Comparison of technical characteristics of Rosneft and Lukoil motor oils. How and from what are Gazpromneft and G-Energy oils made? We inspect the Gazpromneft-SM plant in Omsk Which oil is Lukoil or Gazpromneft

30.10.2021

It cannot be said that Rosneft oils have impeccable technical characteristics. But it is worth considering the price segment in which the products of this manufacturer are located. Thanks to good quality, wide range and affordable price, Rosneft are in great demand. The company also signed an agreement with the Russian company AvtoVAZ in 2012, and now its products are used in car engines that come out of the concern’s assembly line. So, today many drivers use lubricants of this brand without even realizing it.

A few words about the company

Rosneft is the leader of the domestic oil industry, as well as one of the largest companies in the world. The subsidiary RN-Lubricants of this giant is engaged in the production and sale of oils for passenger cars and commercial vehicles and even for industrial equipment.

In the ranking of the additive manufacturing company in Russia, Rosneft takes first place and produces more than 300 types of products for cars. If we take the entire lubricants market in Russia, then Rosneft’s share in it will be 19%, which is quite a lot. There are 5 factories in total across Russia.

Brand oils are a product of joint development of the company, employees scientific enterprises and car manufacturers. The main Rosneft products that are supplied to the market are: Premium synthetics, Optimum mineral oil, Maximum semi-synthetics, as well as Express flushing composition. Note that the company includes special additive bases, thanks to which the product retains its characteristics throughout its service life. All oils meet the requirements of European standards and are adapted for different operating conditions. The company takes the production process and quality control quite seriously, from oil production to the sale of the final product to consumers.

Review of Rosneft oils

As we have already said, there are 4 categories of oils that are supplied to the market: Premium, Maximum, Express, Optimum. Each category has its own specific products with unique features, and they are suitable for different types engines.

Premium

This category includes only one Rosneft oil - synthetics with a viscosity class of 5W40. The composition includes a package of additives, making this product ideal for use in VAZ cars. These oils can also be used in engines of European manufacturers. This product is supplied to the market in canisters from 1 to 4 liters.

Advantages of this Rosneft oil:

  1. It has a high viscosity index and retains its lubricating properties even at low outside temperatures. Therefore it can be used in winter time, ensuring easy engine starting at low temperatures.
  2. Provides high level reliability of the engine, creating the necessary oil film under any operating conditions.
  3. Fights deposits on engine parts throughout the entire operating life, which increases engine life.
  4. Protects friction pairs from wear and is shear stable.
  5. It is highly compatible with engines that run on gasoline with a high sulfur content.
  6. It has low consumption due to the lack of evaporation.
  7. Has high resistance to oxidation.

Please note that this product is suitable for use in new engines. The "Premium" category is intended for use in highly accelerated, most modern engines running on diesel fuel or gasoline, as well as those with turbocharging. The oil is equally effective in domestic cars, as well as in models from European and American manufacturers.

Rosneft Maximum oils

The Maximum line has a lower cost and base. This includes several products of different viscosities. The Maximum line also includes lubricants based on semi-synthetics. Rosneft oils in this category are represented by two products - with a viscosity of 5W40 and 10W40.

Maximum 5W40

This is an all-season, universal oil on a semi-synthetic basis. It includes a balanced package of additives from global manufacturers, thanks to which the product has received anti-corrosion properties and thermal stability, antioxidant and dispersant properties.

The product is intended for use in gasoline engines with turbocharging, as well as in diesel power plants domestic and foreign production, whose instructions prescribe the possibility of using oils of this quality level. Note that oil with a viscosity of 5W40 is ideal for use in Russia, because the temperature range of the product is wide: -30 to +35 degrees.

Reviews of Rosneft 5W40 oil are mostly positive. In particular, buyers highlight the following advantages:

  1. Affordable price compared to other oils with the same viscosity.
  2. Economical consumption. The oil does not go to waste, and its level practically does not change from replacement to replacement.
  3. Easy engine starting even in severe frosts.
  4. Maintains optimal pressure even under heavy loads and high speed motor.

The manufacturer also claims that the oil prevents deposits on engine parts, but the average owner is unlikely to be able to check this.

