Opel Astra of the new generation presented in the back of K. Opel Astra H: technical characteristics of the family Technical characteristics of cars Opel Astra g

14.08.2021

Astra is slated to launch publicly in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. But few people suspect how difficult it will be for the favorite of the Germans to break into the TOP. He is constantly “pursued by another” active participant in the automotive life, a representative of the glorious family of “people's cars”, the VW Golf. Ear of the C-segment, constantly one step ahead of Opel. However, Opel has never given up during its long and sometimes difficult history, moving forward, developing technologies and expanding production. As an example, we chose one of the oldest Opel lines, the Kadett, which was later transferred to the Opel Astra.

Before we begin our virtual journey around the world, let's ask a question. Did you know that Opel was the first to create an affordable, mass-produced vehicle than Volkswagen? Did not know? Now you know!

Ferdinand launched his first Type 1 Beetle in 1938, two years after the Opel Astra went into mass production. From the Opel Kadett 1 to the Astra K, 79 years full of glorious moments. Fun fact: Kadett and Astra are German bestsellers.

According to the German manufacturer, over 24 million units were built during this period. Lined up one after the other, the Opel compact car chain will exceed 100,000 kilometers in length and can circumnavigate the equator two and a half times! , which acquired the Opel brand in 1929. GM executives were extremely impressed with Opel's modern manufacturing base.

From the slogan “Das-auto”, up to 240 “horses” and all this is Opel! The first people's car.

Opel Kadett 1 (1936 - 1940)

When it went into production in 1936, the inaugural Opel Kadett was not accepted as the headliner of the automotive world at the time. In terms of mechanics, technology, price, the Kadett was an ordinary, simple machine. Nevertheless, it was collected in Russelsheim for four years. Production has exceeded an important threshold of 100,000 units. The four-seater had a trick up its sleeve; the Kadett 1 had a unitary body structure.

This technical solution was the predecessor to the creation of a modular vehicle platform. This allowed the creation of the Kadett 1 in both sedan and convertible form. With prices starting at DM 2.100. The maximum speed was about 100 km / h. At the front of the 1936 model there was an independent suspension of the Dubonnet type and a sprung rear axle from Opel Olympia. Low valve cast iron engine with a volume of 1 liter with four cylinders and 23 hp. was borrowed from the Opel P4.

Opel Kadett A (1962 - 1965)

After a decent break, in the 60s, the new Opel entered the scene under the letter "A". Its strengths are good boot capacity and the ability to comfortably accommodate four adults. The vector was taken for maximum reliability and low operating costs. 1 liter 40 horsepower engine made it possible. From 62 to 65, about 650 thousand copies of the Kadett A were made in the form of two-door, four-seater cars.

Do you want to know how the Opel Kadett of those times stood out from its competitors? One of the main decisions, which now seems self-evident, was the outlet of the fuel filler neck to one of the sides of the car. Among classmates, it was one of the first cars with such a solution, which made it possible not to "wash" the trunk with gasoline vapors. It was not for nothing that Opel Kadett was called "O.K." in those days.

Opel Kadett B (1965 - 1973)

This generation launched Das Auto as a brand identity. More than 4 meters long. The car has become an order of magnitude wider, larger and more spacious than the Kadett A, which was replaced by a new model under the letter "B". Despite the increase in size and practicality, the car had a flat sloping part. Obviously taken from sports American fastbacks like the first generation Ford Mustang, for example.

The 1.1 liter carburetor was loved by buyers for its high power - 45 hp. and 55 hp. on "S" models. Unlike its venerable predecessor, the Kadett B sold like hotcakes. About 2.6 million vehicles were built and about 50% of the built Opel Kadett were exported abroad. Opel Cadet A appeared in 120 countries around the world.

Opel Kadett C (1973 - 1979)

For this generation of Kadett, this 70s model spawned many body styles: the Kadett City three-door hatchback, the Kadett Caravan, the Kadett, the four-door "Limousine" and the Kadett Coupe. 1.7 million of these rear-wheel drive Cadets of the fourth generation (C) were produced prior to 1979.

