What is the Land Cruiser 100 engine. New comment

04.12.2021

Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is rightfully considered one of the most successful representatives of its class. The name "land cruiser" (as the name of the model is translated from English), this modification has fully justified for many years.

The conceptual version of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 was unveiled in October 2007 at the Tokyo International Auto Show and was called the Grand Cruiser.

Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is a full-size SUV, according to the internal classification of the concern, belonging to the Station Wagon category. The body is 5-door, the number of seats varies from 5 to 9. All modifications are equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive system with a reduction gear. As an additional option, a cross-axle differential lock is offered. Body structure - frame. The frame is equipped with built-in shock-absorbing elements. The car has an impressive ground clearance even by the standards of the class - 220 mm.

On the one hand, due to the high quality of the finish and the level of comfort, the car is considered very prestigious and representative, and on the other hand, its high cross-country ability makes it an excellent option for off-roading.

SUV history

The Land Cruiser is the oldest SUV in the Japanese concern's lineup. Its history dates back to 1953 and continues to this day. The "hundredth" modification is the seventh generation of the model.

It was presented to the public in 1997 in Tokyo, and sales began in 1998. The novelty has replaced the ultra-reliable Toyota Land Cruiser 80. Compared to its predecessor, the new Land Cruiser has received a more modern appearance and has become more comfortable (new systems that facilitate driving on uneven surfaces, independent front suspension on double levers, rack and pinion steering).

The Toyota Land Cruiser 105 was also presented on the market. In fact, it was a heavily modernized Land Cruiser 80 in a new "hundredth" body. The car was distinguished by its increased cross-country ability and unpretentious operation. She had two continuous axles, locks of all differentials and a narrower track.

In 2003, the Land Cruiser 100 model underwent a slight restyling, receiving modified head optics, bumpers and new interior trim. The updated Land Cruiser for the American market became known as Amazon.

In 2007, the production of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 was completed and was replaced by the Land Cruiser 200.

Technical features of the Land Cruiser 100

When developing a new generation of Land Cruiser, Toyota specialists paid special attention to engines that had to combine power and reliability. Several new power units were proposed for the car at once. This is a 4.7-liter V8 petrol with 235 hp. and an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 4.2 liters and a capacity of 205 hp. (it is worth noting that the gasoline V8 was focused primarily on the American market). In addition to them, the Land Cruiser 100, like its predecessor, was equipped with a 4.5-liter inline "six". Also in some markets, the diesel engine was offered in a turbocharged version.

At the first stage, the checkpoint list included a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 4-speed "automatic", later the automatic transmission also received five steps.

Two years after the start of production, the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 has slightly changed the list of offered options. In particular, the SUV has received independent climate control for the rear passengers for the first time.

Pros and cons of Land Cruiser 100

The advantages of the model in comparison with classmates have always been considered reliability and high permeability. In particular, to improve the off-road characteristics of the model, the AHC system (hydraulic clearance adjustment) was installed on it, which maintains a constant level of ground clearance, regardless of the load of the car.

The SUV's engines allow it to feel confident in the city, on the highway, and off-road. However, this feeling hits the driver's pocket quite tangibly, since the large Land Cruiser 100 is not economical.

Another advantage of the car is its spacious interior, which has enough space for each seat.

The weak points of all copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 are the steering rack, as well as the front suspension. Both elements have become innovations for "weaving", and both have a very small resource during operation on bad roads.

Interesting facts about the model

By the beginning of 1998, when the Land Cruiser 100 appeared on the market, the Land Cruiser name had already become a household name and was considered synonymous with off-road capability and reliability. That is why the United Nations purchased freshly released copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 for its needs.

In the domestic Japanese market from 1998 to 2007, a modification of the Land Cruiser Cygnus was introduced. It was a more prestigious variety of "weaving" with luxurious interior decoration and many luxury options. Cygnus was equipped exclusively with a 4.7-liter engine in combination with an automatic transmission. This car entered Russia under the name Lexus LX470.

In 2000, Toyota celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Land Cruiser. For this occasion, a special series called 50th Anniversary was released. The car was distinguished by aluminum rims, gold-colored logos, leather and wood on the steering wheel, as well as an anniversary nameplate on the body. 400 copies from this limited edition were sent to the Russian market.

