Compact SUV Ford Kuga 2nd generation, released on Russian market in March 2013, built on a modified Ford Focus 3 platform. Thus, almost all the elements of the crossover’s suspension are “our own”, at the same time, the chassis configuration is familiar: MacPherson struts in the front, multi-link in the rear. Ford engineers endowed the Kuga with a proprietary all-wheel drive system of its own design, called Active Torque Coupling. This scheme is based on the basic front wheel drive and a rear axle connected via a multi-plate clutch. A maximum of 50% of the torque is sent back, and the exact dosage is determined by the control unit, which takes into account the readings of many sensors. A special feature of such a 4WD system, also used on the Ford Explorer, is that it connects rear axle at the moment when it considers it necessary, without waiting for slippage.
Range of engines Russian Ford Kuga, assembled in Tatarstan, has undergone changes more than once during its presence on the market. Today the crossover has the following gasoline engines:
- 2.5 Duratec 150 hp, 230 Nm - a classic, time-tested naturally aspirated engine of Japanese design.

Mechanical transmission is intended only for the turbo-four 1.6 EcoBoost 150 hp, while the automatic is combined with any of the engines.
