What engine is on the hover n5. Great Wall Hover H5 - an alternative version of the UAZ Patriot

24.12.2021

1. General information on the engine

The Hover car is equipped with a MITSUBISHI 4G64S4 engine with a volume of 2.351 liters. The engine is gasoline, four-stroke, four-cylinder, in-line with a fuel injection system. The cylinder block is cast from special high-strength cast iron, which gives the engine structure rigidity and strength. Coolant ducts forming a cooling jacket are made along the entire height of the block, this improves the cooling of the pistons and reduces block deformation from uneven overheating. The cooling jacket is open at the top towards the block head. In the lower part of the cylinder block there are five crankshaft main bearing supports, the covers of which are bolted. The supports are equipped with thin-walled steel-aluminum liners that act as crankshaft bearings. The crankshaft is cast from special ductile iron. The main and connecting rod journals of the shaft are ground. To lubricate the connecting rod bearings, oil valves closed with plugs are drilled into the crankshaft. To reduce vibrations, eight counterweights are located on the crankshaft. At the front end of the crankshaft there is a toothed pulley for the camshaft drive belt, balancing shafts and oil pump, and a pulley for driving the generator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and water pump fluid coupling. A cast iron flywheel is mounted on the rear end of the crankshaft. A steel toothed rim is pressed onto the flywheel. Forged steel connecting rods with covers on the lower heads. Thin-walled liners are installed in the lower head of the connecting rod, and a steel-bronze bushing is pressed into the upper head. Pistons are cast from aluminum alloy. Three rings are installed on each of them: the top two are compression rings and the bottom one is oil scraper. On the engine, the pistons are cooled by oil; for this, special nozzles are installed in the main bearing supports. Nozzles are tubes containing spring-loaded balls. During engine operation, the balls open holes in the tubes and a jet of oil hits the piston from below. The oil sump is steel, stamped, bolted to the cylinder block from below. On top of the cylinder block is a block head cast from an aluminum alloy. Channels are cast in the lower part of the head, through which the liquid circulates, which cools the combustion chambers. A camshaft is installed at the top of the head. The camshaft rotates in bearings at the top of the block head. The camshafts are cast iron. To reduce wear, the working surfaces of the cams and the surfaces under the stuffing box are heat treated - bleached. The camshafts actuate the valves through the rocker arms. The engine has hydraulic valve lifters that automatically compensate for valve clearances. Therefore, these engines do not need to adjust the clearances during operation. The engine has four valves per cylinder: two intake and two exhaust.

Engine number location

Guide bushings and valve seats are pressed into the block head. Oil scraper caps are installed on the guide bushings, which reduce the ingress of oil into the cylinders. The engine has one spring on each valve. The camshaft is driven by a rubber toothed belt from the crankshaft. Combined lubrication system: spray and pressure. Under pressure, the main and connecting rod bearings and camshaft bearings are lubricated.

The system consists of an oil sump, a gear oil pump with an oil receiver, a full flow oil filter, an oil pressure switch and oil valves. The engine cooling system consists of a cooling jacket, a radiator, a centrifugal water pump with a fan fluid coupling, a thermostat and hoses. The power supply system consists of an air filter, a fuel tank, a fuel pump, fuel lines and a fuel rail with injectors and a fuel pressure regulator. In addition, the power system includes sensors, a fuel filter and a throttle pipe. The fuel pump is electric, submersible type, installed in the fuel tank and combined with a fuel gauge sensor. The ignition system is microprocessor controlled by a controller (control unit). The controller also controls the fuel injection system.

Each car has its own technical characteristics, which include fuel costs over a certain distance. In this case, we will consider the fuel consumption of a Hover per 100 km.

A bit from the history of creation

At present, it is difficult to even imagine that once people did without cars. Now their choice is huge, for every taste. They have different reviews. It's hard not to get lost in the choice. But, before you buy an “iron horse”, you should always not only pay attention to its appearance, but also carefully study the technical characteristics, in particular, find out what fuel consumption the car has, how long it takes to accelerate.