Land Cruiser 100 awards and statistics

Throughout its history, the Toyota Land Cruiser has become the world's best-selling SUV. In 2000, the year of the 50th anniversary of the model's launch on the market, it sold 191,000 copies worldwide. In total, by this time, more than 3.7 million Land Cruisers of all generations were sold.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 100 did not win big victories at car competitions, however, it achieved success and recognition from the public. Until now, these cars are in demand in the secondary market.

However, popularity has a downside: the car often appeared on the lists of the most stolen in Russia.

Appearance:

In appearance, it is not difficult to distinguish between "cheap" Toyota Land Cruiser equipment from more expensive ones. The basic Standard equipment is designated as STD, it is very easy to recognize it by the absence of side moldings and roof rails. The next grade - the GX, already has the above-described elements, but like on the STD, the rear doors of the GX swing open in different directions, but in the more expensive VX, the rear doors open up and down. Note that the GX package is subdivided into the P1 and P2 versions, P2 can be easily distinguished by the installed winch. In comparison with the Land Cruiser 80, the length of one hundred square meters has increased by 90mm, despite the unchanged wheelbase, the interior has become more spacious due to a more thoughtful internal layout. The STD is wearing relatively narrow 235/85 R16 tires, and the tires are clad on stamped steel wheels. The GX is fitted with wider, lower profile 275/70 R16 tires, while the VX has a smaller tire profile of 275/65 R17. Externally, "weaving" differs from the eighties even more voluminous headlights.

Salon and equipment:

The steering wheel of the base Land Cruiser 100 is adjusted manually and only in angle, but the steering wheel of the Land Cruiser VX is adjusted in both directions and with the help of servos. When looking at the equipment, we can conclude that there is a very big difference between STD and VX. So the STD equipment is equipped only with vinyl chairs that are easy to clean, as well as air conditioning. The machine in the GX equipment already has a fabric upholstery and an electric drive of all windows, in addition, in the GX the backrest of the second row is adjustable in tilt angle, the P2 modification is equipped with a hatch. The VX can please with the electric drives of the seats and the already mentioned steering wheel, the leather interior for the VX is a common thing. As an additional equipment for the Land Cruiser 100, a steering control was offered that, depending on the speed of the movement, changes the number of revolutions of the steering wheel from lock to lock. The system was named Variable Gear Ratio Steering. At low speeds, the steering wheel makes 2.5 turns from lock to lock, but on the highway, the steering wheel becomes less precise, from lock to lock 3.5 turns. In 2002, the basic equipment included a CD changer with steering wheel control and separate climate control for all three rows of seats. It is worth emphasizing that the STD and GX saloon is more spacious, since there is not an ordinary sofa in the trunk, but two benches along the sides, thanks to which the capacity of these modifications is 10 people. When buying a Land Cruiser from a seller, you can hear a boast that his car is equipped with two air conditioners. It is better to refuse such a car, because two air conditioners were installed on Arab modifications. The point is not only that one air conditioner is more than enough for our conditions, but that the pipes extended to the second air conditioner are laid under the bottom, and they themselves are made of aluminum - this leads to the fact that after several "salty" winters, the pipes lose their tightness. The interior of the Land Cruiser 100 is 70mm wider than its predecessor. The same 70mm has become more spacious for the legs of the rear passengers. After the modernization of 2002, the car received a new dashboard with illumination, which can be changed depending on the degree of ambient lighting. The luggage compartment with the third row folded down holds 830 liters, there is the possibility of increasing the luggage compartment by folding the second row.

Technical part and characteristics of Land Cruiser 100

The aforementioned STD, GX and VX modifications have significant differences in technical equipment. The first two modifications have a more durable fully dependent suspension, as in the "eighty", but in STD only the rear center differential is locked, and in the GX all three locks, including the front differential lock, are not uncommon. The VX features independent front suspension for improved handling and a smoother ride on tarmac.

The most prestigious engine offered for the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is a 4.7-liter V8 petrol with 235 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque. This motor can only be docked with an automatic machine. Note that initially a four-speed automatic transmission was offered for the "hundred", but in 2002 it was replaced by a new five-speed automatic transmission. The V8 4.7 engine was designated 2UZFE and is known for being the first V8 installed in a Toyota SUV. Fuel consumption of 2UZFE in urban areas is 20-25 liters. In addition to the gasoline V8, a turbo diesel can also be installed on the Land Cruiser VX. The inline six-cylinder turbo diesel with a volume of 4.2 liters is equipped with a cylinder head with four valves per cylinder. The designation of this turbodiesel is 1HDFTE. The power of 1HDFTE is 204 horsepower and the maximum torque is 430N.m. A car with a turbodiesel can be equipped with both an automatic and a manual transmission. Toyota SUV with a turbodiesel under the hood is not significantly inferior to the gasoline version in dynamics, but fuel consumption in the urban cycle in the region of 14-17 liters is quite acceptable. The simplest atmospheric diesel 1HZ "weaving" inherited without changes from the eighties. Diesel with a volume of 4.2 liters with two valves per cylinder develops 130 horsepower - this is an excellent option for residents of the outback, where there is no high-quality diesel fuel. An atmospheric diesel engine was installed on the Land Krzer STD and GX. There are also 4.5-liter gasoline six-cylinder in-line engines. These units were installed on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 intended for the Arab countries. Gasoline power 4.5 - 224hp, engine index - 1FZFE.

