Characteristics of the Tagaz machine. SsangYong Korando & Tagaz Tager: damage to reputation

19.11.2021

Tagaz Tager is probably the most controversial representative of the SUV class. Numerous reviews from its owners indicate that they both like it and not. Weak specifications, but at the same time good maneuverability and excellent design. Many advantages, but no fewer disadvantages. Therefore, you can form your opinion only by looking at photos and videos of this car.

At the first glance at Tagaz Tager, you get the impression that in front of you is a true representative of the class. Impressive forms, full content and the characteristic spirit inherent in such . But looking under the hood, you can find a good dozen problems that all domestically produced cars face in one way or another.

History of appearance

The history of this SUV dates back to 1984, when SsangYong company began producing cars for US Army soldiers, and several decades later, on the basis of these cars, a Tager was produced, assembled in Russia at the TagAZ plant

Taganrog automobile plant was opened in 1998. At that time, he did not have time to achieve any success, since a default occurred and the company was forced to “freeze” its activities. In 1999, the first attempt was made to produce a car under the Orion series, but this action did not bring any results and failed before it even began. After this, the plant sets a course for starting cooperation with PSA and Hyndai. As a result, the production of cars is gradually being adjusted and already in 2008, the consumer witnesses the birth of Russian SUV"Tagaz Tager".

Can Tagaz Tager be called an SUV?

Of course. Despite the fact that initially, it was received coldly due to the fact that price category, in which it was announced, there were models with great potential and already proven in the market. But later, drivers still realized that there was something in this car that could appeal to both women and men. Gradually sales began to grow.

There were many reasons for this. Of course, the body of an SUV, which literally hit the Russian market thanks to echoes of traditional US SUVs, which were in great demand in the market of the same name. Thanks to this design decision, the car acquired:

  1. Extended wings.
  2. An elegant yet simple front.

Thanks to the wings, all the originality of the extraordinary appearance is preserved. This decision was certainly made by professionals who know how to combine simplicity and perfection. It was this element that accomplished the impossible, fully justifying consumers’ hopes for the functionality and inconspicuousness of this design solution.

The front part is a source of pride for all owners who bought this car. Most buyers on Russian market have long been accustomed to the ridiculous patterns on the radiator grille and the intricate shape of the headlights. The producers of Tagaz Tager did not want to surprise the consumer with anything, and this is precisely what they were able to amaze everyone with. The fact is that the hood has remained absolutely standard, there are no unnecessary details in it that distract the eye, only a classic appearance, which speaks volumes about how good the classic is.

Advice. Tagaz Tager has increased consumption fuel, if this fact is important for you, then it is recommended to look at other cars of the same price class, which are more gentle on the amount of fuel in the tank.

Car interior trim

In the entire decoration of the car, a tribute to the classics is felt, the simplest forms, uncomplicated patterns, but at the same time, convenience is present in everything. Here is the interior, in the absence of frills, it evokes only admiration. Armchairs upholstered in leather, headrests changing height. The rear seats have removable armrests and visors with mirrors and llama. The floor in the cabin and trunk is velor. The doors are illuminated when opened, just like the ignition switch, cigarette lighter and, of course, the trunk. This is an extremely wise decision by the designers, since the ease of use of the car is felt in everything.

The drive handle is located to the right of the driver. All interior details are made in the same color style. Factory assembly involves light tinting of all windows. A huge plus is the mudguards with a coating that resists. The trunk is small, but can be expanded by folding it rear seats. Again, returning to the topic of convenience, we should note the tailgate, which opens to the left side, which allows you to load from the sidewalk without experiencing any inconvenience.

In general, the salon leaves only positive impressions, many drivers note that despite their dimensions, the cabin is still spacious, which means it’s comfortable to be in. Of course, this SUV also has significant disadvantages, which will be discussed below.

Vehicle characteristics

Don't expect anything unrealistic from this car. technical indicators or other delights. You need to understand that it was created solely to pass where a regular car could not pass, so speed was not even mentioned. , installed in the Tagaz Tager, has a power of 120 hp, so it won’t be possible to race on the track.

