New volvo v60 cross country. The new Volvo V60 Cross Country

14.11.2021

Falling short of crossover. In addition to a 75 mm increase in ground clearance (210mm versus 135mm) and a black plastic body kit, springs and shock absorbers, anti-roll bars and other suspension settings have undergone modernization. The full list of improvements is still unknown, but by analogy with the older one, where in total more than 200 changes were made to the chassis, we can assume a similar impressive list of modifications.

Also, the new Cross Country is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive and Off-Road mode in the drive electronics settings, which is able to throw more torque to the rear wheels, is equipped with a hill descent assistant, the steering wheel becomes lighter, and the reaction to gas is softer. The database has an automatic braking system with functions for recognizing pedestrians, cyclists and large animals.

For a surcharge, the car can be equipped with the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system, operating at speeds up to 130 km / h. On roads with discernible markings, it steers within the lane, preventing it from entering the oncoming lane or the side of the road: moreover, like in the base "sixty", the algorithm has been adjusted in favor of more accurate cornering. Another legacy option is the automatic braking system when detecting obstacles from the side at an intersection.

Volvo V60 Cross Country has been announced in two modifications with the same two-liter turbo fours as other platform models: the petrol T5 with 250 hp. and a diesel D4 with 190 hp. Production will begin in the winter of 2018-2019 at the Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, Sweden, and orders in Europe are expected to start in early 2019. In Russia, the V60 Cross Country will certainly appear, but no dates have been named.

All-terrain wagons are a rare commodity on the automotive market. To be more precise, they can be counted on one hand. One of the latest innovations in this "piece" segment is the Volvo V60 Cross Country

These cars are made for those who do not like crossovers with their high center of gravity and worse handling compared to cars, but want to have a high ground clearance. Essentially, an off-road wagon is a desire to combine the best of cars and crossovers. And the desire, I must say, is very practical and reasonable. On occasion, you can drive off the road with such a car, but on the asphalt it is controlled almost like a passenger car.

Contributes to active movement in the traffic flow and steering is quite sharp and has an impressive reactive force, sometimes it even seems that the steering wheel is resisting too actively. This becomes especially noticeable in the presence of rut - then you have to hold it tightly in your hands. However, this fact does not spoil the overall positive impression. From row to row, the station wagon is rebuilt quickly, accurately and extremely reliably. And imperceptibly for myself, I begin to maneuver among the surrounding cars, and I do it as carefully and safely as possible - I do not "cut off" anyone, I do not approach anyone at a dangerous distance, because the electronic assistants are not asleep. At the same time, my pulse does not speed up one iota.

On the highway, the station wagon flies like an arrow, and along the winding highway it moves steadily and practically without rolls, only the steering wheel would be a little easier for it ... However, buyers have an option with which you can choose the effort on the steering wheel from three options. The chassis is perfectly balanced. In slippery corners, the car is practically "neutral" - the drift phase is small.

But the station wagon behaves even better in sliding. If you find a closed wide "ice" track, where you can go sweepingly, in a rally style, the V60 Cross Country will be able to give a lot of pleasant minutes to an experienced driver (however, turning off the stabilization system is not so easy, it is hidden in the jungle of the menu, and rightly so - there is nothing for anyone to put themselves and others at risk!). Having lost the electronic "collar", the station wagon is exposed sideways "at one time", and the sliding angle is ideally controlled by the "gas". If you want - drive economically, with slight drifts, but if you want - exhibit at least at a right angle. Moreover, if the car feels that the driver is losing control, it will still take the reins into their own hands. However, it does not interfere with an experienced driver. Shine!

The suspension is rigidly tuned. Small irregularities are almost not felt, but potholes and cracks still pass on the body with noticeable jolts. However, the level of vertical acceleration does not cause discomfort. On the second row, however, on a decently bumpy road, it shakes noticeably, but in general, passengers do not complain here either. And unlike most passenger cars, which are not very energy efficient, the V60 Cross Country has excellent shock resistance even in large holes and bumps. In addition, the chassis works almost silently, which gives its work a kind of premium nobility.

But the soundproofing of this station wagon should be devoted to a separate paragraph. Because it is very good - there is hardly a quieter car in this class, since even the well-known German “big three” does not effectively drown out the hum from the “rubber” as the “Scandinavian” does. Perfectly protects the station wagon from wind noise at high speeds. The engine sounds juicy and at the same time quiet, even at high revs.