What made Cadet special, you ask. To do this, it must be said that the design was something new for Opel, especially the flat grille and front bumper with integrated spoiler.

This generation of the Opel Kadett is worthy to be remembered, at least for the GT / E model that debuted in 75. The 1.9 liter fuel injection engine was good enough for 105 hp. and developed a top speed of 184 km / h.

Opel Kadett D (1979 - 1984)

In 1974, Kadett retrained as a front-wheel drive vehicle. The first front-wheel drive model in the history of Opel appeared on the horizon for a reason at the turn of the 70s and 80s. This technical solution allowed to reduce the production cost and significantly improve the layout of the vehicle.

The car may have been 126mm shorter than the Kadett C, but the D had a much larger cabin, a torsion bar axle and a 1.3-liter OHC petrol engine with 60 or 75 hp. In addition to a station wagon with a decent luggage compartment capacity of 1.425 liters, the Kadett D was also assembled in the form of a fastback. More than 2.1 million cars were created between 1979 and 1984. In 1983, one of the most interesting Opel Kadett GTEs appeared. With a 1.8 liter engine, it had an impressive 115 hp. and a top speed of 187 km / h. Oh, I almost forgot! In the Cadet, already in the early 80s, there were ventilated disc front brakes.

Opel Kadett E (1984 - 1991)

It was produced from 84 to 91 years and was sold with a circulation of 3,779,289 units during its existence.

"Car of the Year 1984" was the breakthrough of that era. Opel's best-selling model at the time boasted an aerodynamically tuned body that provided a drag coefficient of 0.32, which was not bad for the 80s.

After long hours spent by Opel in the wind tunnel, the Opel Kadett GSi was unveiled to the world with a 0.30 score. At the time, it became the world's most aerodynamic hatchback. With a 1.8 liter 16 valve, 156 hp twin-chamber engine. (115 kW) Opel Kadett GSi / GTe has become a real treat for fans.

Opel Astra F (1991 - 1997)

New chapter. The second coming of Opel compact cars. Whatever you think and say about it, but history cannot be changed, Astra put an end to the Opel Kadett pedigree. Let's not forget to pay tribute to the role of the model, as it was the Astra F that sold an incredible 4.13 units from 1991 to 1997. To this day, the Astra F is the best-selling Opel model in the company's history.

The name change should have had an impact on better Opel sales worldwide.

The most important innovations in the Astra F were active safety systems, including the front seat belts were equipped with pretensioners, a large number of seat belt and seat adjustments, double steel pipes appeared in the doors to strengthen the doors and provide additional protection for passengers. The Astra F was also much safer for the environment, as all the engines that were installed on the car had catalysts.

Opel Astra G (1998 - 2004)

A more "compartment" design has appeared. The Astra G began life as a three- and five-door C-segment hatchback and was also. A little later, a notchback sedan, coupe and convertible appeared. Aside from the aesthetic revolution, the Astra G was twice as stiff as the first generation Astra F.

The fully galvanized body is another factor that made the second generation Astra a revolutionary vehicle. With a wheelbase 100mm longer than the Astra F, the Opel Astra delivered excellent rear legroom and 370 liters of luggage space with the rear seats up.

Opel Astra H (2004 - 2009)

The power range has expanded from 90 to 240 hp. with a selection of 12 engines, the H offered 7 body styles. Approximately 2.7 million vehicles were sold during its life cycle. But what made the Opel (Vauxhall) Astra H stand out? First of all, it is an adaptive chassis, IDSPlus Continuous Damping Control (continuous damping control). Such a system was beyond fantasy for this segment at the beginning of the 2000s.

Last but not least, the Astra H gave 34 safety points. High marks were given to the safety of adult passengers in the compact car segment.