Unlike the "eighties", in which the gasoline engines had a timing chain drive, on all motors of the "hundred" the timing mechanism is driven by a belt. Maintenance of the Land Cruiser in order to replace the timing belt should be carried out no later than once every 100,000. The oil in the engine is changed every 10,000 km. Works on cleaning Land Cruiser injectors are carried out every 100,000 - 120,000. The manufacturer himself stated the service life of the candles at 100,000 km, but in practice, in our conditions, they do not always live even 30,000. There are no hydraulic compensators on the engines. According to reviews and the words of experts, work on adjusting thermal gaps should be carried out every couple of hundred kilometers, which exceeds the service life of hydraulic compensators.

Installers of audio systems and other specialists notice that the thickness of the metal of the Land Cruiser 100 is 0.6 - 0.7 mm, which is not so much, so additional work has to be done for the high-quality sound of music, which entails a rise in price. Not so frequent, but still a problem that the owner of this all-terrain vehicle may encounter is a burst exhaust manifold. The fact is that the Cruiser exhaust manifolds are made of steel, not cast iron, and if there are not so many problems with replacing the right manifold, then the steering shaft must be removed to replace the left one. The price of each collector is around $ 500. The cooling system pump usually runs more than 200,000 km, its price is $ 200 - $ 250. A starter can live 150,000, the price of a spare part is $ 500 - $ 600.

The oil in the gearbox is changed after 40,000 km, at the same mileage, the oil in the gearboxes and the transfer case should be changed. Even Dextron 2 can be poured into the machine itself, but GL5 oil with a viscosity of 75 W90 should be poured into the mechanics, gearbox and distributor.

On the Land Cruiser VX, the lower front suspension arms should be changed with a mileage of 70 thousand. Note that there are also modifications with adaptive suspension. The adjustable suspension has three height positions: 170mm for highway, 220mm for normal ground clearance, 270mm for height. As practice has shown, in our conditions this system is not very reliable and it is better to refuse such machines. With a mileage of 100,000 km, repairs will be required - replacing the lower bushings of the front shock absorbers, it is better to immediately change the shock absorbers. There are cases when, as a result of off-road driving, the breather of the rear axle was clogged, which led to increased pressure in the unit and leaks from under the front or rear oil seal. As a rule, servicemen clean the breather every 100,000, so as not to get for repairs, do not forget about it. Once every 100,000, it is worth injecting the crosspieces of the propeller shafts. The Land Cruiser clutch usually takes care of 200,000 km without any problems. Sometimes the owners are perplexed after the servicemen offer them to change the brake discs. The fact is that the initial thickness of the Land Cruiser 100 brake disc is 32mm, and the minimum allowable thickness is 30mm, sometimes the discs under a heavy machine wear out even for 30,000 - 50,000.

Let's pay attention to the technical characteristics of the Toyota Land Cruiser VX with a V8 4.7 engine and a 5th automatic transmission.

Price

The price of a well-maintained Toyota Land Cruiser is $ 100, 25,000 - $ 30,000. The price of a well-groomed car of the last years of production can approach $ 40,000.

Like many other models of the Land Cruiser 100 - the price of which obliges you to constantly monitor the opinion of consumers, it has constantly undergone some changes. Toyota representatives tried to take into account the preferences of people who already had experience driving this car and could, from a practical point of view, evaluate the convenience, technical characteristics and other indicators.

So, over time, the radiator grill changed - it became larger. The taillights changed the color of the turn signals a little, since the company decided to use LEDs as a light emitter. The front panel has become softer over time and somewhat more attractive. Rear passengers were able to control the radio, and there was also airflow to the rear seats from the ceiling.