So, Volvo has a unique car. And paradoxical. On the one hand, it gives an incredible feeling of calmness and security, on the other hand, it is able to give the driver "driver's" pleasure. Moreover, one does not contradict the other at all. To be honest, I don’t understand how the model constructors managed to do this. If we compare this model with the passenger "relatives" of the S60 and V60, as well as with the similarly sized XC60 crossover, then the V60 Cross Country handles as well as a passenger car, but it can drive on a bumpy dirt road no worse than an SUV. And precisely because of all these options, I would choose the Cross Country. I can assume that as soon as this car is tried by other admirers of the Swedish brand (and not only them), this particular version of the station wagon may even be in short supply - the car definitely has the makings of a bestseller.

5 / 5 ( 1 voice )

When November 2014 came, the Volvo car company decided to present at the Los Angeles Motor Show an off-road unit version of the B60 station wagon, which acquired the already standard Cross Country prefix to its name.

April 2015 became special for the Russian market, as the car reached us, after which orders began to be accepted. Many already know that sometimes on the platform of some of their cars, some firms produce something new.

For example, from the most standard hatchbacks, they produce compact crossovers, from the station wagon version - almost full-fledged SUVs. Therefore, Volvo decided to keep up with the release of a car based on the V60 station wagon. The whole range of Volvo.

Exterior

When the B60 station wagon first came out, a large number of specialized media, along with critics and experts, considered it one of the most stylish and attractive in its own category. And this is a well-deserved high ball.

Therefore, the Swedish specialists only have to take a good foundation and make every effort so as not to spoil it in the process of restructuring into a crossover. To our joy with you, they all turned out well and soundly.

Volvo V60 Cross Country

Yes, the car has retained the presence of elegance, dynamics of lines, impetuous image, however, it received new body elements that make you look at the car in a new way. The nose part is decorated with a wide mouth of a false radiator grill with a mesh, the shape of which resembles a honeycomb.

The traditional nameplate of the company from Sweden remained in its place. Engineers equipped the car with large head optics, bi-xenon and LED filling, which brings its charm to the exterior of the car, a long powerful hood, which successfully connects with an equally massive bumper installed in front, and is complemented by aerodynamic elements, as well as sections for fog strips, which were made of LED lamps.

Volvo V60 Cross Country side view

Generally speaking, the front of the Volvo V60 Cross Country car looks very cool and even bold. Embossed stampings can be seen on the bonnet. The side section looks elegant. There is a continuation of the adaptation of the car to the features of a small SUV.

This is noticeable in body kits, plastic protections for the edges of the wheel arches, large light-alloy wheel rims, the size of which can be 18 and 19 inches. There is also the presence of large doors, high glazing, powerful housings for external rear-view mirrors, LED turn signals, an impressive roof and other things, which actually makes it possible to evaluate the Volvo B60 Cross Country not as a station wagon, but as an almost real crossover.

Volvo V60 Cross Country rear view

The rear of the car has a large, comfortable tailgate, chrome elements, a beautifully executed exhaust system and protection that allows you to safely overcome even difficult road sections.

Honestly, the aft part of the Volvo makes it possible to find a lot of similarities not only with the station wagon version, on the platform of which Cross Country was designed, but also with the C60 sedan version, which company also decided to rebuild into a sedan with a SUV, producing the C60 Cross Country version.

Volvo V60 Cross Country front view

The car creates the feeling of a very stylish and somewhat sophisticated crossover. This is not a classic SUV designed for the frequent off-road and bumpy roads of our country. Despite the fact that he acquired body kits, plastic door sills, and a slightly lowered plastic edge on the front bumper, this is only for decorative purposes.

Volvo V60 Cross Country

Such protection will not be able to have a practical effect, however, with the help of impressive ground clearance, the lower part of the car will be preserved. Remained unchanged, except that the large red and white taillights, which were created in the corporate style.

The latter also touch the rear walls of the body. The black plastic bumper has a brushed metal decorative strip.

Dimensions (edit)

The novelty of the Swiss automobile production is presented in the following overall dimensions: in length, the station wagon is 4 638 mm, in width 1 899 mm, in height 1 545 mm, wheelbase is equal to 2 774 mm.

The height of the ground clearance turned out to be solid, as much as 201 mm, which will greatly delight the domestic motorists of our country. The station wagon version had only a modest 136 mm of ground clearance. The curb weight of the machine ranges from 1,712 0 1,836 kg.

