How to choose wheel sizes for UAZ. What wheels and tires to choose for UAZ Loaf? Winter wheels for UAZ loaf Tires for UAZ 452

09.12.2021

Mankind, in search of the ideal, has been looking for many years, and continues to look for a car that would meet the following conditions:

  • Increased patency when driving on poor quality roads or in their absence.
  • Low price.

And if many modern car models meet the first condition: jeeps, crossovers, then the fulfillment of the second condition is unrealistic. The fact is that the high cross-country ability of the car is provided by a number of parameters. Among them:

  • Overall parameters: clearance, overhang angle, static stability angle, passable angle.
  • Traction - type of drive, specific power, thrust-to-weight ratio
  • Fifth wheel - specific pressure on the soil, type of suspension, tire adhesion coefficient.

"Pull" the creation of a high-quality SUV is only possible for large automobile concerns Toyota, Mercedes, Chevrolet. The prices for SUV models of these manufacturers are high. Therefore, the views of ordinary motorists often turn to the East - to Russia, where "not roads, but directions." In this regard, the creation of its own economical model of a car capable of driving on any surface became mandatory 60 years ago with the conquest of the taiga and tundra.

In those years, a number of off-road vehicles were created by Soviet automakers. The most popular and favorite among drivers was a series of off-road vehicles produced at the UAZ plant - the UAZ-450 and the successor to the UAZ-452. The popularity is evidenced by the fact that its common name - "loaf", given by the plant's engineers because of the characteristic shape of the car, has taken root among the people.

UAZ "loaf" is known to any resident in the territory of the former USSR.

The history of the "loaf" and its benefits

Last year, the 60th anniversary of this "people's" car was widely celebrated. Few people know that the first "loaves" were representatives of another UAZ family - the UAZ-450, produced before 1965. In 1966, changes were made and the updated UAZ was assigned a new index - 452. For more than 50 years, the outlines of the model body have remained unchanged. By the way, the onboard modification of the UAZ-452 is called the "tadpole".

The design and level of comfort in this UAZ model are Spartan, but the car is not designed for comfort. But in other respects, this is a unique car that combines the size and price of an economy class car, the capacity of the cargo part, which will give odds to a truck, and the UAZ-452's cross-country ability is such that residents of many remote and hard-to-reach areas, foresters, fishermen, hunters are ready to pray for "loaf".

Tires for UAZ "loaf"

Motorists who purchase the UAZ-452 model, as well as the upgraded modifications -33741 and -33909, make this choice because of the spaciousness, reliability and cross-country ability. This is a cargo-passenger vehicle, in which, in addition to cargo, 5 people can fit. Tires on the UAZ "loaf" must be powerful and reliable in order to cope both with the load in the cabin and with different types of coverage. Tires are of the following types:

  • Summer
  • Winter
  • Universal or all season

Each of them has pros and cons. All-season tires - inexpensive and silent. At the same time, it wears out quickly, is not suitable for driving in ice, does not allow you to gain high speed, and does not withstand sudden changes in temperature. Winter tires are studded and studless. For the city, a friction tire option is suitable. It has excellent traction without sacrificing speed. It makes sense to install a studded one in the northern regions, starting from the Moscow region and further east, where winters are snowy and roads are usually not very cleared.

The versatility of the "loaf" is emphasized by the fact that off-road tires of any type are suitable for it:

  • Standard off-road, providing optimal grip on any road surface. The downside is it's very noisy.
  • Mud - you can comfortably drive through mud or very wetlands. In this case, the machine loses control over the knurled or smooth surface.
  • Extreme - you can drive through the most difficult sections of the road. The disadvantages of this type are extremely low speed and lack of controllability when accelerating.

The UAZ-452 leaves the factory, equipped with wheels on disks, the diameter of which is from 29 to 33 inches, and rubber in two versions:

  • 225/75R16.
  • 235/74 R15 - on some models
  • Disc bolt pattern - 5 * 139.7.