It takes 16 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. For modern SUVs, this characteristic is too low, which does not suit the car in any way. Of course, you shouldn’t pay special attention to this parameter, because who in their right mind would need to accelerate from a standstill in an SUV. That's why it's an SUV, to drive through swamps and forests.

Attention! Tagaz produces a modification of the Tager, which has an engine power of 220 hp.

If we talk about the main disadvantages of the car, we cannot help but note huge expense fuel, which will force you to spend a lot of money on refueling. If you are going to drive a car every day and at the same time want to not spend much money on it, then the Tager is not for you. After all, 100 kilometers of driving around the city will “eat up” almost 16 liters of fuel. This figure is simply terrifying and instantly destroys the dream of a cheap car. That is why Europeans practically do not use this SUV and prefer to use their own brands.

Price category

The biggest advantage of the Tager is its cost - 600 thousand rubles. This indicator allows buyers to purchase for little money really standing SUV, which will satisfy them in all respects, except fuel consumption, of course. You need to understand that the car is not as good as many people want, but it can easily satisfy the needs of motorists transporting their family.

In this price category, the Tager has practically no competitors, except for a few notable foreign-made cars. But their technical characteristics leave much to be desired. Of course, when purchasing, you should think about the fact that even small repairs car can cost a lot of money. Indeed, today there are not many mechanics who are ready to undertake the repair of this SUV, and spare parts, most often, need to be purchased from the manufacturer. All this makes car owners spend a lot of money.

Advantages and disadvantages

Car owners who have tried this car agree that before buying, you need to carefully consider the purposes for which you are buying the car. After all, if you want to drive cars quickly, then this is not the option. And lovers of hunting or traveling will find their ideal in Tager. In general, the advantages of the car are as follows:

  • classic American Jeep design;
  • ergonomic and spacious interior;
  • nice price;
  • good off-road performance.

But we should not forget about the disadvantages, including:

  • simply huge fuel consumption, which can negatively affect the budget of many families;
  • weak, by today's standards, engine;
  • a lot of noise in the cabin;
  • maintenance costs, sometimes exceeding all reasonable limits;
  • small trunk.

Based on the pros and cons, you can form your opinion about this car and decide whether to make a purchase or not.

For that kind of money Tagaz Tager is excellent SUVs, the performance of which makes it possible to travel equally well where there are no roads and where they exist. Fuel consumption is extremely high, and the parts are expensive, but usually this does not bother drivers too much, since they have long understood that using a car is always associated with costs.

Video review of the Tagaz Tager car

The TagAZ Corporation is trying to regain its position in the market and maintain its existence by releasing literally several models. The company was actually on the verge of closure two years ago, but today Tagaz Tager was on the path to improvement and renewal. An SUV with a few new interior features should win over a large number of buyers, gain some respect among Jeep enthusiasts, and sell in large enough quantities to save the enterprise.

Of course, people won’t buy cars in Russia simply out of patriotic aspirations, so it’s better for the corporation to offer something worthwhile to the buyer in the form of a Tager. Otherwise, we will have to return to the idea of closing the enterprise, which we would not want even for reasons of competition. This allows us to reduce prices for Russian cars, and also complements the range Russian jeeps , which is very nice to realize when studying the model range.

Exterior and body of an SUV in the 2015 model year

Let's be honest, the car in the photo has not changed at all. No changes were noticed in either the 3-door or 5-door versions, but the manufacturer claims a slight restyling. In branded photos and videos, the car looks quite relevant, dignified and expresses its readiness to conquer off-road conditions. But in reality, Tagaz Tager turns out to be a rather outdated car, which has a number of visual shortcomings:

  • the visual price and relevance of the car are at a low level, but the SUV does not need elegance;
  • the interior of the Tager is made somewhat carelessly, although the materials are in complete harmony with the tasks of the car;
  • I don’t really want to talk about the quality of all the little things, this is far from the most strong point models;
  • there is very little modernity in the jeep called Tager, the car has not changed since its development at SsangYong;
  • The Tagaz company has a very dubious assembly, which manifests itself on some copies of the car.