Interior

The interior of the Cross Country off-road car fully copies the existing one in the B60 model, where everything looks simple, stylish, functional and expensive. When you get inside the car for the first time, you reluctantly highlight the excellent quality of any details, buttons and stitches.

The materials used for the finishes are just fine. If there is plastic, then it is soft even where competitors use cheaper, hard ones. The fittings were just perfect, the gaps between the joints are the smallest, and any button not only looks expensive, but is pressed with a “family” pleasant effort.

Interior Volvo V60 Cross Country

The front-mounted panel is minimalist, which is slightly diluted by the unique "floating" console installed in the center. The dashboard adjusts and changes according to the mood, and all displayed information is read with lightning speed, with the help of which the driver is not distracted for a long time from driving on the road.

The seats installed in front can be confidently called exemplary, because they have the optimal ratio of density, girth and softness. There is good lateral support that can keep a person in an optimal position when entering tight turns at high speed.

Photo of the salon Volvo V60 Cross Country

It is possible for any person to fit behind the steering wheel of a car without any special problems, no matter what his equipment and height are. This has been achieved thanks to the large number of seat and steering wheel settings. The steering wheel itself has an optimal diameter and has a slightly convex section, which makes it feel like the steering wheel is "poured".

The seats installed in the back are not devoid of comfort and provide the opportunity to comfortably sit for three people, but there is not much free space in the Volvo B60 Cross Country station wagon. And the transmission tunnel passing along the floor will cause discomfort for the passenger sitting in the center.

Luggage compartment Volvo V60 Cross Country

The luggage compartment is not a record, but it provides about 430 liters of usable space. However, this is not all, if necessary, you can increase the amount of useful space by folding the backrests of the rear seats, which are divided not into a pair, but into 3 sections, which causes a separate feeling of gratitude.

Therefore, in order to transport a lengthy vehicle, you do not need to drop all passengers. It's nice that the car has decorative elements such as wood and polished metal.

Specifications

The Swedish-made off-road vehicle comes with two diesel engines and a single gasoline engine. The base variation is said to be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel that develops 150 horsepower at 4,250 rpm.

More powerful units come in the form of a 5-cylinder turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that produces about 190 horsepower at 4,000 rpm.

The most powerful unit is a direct injection 5-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. It accelerates to 249 horses at 5,400 rpm.

All power units of the B60 Cross Country version, from Volvo, are synchronized with an uncontested automatic 6 and 8-speed gearbox, which, together with the base 2.0-liter version, transmits torque to the front wheels, and all "senior" ones to two axles, since there is already an all-wheel drive transmission with a Haldex clutch, which is located in the rear axle.

On the technical side, the SUV is unified with the unpretentious Volvo B60, where the Ford EUCD architecture is present. There you can find the presence of independent suspensions "in a circle".

The vehicle is steered by means of an electric power steering. The braking system is represented by the presence of all-disc brakes, which are complemented by a ventilation option on the front wheels.

Safety

It's no secret that safety is absolutely the main "feature" of all Volvo cars, which Swedish specialists and engineering staff devote the most hours.

Therefore, the Cross Country station wagon has the IntelliSafe system, which is designed to protect not only those sitting in the car itself, but also those outside it. Among this we can highlight the presence of automatic detection of pedestrians and motorists.

IntelliSafe system

Separately, I would like to say about the CitySafety system, which is able to prevent collisions with other cars when driving in a high-speed mode that does not exceed 50 km / h. In addition, the car uses the services of tracking the state of the driver, monitors the "blind" zones and knows how to warn the driver about moving cars in the intersecting direction.

CitySafety system

This allows you to more reliably leave a tight place in the parking lot, even if the driver is as limited as possible in his view. It is already customary that the brand new Volvo V60 Cross Country comes with a stabilization system, anti-lock brakes, directional stability, seat belts with pretensioners, and ISOFIX child anchorages.

Security systems include the presence of:

  • Electric lock inside for passenger doors with indication;
  • Protection of the driver's door lock from mechanical opening;

  • The passenger sitting in the second row in the middle may not be very comfortable, because of the transmission floor tunnel.

Summing up

Summing up the car, there is only a pleasant feeling. For this it is worth to thank the Volvo company, which did a great job. The design of the external appearance of the car turned out to be pleasant, modern, sporty, but at the same time stylish. There is also bi-xenon and LED lighting, which is very popular nowadays.

