We will test the summer tires of 195/65 R15 with a speed index H (up to 210 km / h). Among them are models already familiar to us by past tests:, Goodyear Eagle Ventura, Nokian NRH2. And there are newcomers:, Bridgestone Turanza ER70, Hankook Optimo K406 and AGI ST2-65. AGI tires are restored. They are done in Sweden, and externally, they do not differ from new tires - not visible seams, no rubber fringe, which has always decorated our fat tires. That this is still restored tires, only the inscription Retread indicates. And our Commonwealth was represented by the L-8 Bobruian Plant tires with proud stigma Made in Belarus.

Not the first time we come to this test site and each time you admire: ideal conditions for testing! On the perimeter of the landfill, a high-speed highway with a length of 3.3 km was laid for the control of controllability on dry asphalt. Slightly increase the gravel safety fields - and you can conduct races of Formula 1! Inside the rings - a complete set of roads to assess the quality of modern tires.

At the landfill we are not alone. Before side with us, the testes of the company GoodYear are working with us, they are worn as dishtached on "Tryashki" BMW, the smoke is a rocker. In fact, to climb into other people's affairs and ask extra questions here is not accepted here, but later we learned that they completed the tests of the newest Eagle F1 tires (see Art No. 4, 2002). And the Renault test team seems to pick up tires for Espas and lagoon.

We inform about our plans to carry out the braking tests of the dispatcher, which sits on the "Captain Bridge" - in the two-story glass pavilion, from which the entire polygon is visible - and it gives us good. But asks us not to interfere with the guys on the lagoon. Those embraced the "Fifth Wheel" trunk and squeeze there, measure the brake path on the wet asphalt. We will do the same. That's just instead of the fifth wheel, we will put on the roof of our "aggregate" (this is Saab 9-5) an antenna of a small GPS receiver, which allows you to fix the speed with high accuracy and the path passed.

Our methodology for assessing the efficiency of tires when braking on wet asphalt is as follows. At the speed of 85 km / h, the driver enters the water moistened with water and hits the brakes. Under the striking ABS car stops, and the computer fixes the distance traveled during a deceleration from 80 to 10 km / h. On every tires, races are repeated at least 12 times. Now we move to the adjacent strip. It is no longer just wet asphalt, but a huge puddle, and the thickness of the water layer is exactly 7 mm. Now - resistance to the aquaplaning in turn. The following test discipline is a quantitative assessment of tire's coupling in the transverse direction. The car goes in a circle with a diameter of 80 meters, and the asphalt is constantly wetted with water. The best tires recognize that allowed the circle at greater speed. This is Pirelli. Known and the worst.

On the queue - the most interesting: handling on wet asphalt. A winding track with a length of 1,700 meters is irrigated with water. It is pleasant that at the same time wipers can not include - instead of the fountains for wetting asphalt, a complex hydraulic system is applied: tubes and drainage holes are hidden in the grooves along the route. Bundles of running turns alternate with steep turns. In some sections, it is possible to accelerate to 120 km / h, and somewhere you have to postpone up to 20. Three or four circles - and experts enter the protocol subjective assessments of the car manageability on certain tires. At what exactly - experts do not know: they are only informed that "Number one tires" or "Tire number five" are installed. Having finished with "wet deeds", we move on dry asphalt. At first - imitation of the detour of an unexpected obstacle - maneuver "Perestrivka". The tops were the best of Pirelli tires and, both on the basis of expert opinions and on objective results - the speed of execution of the maneuver was maximum. The most difficult thing was to cope with the car on the L-8 tires.

And now - the moonlight part of the program: on the dry track - for all the money!

Accelerations, limit side loads, sliding, braking, again accelerated. On the "straight" stroke under 200. The first AGI tires are surrendered: "Total reasons" - the protector began to squeeze the protector. However, other tires after these races were pretty battered.

Tests are finished? No, we still have a set of new tires. We were accustomed to subjective noise estimation when rolling.
