Their work is hard, after a year fatigue takes its toll - a replacement is needed. Fresh recruits tend to perform better. And the advertising of new products does not hesitate to castigate those structural elements that were presented as advanced just yesterday: they say, how did they go with this in general?

So what kind of "janitor team" to give preference? Newfangled hybrid or familiar frameless? Bosch or Denso? More expensive or cheaper? As a result, we decided to hold a competition of professional skills. The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant volunteered to help us: it has a couple of stands for life tests of brushes - you can drive at least a year. But we limited the test period to four months, which is about the same as a year's run on a live car.

Each pair of wipers was bought in triplicate - as in Gaidai's comedy. The first - to the stand, the second - to the heat chamber, the third - to the car for comparison: it was-became.

WHAT DID YOU TEST

In the old days, the owner of the inn was called a janitor, he had much more duties than waving a broom. There are also many requirements for modern wipers, so we decided to check the following parameters:

• ergonomics (packaging, marking, design, appearance, fastening on a leash);
• wear resistance on the stand (similar to a year's run on a real car);
• resistance to UV radiation (100 hours);
• heat resistance (at +65 and -45 °С);
• glass cleaning quality on a real car after laboratory tests.

HOW THE RESULTS WERE ASSESSED

Technical indicators were evaluated by a group of experts on a 5-point scale, these estimates are included in the test report. Estimates for the price / quality ratio were also put on a 5-point scale: according to the principle “more is better”. The calculation method is simple: by dividing the cost of each product by the number of points scored, the best ratio was assigned a score of 5 points, and the worst - 1 point. The rest received proportional intermediate marks. Thus, an "excellent student" could ideally get 5 points both for technical results and for an optimal pricing policy. The same applies to the outsider, who in both cases was threatened with a unit.

Change your brushes at least once a year!

The competition turned out to be democratic: long and short, America and Eurasia are presented. Prices - from 300 to 910 rubles apiece. I was pleased that we did not notice the overwhelming superiority of one design over another. From the point of view of an engineer, everything is logical: advertising is advertising, but you don’t need to lose your head either. Frankly, only the overseas "Triko" did not succeed: tearing off the tape is almost like hitting glass with a shovel. But the malfunction is not directly related to the type of construction: a specific technology clearly failed.

It is curious that "Anko", "Champion" and "Triko", even being brand new, did not receive the maximum rating. Bench tests lowered the cleaning quality of all products, albeit to varying degrees. This confirms the need for an annual "changing of the guard" on the windshield. The contestants are listed in alphabetical order. The German Heiner Hybrid has the best value for money, Denso, Valeo and Vin scored the highest scores. Our choice eventually fell on the Korean "Denso": low price, text in Russian, excellent scores and ... And, whatever one may say, the most modern design. You can't get away from fashion.

FROM FRAME TO HYBRID

The design of brushes has not undergone global changes over the past century. For the first acquaintance, we will subject the brushes we have taken to a fairly simple but revealing test. As part of this, each of the “wipers” will have to remove the fatty kefir poured onto the glass in one pass “back and forth”, and then work for half a minute on clean glass rinsed with a “washer”.

This experience should demonstrate to us the quality of the brush, which was originally laid down in the production, just taken out of the package and does not yet have a “mileage”. Here we will check the brushes for the presence of “crushing”, which will be clear from the vertical fan mark after passing through dirty glass, as well as the sharpness of the working edge of the tape and the uniformity of the pressing force, which will be indicated by horizontal strokes along the radius of the passage.
