The KIA Optima 2018 model was first released in 2010. This is a large-sized Korean-made one, which many Russians have already fallen in love with.
And in 2010 (after another restyling) the car received a new name, with which it lives on the Russian market to this day. The third generation of the brand again became the owner of a completely new appearance, the grille and headlights changed their shape, the appearance of the car became more elegant, powerful and practical. Now it can seriously compete even with European cars.
Exterior review of KIA Optima 2019
The appearance of the car has changed slightly when compared with the previous version. The model began to look more attractive and modern, it really turned out to be a beautiful car. The front part of the car received beautiful lensed optics with LED filling. The sculpted hood smoothly transitions to a narrow but beautiful chrome radiator grille. The massive bumper has chrome-plated air ducts and aerodynamic elements.
From the side, the sedan has elegant, flowing lines both at the top and at the bottom of the body. The swollen arches have 16th wheels as a base, but 17th wheels can be installed as an option. There is also a chrome decorative insert on the wing, which is most often installed on sports cars.
The rear part has been greatly redesigned and, in the opinion of many, quite successfully. The embossed trunk lid is equipped with a small spoiler. The rear optics are narrow and equipped with LED filling. The massive KIA Optima bumper received a chrome insert in the lower part, and an exhaust pipe was located on the right side. Other versions may have a diffuser and two exhaust pipes.

Technical characteristics of KIA Optima 2018
Now any of 3 engines can be installed on the new sedan; the first two units were already present in the previous generation, and now a new one has been added.
- The basic configuration includes a 2-liter unit, which is familiar to owners of the previous generation. For those who don’t know, this is a 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that produces 150 horses with its displacement. With this engine, the car reaches the first hundred in 9.6 seconds, and the top speed is 205 km/h. This is the only unit that is offered in tandem with a manual and automatic transmission. He uses 10 liters around the city.
- The second engine has a volume of 2.4 liters, it is also a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. The power of this unit is 188 horsepower, and it accelerates the sedan to the first hundred in 9 seconds. The maximum speed is 210 km/h, and the consumption is 12 liters of 95 gasoline in the city.
- The new engine is also a 2-liter engine, but already equipped with a turbocharger and now its power is 245 horses. With this engine, the KIA Optima 2019 sedan accelerates to hundreds in 7.4 seconds, and the top speed will be 240 km/h. This engine consumes 12 liters in the city, and on the highway it will need 6 liters.
Interior
The third generation model will delight the owner with a presentable interior, high quality seat upholstery and interior trim. And this is not surprising, because the car is presented as a representative of business class sedans.
The interior has become much more spacious due to the expansion of the wheelbase.
The quality of noise insulation has improved significantly, and the cabin has become much quieter. An additional soundproofing shield reduces engine sound entering the cabin.
The model is equipped with a number of functional and interior bonuses:
- The chairs have become anatomically more adapted and comfortable;
- The built-in Bluetooth headset will allow the driver to communicate with the interlocutor using Hands-Free technology. Calls will be output to a speaker, and a microphone will be built into the ceiling space above the driver;
- The 2019 Optima's instrument panel features 4.3-inch and 8-inch displays. They will allow you to comfortably monitor the car’s performance at any time;

KIA Optima 2018 suspension
The car's suspension characteristics are not bad; it is an independent suspension with stabilizer bars at both the front and rear. Earlier versions had a coil spring (2000) and a transverse stabilizer (2005) as rear suspension.
(2016-2017), along with a number of other Kia-Hyundai models, is assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. The updated four-door has significantly increased body rigidity, increasing the share of high-strength steels from 20 to 51 percent. Along with this, the car’s engine range was revised, which in the new specification includes three gasoline engines.
The role of the base power plant is assigned to the well-known 2.0 MPI unit with a power of 150 hp. (196 Nm). The Nu series engine with distributed fuel injection is combined with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The first tandem accelerates the car faster (acceleration to 100 km/h – 9.6 seconds) and saves fuel a little better (average consumption – 7.7 liters).
The second in the range of Kia Optima engines is the “four” 2.4 GDI with an aluminum block, direct injection and a variable intake timing system. The output of the unit is 188 hp, torque – 241 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
At the top of the engine line is the 2.0 T-GDI turbo unit of the Theta II series, which is located under the hood of the most powerful modification of the car - the Kia Optima GT. Peak output 245 hp. and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, maintained in the range of 1400-4000 rpm, allow the sports version of the sedan to accelerate to “hundreds” in 7.6 seconds. Similar dynamics are also provided by a 6-speed automatic transmission, which differs from automatic transmissions designed for naturally aspirated 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines. In this case, a box with the factory index A6LF2 is used, which better handles high traction.
The front suspension of the Kia Optima is MacPherson strut mounted on a subframe, the rear is independent on wishbones with a stabilizer bar. The steering is equipped with an electric power steering, mounted on a rack in the GT version (in other modifications it is installed on the steering column).

KIA Optima, 2016
I’ve owned a KIA Optima for less than a month now, I’ve driven about 28,000 km. Over the entire period of operation, there were only minor factory defects (the front left headlight fogged up, the rear parking sensors glitched and the paint on the plastic lining of the trunk lid cracked (as it turned out, due to the strong tightening of the bolts at the factory). This was all replaced quite quickly under warranty, It didn’t cause any discomfort. I take care of the car quite carefully, I fill up exclusively at good gas stations, I change the oil every 7,500 km. The car is excellent, drives briskly, is spacious, has everything you need for comfort, and with proper use you will only spend on consumables: on. oil filters, oil and cabin filters. So if anyone still doubts, feel free to take the KIA Optima and, better yet, the GT version.
Advantages : all modern options. Good dynamics and handling. Price quality. Inexpensive service. Roomy.
Flaws : The trunk does not open completely when opened with the key. Big appetites (in my case, the average consumption is 16 liters/100 km, I drive quite dynamically). Thin paintwork. Multimedia is weak.

