last thing left is to fill in the new transmission fluid using a funnel. After filling, you need to check the level again; you can pre-warm the engine.