Since 2006, the manufacturer has changed both the front and rear optics. The taillights are all LED. Since 2002, cars of this model have been equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The car has become more comfortable. For people who are willing to sacrifice dynamics for this, the updated Toyota Land Cruiser 100 has become more attractive.

Also, Toyota specialists have developed and implemented steering with a variable gear ratio on the 100th model. Thanks to this innovation, the large car became more manageable.

All these innovations, in principle, had a positive effect on the feedback from the owners. Among the advantages that are noted by the majority who bought the hundredth model:

  • good cross-country ability;
  • stability on the road even at high speeds;
  • large power reserve.

This is not surprising, because the car is designed just for off-road conditions, and it behaves more than confidently around the city. However, in addition to those owners of the Cruiser 100 who have been operating the car for 10 years and write only in enthusiastic tones about their steel horse, there are also those who frankly say that they sold the “maize” due to a large number of problems with various components, to which I am glad.

Next, we will consider what are the disadvantages and advantages revealed by the owners during the operation of this car.

Amenities and disadvantages inside

What every driver first of all pays attention to is the comfort of the car's interior, namely, how comfortable it will be for him to drive. If you look at the Land Cruiser 100 owner reviews regarding the location of the controls in the cabin, then you can clearly see the presence of some inconveniences.

The owners note the poorly thought-out arrangement of the headlight washer buttons, heated steering wheel and seats. In order to be able to make the appropriate adjustments, it is necessary to stretch sideways and down, with this position of the body, the visibility of the road is significantly reduced. In addition, the "electric suction" button is located so that it does not fall on the eye at all, and there is no duplicate indicator on the dashboard. Therefore, it is often forgotten, and the suction works when it is no longer needed.

One of the disadvantages of aesthetics and comfort in the cabin, recognized by Toyota, is that when the USB is connected, the cigarette lighter socket is blocked. This is important in view of the availability of a sufficient number of devices (FM receivers, boilers, chargers for mobile phones) that are connected to this socket. For such a respectable, eminent manufacturer, the situation is rather incomprehensible.

Among the advantages of the interior, most car owners note the comfort of the seats and a huge amount of legroom. Also, the seats are particularly practical, they are quite difficult to get dirty and they can safely and comfortably accommodate as many as five adult passengers, in addition, there will still be room for small luggage.

As for the interior of the cabin, in the opinion of many, it still leaves much to be desired. There are extraneous creaks emanating from the seats, the plastic of the front panel also does not look good for your money (the car is not cheap). Although this is a matter of taste, for half of the drivers, good technical characteristics are much more important, which the Land Cruiser 100 has to be said to be quite impressive.

Fuel consumption

The most important question that worries every car owner when operating a car is probably fuel consumption. To begin with, we note that for the Toyota Land Cruiser 100, two engine options are offered: gasoline and diesel.

According to the manufacturer, the 4.7 liter gasoline unit is distinguished by its high technical characteristics and dynamism. The second diesel engine with a volume of 4, 2 liters, in their opinion, is still considered more reliable and economical.

As you know, the issue of consumption must be approached based on the volume of the engine, the fuel on which the car drives (diesel fuel or gasoline), as well as the operating conditions. So many drivers who have a gasoline engine on the Land Cruiser 100 mark consumption in the region of 17 liters on the highway at a speed of 150 km / h. And the owners of a diesel engine at a speed of 100-110 km / h note a consumption of 9-10 liters per hundred.

As you can see, real data on fuel consumption do not differ much from those declared by the manufacturer. For the first case, Toyota regulates 16.3 liters per hundred, and in the second 11.1 liters in the combined cycle. Of course, all calculations are performed at a vehicle speed of around 100 km / h. Therefore, the petrol 4.7 at 150 km / h slightly goes over fuel, but goes quickly.

That is, in principle, we can say that such an expense is quite acceptable for an SUV. However, residents of the north still have to spend more on fuel, since consumption increases in the cold. In winter, with an average temperature of 25-35 degrees below zero, according to the owners, fuel consumption increases up to 22 liters.

What else do the owners note

Only during the operation of the car can all its advantages and disadvantages be revealed, so it would be useful to find out a few more nuances that the owners talk about.

Often, reviews of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 speak of insufficient anti-corrosion treatment in places that are hidden from everyday inspection, for example, under the lanterns, on the inner surfaces of the doors. After a while, traces of rust appear there. To avoid this, you have to spend additional funds on a good anti-corrosion agent.