Opel Astra J (2009 - 2015)

We are slowly coming to the end. And before us appears the penultimate model 2009-2015 Opel Astra J. The design has acquired "licked" surfaces and wide rear arches. In general, it turned out to be a good, distinctive, beautiful hatchback.

The Astra J now has an Opel Eye traffic sign recognition system, AFL + head lighting, AFP + automatic high beam activation depending on road conditions. Adaptive FlexRide dampers, Watt's front suspension and state-of-the-art rear axle system gave this generation a solid chance of success among its competitors.

From a driver and medical point of view, the front seats have received very positive reviews for their ergonomics and have received numerous positive reviews from medical experts.

Opel Astra K (from 2015)

Considering the technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H, it is necessary to take into account the variations: more than 5 different engine sizes, a sedan, a station wagon, two hatchbacks and a convertible, 3 complete sets.

Opel Astra H - specifications for the whole family

The technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H cannot be described in one paragraph. Because the Astra H is not just one car, it is a whole family. A range of at least 5 vehicles. At first glance, they are identical, but different in nature, in their driving performance, appearance and size.

Astra H was launched in 2004. In 2007, it underwent a slight restyling. The technical characteristics of the engines have undergone changes. They have become more powerful, economical and environmentally friendly. The front bumper, mirrors, and some interior trim elements have also changed. Astra H is still produced in the station wagon, sedan or 5-door hatchback, but under the name Astra Family.

The fifth generation Opel Astra with the letter K debuted in 2015, when the brand was still owned by General Motors. Then, in 2017, it was bought by the PSA concern. Despite the fact that the French are promptly trying to implement their technologies, the life cycles of Astra and Insignia have not yet ended and it is economically unprofitable to transfer them to new platforms with all the attendant consequences. Moreover, the restyling of the model was started by GM specialists even before the change of leadership. As a result, the updated model was released in July 2019, and the new generation on the French EMP2 platform should not be expected until 2021. You can distinguish the new product from its predecessor by the front part. Instead of a double chrome trim, the radiator grille received two single ones. The central air intake has become slightly larger and received a pronounced trapezoidal shape. On the sides of it are other recesses with fog lights. Among other things, to reduce drag, the front section is equipped with grille shutters, with the upper and lower sections being separately controlled. In addition, the manufacturer has installed a variety of anti-turbulence guards under the underbody and re-shaped the rear suspension arms. As a result, the car received the best drag indicator among its direct competitors. The hatchback has a Cd of 0.26 and the estate's 0.25. The cabin has also undergone several changes. A new dashboard is located in front of the driver's eyes. It is distinguished by a virtual section in the center, which is responsible for the speedometer readings. On the center console, you can see the eight-inch touchscreen of the new infotainment system.

Dimensions (edit)

Opel Astra is a five-seater Golf class model. There are two body options available: a five-door hatchback and a station wagon. In the first case, the car is 4370 mm long, 1871 mm wide, 1485 mm high and 2662 mm between the wheelsets. The station wagon is 332 mm longer and 25 mm higher. The car is based on the General Motors D2XX platform. She has a semi-independent chassis layout. McPherson struts in front, and a resilient torsion beam in the back. The French have re-tuned the shock absorbers to improve comfort. At an additional cost, an optional sports package with reduced ground clearance and tighter struts will be available.

Specifications

Opel Astra engines also inherited from the previous owner of the company. The petrol line consists of two motors. The base unit is a 1.2-liter inline turbocharged triple, available in three versions: 110, 130 and 145 horsepower. The gearbox is exclusively mechanical six-speed. Alternatively, you can opt for a 1.3-liter engine with a similar layout. It is capable of delivering up to 145 horses and is equipped with a continuously variable variator. For heavy fuel lovers, a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit is available. There are 105 and 122 horsepower versions to choose from. The younger versions come only with a mechanical transmission, while the older ones can be equipped with a classic hydromechanical automatic with 9 steps.