Maximum 10W40

This is also an all-season semi-synthetic oil with a special additive package. Its main difference from the previous one is the viscosity of 10W40. This means that the product is denser. Like the previous lubricant in the line, this one can also be used in summer and winter. True, the operating temperature range is different. If an oil with a viscosity of 5W40 can operate at a temperature of -30 degrees, then 10W40 will thicken at a higher temperature - around -20 degrees.

Below is a graph of oil viscosity indicating their operating temperature ranges.

In all other respects, Maximum 5W40 oil is almost no different from Maximum 10W40. Both products have anti-corrosion properties, thermal stability and approved by Avtovaz OJSC.

Category Optimal

Mineral-based oils fall into this category. They contain multifunctional additives. These products are intended for all-season use, and they are suitable for use in carburetor engines, as well as in injection engines, running on diesel fuel, gas and gasoline.

Rosneft oils of the Optimal category are supplied to the market with the following viscosity parameters:

  1. 10W30.
  2. 10W40.
  3. 15W40.

All of them boast increased antioxidant stability, providing protection against engine corrosion and various types of deposits. When operating within their temperature ranges, the products will ensure normal engine starting.

Flushing oil "Rosneft" Express

This product is also mineral-based and contains a large package of effective detergent additives. It is intended for quick flushing of gasoline and diesel engines from deposits that necessarily form during operation. It is recommended to use the Express product when changing the oil, as well as after using the lubricant for too long, for preventive cleaning of engines.

The process of using this "flush":

  1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
  2. Completely drain the used oil.
  3. Fill with Express oil. The volume should be standard. The entire oil system must be filled.
  4. Start the engine at idle speed and let it run for 15 minutes.
  5. Drain the used fluid. Pay attention to the color. If the oil darkens significantly during these 15 minutes, this indicates effective engine cleaning.
  6. Change the oil filter and refill with fresh oil.

Assortment of motor oils domestic production has been growing rapidly lately. Therefore, car enthusiasts are often interested in forums: “How to choose the best domestic oils?” We decided to indicate the advantages and disadvantages of well-known Russian brands of motor oils: Lukoil, Rosneft, Gazpromneft, TNK. For comparison, we will select synthetic oils with the same viscosity 5w-40 and determine what technical characteristics differ motor mixtures these manufacturers.

You'll ruin the porridge with oil! If the oil is from the wrong barrel and not for its intended purpose...

Have you ever wondered why Russia has such a truly Russian attitude towards everything Russian? That is, AvtoVAZ is firewood, UAZ is scrap metal, GAZ is a minibus, and all patriotism ends faster than the word “patriot” sounds in the Luxembourgish language. These are three letters, if anything, but not what they write on the fence.

The collapse of the USSR and the first years of “young” Russia took their toll, and many cooperative bullies openly tarnished the reputation of all Russian production. Some still continue to cheat without fear of the punishing hand of justice and conscience, but we are not talking about them.

I asked for an opinion on which engine oil to choose for the domestic SUVs UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup. Moreover, he emphasized the word “domestic”, but no one made an associative series: Russian car- Russian oil. They suggested everything, even some exotic names, more like the name of a newly formed country somewhere in Africa.

Breaking stereotypes is a difficult and thankless job. Moreover, ten years ago I would have looked at myself today with a good dose of sarcasm: Russian oil? Don't make my horseshoes funny (c). But now I seriously want to evaluate the oil market Russian production. Great topic for research!

Who is first?

I drove to the nearest gas stations. Among domestic brands, oils from Gazprom, Rosneft, TNK and Lukoil are offered. Surely there is someone else, but their gas stations were not within my reach.

Why did you look at gas stations? Because, for example, I’d rather buy TNK oil at a TNK gas station than at Uncle Vasya’s spare parts store. I won’t explain why, everything is clear here. I don’t have any other trusted stores nearby.

The websites of oil manufacturers are somehow not full of information and this is a big omission. On the official page of Rosneft I found information that oils of this brand, according to statistics, occupy a third of Russian oil production. Third! And this is not counting the fact that the TNK brand can also be considered an asset of Rosneft. Therefore, let's start our research with it.

I’ll say right away that politics and personalities in this context are not interesting to me at all. What’s interesting is what’s on store shelves, how and where it’s produced, and whether there’s a reason to choose one product or another.