What custom sizes can be supplied

A larger option for the R17 disc on factory cars as standard did not become popular due to the fact that rubber of this diameter touches the wheel arches without changing the suspension height. Since today there is a very large selection of rubber in regular sizes, the practice of using non-standard tires has not become widespread.

Another issue is the modification of your car, in particular, raising the suspension to a given height. The changes will affect the transmission and body of the car, but will allow it to be equipped with tires even 37-39 inches high, which will significantly increase the permeability of the “loaf”.

The tire pressure indicator is important because it determines how your UAZ will behave while driving. Affects handling, ride softness, road grip, fuel consumption. Here is a table of pressure depending on the size of the tread and the width of the disk:

It can be seen from it that the optimal tire pressure for the UAZ "loaf" is 1.7-1.9 kgf / cm2 for the front, 2.2-2.4 for the rear. If you want to achieve greater softness, you should slightly reduce the pressure. It is checked like this:

  • After removing the cap, connect the device for measuring pressure - "manometer"
  • Look at the testimony
  • If the pressure is less than required, pump up
  • If more, reduce the pressure slightly by pressing on a certain part of the pressure gauge.

Overview of the best summer and winter tires

Choosing the best tires for the UAZ "loaf" becomes a difficult task. Today, manufacturers offer dozens of options for "domestic" and imported rubber. Here is a table of "Russian" tires for various UAZ models:

Top 5 summer and winter tire options for your UAZ

Winter tires

When choosing such rubber, one should start from the areas where the car is used and the availability of good roads. The versatility of tires, their heaviness and noise, the controllability of the car when using them, speed, and balance are important. Out of a sense of patriotism, we added two domestic models to the list. Considering that winter tires can be studded and non-studded, we expanded it to 6 positions:

  • Omskshina Ya-192 is a classic of domestic tire production. An inexpensive option for riding in the autumn-spring period through mud and mud. Aggressive tread reduces braking distance to a minimum. According to reviews on snow or ice, it is less manageable. The cost of one tire is from 3000 rubles.
  • Cordiant Winter Drive is an economical option for non-studded winter tires of European quality. The price for R16 is 4000 rubles.
  • Studded tires Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 for 14,000 rubles - Finnish manufacturers have taken care of cross-country ability, handling and wear resistance. Perhaps the best option from European analogues.
  • Non-studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 for 10,000 rubles.
  • Studded Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice Arctic - about 9 thousand rubles. Ideal for regions where winters are the coldest.
  • The non-studded Michelin X-Ice 3 is a lightweight tire thanks to a special rubber blend. Low fuel consumption, good stability and handling even at high speed

Summer tires

The choice of summer tires depends on the goals pursued by the car owner. Special tires are needed to move on mud, sand or extreme trails. The best mud tires, in our opinion, are:

  • The BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 is by far the best mud tyre. The steering wheel obeys perfectly and is very sensitive, rare noiselessness when driving at high speed, wear resistance. The price is high - about 13,000 rubles, but the advantages of these tires more than cover the cost of them.
  • Nokian Rockproof is a model, just for cases with "directions". High-strength, rigid, stone repellents are built into the protectors. If you are going to an area with a complete lack of roads, this is a good option. Economical - 8000 rubles.
  • Kumho Road Venture is one of the cheapest among foreign models. Price - from 6000 rubles. For little money - high cross-country ability, softness, handling at high speed on a smooth road.
  • Bridgestone Dueler - an economical model from the tire industry leader for 7000 rubles. When creating these tires, the manufacturer used the latest technology. There are no special advantages, but there are also no disadvantages.
  • I-471 is a good local analogue for 3000 rubles. Differs in patency in water due to the grooves on the tread that remove moisture, and convenience when driving on the highway.

mud rubber

Created on the basis of an off-road car, a car with a body of a minibus UAZ-3962 (3309), in colloquial terms - UAZ loaf, was most widely used. Despite the unsightly appearance and technically outdated design, due to its high cross-country ability and reliability, the machine is used as a workhorse and is currently being produced. Service in an ambulance, teams of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in forestry and agriculture - all this applies to this car.

