Spoilers, their varieties and functions

This element (or totality of elements) is designed to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car.

Production and installation of spoilers

The material for the manufacture of spoilers is plastic - all sorts of its varieties. In exceptional cases, they can also be made of light metal - aluminum - or with the use of carbon.

There are both universal models and intended for specific car brands. "Anit-wing", for example, is universal and is intended for installation on the lid of the trunk of a number of vehicle models. However, universal spoilers perform, rather, aesthetic function. In order to significantly improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car, it must be "fitted" specifically for a specific vehicle taking into account its shape and technical qualities.

The spoiler is able to reduce the windshield resistance of the air flow: for this, inclined fairings are used. Elements are installed, as a rule, on motorcycle housings or truck cabins.

They are often used not to improve the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle, but to protect the car from the pollution of the glass, by changing the direction of opposite air flows. For this purpose, neat small spoilers are used, installed on the rear doors of cars with the type of body "Hatchback", "SUV" and "Universal".

Some models are able to simultaneously increase the aerodynamic resistance of the car by creating air cutting under its bottom and stimulate the appearance of the so-called clamping force, due to which the vehicle is able to hold on the highway even at high speeds. Such properties have "skirts", which should be installed directly under the front bumper or in the coupling with it, and "threshold expander", which are put on the bikes of the car body.

Spoilers must look appropriate, stylish and give the car individuality. However, beware of installing models, based only on their aesthetic component: such body elements are not only not able to perform their own direct function - improving the aerodynamic properties of the car, but can and significantly worsen the characteristics of your vehicle by unsystematic and chaotic changes in the direction of air flows.

Install spoilers with special care and in direct participation of qualified specialists. Remember that incorrectly installed and poorly attacked elements are able to harm the health and property of others. During the car movement, the spoilers can break away from the body and damage your and the surrounding vehicles and, moreover, cause pedestrian injuries.

Visiting a car wash, show vigilance: if the spoilers on your car are highly planted or rather fragile, the automatic washing can damage these items. With the manual wash, there should be no bends or layers.

By installing such elements, it should be remembered that if you decide to ever get rid of them, it can entail some troubles. All aerodynamic characteristics that transformed, due to the use of body kit, will return to the previous direction. In addition, the seats of former fastening of spoilers will be visible to the naked eye.

There are so-called removable spoilers, which can be installed and removed again without any damage to the appearance of the car. This process requires certain skills and is quite time consuming. Removable and folding elements include fairing for some trucks and "-yubs", which are placed under the bumper of the car and can be dismantled for the winter season.

FEATURES OF INSURANCE

Under an agreement on liability insurance (OSAGO) in the event of damage to the spoiler, not provided for by a car package, the reimbursement of the vehicle owner cannot be obtained. In the case of property insurance (CASCO), the situation is changing. Keep written evidence of all the costs of supplying costs and, if damaged, the insurance company will rely on this information to calculate the amount of damage compensation. On the other hand, if you acquire a car already equipped with a body kit, it is practically not possible to evaluate it. The owner of the car, knowing the value of the exclusive, made individually for its vehicle, body kit, does not want to insure it at the cost of materials. And for the insurance company, the value that cannot be measured in total expression is not significant.