Butter oil?

A little education: Commercial oil, that is, oil packaged in a jar and displayed on the sales floor, consists of a base oil - a base and a complex of additives. That is, all terms like “washing”, “absorbing”, “increasing the compression of an aging unit”, these are all properties not of the oil itself, but of what is added to it.

In even more accessible language, the story that the oil is great for your engine because... (further according to the situation) relates exclusively to marketing and simplifying processes. With the same effect, you can just buy good, pure oil and add ingredients to it to suit your taste: even a jar of “compression”, or even a bowl of “washing powder”. Explained clearly?

Naturally, to make our life easier, manufacturers produce oil with a packaged composition of additives responsible for certain properties of the oil. Agree that it will be very inconvenient to buy oil and add additional options to it. Although, someone with a lot of free time would definitely like it.

The Rosneft website contains information about the factories where all lubricants companies. There are five such factories and all are located in Russia. I even found literature for official use with comments on Rosneft oils.

The service brochure explains the composition of the additives to white and blue dealers and mentions patent-protected foreign components. That is, the oil contains the same components that are used by foreign brands. The only difference can be in their composition, since any commercial oil is a set of components. I already wrote about this.

Here I have a question: who can better select oil and lubricant components for operation in Russia - focused on Russian market manufacturer or making universal oil for the whole world? The question is purely theoretical. I'm interested in your opinion.

There is a lot in the list of Rosneft products. There are even positions that are not entirely clear to me. For example, transformer oil, the purpose of which I vaguely understand. Most likely just for cooling and protection against corrosion. I'm interested in car oil.

We don’t pour everything that pours!

All my cars use synthetic oil, so I will pursue my selfish interests and study synthetics. If someone is interested in something else, the Internet will provide many times more information than I can.

Rosneft Premium synthetics comply with API SM/CF and are approved by Wolksvagen. Moreover, there is information that this oil is approved by Wolksvagen and Daimler AG for use in cars with increased service mileage. This interested me and I will explain why.

If anyone doesn’t know, UAZ has changed the frequency of maintenance of brand vehicles and, accordingly, oil changes from “every 10,000 kilometers” to “every 15,000 kilometers”. This corresponds to the service mileage of many foreign cars and means that even greater demands are placed on the quality of the oil. It turns out that such approval comes in very handy.

The description of the oil indicates that it can be used in engines running on fuel with a sulfur content of up to 0.5%.

This is relevant for Russia, since when traveling it is not always possible to refuel at branded gas stations, and not at their color-coded counterfeits. And what is being poured there is a big question.

Theoretically, the corresponding API SL/CF and AvtoVAZ-approved Rosneft Maximum semi-synthetics would also fit without question, but I will still stick to synthetics for my purposes.

It is interesting that in the description of semi-synthetic Maximum there is an indication of protecting the engine from leaks. That is, we remember the process of manufacturing commercial oil and understand that the manufacturer intends to use it in old and worn-out engines and has taken measures by adding the appropriate additive.

Would an import manufacturer do this? Probably yes, but in a special oil.

How to monitor the oil?

They say that some mechanics can tell the bad condition of the oil by taste, but I don’t want to learn this. I check the condition of the engine oil exclusively visually, by touch and by smell. This is very inaccurate and rather just to calm the soul. It will be completely suspicious - we will go to change the oil before the scheduled time.

Naturally, if there is any heterogeneity in the oil, it smells like burning or there are foreign inclusions in it, this means possible problems. This is especially true for SUVs actively used off-road. Water getting into the oil guarantees the appearance of an emulsion and it is better to hurry up with replacing it.

Especially, it is worth checking the oil for the presence of emulsion in axle gearboxes, gearboxes and transfer case, if you recently took a deep dive into water, and the units do not have higher breather outlets. I prefer to change the oil more often than specified in all units and without the presence of an emulsion. The reliability of the car when traveling is more important than saving money, which can turn out to be more expensive.

As conclusions.

If you scour the Internet, you can find research from the magazine “Behind the Wheel” dated 2011, where laboratory studies revealed that domestic oils provide greater protection, while imported ones are environmentally friendly. By the way, then Rosneft oil received a very good rating.