Europe, America, Asia - where only modern cars are not produced. But, now I want to pay attention to the Hover Great Wall - a crossover of Chinese origin, five-seat, but compact, with 5 doors. The car was presented to the court of motorists in 2005 and has since gone through two restylings. In 2010 and 2014, the Hover Great Wall changed its technical equipment and exterior.

Hover frame design. It can be equipped with either a 2 or 2.4 liter petrol engine or a 2.8 liter diesel. Gearbox - mechanical. Each of the engines complies with Euro 4 standards. The Hover fuel tank has a capacity of 74 liters.

Machine brand designations

The SUV is manufactured by Great Wall Motors, and its assembly takes place both in China itself and in Russia. You can find the following vehicle designations:

  • Great Wall Haval H3
  • Great Wall Hover CUV
  • Great Wall H3
  • Great Wall Hafu
  • Great Wall X240

Complete set with engines

Cars can be equipped with engines:

  • 2.4 L 4G64 l4
  • 2.0 L l4
  • 2.8L GW2.8TC l4

How much fuel does the car consume

It is difficult to answer this question unambiguously and immediately. There are norms indicated in the technical passport for the car, and there are certain motorists themselves. This concept is relative and even the same car model can show different data. If the difference is small, no problem. This may depend on the driver's driving style, on traffic congestion, on whether the car travels around the city or on the highway, is in traffic jams, or stops only when the color of the traffic light changes.

Having a multi-point injection, the Hover engine provides good speed performance (170 km / h) and at the same time its fuel consumption is only 8.9 liters per 100 km. At this speed, the car can accelerate in just 11 seconds. For fans of a car with a diesel engine, there is a turbodiesel version of the Hover SUV.

Depending on the car model and brand of fuel, according to the actual data of SUV owners, gasoline consumption for a Hover in the city can range from 8.1 to 14 liters. Fuel consumption at the Hover on the highway is from 7.2 liters to 10.2. With a mixed cycle - 7.8 - 11.8 liters. That is, it will be the real fuel consumption of the Great Wall Hover.

Hover 2011 onwards

The 2011 Great Wall Hover's gas mileage is:

in the city - 13 l / 100 km;

on the highway - 7.5 l / 100 km;

mixed type of driving - 10 l / 100 km.

Hover 2008

Average fuel consumption of the 2008 Great Wall Hover may vary due to operating conditions. So, in winter, it can be 11 liters per 100 km. In densely populated areas - 11.5 - 12 liters. For Hover cars with high mileage - 11 liters. If the car is with a trailer, then 2 liters should be added to the gasoline engine for every 100 km of run, to the diesel engine - 1.3 liters.

Things are much worse if the fuel consumption differs significantly from that specified in the technical specifications. In this case, it is better to drive the iron horse to the service station to check and troubleshoot the Hover.

What should be done to reduce fuel consumption

If the fuel consumption of the Great Wall Hover has increased significantly, you should:

  • to clean the catalyst;
  • inspect the SUV for wheel torsion;
  • replace spark plugs.

If no malfunctions have been identified, it may be a matter of the track or driving technique. You can also analyze them. Although, in part, both the power of the Hover engine and the severity of the car itself play a role here.

Why does fuel consumption increase?

Experts have noticed that fuel consumption on Wall Hover can increase for a number of reasons, including:

  • Late ignition. This point is worth watching closely.
  • Incorrectly set spark plug gaps in new cars and shortening of old ones also affect the amount of fuel purchased, which can increase up to 10%.
  • The temperature of the antifreeze is not correct. In fact, few people know about this, but professionals take into account such a moment.
  • As it turns out, a cold engine consumes about 20% more fuel than when it is ready for work.
  • The worn crank mechanism of the Hover is again + 10% to the consumption. The same applies to the clutch.