Taking into account the difficult conditions, increased requirements are imposed in those conditions when tires are selected for the UAZ loaf. The conditions when the car mainly works on urban asphalt roads differ significantly from the conditions of rural off-road conditions. In addition, rural roads change significantly with the time of year.

Wheel size for UAZ

The standard tires on the UAZ loaf are installed with the following size: 225/75 R16, and in some periods the car was equipped with 235/74 R15 tires. In any case, it must be borne in mind that the staging diameter of the disc should be in the range of 29-33 inches. This size does not lead to additional changes in the design of the car. In addition, the steel disc must meet the 5×139.7 fastening size requirements.

There are cases when tires were used on a rim size R17, but with a low profile tire itself. However, due to the large selection of standard tires of any models, this practice has not received wide distribution.

In the event of an overloaded car or at maximum suspension travel, even when installing a normal tire size, the rubber touched the wheel arches. This situation is not critical and there is no serious destructive effect on rubber.

Winter tires

Given the prevalence of the car and a wide variety of operating conditions, a wide variety of tires are provided for installation on the UAZ loaf. The market presents not only categories of domestic, but also imported rubber for UAZ. There are 3 main categories:

  • universal;
  • mud;
  • winter;

But any owner must choose for further use exactly the model that is suitable for specific tasks. Since it is hardly possible to enjoy driving around on noisy mud tires, while at the same time with a significantly increased gas mileage.

Line of domestic tires

Among domestic rubber options, the following brands are considered mass models.

Best all-rounders

Universal tires for UAZ:

  1. Bel-24 235/75 R15. The Belarusian analogue has good average characteristics in all respects, fully justifying the purpose of the tire as a universal one. High wear resistance is noted, and operating experience allows us to talk about a resource of 60 thousand km.
  2. "I-502" has a size of 225/85 R15. The load capacity is 950 kg, and the maximum speed is 150 km/h.
  3. Ya560 allows a maximum speed of up to 180 km / h.
  4. "I-357A". This is a radial version of the rubber above, which is characterized by better speed and is able to carry a large allowable load of up to 1060 kgf. This type of tire is somewhat softer and, with a similar pattern, tolerates movement in muddy mud much better. You can also note good directional stability on the road.
  5. "Ya245" and "Ya245-1" has a size of 215/90 R15. This brand of tire is distinguished by a low maximum speed - 110 km / h and a relatively low weight of 775 kgf.

Rubber for mud use

Among the requirements that can be set when choosing rubber for use on bad roads are:

  • developed lugs;
  • weight not exceeding the allowable indicator for the car;
  • permissible width is not more than 250 mm;
  • affordable price;
  • impact resistant tire sidewalls.
  1. "I-502". It has a number of advantages: low noise level, good cross-country ability on any roads and low rolling resistance under good road conditions. This model adequately copes with resistance to mechanical damage.
  2. "I-506". It has good resistance to displacement in the longitudinal direction and excellent directional stability. It has a low noise level, and additionally allows the screwing of spikes for the winter period. The only gripe can be called some rigidity of the wheel.
  3. "I-520". Another worthy representative of rubber for UAZ. This tubeless model allows the car to confidently hold the road and control in various conditions. Noise from rubber does not exceed transmission sounds. This tire has good self-cleaning properties, which is quite important for an off-road tire. It is noteworthy that for this model it is easy to pick up snow chains.
  4. A relatively new model was the Ya471 model. The tire provides a smooth ride, somewhat swallowing minor bumps. Provides good directional stability and low noise level. Decently behaves not only on dirty roads, but also in the sand. Among the comments on this model can be called difficult balancing.
  5. An excellent tire for bad roads is the Y192 tire type. This is one of the best tires for mud. However, the model is somewhat noisy on asphalt and does not differ in smoothness.
  6. "I409". This rubber on UAZ is suitable for use at any time of the year. The model copes well with mud, but also feels comfortable on snowy roads. Performance on clean ice is somewhat worse, but the car can be handled while moving.
  7. Model "Я358" is intended primarily for installation on the front drive axle. This diagonal tire is not very fast. But she does an excellent job on difficult roads, with the exception of wetlands, where she is capable of self-burrowing.