The main advantage of the Astra G over the old cars of the brand is the rust-free body. The body of the Astra is galvanized, while the manufacturer gave it a 12-year warranty, and the Opel paint coating warranty is 3 years. The range of Astra bodies includes: Three and five-door hatchback, sedan and station wagon, as well as coupe and convertible.

The production of Asters in coupe and convertible bodies was carried out by the Italian company Bertone. The drag coefficient of the Astra in the sedan body is 0.29, and even in the convertible with the roof down, the drag coefficient is 0.32. The bodies of the second generation Astr were created from 20 different types of steel.

Specifications Opel Astra G

Technical part and characteristics of Opel Astra G

When buying an Opel Astra G, experts recommend abandoning modifications with a 1.6-liter engine. The problem is that this motor is the most common and most of the cars we sell are equipped with this engine. Power of the sixteen-valve 1.6 - 101hp According to experts, a 1.6 16v gasoline engine will most likely require a major overhaul by a mileage of 180,000 km. The eight-valve 1.6 engine also does not have a high resource, its power is 75 horsepower. The least powerful 1.2-liter petrol engine produces 65 horsepower, which is enough to reach a top speed of 165 kilometers per hour. It is worth saying that it is the gasoline 1.2 of all the engines intended for the Astra that has a timing chain drive. The petrol 1.4 is not a bad option; with a small volume, this unit produces 90 horsepower. The most powerful engines among the "non-sports" Asters are gasoline units with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters. Initially, 1.8 produced 116 hp, and 2.0 - 136, but in 2000 the 1.8 engine began to transmit 125 hp to the wheels, and the two-liter unit gave way to a 2.2-liter engine with 147 horsepower. Gasoline units with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters suffer from cracks in the exhaust manifold. In the same year, the power of the eight-valve 1.6 increased to 85 horsepower.

Turbo diesel engines with a volume of 1.7 liters produce 68 and 75 horsepower, a two-liter diesel engine - 82 horsepower. In 2000, a 2.2l turbodiesel with a capacity of 125hp appeared, this engine is equipped with a Common Rail fuel injection system.

In 1999, a modification of the OPC appeared, the Astra with a naturally aspirated 2.0 engine produced 160 horsepower. In 2000, the same unit was equipped with a turbocharger, which made it possible to increase the power to 200 horsepower. The maximum speed of the Opel Astra OPC is 240 kilometers per hour.

A typical problem for all second-generation gasoline Asters is the failure of the exhaust gas recirculation valve. Problems with the exhaust gas recirculation valve are revealed in the difficult starting of the engine, some loss of power, and it is not uncommon for this malfunction to light up a light indicating engine breakdown. Replacing candles in the second Astra is done every 40,000 km, the manufacturer himself indicates a figure of 60,000 km, but in fact the candles simply do not live up to this run. Replacing the timing belt should be done every 40,000 - 50,000 km, it happens that by a run of 60,000 km the belt is already torn. Unstable idling is usually "treated" by cleaning, less often by replacing the idle valve. Also, Astra owners may be upset by the failure of the camshaft sensor, or the breakdown of the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Before you buy a 1998-2004 Opel Astra G, you should take a closer look at the cars that were sold new from us. The fact is that these Asters are already equipped with stiffer springs and shock absorbers, even the battery power of the car intended for the CIS countries is higher.

Astra is equipped with injection systems from Multec and Siemens Simtec.

It is interesting that already in those years, the Astra was equipped with an electric power steering. It is also very interesting that the stabilizer struts are made of carbon fiber. The oil change in the five-speed mechanics of the Astra is made every 120,000 km. Astra's gearbox requires original oil - Opel - 19 40 768. In addition to mechanics, a four-speed automatic was offered for Astra.

On Aster modifications with engines up to 1.8 liters, drum brakes are installed at the rear, on gasoline modifications with a 1.8 liter engine and disc brakes are installed in the front and rear. Brake discs on Astra serve about 60,000 km, ball joints and steering tips last the same period. The front stabilizer bars on the Astra serve 30,000 - 45,000 km.