What else can be done to fix the fuel problem

To reduce costs a little, do the following::

  • If you have recently been to a service station, inspect the wheel hubs, perhaps the bearings were overtightened there. And this is an additional 15%.
  • Wheel alignment depends on the length of the trip. Too large distances negatively affect it, therefore, adjust this parameter and do not forget to repeat this periodically.
  • Check tires. It may seem a little ridiculous, but low tire pressure is also one of the reasons.
  • On long trips, take only what you need. After all, for every additional 100 kg of cargo, you need to add an extra 10% of fuel.
  • Pay attention to the nature of the ride, which includes sudden braking, slipping.
  • Well, if the fuel pump or carburetor is faulty, the cost of gasoline at the Great Wall Hover for 100 km can immediately increase up to 50%.
  • The quality of gasoline, as well as its brand, also play a role. As well as bad weather and a track with a small coefficient of adhesion.
  • If you put all the problems together, it turns out that the engine of an SUV for 100 km can burn up to 20 liters.

TWINS

The Chinese have mastered the technology of cloning well, and in the case of Hover, no gene mutations occurred. The twin of the Japanese "Isuzu-Axiom" turned out to be quite nice and solid. Initially, the car was made only in China, but already in April 2010, assembly was launched in Gzhel, near Moscow. The Russian VIN is located under the hood, on the engine shield on the left, the Chinese one is stamped on the frame, behind the rear right wheel, when registering it is entered simply as the frame number. Our assembly, unfortunately, differs not for the better. Body parts are poorly fitted, and already in the service you have to finish the car, eliminating unacceptably large gaps. There were cases when, due to a hacky assembly, leaks appeared in the cabin through the openings of the rear doors and the trunk lid.

The body color of the Hover is not famous for its high quality, but it also does not have serious flaws. The biggest problem was the appearance of rust under the lining of the fifth door due to the unsuccessful design of the latter. But it was already changed during the first restyling. The metal of the body is not galvanized, but with proper care somehow keeps.

THE QUIETER YOU GO, THE FURTHER YOU'LL GET

Gasoline engines are borrowed from Mitsubishi, they can be found on Pajero and Outlander. On the first "Hovers H2" under the hood, even the symbols of the Japanese manufacturer were preserved. All motors are reliable and maintainable. However, when adjusted to modern toxicity standards, they lost in dynamics. Although the Japanese, under the same restrictions, take much more off their engines.

Strange thing, during the first modernization (“Hover H3”), the 2.4 liter engine (4G64 with a capacity of 130 hp), which frankly did not pull, was replaced by an even less powerful 2-liter (4G63, 122 hp). During the second work on the bugs (“Hover H5”), the old displacement returned (4G69, 136 hp), but did not add enthusiasm. To help owners, some services offer flashing the control unit. The service is efficient and very popular.

Contrary to the permission to use the 92nd gasoline, it is recommended not to save and pour the 95th - due to the tendency of the motor to detonate. Fuel consumption can be considered adequate for the displacement of engines and the weight of the car. Don't skimp on oil changes either. Since this year, the manufacturer has reduced the interval between maintenance to 8000 km, and this is quite justified, especially when operating the Hover off good roads. Most of the faults are supplied by the motor equipment. Most often, the crankshaft sensor and lambda probes fail. In the first case, the problem is in the quality of the node, and in the second, half the battle is in our gasoline. Sometimes there is a malfunction of the idle speed controller, otherwise there are no more defects than those of famous manufacturers.

There are no complaints about diesel engines. A very rare atmospheric volume of 2.8 liters migrated from the Axiom and is found only on pre-styling H2 models. A supercharged 2-liter diesel engine is already a joint German-Chinese development, but it has become available only on the H5. Possessing high reliability, the new diesel engine, unfortunately, is no less lazy than its gasoline brothers. A significant turbo lag releases only after 2000 rpm, which is extremely uncharacteristic for diesel engines. But here, too, flashing will come to the rescue.

DOSED LOAD

The manual transmission is quite reliable. She suffers mainly due to unprofessional tuning. When installing additional protection, its airflow is disturbed, causing overheating, from which the bearings primarily suffer. This is also observed when oil change intervals are not observed. Fortunately, the box is structurally simple and maintainable.