All this suggests that the Swiss do not want to lag behind advanced technologies, on the contrary, they are confidently moving forward. The hood received beautiful and bright stampings. The side part has solid wheel arches, where you just want to put large alloy wheel rims. The stern has a large luggage compartment door.

2016 Volvo V60 Cross Country

The salon, although it has migrated from the station wagon version and has nothing new, looks great. Everything is very high quality and expensive. The build level is, as always, on top. There is a comfortable and versatile steering wheel, a nice dashboard, a center console, which is topped with a color screen. It's nice to have a tree, which gives a certain status.

Buy a Volvo XC60 crossover or save a little and take the V60 Cross Country “shed” with a slightly lower ground clearance and trunk? A bottle of Sprite or a glass of granulated sugar? Vacation in Boksitogorsk or Monchegorsk vacation? Ali or Clay? We traveled to the "Cross-Country" and tried to name several reasons that can tip the scales in the direction of a sort of pensioner, but in fact, a very vigorous and punchy station wagon.

As the classic sang, the fifth reason is pain. We are in real pain. From hopelessness. It is a long time since I had to compare such similar cars, and both of them are excellent. Even the configurator on the official Volvo website says that all eight models presented in Russia are “excellent choices”. But we will try to somehow set off, justify Cross Country. And to figure out how it compares favorably not only from the XC60, but also from the usual, non-all-terrain V60 station wagon, the S60 sedan and its "raised" version of the S60 Cross Country.

There is no subtext in the presence of Spartak's home stadium in the background. It just happened.

### You have named a lot of models. And they all have almost the same name

Indeed, it is easy to get confused in all this. Volvo has a lovely S60 sedan and the same V60 station wagon we once sold. The latter in November 2014 received an all-terrain version of the Cross Country - with "summer cottage" plastic linings on the wheel arches and an increased ground clearance from 136 to 201 millimeters. And it was in this form that he returned to Russia.

Externally, the V60 Cross Country differs from the usual V60 station wagon with a fashionable radiator grille with honeycomb cells and body protectors. Well, and the ground clearance, of course. With all this, the car really looks like a combat "rogue".

The Cross Country suspension is partially unified not with the regular V60, but with Volvo's other all-terrain station wagon, the XC70. However, they didn’t explain to us how much it was unified: “To understand this exactly, the mechanisms must be disassembled and visually compared”.

But there was no special adaptation of the car to "Russian conditions". The ground clearance was not specially increased for us, no additional underbody protection was installed. The all-wheel drive system is exactly the same as on all Volvo AWD models, based on the fifth generation Haldex clutch.

Simultaneously with the V60 Cross Country, we also debuted the frankly wonderful, but similar to the station wagon, the S60 Cross Country sedan. A sedan that looks like an Inspector Gadget from the outside or as if the suspension was replaced with Ilizarov devices. The whole situation is aggravated by the presence of the XC60, the most popular Volvo model in Russia in recent years.

### So what's the problem?

Precisely because the S60 Cross Country, the V60 Cross Country, and the XC60 are all good. And the difference in price, if we compare the configurations close in terms of equipment, is not so critical. On the S60 CC, however, only a single 249-horsepower gasoline unit is installed, so it is more correct to compare the V60 CC with the XC60. Face to face. Four-wheel drive - to four-wheel drive. 190-horsepower diesel "five" against the same engine. 2 million 149 thousand for the version "in the base" against 2 million 199 thousand rubles for the initial configuration. See how serious this is?

### And which one is better?

Feels like these are so similar cars that for any buyer the decisive factor in the choice will be, excuse me, "a matter of taste." We are with all our heart and soul - for the V60 Cross Country. We like its shape, we like that it is a real estate car, not a station wagon that pretends to be a crossover. At the same time, the "cross-country" rides even slightly more interesting than the XC60. It is lower, its steering wheel is loaded with reactive force more, and the car rolls less when cornering.

At the same time, both cars have a common trump card - a velvet five-cylinder turbodiesel. It has the sexiest crackling sound in the world. At low revs, this unit more than fulfills the money invested in the purchase, publishing an overwhelming attractiveness "ur-rr". Colleagues from foreign publications picked up the best epithet of all possible for him - punchy, that is, punchy, strong, assertive.

Of course, at high revs, the motor's burrows “turn sour”, but if you switch the gearshift lever to the S position, you don't notice it anymore. All that remains is to put the digital dashboard into scarlet Performance mode ... Hold me seven!