SALON

In the cabin Opel Astra spacious enough, both in the driver's seat and in the back row. In general, the salon certainly does not please with a wide variety of design delights, but at the same time it is very convenient and functional: everything is at hand, in its place. You can get comfortable behind the wheel, the seats have good lateral support, a wide range of adjustments, the steering wheel is also adjustable in height and reach. The build quality is at a high level, the materials are also pleasant to the touch.

The center console is filled with a huge number of buttons, which are difficult to figure out the first time. But here, each button is responsible for its function, there is no need to rummage through the numerous menus, which is what many modern cars sin.

The instrument cluster includes 4 deep wells: the large ones display the speedometer and tachometer readings, the small ones show the engine temperature and fuel supply. In the center is a large LCD display.

The trunk volume of the sedan is 460 liters, you can open it using a button in the cabin.

In general, we can say that Opel Astra in the sedan body is perfect for the role of a family car. There are no futuristic solutions in the cabin, as, for example, in the Ford Focus, but many do not need it. But the build quality and finishing materials are at a high level. In terms of design, the car has become more elegant and stylish than the more conservative Opel Astra H.

Many people say that the price of Opel Astra strongly overpriced in comparison with competitors. Yes, the basic version costs a considerable 679 thousand rubles. But for this money, the car will already be well equipped in the base: a folding rear seat, heated seats, steering wheel adjustment for height and reach, front and side airbags, an audio system, air conditioning, ABS and ESP systems, standard alarm, engine protection, heated mirrors and electric drive, DRL.

Price

Today the price of the Opel Astra G from 1998 to 2004 is $ 6,000 - $ 10,000. The price for spare parts and Opel Astra repair is one of the advantages of this car.

Who can you recommend such a car to? Of course, first of all, for a person who often moves around the city, because if a person often travels on the highway, then for the same price you can look after the Opel Omega B, which is not too gluttonous in highway mode, but at the same time it is more comfortable and stable on the highway, and straightforward the movement resembles a bus or a Scania truck.

The Opel Astra range is a compact C-class family car. Produced from 1991 to the present by the German car manufacturer Opel. The name Astra originates from Vauxhall (UK), which sold (1979-1991) under the name Vauxhall Astra. In 1991, General Motors standardized the names of passenger cars, which began to end with the English letter "a", and Cadet became known as Astra in all divisions of Opel. Also, the numbering of generations is inherited from the Cadet, which were numbered in Latin letters alphabetically A, B, C, D and E, and Astra begins with the letter F and then G, H, J and K.

Currently, Astra's classmates are other brands of cars: Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Kia Rio, Honda Civic, Hyundai Solaris, Fiat Punto, Lada Vesta, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Almera, Peugeot 308, Renault Sandero, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Auris and Volkswagen Polo.

Opel Astra F (1991-1998)

The world saw the first Astra at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1991. The car was produced both in Germany and in many other countries such as Belgium, Hungary, India, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom. Produced on the T-body platform from General Motors Corporation. In total, about 2.4 million copies were produced.

Body shapes were the most varied for any picky taste - 3 and 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan, 5-door station wagon "Caravan", and two years later there appeared a convertible and a 3-door van. The body colors were available in the following variants:

The range of engines is also very extensive. Gasoline engines 23 variants, all 4-cylinder with direct fuel injection, volume from 1.4 to 2.0 liters, power from 60 to 204 hp. Diesel engines 4 options, also all 4-cylinder with a volume of 1.7 liters with a capacity of 57 to 82 hp, all injection with one camshaft. There are three types of gearboxes - 5 or 6-speed mechanics and a 4-speed automatic.

In 1992, the Astra received the Irish Car of the Year award, which dates back to 1978, and in 1994 and 1995, the South African Car of the Year. In 1994, the model was seriously face-lifted. The headlights, exterior mirrors, bumpers, door handles, taillights and information display have been changed. We also made changes to the car's suspension. All models were equipped with two airbags.