UAZ is a beast car, especially if it is not stock, but properly pumped and, most importantly, normal patency tires are installed. Of course, I understand that all sorts of things there seem to be not bad, but their price tag is, to put it mildly, indecent. But few people know (those who are just starting to master off-road conquest) that you can buy cool tires for absolutely ridiculous money.

UAZ is a domestic car, right? Well, let's put it on shoes in domestic rubber, since the rigid suspension design will withstand any bullying. Of the minuses of our rubber, one can almost always note its oakiness, rigidity. The patency of the car suffers only in the swamp due to the inability to flatten the rubber under the weight of the car. But in the forests, fields, where there is clay, mud, such tires will give odds to any imported MT-shke. what can I say - properly selected tires can compete with extreme class tires.

Therefore, I offer you a selection of proven rubber from a domestic manufacturer. Some slippers can be cut and significantly increase the permeability, while some already cope with the dirt. In general, let's go.

I-245

Not so long ago I saw a UAZ on such tires, but it was ordinary, and the UAZ was stock. In general, I was not impressed, the “box 245” has a medium-sized tread pattern and is poorly suited for mud. But the Uazovody people are savvy and sharpened to do such things with this rubber ... In general, if you cut it, it starts to “tear” most imported MT slippers.

Tire size 215/90/R15 - in inches 30.2
The price for a balloon is only 2600 rubles (freebie sir)

So, take a look at this drawing to understand what will happen to your I-245 when you cut it:

As you can see, the tread pattern begins to resemble the coolest Simex Jungle Trekker, which costs 4-5 times more. Of course, it’s not worth seriously comparing Simex and Yashki, but according to the reviews of those who cut 245, it really became cooler. The Goodriches and other "importers" were beaten at once. UAZ rows like a tractor and gets stuck only when it sits on bridges.

And this, by the way, is not surprising, because the cut Yashka is prone to burying, and instantly. For the side “teeth” of the tread have thinned out so much that they dig the ground like a marmot. Therefore, on peaty soils, be more careful - lower your tires and do not accelerate too much, otherwise you will dig in and sit on bridges.

I-192

Another most popular rubber from Omskshina (it is softer than Yaroslavl), perfect for UAZ. Many are simply sure that these tires are the best for stock UAZs - for those who do not want to lift anything, cut arches and do other modifications. And I think it’s not worth arguing here, it’s an excellent passable and, most importantly, cheap tires.

The size is the same - 215/90R15
The price for a bottle is a little more expensive than the first one - 2800 rubles

Unlike the first one, you don’t need to cut anything here, the default slippers are already really cool. No wonder they are so popular with Uazovodov - the tread pattern is somewhat similar to the BF Goodrich KM2. It is also very similar to the Forward Safari 510, only 192 is a little narrower.

The distance between the checkers is very decent, rakes in mud with a bang, just as prone to digging, like any other rubber with a large tread.

The tire size is ideal for stock UAZ - up to 31 inches. In the photo - a comparison with the famous.

And of course, those who just want to increase the patency at least a little more can cut it. There are also several cutting options for I-192, here are a couple:

In the first version, some kind of “cuts” are made on the checkers - so that the dirt is squeezed out better. Yashki became similar to Goodrich KM2 - as the owner noted, the cross-country ability became a little better. And therefore there is a reason to spend time and cut the rubber.