### What equipment is available for Cross Country?

Oh, there is a lot of it. This is the UN Security Council, not a car. For example, in our instance the Driver Support Pack was installed. It includes a blind spot monitoring system, driver fatigue and lane crossing monitoring, and adaptive cruise control with full auto braking.

The digital instrument has three modes: Standard, Eco and Performance. The choice does not affect the driving characteristics - just beautiful

And, of course, it was not without Volvo's branded On Call and City Safety systems. We must admit right away that the adaptive cruise and the lane recognition system in Russian conditions work unpredictably. Very good, but still unpredictable. The sensors are constantly beeping for some unknown reason, everything in the cabin is blinking - the car is watching your every action too carefully. Whoever doesn't like it, you can turn off the assistants through the menu of the multimedia system. Or just don't order. With these "chips" the price of "cross-country" will exceed 2.4 million rubles. Our car also had a navigation system (41 thousand rubles) and an electric sunroof (63 thousand rubles).

### So the V60 CC has no flaws?

Like a self-sufficient machine - almost none. Only the brake pedal seemed to us too "wadded": during emergency braking, it can scare.

Compared to the XC60, there are only two drawbacks: a lower ground clearance (201 millimeters versus 230 millimeters) and a smaller luggage compartment (430 versus 495 liters). However, what are these disadvantages, if they can be easily justified. Lower ground clearance means better handling, and you will hardly feel the difference of 65 liters. In the V60 Cross Country, if you fold out the second row of seats and fill all the space to the ceiling, you can, in theory, take absolutely everything from the rented apartment through the nearest ravine. We checked - it works.

The all-new Volvo V60 Cross Country debuted at a special event on September 25, 2018. Her world presentation could be seen at the International Paris Motor Show of the same year. In fact, the model is a full-fledged second generation, not a restyling. The start of sales in the countries of the old world is scheduled for early 2019, and the first cars should reach the domestic market in the spring of the same year. Distinguishing such a version from the usual station wagon of the 60th series is not difficult. First of all, noticeably increased ground clearance and a classic black crossover body kit are striking. On the sills, bumpers and wheel arches, there are small covers made of protective unpainted plastic. At the rear, you can see an additional protective chrome strip and modified tailpipes of the exhaust system. On this model, they are two angular "double-barreled". Otherwise, the car has retained the refined and laconic design of the original model.

Dimensions (edit)

Volvo B60 Cross Country is a mid-size five-door all-terrain station wagon. Its overall dimensions are: length 4784 mm, width 1850 mm, height 1499 mm, and wheelbase 2874 mm. The ground clearance has been increased by 75 mm compared to the regular version, and is as much as 210 mm, which is quite a solid figure for this class. The vehicle is based on a proprietary SPA platform with a completely independent architecture. There are two wishbones in front, and a multi-link in the back. By default, coil springs and conventional telescopic shock absorbers are installed in a circle. At an additional cost, it is possible to order a pneumatic system and adaptive stands. Trunk size is impressive. With the backrests of the second row of seats up and loaded under the top bunk, the estate provides up to 529 liters of free space. If you donate the back sofa, you can get up to 1441 liters.

Specifications

In the domestic market, the car is sold exclusively with one set of units. The Volvo V60 Cross Country is powered by a two-liter T5 turbocharged inline four. Thanks to an advanced supercharging system and direct fuel injection, it produces 250 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm of thrust in the range from 1800 to 4800 crankshaft revolutions per minute. A classic eight-band hydromechanical automatic with eight gears is used as a gearbox. The drive is exceptionally complete. Acceleration from zero to hundreds will take 6.8 seconds, and the high-speed ceiling is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour.

Equipment

In Russian dealerships, the Volvo V60 Cross Country is supplied exclusively in the Plus configuration. It, by default, includes front side and side airbags, curtains, traction control and anti-lock braking systems, coupled with ESP, leather interior, LED headlights, as well as light and rain sensors. At an additional cost, options such as an automatic parking system, laminated side windows, an all-round visibility system and a panoramic roof are available.

Test drives Volvo V60 Cross Country

Test drive December 11, 2019 Are there any claims to the genetics of the Volvo V60 Cross Country

Station wagons, nicknamed "wagons" and even "sheds", are not enough on the Russian market once or twice. The more curious is the novelty - the off-road model, arguing with crossovers.