The clutch is not famous for its high reliability. The average life is about 80,000 km, and that is greatly reduced when driving off-road. In the spare parts market you will find reinforced analogues. They will last longer, but the shifts will become tougher. At one time, there was a clutch basket defect on the H5, which is why the gears turned on badly on a warm car. On some "Hovers" the ringing of the release bearing was heard. For reasons not fully understood, his body touched the petals of the basket. The defect is treated by replacing the assembly with a selective selection of parts. There is a slight adjustment of the pedal travel, but contrary to rumors, this operation does not have a significant effect on the life of the linings.

The Aisin automatic transmission is only available on the H5 with a diesel engine. There are no problems with her.

FULL FORWARD

The transfer case control lever on the H2, when switching to the H3 model, gave way to a button (it is also found on the transitional H2).

On all Hovers, the front axle is engaged through an electronic clutch that controls the connection of the left wheel shaft to the front differential output shaft. With the clutch disengaged, free rotation of the front right wheel causes free rotation of the differential, as a result, other elements of the transmission do not rotate.

The all-wheel drive enable sensor most often becomes the culprit of malfunctions - the inability to connect or spontaneous locking of the clutch.

The mechanical part of the all-wheel drive does not cause problems. Maintenance of the dispenser comes down to timely oil changes. Bridges are reliable and designed for increased load. The main thing here is to follow the maintenance rules. There was a period when there was a factory marriage of internal anthers of CV joints. For no apparent reason, holes appeared into which grease was squeezed out. Timely replacement of covers helped.

There are spare parts on the market for fine-tuning the model: other main pairs, differentials with locks. Some services offer to raise the body. But even without fine-tuning, the off-road capabilities of the Hover meet the expectations of most owners.

DISAPPEARING SPECIES

"Hover" boasts a frame structure and reliable suspension. The only reason for complaints is the rear shock absorbers on the restyled H3 and H5. Owners complain about their excessive rigidity, which is why the rear of the car bounces on bumps. But you can pick up analogues softer. Silent blocks of the front upper arms run 80,000 km, and the lower ones - about 100,000. Balls last about 60,000 km and usually die in pairs. Silent blocks of the rear suspension live for about 100,000 km.

The braking system is poorly calculated. Due to the large weight of the car, the pads wear out very quickly: the front pads to 20,000 km, and the rear pads to 35,000. At the same time, the front brake discs are enough for 80,000 km, and the rear ones are rarely changed at all. With heavy use, already by 20,000 km, the brake mechanisms turn sour. It is worth doing their prevention with each change of pads. Steering malfunctions are found mainly on pre-styling H2. By about the age of five, the power steering pump may fail. The lower steering cardan connecting the angular gear and the rack is also weak. On H3, this design was abandoned. Reiki rarely break, and tie rods and tips are changed separately.

WEATHER IN THE HOUSE

The salon at first almost completely migrated from Axiom. But when upgrading to H3, they introduced their own version. Although sometimes there are transitional H3 with an old interior. The internal electrical equipment has a separate control unit. Because of his abnormal work, the electrician sometimes went crazy. During the recall campaign, this block was reflashed.

The disadvantage of the air conditioning system was the lack of a cabin filter (until this year) and the location of the lower refrigerant pipe, which suffers from reagents. The stove radiator requires attention - it sometimes flows on old H2.

The rain sensor can cause damage to the wipers. In winter, when the wiper blades stick to the glass, due to its operation, it cuts off the slots on the leashes. In the mechanism, plastic bushings also often break; to replace them, you will have to completely disassemble the trapezoid.

The review of the Great Wall Hover H5 was written solely for the sake of identifying the weak and which is so similar to its brother with the H3 index that you won’t immediately guess. Except perhaps only at a closer approach, when you consider the lights, the tailgate of the Great Wall Hover, the stamp for the license plate and the location of the emblem. And then, like a scientist who came across an ancient historical manuscript or a hunter who smelled game, you are impatiently waiting, which will either allow you to enjoy all the benefits of a new car engine, or be disappointed with another manufacturer's stamping.