KIA Optima 2.4 GDI 2016, GT-line version. Engine 2.4 GDI. Allows you to refuel with 92 gasoline. When accelerating, it sounds decent, but at idle and in traffic jams during smooth acceleration, the sound is mournful and boring. There are 3 modes of operation of the box. I drive Eco all the time. Consumption on the highway was around 8 liters, now in the city it is 11.5 - this is when driving slowly in traffic. If you want to drive it - 16 l/100km. Acceleration is smooth and confident. No noise is heard from the arches (the dealer had additional sound insulation done). 4 months after the purchase, the engine compartment is absolutely clean (even after the Crimean fields). The suspension is quite stiff. I have 18 wheels. Probably because of this. It often breaks out on tram tracks and on large cracks. The pads and discs need to be allowed to break in. At first I couldn’t get the required force on the pedal. Now it slows down without any complaints. Just the other day, I had to do a “moose test”, at a speed of about 80 km/h, on a wet road, on tram tracks. KIA Optima did not disappoint. Music is good when I listen directly from the Internet. Cool sound settings for the cabin. I first saw this on the new XC90. The phone works great via Bluetooth. Navigation through contacts is convenient. The sensitivity of the microphone is good - the child from the back seat communicates with his mother without raising his voice. Driver's seat. No complaints at all, everything is at hand, where it should be. The armrest, although not adjustable in reach, is comfortable and in its place. One drawback is that you can’t comfortably position your left hand so that you can also steer. The window ledge is too high, and the armrest is a little far away due to the width of the cabin. Heated seats 3-level. In winter, after warming up, I leave the level at minimum and drive like that. I didn't really appreciate the seat ventilation.
Advantages : design. Excellent equipment. Controllability. Brakes.
Flaws : hard suspension.

Six months have passed since the purchase of the KIA Optima, and we can draw the first conclusions. I rolled it in carefully. After 10,000 km, the car actually began to have very decent dynamics. It starts from a standstill, of course, not like a hurricane (unpleasantly surprised), but from a speed of 30 km/h it is very brisk, from 50 km/h - with slipping. There are simply no problems with overtaking on the track; the dynamics are very decent at any speed. All-wheel drive is definitely missing. 6-speed automatic transmission, works great. Consumption on the highway while cruising at a speed of 105 km/h is 6 liters. In the city there are 11-12 liters, but with very active driving you can increase it to 16. A slight, rapid “triple” of the engine appeared when warming up, I’ll pay attention to that. Gasoline is only 95 from a proven gas station. Doesn't eat butter. The suspension is comfortable and really adapts to the road surface. It rides on the dirt road like it does on asphalt. A couple of times along the highway, when getting into deep and sharp holes, the suspension triggered a breakdown, which was not very pleasant, but the holes were really big. The slightly less sharp steering is annoying, and it practically does not change depending on even when the sport mode is turned on, which cannot be said about the sensations of the car's dynamics, which are radically different from the eco mode. The car does not feel the ruts. The lateral support of the seats is designed, perhaps, only for a very voluminous driver and passenger. There is a lot of space in the KIA Optima. The trunk is huge. In the rear, three passengers can be accommodated very comfortably. The noise level is good, but the sound insulation of the wheel arches fails. The music is great. The climate works great. The high beam is excellent, but the low beam, even after additional adjustment (raised a little higher), is only good for four. The exchange rate stability system is activated during a test drift, it seemed a little late, but winter has just begun and it’s too early to draw conclusions.
Advantages : excellent car, satisfied with almost everything.
Flaws : sound insulation of arches.

About the first disadvantages. I sat down with my wife and daughter and went home. As soon as we drove away from the dealer, my wife, sitting in the back seat, started rocking the baby and here comes the first joint. The back seat clicks like a hammer on a nail. In the evening I found out where the sound was coming from, the rear sofa is lying on a metal partition between the luggage compartment and the passenger compartment, the partition is sheathed in plastic, the plastic is tightly tightened with fastening bolts, and it clicks against this metal partition. I went to the dealer, they fixed it in an hour, they put felt between the plastic and the metal. Now the KIA Optima is being tested, I drive it like a pensioner. Among the minuses, I can also highlight the noise insulation of the wheel arches, you can hear how each suspension arm works, sometimes you even get the impression that there are problems in the suspension; on the highway the noise from under the wheels is very loud. The sound insulation in the cabin is normal. I don’t really like the algorithm of the machine, it’s a bit dull, but on the Mazda it worked faster. Plus, the box either pushes or kicks slightly, or the car bites with a jerk when you throw off the gas. For now I’m chalking it all up to running-in, because I’ve only driven 1,500 km yet. I really liked the car's steering, it rides like it's on rails, it stands on the road like an iron. The engine is enough, of course, not like a bullet, but around the city it’s enough, the only thing on the highway, of course, I would like to have more reserve under the pedal, what saves me is that I have a head on my shoulders and so far there have been no problems with overtaking. Incredibly pleased with the interior and trunk. You can put an elephant in the trunk of the KIA Optima, and the opening allows for a large volume. A baby stroller whizzes in, along with several bags with things and other small items. The interior decoration is a 5. I like everything, every button, every light bulb. There was no discomfort when I sat down for the first time, as if I had been driving for a long time. Everything is intuitive and simple. The only downside I can highlight in the interior is that on the center console near the selector the material has a glossy finish; dust and fingerprints are very visible on it; you constantly wipe it with a cloth.