Five years have passed since then, but my thoughts about greater attention to engine protection in adverse conditions are confirmed by third-party findings.

Another reason could be the price. On average in the market, Rosneft Premium synthetics are 1.5-2 times cheaper than most foreign analogues. As for other types of oils, everyone is free to do their own research and I think the price tag will also differ.

For some, the above information may already be enough to draw their own conclusions. Russian manufacturers have stepped forward and use modern technologies and formulations, which means there is reason to believe that Russian oils are no worse than their analogues.

Then it’s a matter of additives, but, returning to the question of their selection, it is not a fact that oil manufactured for Europe is also good for the realities of our country. I don’t wear rose-colored glasses, but I have the desire and reason to believe that high-quality products can be made in Russia.

That's all about Rosneft oils. I still have time to choose what I will put into my engine. There is time to evaluate what other manufacturers offer. I'll look, compare, and come back to this post. In any case, I believe that domestic producers should be given a chance, and not thrown into the well of stereotypes.

Therefore, I have a question for you:

What kind of oil do you pour into your engines and can you trust domestic manufacturers?

Modern motor oils provide not only effective engine lubrication, but also its cleanliness and cooling. This is provided that a lubricant that meets the tolerances recommended by the manufacturer is used. But not all motorists adhere to these rules, which leads to the most dire consequences. In this article we will look at Gazprom Neft oil, consumer reviews, approvals and other useful information.

general information

As already noted, a quality product in mandatory must be certified. The presence of anti-counterfeit protection on the packaging also plays a role. Today, expensive branded oils are often counterfeited, selling them at a more affordable price. Many fall for this. As a result, the lubricant loses its effectiveness after just a few thousand miles. It practically does not remove carbon deposits, since they save significantly on the additive package, and in general the engine will run much worse on it.

That is why we can say that expensive is not always high quality and vice versa. A striking example of this is Gazpromneft oil. Consumer reviews are mostly positive, and this despite the low cost. The thing is that the more well-known the manufacturer, the more expensive such a product is, although it may not stand out with any special features compared to cheaper oils.

Viscosity and classification

First of all, you need to be able to select the correct viscosity of the engine oil. Often, the manufacturer specifies not only this parameter, but also provides a specific lubricant. If you follow these simple recommendations and don’t complicate things, the car’s power unit will thank you in the form of long-term, uninterrupted operation. On some brands of cars, the appropriate viscosity is indicated on the oil filler cap.

API classification of engine oil is also very important. The fact is that modern diesel and gasoline engines require a certain additive package, which is not necessary for older engines. For example, the API SM conformity mark was approved in 2010 and is suitable for the most modern gasoline internal combustion engines. There are also anti-oxidation additives and much improved viscosity characteristics at low temperatures. Now let's move on.

About the company "Gazpromneft"

This company appeared in 2007; it is a subsidiary of the oil producing company Gazprom. In just a few years of work, we managed to achieve high sales. So modern lubricating oils Gazpromneft is in demand not only in the Russian Federation, but also in countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and others.

Currently, Gazprom Neft motor oil, reviews of which we will consider, boasts a wide range. There is plenty to choose from for both domestic and foreign cars. Moreover, the company produces oils not only for cars, but also for trucks, which is an additional advantage. There are usually no problems with the choice, since it is really huge. Can be found suitable option both for modern diesel engines and old domestic gasoline engines.

Gazpromneft motor oil: reviews and types

Consumer opinions boil down to the fact that lubricants from this manufacturer are much less likely to be counterfeited. This is due to the low cost of motor oil, therefore such counterfeit products are not very profitable. It is much more profitable to fake Motul or Castrol. That is why many people prefer domestic manufacturers, since there is confidence in the authenticity, and therefore, the characteristics will be close to those indicated on the packaging.

Currently, the most popular oil is Gazpromneft 5w40 (synthetic). Reviews confirm the high quality of the product. In addition, the manufacturer talks about the following advantages:

  • good additive package;
  • reduced fuel consumption;
  • effective cleaning properties;
  • protection of internal combustion engines from corrosion;
  • minimum waste consumption.