Well, the second option is simpler - the side checkers are cut through one, thereby increasing the distance between the side "teeth". The rumble along the track will increase, rest assured, but the cross-country ability will increase markedly.

Or another cutting option - half is cut off from each tread.

These two models of Russian “slippers” for UAZ are the most in demand among UAZ owners, although there are still a lot of options. Take at least the same.

Voltyre F-201

If you can find such “slippers” on sale, you will become the king of clay)) You don’t need to cut anything, everything is already very large and excellent.

Size — 31*10R15(255/75/R15)
Sidewall 6-layer, strong
The speed index is true 30 km / h (like the tractor VL-30)
Delicious price - 2800 rubles per bottle

As you can see, it is very, very similar to the Ya-192, but it covers its drawback - Yashka is narrow, and the F-201 is wider. The side lugs are solid, the tread pattern is very large. For mud, just what the doctor ordered. As the people who checked the shoes in battle say, it rows just monstrously, you can’t imagine better for clay.

In the swamp and liquid mud, there is simply no, this is its main joint, all because it is oak and does not flatten even at zero pressure. For a swamp, save up for boggers or at least Simeks)) And so ef-ka is very creditable in terms of cross-country ability (where it is possible to get to the stronghold without sitting on bridges) and appearance.

Well, for starters, I can still throw you a photo - 5 models of domestic rubber for Oise:

From left to right:

I-471, Forward Safari 500, I-192, some kind of "Ka-shka" and the fifth -. The price tag for each model is not lethal, it is quite possible to pull everyone.

But personally, I would put the Ya-192 on the UAZ, and if you also cut it, it’s just beautiful. Well, this is for those who do not have money for proven extreme models from Simex and TSL.

By the way, if you have more money than 3-4 thousand per wheel, I recommend that you take a closer look at the following models -. Rubber is just a bomb, especially 888, my friend cuts through this one - he doesn’t need anything else, in his words))

The choice of discs and tires on the UAZ 469 is the most important factor affecting the comfort and safety of the ride. In general, the wheels for such SUVs do not differ in any design features and are similar to other brands of domestic cars. Consider the main parameters of the rims UAZ 469, 31512, 31514, 31519, 3153, Bars, Hunter.

The standard indicators for mounting disks are as follows:

Reaming 5 * 139.7, where 5 is the number of holes on a diameter of 139.7 mm.

DIA must be at least standard (108 mm), otherwise the wheel will not be able to fit on the hub.

When choosing tires and wheels for tuning the UAZ 469, it is important to consider the following:

The tire width must be matched to the width of the disc, as a rule, the tire manufacturer indicates this information on the tire itself, accompanied by the inscription: "recommend size for disc 15/8".

The offset of the disk is selected in such a way that the wheel does not come into contact with the body elements and the transmission of the car during the articulation of the suspension, as well as the extreme positions of the steering wheel.

Let us consider in more detail the wheel sizes for the UAZ Hunter, 469.

1. Regular wheels:

215/90R15; 225/70 R16

If global alterations are not planned on the car, but you just want to move away from regular disks to more reliable ones, then the line of ODS disks has the following sizes:

Wheels fit:

235/75R15; 245/70R16; 30/9.5 R15

2. To increase the wheels to 31-32 inches, it is necessary to install a minimum suspension or body lift, change the offset of the off-road disk for the UAZ Hunter in the negative direction:

31x10.5 R15; 245/75R16; 255/70R15; 255/70R16

The pivot angle of the UAZ Hunter is designed only for a standard reach, the use of a negative reach will lead to rapid wear of the pivots. However, uazovods often use old-style kingpins on bushings or kingpins and liners from the Altai company Vaksoil, which allow them to cope with the indicated loads.