The problem of high-quality fuel is equally acute for both diesel engines and gasoline units. On diesel engines, first of all, injectors and filters are clogged. It is almost impossible to repair it yourself due to the complexity of the fuel system, you need to take it to the service. The cost of replacing injectors can be 60 thousand rubles. In addition, a high sulfur content has a negative effect on engine oil, as a result of which it loses its detergent properties. Gasoline units become less responsive, and consumption increases.

With great differences in opinion about the reliability of a particular unit, everyone notices that the weak point of the car, especially in the conditions of bad Russian roads, is the lower arm of the front suspension. It would not hurt the manufacturer to increase the resource of this node. In addition, the steering rack can be called a problem area.

We are pleased with the prices for spare parts. Compared to other cars of this class, the "hundred" is somewhat more affordable. So, for the 2006 model, the cost of the original wing is, according to average estimates, about 12 thousand rubles, the cost of the bumper is 5 thousand. Naturally, for some sedan, such a price category would be an overwhelming burden, but its capabilities are completely different.

We will help our readers with advice on choosing a Toyota Land Cruiser 100.

For Russian motorists, the SUV 100 is the benchmark among off-road vehicles. It can provide both high cross-country ability on various types of road and off-road, and provide high comfort to its passenger. There is a constant demand for used copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV in the Russian secondary market. In this article, we'll show you how to choose the right used Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV.

History and design of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The history of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV dates back to 1998, when it was presented at the international motor show. It became the successor to the already proven Toyota Land Cruiser 80 SUV. The 100th generation of the SUV received an independent front suspension with a frame structure. The rear axle remained continuous. The Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV model is considered one of the most reliable models of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota.

Russian motorists usually choose used copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV version for themselves. However, there is also a Toyota Land Cruiser 105 version, which demonstrates even more off-road capabilities. The main difference between the 105th series is the swinging pair of tailgate doors. However, the main changes are not visible from the outside and are hidden in the structure itself. Toyota Land Cruiser 100 and Toyota Land Cruiser 105 have different frames and non-interchangeable bodies. The Land Cruiser 105 also has a continuous axle at the front as well as at the rear. Also, in the version of Toyota Land Cruiser 105, the front axle is connected rigidly.

If you want a reliable SUV with high traffic and a high-quality comfortable interior, then you should choose the luxury version of the VX. Usually this version with a top engine and TEMS electric adjustable suspension with body level adjustment.

Copies of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 from the United Arab Emirates

Avoid Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100.

In the domestic automotive market, a stereotype has developed that the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV from the United Arab Emirates will not be reliable in Russian conditions. This stereotype is not unfounded. We really do not recommend purchasing Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV. The thing is that most of these examples are not equipped with a cabin heater and have a tiny radiator for the engine cooling system. What they are really good at is the two air conditioners that have increased power. The second disadvantage of the Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is the almost complete absence of anti-corrosion treatment for the body and the engine exhaust system. I buy such a copy, the new owner will need to immediately process the entire car, which will be hampered by its second-hand condition and the inability to unwind the already soured mountings.

Problems with the body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV is almost completely unloaded. It is screwed to the frame with 12 bolts. The frame itself is an unreliable structural element of the vehicle. The fact is that the frame is hermetically unprotected from moisture. Dirt and moisture seeps into the profile rather quickly. Accumulating there, they begin to corrode the metal from the inside. The way out of this is to regularly fill the frame with an anti-corrosion compound. If the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 was operated in Moscow or St. Petersburg, then it clearly requires a solid frame repair. Typically, the most rusty area is the rear of the frame where the spring cushions are attached. When inspecting a Toyota Land Cruiser 100, we recommend tapping on all frame welds. This will help you understand which ones are rusted.

On the body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100, rust first of all appears on the bumper, front fenders, in the windshield frame, on the rear door and in the sandblasting area. Old copies of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 will have peeling chrome moldings for a long time.

Problems with the interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The interior equipment of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV is pretty sturdy. Various levers and control buttons are very durable, indestructible. Anything can be denied from the control buttons only on pre-styling samples released before 2002. In some instances, the backlash of the steering column may be fixed. This is due to the fact that the owners climb into the cabin, not holding on to the special handle on the A-pillar, but on the steering wheel.

The interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is very high quality and durable.

All in all, choosing a 100 SUV is not too difficult. The main thing is to bypass the stolen copies. If you take good care of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV, it will serve its owner for many years to come.

Part two.

Complete set.