Careful Analysis of the Great Wall Hover Model

And the first thing to strive for when analyzing a new modification of a certain automobile is a comparison with a previous and similar model. In any case, there are clearly more artifacts in front of the new Great Wall Hover. Unlike its brother with a deliberately brutal face, the Wall Hover H5 crossover has a much softer and more modern disguise, similar to the Mazda CX-7, and, of course, the engine of the new Great Wall Hover deserves a separate discussion.

As for the interior, the twins cannot be distinguished here.

Everything is virtually identical. Neither the chaotic general combination of plastics of different textures, nor the awesome look of the manual transmission poker, nor the lack of hooks for clothes will hide from the views of the driver and passengers. Although all this is trifles, an unpleasant aftertaste is already beginning to accumulate. But still, after several days of living together with the Great Wall Hover, you begin to understand that the Chinese managed to give the interior a little solidity.

We look under the hood. There, a 2.4-liter Mitsubishi engine with 136 hp is familiar to all owners of Eytreks and Outlanders. from.

But the developers of the new crossover added 10 Nm of torque, and the Great Wall SUV, along with the engine, automatically fit into Euro 4 standards. But it is still unknown whether a green collar, as some skeptics call the new environmental standards, will allow you to safely carry such a colossus weighing two tons.

Even the assembly of all parts: small, medium and large is very solid. Nothing and nowhere creaks, which is very pleasing.

There were also no rattling or so-called crickets during the ride.

In short, the salon meets all requirements. The review looks great, because of the high landing. But, however, the rear-view camera does not have a distance scale, and this is a minus. But the instrument panel is very convenient, on which rather large and easily perceived icons differ.

The ergonomics of the car are also at a height, which we put in the piggy bank of pluses. Various "twists", buttons and always at hand.

On the video - a review of the Great Wall Hover H5:

Upholstery

Used in the Great Wall Hover H5, in addition to textile upholstery, there is also a leather version. This is done not only for the sake of prestige, as the designers assure, but in terms of banal practicality. The Chinese are thoughtful people and they guessed before the Europeans that children, getting into a car, stain the fabric upholstery. After the outings loved by all family members, such upholstery is sent straight to dry cleaning, because velor, for example, is not so easy to wash on your own. So the developers from the Celestial Empire decided to produce leather interiors. Rubbed with a cloth - and that's it!

The technical characteristics of the Great Wall Hover H5, which are given above, do not include the high seating comfort of the Chinese SUV in the description. They are as well made as they are comfortable. All the necessary adjustments work easily, but there is still a small minus. Seats, even those that are raised all the way, are placed low from the floor. But the Chinese cannot be blamed for this. They probably did not count on tall people whose legs would often numb with such seats.

But the uncomfortable seats in this regard on the Great Wall Hover H5 are only in the front, and everything is still spacious in the back, like on the H3. And even with the front seats pushed all the way back. All this, along with a high ceiling, makes the car and driving it a comfortable pastime for people taller than 180 cm.

Still, the Chinese took into account the growth of Europeans.

As for the trunk of the car, it is quite full-weight - 810 liters, and a rug with a curtain is included.

Chassis Great Wall Hover H5

Well, now the most important thing is the chassis of the SUV, which, like dessert, is finally in store.

Engine

Unlike the younger brother H3, which is equipped with an outdated and nondescript two-liter gasoline engine from Mitsubishi, the Hover H5 engine is completely different.

They are put on the Great Wall Hover H5 SUVs as a two-liter turbodiesel engine with 150 hp. from. with an "automatic" and mechanics, and a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 136 liters. from. with mechanical transmission.

If everything is more or less clear with the gasoline version, after all, a lot of reviews were written on the Hover H3, let's focus on diesel modifications with automatic transmission.