Opel Astra G (1998-2004)

At the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show, the second generation Astra car was presented, and in 1998 sales began in Europe and the world. It was a completely new car that did not take over from the previous generation. In addition to Germany, production was in the following countries: Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Italy, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine and Great Britain. For all the time, about 1.9 million copies were produced.

There are even more options for cases. In addition to those already mentioned in the previous generation, a 2-door coupe appeared. They began to install four airbags as standard, improved driving performance, ergonomics and quality of interior finishing materials. On the same chassis, tuned by Lotus, they began to produce a compact minivan.

The range of engines is also very large. Gasoline engines in the amount of 16 models from 1.2 to 2.2 liters capacity from 65 to 200 hp, all 4-cylinder with fuel injection, as well as 6 diesel engines from 1.7 to 2.2 liters from 68 to 125 hp, all 4-cylinder turbocharged. There are three transmissions to choose from - 5-speed mechanics or 4 and 5-speed automatic.

Opel Astra H (2004-2009)

In 2003, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it was presented, and in March 2004, a five-door hatchback of the next generation Opel Astra with the letter "H" index was released. The car was produced on an updated T-body platform, as a result of which the dimensions were slightly increased. The aging one was replaced in Brazil by a sedan version of the Astra H called the Chevrolet Vectra before being replaced by the Chevrolet Cruze in 2009.

Generation H has produced about 1.2 million vehicles. In addition to Germany, the car was produced in Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Poland, Russia, Taiwan and Great Britain.

The body styles were as follows - 3-door hatchback coupe, 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan, 5-door station wagon, 3-door van and 2-door convertible.

The range of engines includes: 10 petrol with a volume of 1.4 to 2.0 liters, with a capacity of 90 to 240 hp, all 4-cylinder with direct injection; 8 diesels with a volume of 1.3 to 1.9 liters, with a capacity of 90 to 150 hp, all 4-cylinder turbocharged. The choice of transmissions has significantly expanded: 5 and 6-speed mechanics, 5-speed robotic, 4-speed automatic and 6-speed automatic Aisin 60-40LE.

Opel Astra J (2009-2015)

At the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show, a new generation of Astra was presented with the letter "J" index. You probably noticed that the letter "I" is missing in the generation numbering. This is not to be confused with the Roman numeral I or the first. The car is based on GM's new Delta II platform and has taken much of its styling from the new one. Sales began in December 2009. Production was carried out in China, Germany, Poland, Russia and Great Britain.

The variety of bodies inherent in previous generations has been somewhat reduced. Remaining the 3-door hatchback coupe, 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon, dubbed the "Sports Tourer", debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The adoption of the name "Sports Tourer" finally put an end to the name "Caravan" for Opel station wagons. The European Committee Euro NCAP has awarded a 5-star rating to the vehicle's safety.

The number of gasoline engines in the lineup remains the same as in the previous generation, 10 variants, volume from 1.4 to 2.0 liters, power from 87 to 280 hp, all 4-cylinder with fuel injection. Diesel engines 9 variants of volume from 1.3 to 2.0 liters, power from 95 to 195 HP, all 4-cylinder turbocharged. There are three transmission options - 5 and 6-speed mechanics or a 6-speed automatic with an active selection mode of the "Tiptronic" type.

Infotainment and navigation systems are supplied by Bosch. Astra took third place in the European Car of the Year nomination in 2010.

Opel Astra K (2015 - present)

In September 2015, the next modification of the Opel Astra with the letter designation "K" was announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car is based on the new D2XX / D2UX platform. The all-new architecture has made it 5 centimeters shorter and 120 kilograms lighter than the previous generation "J", but Opel claims there is more usable space inside. Front suspension type McPherson, rear torsion bar. Euro NCAP has awarded a 5-star rating to the vehicle's safety.

Standard comes with a color LED display in the dashboard that connects to Android or iPhone. This system is already available as in