The same 100 series body can hide three different vehicles. Simple and utilitarian pavement Land Cruiser 105. The 105 series were produced as well as the 100 series until the end of 2007. The main difference from the 100 was that the 105 series had a split front bridge. In fact, the entire structure and units were carried over from the 80th series, and these are axles, engine and frame. The rear doors were mostly hinged; folding doors were less common. The 100 series was considered a step above 105 in terms of equipment, and therefore it was considered the more luxurious version. The top-end configuration included leather upholstery, wood trim and hydro-suspension. It was equipped with a powerful 4.7 liter gasoline engine or a 4.2 liter turbodiesel engine or a 4.5 liter 1FZ-FE petrol engine borrowed from the 80th series. And the third car is the more luxurious sibling of the 100 series Lexus LX 470 / Land Cruiser Cygnus. It was equipped only with a powerful 4.7-liter gasoline engine, leather interior, natural wood trim, hydro-suspension and many other options. Outside, it differed from the Land Cruiser 100 in a slightly different design of the front end in the form of four-lens optics and another more refined radiator grille.

A total of 14 complete sets can be distinguished, not counting the limited and special versions.

  1. STD / Standart (complete set for foreign markets, excluding North America, Europe and Japan)
  2. GX (R1, R2) (overseas market equipment, excluding North America, Europe and Japan)
  3. VX (overseas equipment, excluding North America)
  4. VX-E (European version)
  5. RV (Australia grade (up to 2002))
  6. G (equipment for Middle East markets)
  7. GX-R (K1, K2) (equipment for the Middle East and Asian markets)
  8. VX-R (equipment for the Middle East and Asian markets)
  9. GXV (Australia grade (up to 2002))
  10. GXL (Australia grade)
  11. Sahara (Australia grade (since 2002))
  12. VX-Limited (Japan grade)
  13. VX-Limited G-Selection (Japan equipment since 2005)
  14. VX-Limited Active Vacation (Japan Package)

As well as the 80-series, formally all configurations can be divided into three versions.

On the picture Russian version of STD. Essentially indistinguishable from the UN or the Arab version.

Toyota Land Cruiser 105 (STD, G and GX) has been selected by the UN. They are used to this day, for rescue operations, patrol services, as well as for the transportation of repeater equipment and satellite communication systems.

A vehicle for transporting repeater equipment and satellite communication systems.

The STD version did not have power accessories, ABS, and airbags and climate control, for its place there was an air conditioner. The interior has been trimmed with vinyl. The floor was also finished with vinyl (for Russian versions and versions for the UN), which was not afraid of water and dirt, which later was easy enough to clean. The STD trim consisted of a four-spoke steering wheel (with an airbag), a three-spoke urethane steering wheel (without an airbag). It did not have an additional heater of increased efficiency for the front and rear of the cabin, it also did not have a leather trim for the gearbox handle, only top versions were trimmed with leather. There were no fog lights, cruise control, and the dashboard was the same on the pre-styling versions as the VX, STD and GX. After the restyling, the "Optitron" dashboard appeared on the VX, and the usual instrument lighting was used on the STD and GX. The windshield was without darkening at the top, there was no green tint, a sunroof, roof rails, side moldings, and heated mirrors. The side mirrors and bumpers were not painted in body color. All STD versions, regardless of market, had chrome door handles. On the STD and GX versions, the lower part of the torpedo did not have a plastic console like the VX. The STD did not have an anti-theft system, immobilizer, and remote control central locking.

All STDs had only hinged rear doors, some versions did not have rear foglights.

There were aluminum footrests. Cassette radio only with tuner, 2 dinovy. There were 10 seats in the cabin, on the first row for one passenger seat there was a one and a half bench, and the sofa of the second row was solid, in the luggage compartment there were two more benches that stood along the sides, 4 people could be accommodated there with less comfort. The engine was installed only with 1HZ atmospheric diesel. The rear brakes were drum brakes. The steering was with a screw-nut drive. Was shod in narrow tires with steel rims 235/85 R16.

The STD trim featured a three-spoke urethane steering wheel without an airbag. The rear benches folded when they were not needed.

Arabic version G.

Essentially the same STD difference is in the little things.

Arabic G was almost identical to STD, the only difference was in the little things. For example, the interior was fabric and not vinyl as on STD. There was also a narrow, toothed off-road rubber on steel rims. On the Russian versions, the tires were road tires, and the rims were with a shoulder.

Arab Gs, as well as Russian STDs and GXs, were without airbags.