Great Wall Hover H5 is equipped with a modern four-cylinder engine of the latest GW4D20 series. It can be stated openly that an engine of such power is entirely GW's own development. So, with a working volume of two liters, like the Hover H3, the engine is able to squeeze out 150 horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute! But that's not all. The design of the motor itself, although familiar to many, has a number of nuances. And the price of the Great Wall Hover H5 is much higher than the H3, because of this too.

For example, a four-valve with a variable length intake manifold deserves special attention. The Delphi Common-Rail fuel supply system has an operating injection pressure of 1800 bar, which is very good. And an excellent BorgWarner turbocharger gives the new Chinese SUV a slight advantage over some European and Japanese models. And if you add here also the new possibilities of torque, equal to 310 Nm at 2800 rpm, everything becomes clear. Such indicators are as much as 110 Nm higher than the gasoline counterpart, which has an engine capacity of 2.4 liters and a power of 136 hp. from. Agree, not bad, right?

In addition to the turbodiesel, the H5 has a new automatic transmission with the 5R35 index. It was not developed by the Chinese themselves and copied completely from the version of the Korean products Hyndai Powertech - a five-speed hydromechanical unit that allows you to change gears manually.

The Chinese had to change the gear ratios in the main pairs of bridges under the "automatic". For gasoline engines, as you know, they were 4.22 and were slow, but for diesel engines, you already need to set high-speed pairs with a number of 3.9. And accordingly, the maximum speed increased from 160 km / h to 170 km / h.

Also not bad. For all cycles, the gasoline version showed 10.7; 8.2 and 9.4 liters, respectively, urban, suburban and mixed traffic. For a diesel engine, these same indicators are 8.9; 7.6; 8.4. Impressive, right?!

Although in real races the average consumption was not so small - almost 12 liters per 100 km. But the driver also needs to get used to the new engine.

Great Wall Hover H5 - new, diesel - displays a very controversial conceptual solution. So, he does not have a downshift and, which is very strange, the Chinese do not say anything about this. For any SUV, the presence of a "lower" is a prerequisite, but in this particular case, this, of course, is a minus.

Another surprise is the distribution. Instead of the usual and already respected part-time scheme by all motorists, the Chinese resorted to the help of BorgWarner. such a modification is highly controversial for use, especially in Russian conditions. In this case, a hardwired front axle is preferable. As for the body of the dispenser, it is aluminum and very flimsy. Torque is not transmitted directly to the rear wheels, but through an electromechanical clutch. In a word, here the Chinese developers are clearly too clever.

On the video - test Great Wall Hover H5:

Maybe for frameless cars, which even a dirty little puddle seems to be an obstacle, this is quite suitable, then for a brutal and powerful SUV, which, in fact, the Great Wall Hover H5 should become, is nonsense.

Let's get the benefits:

  • the appearance of the Great Wall Hover SUV, which has become much better;
  • full compliance with Euro-4 standards;
  • high technical characteristics of the diesel engine and automatic transmission;
  • power and easy overcoming obstacles on the road.

And cons:

  • chaotic placement of plastic in the cabin;
  • unattractive manual transmission gear knob;
  • uncomfortable seat adjustment, especially the driver's;
  • weak playfulness from a place.

In conclusion, we bring a summary: the SUV is quite acceptable as a novelty. It has a lot of modern details and systems. But still, the Chinese have not yet reached perfection in terms of the overall compliance of all parameters.

On the suburban highway, another feature was revealed. With uniform motion, sometimes the question arose: “We, it seems, do not lag behind, but overtake everyone. Where are they going?." We compared the readings of the standard speedometer with those on the GPS-receiver taken with us. It turned out that the error in the big direction is large, especially at high speeds. In numbers, this is expressed as follows - 80 km / h in reality turn out to be 71-72 km / h, 100 km / h - 90 km / h, and 110 km / h - 95 km / h.

The 2.48 gear ratio makes downshifting very efficient, and the "short" first stage in the gearbox further enhances this feature. You can crawl uphill at a snail's pace at idle without touching the accelerator.