Moreover, all this has been confirmed laboratory research, which is extremely important. This is due to the fact that in some cases the characteristics indicated on the manufacturer’s website do not always correspond to reality. It is worth noting that 5w40 synthetics are suitable for use in diesel and gasoline engines of cars and trucks. Can also be used for motors with API class SM/CF.

Claimed benefits

The Gazpromneft company is responsible for the quality of its products and values its reputation, so lubricants have a good quality base. The low cost, which is often off-putting, is due to the minimum cost, which is achieved through the use of modern technologies in production. In addition, the manufacturer provides a guarantee for the protection of the internal combustion engine in any operating mode if it is replaced in a timely manner.

There is also a separate category "Long Life", which provides for a longer oil operating interval without loss performance characteristics. It costs a little more, but it fully pays for itself, since the lubricant in the internal combustion engine needs to be changed somewhat less frequently. Gazprom Neft 5w40 oil also boasts decent viscosity-temperature characteristics. Synthetics, reviews of which we will consider later, are recommended for the efficient operation of the catalytic converter. This lubricant extends the life of the particulate filter, which fails precisely because of the low quality of fuel and oil.

Oil "Gazpromneft" 5w40: reviews from motorists

For the most part, they talk about low cost and decent quality. Drivers often compare it with Lukoil. The latter costs a little more, but does not stand out in any way. In addition, this is an extremely relevant choice for the Far East and northern regions. Drivers note that even at low temperatures it does not thicken much and allows them to start the engine without any problems.

Previously, the company was aimed at selling lubricating motor and transmission oils to large automobile factories, single production was rare. Now the situation has changed radically. At almost every gas station you can find Gazpromneft 5w40 oil. Consumer reviews often boil down to the fact that if you use a lubricant from a given manufacturer for a long time and observe replacement intervals, then everything will be fine. For example, at 5w40 the engine runs quieter, the operation of the hydraulic compensators is almost inaudible.

Semi-synthetic base

This type of motor oil is mostly used in domestic cars and old foreign cars. It is also used on cars such as UAZ and others. Overall, it is a very worthy choice. Experts note that Gazpromneft semi-synthetics are no worse than Lukoil’s, and in some respects even win.

It is worth highlighting the following advantages noticed during direct use:

  • practically does not burn;
  • high viscosity-temperature characteristics;
  • removes carbon deposits well;
  • has low cost.

In general, if you have the necessary approval for your car, then it’s definitely worth trying Gazprom Neft oil. Semi-synthetics have positive reviews in 70% of cases. Occasionally there is a well-founded negative, which will also be discussed.

Main disadvantages

As noted above, consumers do not always respond positively to Gazprom Neft 10w 40 oil. Reviews often indicate that, contrary to manufacturers’ claims, the lubricant burns off quite well. But here you also need to take into account the condition of the motor. In some cases, at -30 it was not possible to start the internal combustion engine, which may also indicate low quality viscosity characteristics.

The darkening is noticeable after 1-2 thousand kilometers, while imported oils change color a little later. But this should not be taken as a minus. Rather, this is an advantage that indicates high detergents. But if the darkening is accompanied by deterioration in engine performance, then it’s worth thinking about.

Gazpromneft oil (synthetic) has more positive reviews. It is extremely rare to encounter dissatisfied users. If we take it from the total mass, then this is approximately 20%. But even here you need to understand that approximately half, complaining about motor oil, have serious problems with the engine, hence all the consequences.

Let's sum it up

So we looked at the products of the Gazprom Neft company. Overall this is great choice, especially in times of crisis, when a 5-liter canister of imported motor oil can cost 3-4 thousand rubles, and a domestic product is 2-3 times cheaper. In this case, you can even reduce the replacement interval to 5-6 thousand kilometers so that no problems arise at all.

Of course, if you are not at all sure of the quality, then it is better not to use Gazpromneft 5w40 motor oil. Reviews say quite the opposite. The fact is that some stereotypes have formed about the low quality of domestic products. Of course, they cannot be called unfounded, but in fact, not everything is so bad. The automotive industry in the Russian Federation does not stand still, and the world of motor oils is developing along with it. Perhaps this is why it makes sense to try a cheaper, but no less high-quality alternative to expensive foreign lubricants.