R2, in addition to locking the rear and center differential, also had a front differential lock. She also had chrome trim on the lower edge of the doors and glass. The engines were only less powerful, this is an atmospheric 1HZ diesel engine, for the Arab and other markets also 1FZ-FE. All GX for Russian versions had rims of size 275/85 R16. The steering was with a screw-nut drive. The package included the R1.

Salon of the pre-styling version of the GX (1998-2002).

GX version for Middle East and Asian markets.

The Arabic versions of the GX were much richer than the Russian ones. They had 2 fuel tanks with a total volume of 141 liters. Two air conditioners. Airbags, alloy wheels. The side stickers were 4500, which meant it was a petrol version. It was possible to order an additional spare wheel on the door + and a spare tire cover. The engines were petrol 1FZ-FE 4.5 liters, and the atmospheric diesel 1HZ was rarely encountered. Had 7 seats. The gearboxes were both modernized mechanical 5-speed and automatic 4-speed. The interior color was both gray and light.

Version without a second spare wheel, on standard narrow tires.

There were also Kazakh versions, just like the Arab ones, they were divided into two configurations K1 and K2.

The photo shows two complete sets of GX and GX-R for the Arab market.

In addition, it had a 4-speed automatic transmission, or an upgraded manual gearbox. body-colored mirrors and door handles. Airbags, and narrow protective molding on the sides.

Version without a second spare wheel, on standard wide tires.

4500 GXL has ABS, front airbags SRS , Only a 4.5 petrol engine was installed liter 1FZ-FE.

The gasoline version of the GXL was distinguished by other stamped rims.

GXL Turbodiesel.

All GXLs were richer than the GX. The salon of the GXL is the same as that of the Japanese VX.

Europe and Russia.

It is considered the richest complete set in some markets. Has a full power accessories for glasses, mirrors, etc. It was equipped with a leather interior, and until 2002 on turbodiesel versions it was offered with a velor interior, or with a velor interior from the 105th version, paired only with a manual gearbox. In the markets of Japan and other countries, it is also offered with a velor interior. Leather and velor were of two types, gray and light. The VX only had hinged rear doors. The engines were only the most powerful, a 4.7 liter 2UZ-FE gasoline engine, and a 4.2 liter 1HD-FTE turbodiesel. For Europe, it was completed with standard stamped disks (if desired, it was possible to install alloy wheels). Heated front seats and leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearbox handles and hand-outs. The gasoline versions had a refrigerator. For turbodiesels, a refrigerator was not provided, in its place there was a box for small things, as an option, a CD changer for 6 discs was offered in this box. For Europe, the 100 series was in a 5-seater version. A third row of seats was offered as an option. The blocking was for the petrol version of the center differential only, and for the turbo diesel version there was also a rear differential. For Russian versions it was offered with alloy wheels, 275/65 R17.

The package included for Russian and European versions

  3. Climate control
  4. Roof rails

Australia.

The Australian VX lacked fog lights and roof rails. But the database already had a chrome package.

Intermediate equipment between GXL and Sahara. Unlike the GXL, it included all kinds of security systems Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and (TRC) ... Also had a leather interior, sunroof, side moldings. It had two fuel tanks, 141-liter (96-liter main, and 45-liter spare tank), this is very important in the African deserts, where there are no gas stations for hundreds of kilometers.

Prices started at 4.7-liter gasoline car 68000Australian $ , and the price for a 4.2-liter turbo diesel my car was AU $ 81,000.

The cabin had wood trim, climate control, a stereo system with a display, but there was no multifunction steering wheel, a multifunction steering wheel, there was only a top-end stereo system. The dashboard was ordinary, not Optitron. There was no heated front seats.

Configurations for the Gulf Countries and China.

VX-R for Arab countries and China, the main difference is that on the Arab and Chinese versions there were stickers on the sides, there were 2 standard air conditioners in the front and rear of the cabin, and two regular fuel tanks with a total of 150 liters. They also had another starter (starter power was 1.4 kW instead of European 2 kW.), A radiator, an electronic injection control unit, water pump, etc.

Middle Eastern versions are not very suitable for use in winter conditions. Since their injection system simply does not support a cold start, and the tropical radiator does not allow the engine to warm up normally, which leads to jerking when driving with an unheated engine. For example, the second circuit of the air conditioner for the rear of the passenger compartment (its duralumin pipes rot under the body after a few winters). The Arabs have a rather weak paintwork and no anti-corrosion protection, the oil seals are not designed for cold weather, the starter and battery are weaker, and many engine parts and cooling systems differ from European ones. Just like n The numbers of many parts in the Middle East Specification did not coincide with the indices of similar spare parts for I have European versions.