3. The next stage is the installation of a body lift 2 inches and above, the transition to 33-inch wheels.

Off-road wheels for UAZ Hunter:

265/75R16; 33/10.5 R15; 285/75 R16; 33/12.5 R15

At this stage, many Hunter owners stop, the car copes with the tasks of hunting, fishing and expeditions - where not only not a single puzater will reach, but also the owner of the same pepelats, only not prepared.

4. Further tuning - building 469 for specific off-road tasks. To install 35 tires, it is necessary to carry out a number of works, in particular: a body lift from 5 cm, a suspension lift, usually 6 cm front suspension, 6-8 cm rear suspension. For such clients, there are many types, sizes of tires, we will focus only on off road wheels on UAZ.

Motorists who choose UAZ vehicles primarily appreciate their cross-country ability and reliability. All UAZ models are, let's say, spacious, but sometimes this is not enough. For such cases, the UAZ Bukhanka model with increased capacity is provided.

In addition to the fact that the car includes an increased volume of cargo, it can accommodate more than five people. Accordingly, tires for the UAZ Bukhanka need powerful ones that can withstand the expected load.

In addition to the UAZ-452, the Loaf includes models:

  • 2206,
  • 3741,
  • 3909,
  • 3962,
  • 39625.

Alternative names - Tablet, Baton.

Tire pressure and dimension

To maximize the potential of this SUV, you will need to choose tires of optimal parameters and observe a certain pressure in them.

Regarding pressure, it is worth noting that it should not exceed 2.5 atmospheres. At the same time, in the front wheels it is recommended that the indicator be slightly less than in the rear.

So, let's consider the optimal mud tires for the UAZ Loaf.

Cordiant Off Road

These Russian tires are the most budget option, but because of this, their quality still does not suffer. For small off-road, these tires are quite suitable. Their wide tread grooves are well cleared of mud.

However, due to the fact that the blocks are made of hard rubber, on strong off-road, a car equipped with Cordiant Off Road feels insecure. They are best suited for the summer season and operation on a country road. In winter, the rubber becomes excessively hard.

Contyre Expedition

This model has the same tread pattern as the previous one. Therefore, self-cleaning of dirt is also good.

However, Contyre Expedition tires, also produced in Russia, are better because they are made of softer rubber. Thanks to this, it became possible to conquer off-road more seriously. But on the pavement, they are also noisy and poorly controlled.

Cooper Discover STT

These tires from the American company Cooper noticeably outperform previous models. However, their main drawback is their high cost. UAZ Loaf is a budget car, and not every owner is ready to put such expensive tires on it.

The rest of the tires are just great. The central rib provides good handling, the side blocks are reinforced, so when hitting a bump, the tires do not deform. The cross-country ability of a car with Cooper Discovery STT increases markedly.

This American model is still a novelty, so it does not have many competitors. Such tires are recommended to be installed if the UAZ is supposed to move through mountainous terrain, stones and serpentines.

BF Goodrich Mud Terrain is also suitable for off-road driving, as the grooves form whole channels that are well cleaned of dirt.

Among the shortcomings of this model, it is worth noting that when installing on a Loaf, you will need to cut out the wheel arches, albeit a little. Their cost is not the lowest, but the tires are worth the money.

Omskshina Ya-192

Consider the option from Russian manufacturers. These tires are budget tires, so they are often found on UAZ Bukhanka cars. They seem to be specially prepared for these machines, as they are installed simply and do not require alterations.

Thanks to the tread, the cross-country ability is excellent, on the mud they feel “at ease”. If you need very inexpensive tires with good flotation, then this is an ideal option.

The body of the UAZ Loaf is more like a minivan than an SUV, but nevertheless, thanks to its high ground clearance and reliable suspension elements, this car becomes a true companion when overcoming off-road. So that the car does not get stuck, it is recommended to choose high-quality tires for it that are unable to fail at a crucial moment.

If a Bosch fuel system is installed on the car, then it is better to order high-quality diagnostics and repair of Bosch injectors from professionals who can identify even the smallest deviation from the norm.