If you want to buy a Tagaz Tager, it’s better to first take the car for a long test drive. Judging by the reviews of the owners, not every motorist will feel good in this car. But owner reviews about Tager are just the opinions of other people. Compose your picture of this SUV and understand how interesting it is in your situation. Perhaps this particular model of the Russian automobile industry will cover all the needs of using transport.

Technical characteristics and test drive TagAZ Tager

We can talk about the technical characteristics of SUVs from Russia for quite a long time. Jeeps are quite old, have not been updated for decades and do not provide high quality and pleasure from the trip. Reviews from owners do not stop scolding the Tagaz Tager, especially for its amazing set of equipment. The basic SUV engine is available with two types of manual transmissions, and a test drive does not allow us to understand which one is better. The main technical characteristics of the current Tagaz are as follows:

  • Tager has a 2.3-liter in its base Gas engine, with an impressive capacity of 150 Horse power;
  • there is also a 2.9-liter diesel power unit producing 129 horsepower;
  • Another 3.2-liter gasoline unit with a capacity of 220 horsepower is also available;
  • the latest engine is a modern, economical 104-horsepower diesel engine with a volume of 2.6 liters;
  • automatic in Tagaz Tager is present only in the most powerful version with a large engine;
  • four-wheel drive presented in all trim levels except the basic one; for the start, Tagaz offered rear drive wheels.

Tiger with this technology looks very confident among his competitors. Strong units, a huge selection, but a very unclear gradation of offers - this is what you will have to face when buying a Tager. The technical characteristics are quite consistent with the price of the car, but a lot negative reviews owners are forced to be extremely careful about the test drive process and getting to know the car in the showroom.

Options and prices

SUV in showrooms official dealers can actually be purchased quite cheaply. The basic version of the car costs 520,000 rubles. But for this money you will not get all-wheel drive, and the engine will be extremely difficult to control with a very simple gearbox. Therefore, we can assume that a jeep is sold from 600,000. For a good unit with high power and an automatic transmission you will have to pay 675,000 rubles, which is quite normal. Tiger has the following additions to the package:

  • good differential, enough efficient system all-wheel drive vehicle;
  • fuel tank Tager has 70 liters - enough gasoline or diesel for a long trip;
  • the presence of ABS, effective disc brakes and adjustable seat belts increases safety;
  • even the base version has an airbag for the driver, and in other versions of the SUV there is also one for the passenger;
  • immobilizer, central locking, air conditioning, electric windows - good basic options;
  • adjustment driver's seat the height and other amenities begin to surprise when studied.

So many things at a reasonable price - this is an interesting offer. It should be noted that the Tager is not a Chinese SUV; the Russian offer is of passable quality. The company’s offer also includes a 5-door version of the off-road vehicle with a price starting from 730,000 rubles. Photos and videos with this version are filled with some more frank confidence of journalists. However, the short wheelbase of the regular Tagaz Tager is also good.

Let's sum it up

Quite good and varied technical characteristics, frankly good equipment and quite an interesting cost - such advantages of the Tagaz Tager can really change the features of promoting the car on the Russian market. But the success of transport is far from guaranteed. It is necessary for owner reviews to become more favorable to the car.

When you go for a test drive with the thought of buying this car, you can find many advantages in the Tagaz Tager, but also remember that there are plenty of disadvantages in this car.

In 2008, the Taganrog Automobile Plant began production of the three-door Tagaz Tager SUV, a licensed copy of the Korean model. In 2009, a five-door version of the car, developed by the Korean engineering division of TagAZ, entered the production line (the Korando did not have a five-door version).

“Tagaz Tager” had a design traditional for utilitarian SUVs: a frame, a solid rear axle, a rigidly connected all-wheel drive with a reduction gear. Licensed Mercedes ones were installed on the car. power units Korean made.

The basic version of the SUV had a 2.3-liter gasoline engine producing 150 hp under the hood. With. in combination with a manual transmission, and the drive could be rear or all-wheel drive. The Tagaz Tager with a 3.2 inline six-cylinder engine (220 hp) had a four-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. There were also two turbodiesels in the range: a four-cylinder with a volume of 2.6 liters (104 hp) and a five-cylinder with a volume of 2.9 liters (120 hp) - they were equipped with “mechanics” and an all-wheel drive transmission.