Restyled version for China with a standard winch.

GXV.

The configuration was only until 2002, until 2000 it was offered only with a gasoline engine, after that with a turbodiesel engine, paired with these engines there was a 4-speed automatic transmission, there were no versions with mechanics. It was the most complete package for the Australian Land Cruiser 100. After 2002, the GXV package was replaced by the VX. It was7-seater version. The package included an audio system with 6-CD, refrigerator, sunroof, blocking of the central and rear differential, ABS, climate control, power accessories (mirror seats, etc.), two airbags,16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights. The fuel tank was on141 liter (96 liter main tank and 45 liter spare tank). The interior was made of fabric, no leather, only leather gear knob and steering wheel. Prices started at AU $ 47,460 for the petrol version, and $ 49,690 for the turbo diesel version.

Top Australian version version. In fact, it is comparable to the VX trim level, it has the same options, the only exceptions are trifles, such as the absence of a multi-steering wheel. The price wasAU $ 112,015.

In Australia, for the first two years, the 100 series was offered only with a V8 engine, only for GXV trim levels, and for the 105 model, a less powerful gasoline 1FZ-FE was installed. The new 1HD-FTE turbodiesel was introduced to the Australian market in October 2000, after being available in Europe and the UK since its launch in 1998.Automotive edition"4WD Monthly magazine " in Australia, criticized Toyota's decision to offer the 1HD-FTE diesel engine only in conjunction with the IFS.Australian monthly magazine"4WD Monthly magazine " said, "We will never forgive Toyote for going to sell a 4.2 liter turbodiesel with us."

The Japanese petrol version of the VX can be identified by narrow moldings and stamped rims, as well as the absence of a spare wheel on the trunk, it was located under the bottom. It is comparable to the GXL, GX, and VX-comfort trim levels for Russia in 2007.

Had only a fabric interior, without power adjustment of the front seats. The gasoline versions did not have a spare wheel on the tailgate. There were stamped discs, narrow moldings, there were no roof rails, a sunroof, there was an ordinary dashboard without Optitron illumination, a simple radio tape recorder, steering wheel and gearbox knob and hand-outs did not get off with leather, the interior did not get off with wood.

Turbo diesel version "Van VX" spare wheel with a lock, located on the tailgate.

It was a little richer, had a leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear knobs and hand-outs, wood-like interior trim, and an "Optitron" illuminated dashboard. Outside, it already had wide moldings, alloy wheels, roof rails.

VX-Limited G-Selection.

Richest version , had TV, "TOUH SCREEN" monitor, leather interior, dashboard "Optitron" after 2001, the interior was trimmed with wood (walnut root).

The salon got off only with leather, after 2001 also with wood.

In the photo there is a restyled version of the salon.

US and Canada versions.

The photo shows a pre-styling version for the USA.

North American versions were sold only as Land Cruiser 100 in one single top-end configuration and were equipped with only the most powerful 4.7 liter gasoline engine. There were no turn signals on the fenders, they were integrated into the headlights. All kinds of deflectors, sunroof, windows, tailgate were also offered as an option. The interior was offered only in leather, ivory or gray leather.

Salon North American version intended for the United States. Speedometer digitized in miles.

Modifications and options.

Land Cruiser 500.

Almost all Land Cruiser 500s had a 500 nameplate on the tailgate (photo above), but some versions did not have it (photo below). The TDI or V8 nameplate means that it is turbo diesel or gasoline, respectively.

Land Cruiser Amazon.

For England and Ireland, the 100th series was sold until 2007 under the name Land Cruiser Amazon.

Until 2001, Amazon had a VX / GX nameplate on the front doors, after restyling it disappeared (top right photo). In the cabinthe differences were only in the digitization of the speedometer in miles. The pre-styled models, like all European versions, were equipped with a simple radio tape recorder, and the restyled ones were already with navigation (bottom photos). Pay attention to the bottom left photo, the 4-speed gearbox indicates that in the photo there is a turbodiesel car of 2002-2003.

Until 2002, there was an Amazon nameplate on the tailgate (or rather the left photo). After 2001, made one plastic strip with the inscription Land Cruiser Amazon(or rather the right photo)... On some machines, for some reason, it was not at all. After restyling in 2002, the Amazon nameplate moved to the bottom of the fifth door (bottom right photo).