On the battlefield

Hover H5 is an SUV with Part Time all-wheel drive scheme, that is, the moment is constantly transmitted only to the rear axle. Driving on all-wheel drive on hard surfaces is undesirable, this will lead to accelerated wear of tires, main pairs and transfer case. At the same time, bearing in mind that it is desirable to switch to the 4x4 scheme in advance, when entering the training ground, the first thing we do is turn on the four-wheel drive with the corresponding button on the dashboard. Despite the fact that many modern SUVs allow the inclusion of four-wheel drive when driving at low speeds, we did this while at a complete stop. This avoids additional loads on the switching mechanisms.

On the descents and ascents of the range, the “lower” also drew special attention to itself. Its connection is permissible only in advance and at a complete stop of the car. The 2.48 ratio makes downshifting in the Hover H5 very efficient, and the "short" first gear in the gearbox further enhances this feature. You can crawl at a snail's pace at idle without touching the accelerator, and the engine will not stall even when driving up a decent hill. Naturally, the same property allows you to effectively brake the engine on the descents.

All the charm of a long-stroke gas pedal is immediately felt: with its help, you can very accurately dose the torque on the wheels, preventing them from slipping. This SUV really knows how to drive “pull”, and this is a very valuable quality for someone who often moves off the asphalt.

The suspension is also traditional for this type of car - an independent double wishbone front on longitudinal torsion bars, a continuous axle on springs and rods at the rear. In addition to the already mentioned energy intensity, such a scheme also has good moves. Obviously, the front torsion bar structurally does not imply a large “span”, however, it has a number of other valuable characteristics: low weight and the number of components, reliability and unpretentiousness. No wonder a similar design is used even on armored personnel carriers. But the rear spring suspension on the H5 shows good progress. Let the concrete "waves" of the polygon be adapted for trucks, but the car tenaciously clings to the surface with all four wheels. Hover does not have a cross-axle differential lock in the rear axle, but we did not manage to achieve diagonal hanging. All this allows us to expect that the H5 will not be suddenly immobilized on difficult terrain.

On the “correct” tires (even if they are of the All Terrain class), the car’s capabilities will increase significantly.

However, with geometric cross-country ability, not everything is as good as we would like. The angle of entry is limited by a plastic bumper protruding forward (28 degrees), behind - a “reserve” hanging under the bottom of the trunk and a long overhang (16 degrees), and the clearance is not so outstanding 190 mm. When assaulting slopes, it is also necessary to remember about the long wheelbase: the ramp angle is small (19 degrees) and you can “sit on your belly” at terrain fractures. However, even in such a situation, it will be difficult to damage anything, most of the units from below are “drowned” inside the frame, or covered with thick crossbars.

The ability to test the H5 on slippery soils in our case was limited to tires with an absolutely highway tread pattern. It was worth moving out onto the ground, wet after the rain, as Hover began to wag the stern and try to slide into any, even the smallest rut. At the same time, he did not try to get stuck and, on the whole, behaved predictably. We believe that on the “correct” tires (even if they are of the All Terrain class), the capabilities of the car will increase significantly.

Here we were able to check the operation of the ABS system. It comes into operation not too late, but provides quite a good and predictable slowdown. At low speeds, the system allows the wheels to lock up slightly, thereby reducing stopping distances on surfaces such as sand or fine gravel.

The average fuel consumption for the entire time of almost 700-kilometer test drive was about 11 l/100 km. So Hover proved to be also quite economical car for its class. The volume of the fuel tank is 70 liters, which, with such indicators, promises a cruising range at one gas station “up to a full” about 600 km.

The attitude towards cars from China in our country is still wary. However, this Great Wall is quite capable of shaking "public opinion" - in terms of quality and ease of use, it has already gone far ahead of its predecessors. Let the Hover H5 not yet be a "Chinese revolution". This is still a car for a connoisseur of constructive simplicity and the classic canons of real frame SUVs. But the next and very significant step in conquering the “place under the sun” has been made.

In the end, the "Koreans" were also once feared ...