In 2009, prices for rear-wheel drive Tagaz Tager 2.3 started at 470,000 rubles; the basic equipment of the car included a driver's airbag, ABS, air conditioning, power accessories, alloy wheels Six-cylinder option gasoline engine cost from 625,000 rubles.

Demand for the Tager turned out to be very modest: for example, in 2009, 2,462 copies of the model were sold. However, many buyers complained about low quality Assemblies of, say, gearboxes of some versions had to be returned en masse to the factory for repairs.

TagAZ itself experienced serious financial problems in those years and gradually reduced production volumes, and the production of Tagers finally ended in 2012.

Preparing this material was more difficult than usual: the majority of official TagAZ dealers took up a defensive position, not wanting to share information. But you can’t hide it in a bag - all the Tager’s problems are well known and are actively discussed on the Internet. Both the Korando and the Tager are built on proven Mercedes units and are truly as similar as two peas in a pod. But not from the point of view of reliability, which is what we’ll talk about today.

TRANSITION PERIOD

The most painful issue for Tager owners, known from the very beginning of the model’s release, that is, since 2008, is poor reliability manual transmission gears on cars with gasoline engines ( ZR, 2010, No. 8 ). Driving with such a box is often unsafe.

For example, if you need to shift to a lower gear in order to slow down the engine, you will be faced with a difficult task: the lever will hit an invisible barrier due to the difference in shaft speeds, which is to blame for the synchronizer not coping with its duties, usually in second or third gear. If you still manage to engage the gear, the unpleasant crunching noise emitted by the gearbox discourages you from even touching the lever. Easier than that who knows ancient techniques - re-gasping and double squeeze clutches, but master them on modern car, which was also purchased for a lot of money, is hardly acceptable.

The owners demanded that dealers replace the unit. But they were not ready. Why, dealers, TagAZ itself found itself in a difficult situation: the plant had to allocate a separate workshop, where 183 failed boxes were repaired in the first nine months - almost every fifth! The synchronizers of the second, third and fourth gears, complete with clutches, were changed, but often this did not help: the repaired unit soon began to crunch again.

Some owners have had the box replaced four or five times! Meanwhile, TagAZ, unable to cope with the repairs, came up with the idea of depriving the owners of the warranty due to allegedly improper operation of the car: they say, you should not change gears at rpms above five thousand. But the instruction manual contains no such restrictions, so the matter sometimes ended up in court. As a rule, decisions were in favor of the owners - of course, at the cost of frayed nerves. To be fair, we note that the plant recognized the defect as widespread and even publicly apologized to the owners.

TagAZ, after all, also found itself hostage to the current situation, since SanYong hid the scale of the problem and was in no hurry to solve it. It seems that the agreement between the enterprises did not provide for any sanctions in case of delivery of defective components. The Koreans took advantage of this: according to rumors, to reduce costs they transferred the production of some units, including gearboxes, to China. Indirect confirmation of these rumors is the fact that the Korean markings disappeared from the crankcase.

As it turned out later, the problem was not only in the synchronizers, but also in the misalignment of the shafts. One of the Ekaterinburg companies learned how to eliminate this defect. There, all the filling is removed from the box and, having assembled the crankcase parts, the bearing beds are processed in one step. And in order to fix the outer ring with tension, additional bushings are pressed into the bed. And only then they install new clutches and synchronizers. There are no complaints about gearboxes finished in this way, but not every owner is ready to travel thousands of kilometers for repairs.

ADVENTURES ELECTRONICS

With the advent of autumn 2008, other difficulties began: at temperatures just below zero, the Tager’s gasoline engine could only be started on the fifth or sixth attempt. By the way, there was no such problem on Korando. It turned out that the Koreans, adapting the control unit program to our climate and gasoline, made a slight mistake with the settings: due to the short pulse to the injectors, the mixture turned out to be too lean.

The defect was eliminated by changing the parameter fuel characteristics from one to four and adjusting the temperature coefficient. The units were reflashed for free, under warranty. There was just one catch: not every dealer had necessary equipment. On the first Taggers in the T5 configuration, the engine cooling fan was constantly running. This defect was sorted out quite quickly - it turned out that the contacts needed to be swapped. By the way, the TagAZ dealer network is also his sore spot. There are known cases when, during installation additional equipment at branded service stations they managed to blow up the squibs of seat belt pretensioners. TagAZ even had to terminate contracts with some sellers.

MOTHERLAND WILL HELP

All these problems have hardened the owners, and now they are actively discussing on the Internet what domestic analogues suitable instead of the capricious original. Some all-terrain vehicles have rear suspension UAZ springs are already working, which are a little stiffer than the original ones, thanks to which we managed to raise back body by 55 mm (this was a good help on the roads).

In order to have enough rebound travel of the shock absorbers, they are replaced with “Volgov” shock absorbers. It is only important to remember that this does not increase the vehicle’s carrying capacity. It’s a pity that an adequate replacement for the factory axle shafts has not yet been found rear axle, which, it seems, are also Chinese - with a decent “egg” in the area of the working surface of the oil seal. Therefore, oil leaks brake mechanisms after 20 thousand km - a common thing. Moreover, there are practically no original axle shafts on sale, and if they are available, they are three times more expensive than usual.

DROP BY DROP

There are no special problems with the engines. True, TagAZ distinguished itself here too: while on the Korean SanYong-Korando with an OM662 series diesel engine the turbocharger served quite reliably, on the Tager it sometimes leaks oil. The defect did not become widespread, but where did it come from on a seemingly proven design? Apparently, the unknown origin of the unit, this time the turbine, is having an effect again.

There is another defect on five-door Taggers: by 50–80 thousand km the rear windshield wiper axle may become sour. We recommend that you take it apart and lubricate it at the first sign that the brush begins to crush the glass. More serious problems also occur.

On a car that visited our editorial office a year ago ( ZR, 2010, No. 6 ), cracks were found on the frame in the area of the rear left suspension arm. What load-bearing part It didn’t break in half, we consider it a credit to our test group for detecting the defect in time. But everything could end sadly! There are no other complaints about the chassis.

Perhaps only the resistant ones are recognized as relatively weak front stabilizer- after 40–50 thousand km, if you please, change it. Ball joints, silent blocks, steering rods and ends sometimes serve more than 180 thousand km. Depending on your luck with the wheel bearings. The range in service life is in order: from 20 to 200 thousand km. Here, by the way, Chinese components are superior to Korean ones.

Rear axle in the version with disc brakes: the stockings are still dry, but sometimes they begin to sweat oil after a mileage of 2–3 thousand km. The input shaft of the gearbox sweats here, which is not typical.

Rear axle version with disc brakes: the stockings are still dry, but sometimes they begin to sweat oil after a mileage of 2–3 thousand km. The input shaft of the gearbox sweats here, which is not typical.

Both “Korando” and “Tager” cannot be called full-fledged heroes of this section, since the first is already old, and the second is too young. Therefore, we present the third table without the traditional calculation of the cost of costs per kilometer ( ZR, 2011, No. 1 ). These machines go beyond the accepted methodology; we decided to talk about them only out of a desire to draw the attention of manufacturers to the need for a more competent choice of models for our market. So that simplified technologies do not undermine consumer confidence in a long-known model.

The TagAZ company is a large Russian manufacturer of cars. The main plant is located in the city of Taganrog. The company began its work quite recently - in 1998. It was planned that he production capacity must cope with the production of 180,000 cars per year. The first significant step in the development of this brand was the start of collaboration with the Korean concern Hyundai. The result of cooperation was the first cars Hyundai Accent, which the world saw in 2001. After 3 years, the company mastered the production of a business class sedan Hyundai Sonata. In 2007, the production of the crossover begins Hyundai Santa Fe Classic, and a year later - Hyundai Elantra XD, C-class sedan. In addition, the production of commercial vehicles gradually developed. Today, the range of machines produced at the plant has expanded even further. TagAZ still assembles several Hyundai models, as well as its “own” models of SUVs and passenger cars, which are also licensed and were previously produced in Korea under the SsangYong brand and in China under the Chery brand.
